I sat down and was immediately greeted with complimentary edamame. I ordered a virgin mojito (they made it so well) and 2 special rolls - moonraker and angel. Both were delicious and fresh. The rolls are large and come with plenty of ginger and wasabi. They have a ton of GF options as well as tamari for the GF crowd too.
With an excellent selection from their menu from which to order from for Happy Hour, Momiji is a seriously great value for fresh and delicious sushi and sashimi. Tucked away in Capitol Hill, the space is both intimate and airy, with a dark and moody bar and high tops in the front - facing the street - giving way to two small interior dining rooms facing a glassed-in courtyard garden. Very charming! Seated in a spacious booth, we were warmly greeted and given a plate of warm, salted edamame. I love restaurants that still honor the small acts of hospitality that seem to have gone by the wayside. Especially during Happy Hour; this gesture goes a long way. I've been to Happy Hour at other restaurants and, besides a few drink specials, a limited menu saves you a dollar or two. Not here. Savings were about 25-30% less. The fried calamari was outstanding- delicate and lightly fried, sitting on top of a bed of lightly dressed greens with a side of spicy aioli. The sushi and sashimi were all fresh and abundant, the bowl of miso soup generous, and the service was exceptionally friendly and efficient. Do not pass on Momiji, no matter the time of day, but especially at Happy Hour!
Came here one night as my friend and I were visiting Seattle for the first time and were craving sushi. No reservations, so we were offered a high top table in the front/bar, versus waiting for a table in the back. Server came over with some complimentary edamame & got our drinks. Our drinks tasted amazing! We soon put our sushi orders in and this is where we lost it. We both ordered a roll each as well as an appetizer. Appetizer came and tasted great. Eventually my roll came to the table but not my friends. No biggie, figured it was just taking a lil longer. After 10 min of no server and no roll, we flagged him down and asked when the other roll would be coming. Turns out, someone had taken the other roll and crossed it out on the ticket. After another 10 min or so, the roll finally came but we were already planning on leaving. Took the leftovers home. Bill came and nothing was offered to make up for the long wait. I would rather spend my money elsewhere for sushi.
Momiji isn't a sushi restaurant, it's a sushi palace. A sushi shrine with more square footage than your high school cafeteria. The table tops just keep going and going as you're eventually ushered down to where the fresh fish voyage begins. Before we could even order drinks, a beautiful surprise was brought to the table. Free edamame? This is outrageous hospitality. How did they know that I wanted this? I was prepared to pay $15 for it. I'm sure they do it for everyone, but it made me feel truly special. They have some very fun cocktails here, I ordered a Japanese-inspired old fashioned which was fantastic. We also had a clam dish as an appetizer which was unlike anything I've ever tasted at a Japanese restaurant. It was akin to an Italian style clam plate that is normally soaking in butter and garlic - but instead these little fellas were basking in miso soup with a deeply rich flavor. The sushi here is easily some of the best in Seattle. Each roll will be about $20, but they're ridiculously long bois. I was very full after splitting 3 of them. The taste of the sushi itself is off the charts. Every bite was incredibly fresh and balanced. All of the rolls that we ordered were also sitting in their own unique sauce, which accentuated the flavors of the fish even further. There are sushi restaurants that try to do wayyyy too much for each roll, and then there are sushi places that only focus on the fish itself. Momiji does a great job of finding their lane in between the two, and letting their creativity shine.

