    Peak omakase
    Samantha C.

If you're an apprentice of Chef Jiro, I expect the food to be spectacular..and it was. We got the peak omakase and everything was lovely! Such a good deal for so much food! Everything was honestly incredible, so you can't go wrong with their omakase. Make reservations if you can! They open at 5 and we saw people lining up at 2.

I've known about the infamous Sushi Kashiba forever since being in Seattle, and I finally got the chance to come visit! We made a reservation for dinner but they only had the tables available, not the bar. The inside is really nicely laid out and our table was in a side where we could see the sushi chefs preparing the pieces. We even saw Chef Kashiba himself while we were there! We of course got the omakase, which was a total of 22 pieces including non-sushi bites. The appetizer trio consisted of sashimi, bamboo, and a radish puree - while we loved the sashimi, the other two were just ok. The next course was a toro handroll which we thought was a bit odd since that usually comes later towards the end in omakase. The fish was fresh, but the seaweed was a little thick and chewy. Onto the next plate - 5 pieces of nigiri with my favorites being the otoro and sea bream. Special shoutout to the albacore as well (I've never had albacore so soft!). After this one, the 6 piece nigiri were a hit or miss - while I LOVED the kanpachi (probably my favorite piece of the night), some of the seared ones didn't feel that fresh or flavorful. We then got the chawanmushi which I actually really loved, and I'm thankful they were able to substitute the shrimp with rockfish for my allergy. Finally, for the dessert course we got some miso soup, a fried anago nigiri, and for me oranges (instead of the egg due to my shrimp allergy). I did think it was odd to get miso soup last, but the anago was really good and the oranges were nice and fresh. Overall, there were definitely some standout pieces (kanpachi, toro, and chawanmushi) but the overall omakase experience felt a little disjointed. I'm glad to have finally tried this spot though - the location is beautiful and definitely still worth a visit for the legacy!

Amazing experience at Sushi Kashiba. The space is dimly lit and has a nice ambience. The best part was obviously the food, but our server was amazing in elevating the experience. The sushi tasted fresh. I would definitely be coming back with my family again. Recommend making a reservation a month in advance.

Sushi Kashiba was hands down the most traditional omakase experience I've had in Seattle. The place was fully booked when we tried to reserve, so the only seating we could get was at 8:45pm. We sat at the sushi bar and were so pleasantly surprised to realize the person taking care of us was Shiro Kashiba himself! The sushi was incredible. It's extremely authentic and beautifully prepared. But what really elevated the experience was how Shiro explained each dish, sharing the story behind the fish and where it came from, whether it was sourced locally from Puget Sound or flown in from