THIS PLACE ROCKS and i will not be taking constructive criticism on that!! we brought friends in from out of town and honestly?? momiji was one of the highlights of their whole trip and i am NOT surprised. this place is magical from the vibe, the decor, the energy, all of it just feels so special and intentional. let's talk about the food because wow. the fish quality is absolutely incredible for the price point, which is SO reasonable (like genuinely impressive for seattle sushi). the portions are huge (in the best way), and the panda roll specifically?? i will be dreaming about it until i come back. and i WILL be coming back. also a huge shoutout because they were so attentive and accommodating to my dietary restrictions without making it a whole thing, which as someone with restrictions honestly means the world. the service was spectacular start to finish, just so warm, attentive, lovely people. if you haven't been here yet what are you even doing. this is a forever favorite. we can't wait to come back
We brought the whole family (two adults + toddler + infant) for my birthday at 4:30pm on a Monday, and had an absolute blast. The interior is really cute, and there's a huge back dining room with a glassed-in courtyard! I really thought the entire restaurant was that front bar space, haha. We were late for our reservation (see aforementioned toddler + infant), but they were incredibly accommodating. We were able to sit in a booth with a booster, and the carseat/infant fit into the booth, which is what the host suggested. She swept the stroller away, and it just felt like such a nice touch to make sure we could enjoy our dinner with our kids without feeling like we were getting in the way. Now, the food. Delicious delicious delicious. We ordered some from HH menu, and some from dinner menu. I think the nigiri on the HH may be smaller than regular nigiri? But we still very much enjoyed the HH sushi. Complimentary edamame was nice. The chicken karaage felt a little dry, but the lemon wedge really changed and upgraded the whole experience. Our waitress was never too far, but also didn't over do it with checking in. Overall it was a really lovely dinner experience, and def recommend it!
Went for an impulsive date night and couldn't have been better! Food & drink: (5/5) Got started off with calamari and complimentary edamame. Absolutely loved the calamari. Seasoned, crispy, not too chewy, and had a salad with an addicting dressing underneath. As for sushi we got the salmon maki, yellowtail maki, madison roll, and angel roll. We tend to prefer simpler sushi so we also LOVED the maki rolls, especially because of how well they cook and season their rice. As for the specialty rolls, I chose the angel roll because of the fresh scallop while my partner chose the madison roll. Both were good but just didn't compare to the maki. I probably wouldn't get the madison roll again because I found the additions of lime and shishito peppers to be overpowering. Service: (5/5) We came maybe an hour before last call and they were still super accommodating. Not to mention that the space is absolutely beautiful and perfect for a date night.
We stopped by after the boat show, we were starving. Parking was difficult to find, we didn't mind to have to walk ten minutes. There was a group of four of us and there was no wait at all. We were seated in the middle section of the back of restaurant. There were a lot of people there but it wasn't overly loud. We started off with oyster shooters, they were so good we ordered another round. We loved the pico de gallo in it , it also had a nice little spice to it as well. We also ordered the jalapeno hamachi as well to start. The yellow tale was tender and paired with the yuzu citrus sauce , it complimented the fish well. We ordered a plethora of rolls. The capital hill, bird of paradise, pretty in pink, four kings, and two of the three devil rolls. We ate almost everything, leaving a few rolls for a snack for when we got home. My favorite was the pretty in pink. But all of the rolls were spectacular. It's been a long time since we've been to a sushi restaurant where all of the rolls were amazing. I loved how many pieces each roll came with and all the sauces were deliciously paired with each different roll. We can't wait to come back and try more rolls.
I was here for a late birthday dinner for my brother-in-law. I was not expecting large portions when I ordered the Nabeyaki Udon noodles, but I was not complaining. The restaurant looked to be a nice size from my viewpoint towards the front. They have a late night menu as well, and a popular dish was the garlic short ribs...highly recommend!
Steve and I got out of a movie in Seattle a few weeks ago and it was on the threshold (seems like we are always there) where it was late enough that quite a few restaurants were closing which left a few still open with later hours. Momiji was one of those and it was extremely close to the movie theater we were walking out of. Sushi sounded great so we strolled over to get some. The sushi didn't disappoint... not in the slightest! We got some specialty rolls off of that portion of the menu and they were so very good! Fresh and extremely flavorful! Moonraker was one of the rolls we got. I highly recommend it! In addition to that we got an order of the Spicy Tofu... again delicious and made an excellent side with our sushi! I got a hard alcohol I wasn't used to getting. It was fun and it was quite good! It was Shochu which is a distilled beverage and involves sweet potato. If memory serves I got the one with sweet potato and pear. Very different but very good. It had a nice dryness to it. To wrap it all up we got some deep fried mochi ice cream. It held up nicely to being a great finish to a very high quality meal. We are definitely coming back!
We celebrated our anniversary dinner here . Overall nice ambience and lively atmosphere. Service was friendly and warm. They have many vegan food options which is great. I've had vegan sushi in several spots and I think the veggie roll/ sushi could use a bit more flavor and texture. Parking can be bit hard to find but we could find paid parking at a short walking distance. I would definitely recommend trying once.
Quite impressed with Momiji in Capital Hill! We were scheduled to have dinner in a nearby Italian resturant and needed to kill about 30-45 minutes. We just happened to walk by Momiji and walked into a warm and inviting space that had great atmosphere. A few spots left at the bar at 4:30pm and we sat down for a cocktail knowing we'd be leaving immediately afterward. Still, the bartender and staff were great and we really enjoyed the cocktails. I sat my AMEX on the counter and without much fuss our minds were read and had a great check out experience too. By this time, about 5pm the place was now packed during a weekday. Lesson learned get there 4-4:30pm as they don't have a lot of space. Definitely will be coming back.

Service was great and super helpful with recommendations. Beautiful restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating options. Sushi Set A $15 10/10 Reliable choice for delicious sushi. Grilled Garlic Short Ribs $13 8/10 Tender and flavorful, but small portion. Lychee Martini $12 8/10 Strong vodka flavor, but it's balanced with the sweet lychee taste. Crispy Calamari $10 7/10 Only a few pieces on a bed of salad with a delicious green sauce. Salmon Skin Roll $9 7/10 Good, but cannot compare to other dishes. Sashimi Don $14 8/10 A lot of rice, but fish was fresh. read more
Had a very disappointing experience. The service was good, we came and were seated pretty quickly with no reservations. The waitress was nice and understanding. The food is where it all went south. We ordered ginger beer and the ginger beer wasn't true ginger beer (it was a soft drink with ginger flavor and almost 50 grams of sugar + all sorts of gums). Calamari 1/5 - this was one of the worse, soggy Luke warm calamari that tasted reheated. It sort of tasted like it was in a Tupperware for a while or cooked in rancid oil. Unagi Roll 1/5 - this is actually the worse roll I've ever had. The rice was like warm, the whole roll was mushy and tasted like spoiled fish oil. I've never had to spit out a sushi roll before and this was a first for me. The roll was cut Into super uneven pieces, some were unusually large and some super thin. It was so bad that unfortunately we had to send it back. Nigiri 3/5 - We got a selection of nigiri and it was better than the roll but still you can tell the fish quality just wasn't there. The salmon belly, toro, and others are supposed to taste buttery, but instead they were super stringy. I think the fish was fresh, but the quality was meh. We will not be returning here unfortunately and it's wild to see the amount of positive reviews. read more

Momiji is hands down one of the best sushi experiences in Seattle. The quality of the food is consistently outstanding. Every roll is fresh and presented so beautifully. The sushi is always amazing and you can genuinely taste the attention to detail that goes into every order. For me, what really sets Momiji apart is the customer service! The staff makes you feel welcomed, appreciated, and valued from the moment you walk in. They don't just serve you, they treat you like they are genuinely happy you chose to dine with them. In a time where customer appreciation feels like it's at an all-time low at many restaurants, Momiji never misses. They bring back that sense of hospitality that seems to be disappearing in soooo many establishments. I also love that they're open pretty late, which makes it an easy go-to spot whether you're grabbing dinner after work or looking for a chill late-night option. Their hours make them incredibly convenient, but the quality never drops no matter when you go. Between the great sushi, the impeccable service and the great atmosphere, Momiji remains one of Seattle's gems. Every visit feels consistently enjoyable, and that's rare!! Easily a 5-star experience every time. Highly recommended! I love it here!!! read more

Tried some new rolls today and overall they were pretty good. I thought the momiji roll was pretty good but I did notice it fell apart pretty easily and the knockout roll was also very tasty, not sure if they're my favorite rolls I've had there but were both really good read more
I found Momiji on Yelp and made sure to visit during our trip to Seattle. We made a dinner reservation in advance since they're known to be popular and often busy. The interior was beautiful, and every dish we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The servers were amazing. They were friendly, attentive, and professional. The only part that left a less positive impression was our initial greeting. The front host seemed somewhat distracted and avoided eye contact while speaking, which made it hard to understand him. We had to ask for clarification a few times. Other than that, everything else was okay, and I'd still recommend Momiji for anyone looking for great Japanese restaurant in Seattle. read more
Friend recommended this place and it was good! Loved the ambiance and interior. Upon walking in you think it's a small spot, but there's a whole other section in the back for seating! My friends who ordered the bowl and sashimi said the fish tasted very fresh. Me and a few other friends split the special rolls and thought the Capitol hill and pine place were the best! For one of the rolls the tempura didnt taste very fresh, but it may be because we came around 10pm. The service was amazing, our server was so friendly and gave us recommendations. Since this is located in dt, it's a bit difficult to find parking, so you'll have to find street parking. Definitely recommend hitting this spot if you're in the city :) read more

We were super excited to eat here since we've heard great things about Momiji for a while. We were seated pretty quickly with a walk-in which was nice and were put in a table in the back with the really pretty view of the garden thing outside. Only issue with the tables was that in that spot they were so close together with other parties, so it was very hard to hear the other person I was with. We first ordered drinks which definitely took a bit to put in and come around. We only had ordered a cocktail and a canned beer, which took maybe 15 minutes to come out. It then took another while for us to be able to put in our food order. We just ordered the unagi roll, the spicy rainbow, and the chicken karaage. This took a very long time to come out, so long that the server came around to ask if we wanted more food when we hadn't received our food yet. The rolls came out and at first they looked great, but later inspection and tasting just did not go well. Also, upon eating them we realized that they were kind of lukewarm and just not fresh tasting which led us to think they had been sitting out for awhile. - Unagi roll (2/5): the rice was unevenly cooked and there a very small amount of unagi actually in the roll. You couldn't taste it when eating it, just the cucumber and avocado that surrounded it. - Spicy Rainbow Roll (1/5) : The pieces were cut extremely uneven. Some pieces were unappetizingly large, while most were cut so thin it would fall apart once you picked it up. The filling was supposed to be spicy snow crab mix, but the amount of spicy mayo inside completely masked the flavor of the crab and fish on top. - Chicken karaage (2/5) : The chicken came out last and we were excited because maybe it meant it would be nice and fresh and hot. It was not. They were lukewarmish and not as crispy as typical chicken karaage I have had in the past. The pieces were also so large, it felt like I was eating a chicken tender instead. We did get a complimentary dessert since we were celebrating a birthday! We got the mochi ice cream flight which was pretty good, they came out slightly melty but they were still good. All in all we were at the restaurant for a little under 2 hours and in that time we had only ordered 3 items and 2 drinks. We were left kind of just feeling disappointed with the overall experience. Maybe we went on an off day or something but just left not feeling satisfied. read more

Momiji is a sushi staple in Capitol Hill for a good reason. Their happy hour is always a hit and offers more affordable rolls and sushi sets that are great for splitting with friends. The service here has always been kind and generous, and they even were nice enough to give a complimentary dessert when I visited on my birthday. Came here for sushi and it did not disappoint! Fish was suuuper fresh and delicious. I came here on a Thursday evening and it was pretty packed. They asked if I was OK to sit at the bar. It was fine, although I was a little disappointed I didn't get to see the pretty decor in the back. At the bar, it was a bit loud but the two bartenders were extremely attentive and handled orders quickly. The food was also brought out pretty quickly! Immediately, they gave me edamame with some salt on top. Those were also pretty good. As for food, I ended up ordering the Salmon Sampler, Momiji Sashimi (a sashimi plate), Unagi nigiri, garlic short ribs, and a Seattle Roll (basically salmon avocado with cucumber). I really liked the Sea monster and Pike place rolls. Well balanced although a bit more rice than I personally like in my roll. Most of the sushi were very Americanized. Just massive and some like the Seattle roll were too sauce forward. The rolls also fell apart quite easily and were overwhelmed by the amount ingredients and flavors. There were no baby changing stations in the bathroom but they do have high chairs. Didn't have a bad time but not a place I need to visit again just because I like my sushi to be more about the fish but great place price and food quantity wise. read more

The service was just as impressive. Our server was friendly, attentive, and quick to answer our questions. They also gave excellent recommendations, which made the experience even better. I've heard about Momiji from friends over the years and a trip to Capitol Hill FINALLY led us here. Man, I've been missing out so hard. First off, this spot is definitely a little more on the upscale end. Not like you have to dress up super fancy or anything, but this would definitely be a solid date night spot or celebration outing. The space is overall really beautiful and the presentation of all of the food is perfection. Service was on point. We had reservations and were seated immediately, and our waitress was very attentive. Food didn't take too long at all to come out either, even on a busy Saturday night. For apps, we tried the Seafood Gyoza and Chicken Karaage. I don't think I've ever had seafood gyoza before, but as a seafood fan and a gyoza fan, it seemed like a no brainer. And it was! Cooked just right and overall delicious. The chicken karaage was no different. Incredibly crispy and the flavor was on point. I got the King Ghidorah roll which comes with spicy snow crab mix, tempura scallions, & avocado topped w/ spicy tuna, tempura unagi, sesame & scallions w/ spicy aioli, sweet chili & soy glaze. I'm a spicy tuna fanatic so this roll was a quick "yes" for me. Absolutely 10/10 no notes. Just get it. My fiancé and I also shared the Capitol Hill roll to share as well, and the seared salmon on that was the star. Another delicious choice that you won't regret. I will say that their prices are a little steep, but for the area, quality, and atmosphere, it's definitely worth it. 100% will keep Momiji in mind for future sushi cravings in Seattle. read more
Have ordered from uber eats a few times - mixed experiences. The chirashi bowl is awesome - super fresh fish, great variety, and large pieces. The sautéed mushrooms I've gotten twice - always taste great, but widely varied portions. The second time was disappointing for $19 worth of vegetables. The miso black cod is pretty good - standard, nice flavor but pretty small. I also got a roll once - the amount of fish was so small for a $27 roll - it was almost all asparagus and a few pieces didn't even have fish in them. On a couple bites, there was also SO much pepper I had to rinse my mouth, and I love spicy food. TLDR; mixed. Go for the chirashi. read more

I found Momoiji to be just okay and not quite worth the hype. My friend and I ordered some rolls but were a bit disappointed. The service was decent--the server was friendly--but overall nothing stood out. They do have plenty of indoor seating, though we had to wait a bit (30 min) before being seated and we made a reservation. On the plus side, they offer edamame as an appetizer. Overall, it was an average experience. read more

You gotta go here. We came for happy hour which is one of the best deals in Seattle. It is daily from 4-6 pm. The quality of sushi is incredible and their service was amazing as well. Our waters were constantly filled and the waitress was attentive to us. The layout of the place is beautiful and they have plenty of seating. I will be going back soon read more

The restaurant is deceptively large. Probably good for groups of all sizes with reservations. I would say they have an intimate atmosphere with the dim lights and romantic ambience. However, the restaurant is very loud and the tables are very close together, which makes it not intimate. They have very limited vegan options and honestly they're not that great. If you're with a large group of sushi eaters, I guess a vegan option is better than no vegan options. read more

Hi Douglas! There is no tatami room at this location.
Is there outdoor seating?
Yes! They have the cutest little garden area with a Japanese maple tree that has about 4 tables. I'm sure they close it in the winter months, but I went in the beginning of October and it was perfect. Definitely have to request in a reservation.
Is happy hour still 4-6 every day? And if so, does that include weekends? Thank you!
It did when I was there in October! We went on a Sunday and had mostly Happy Hour.
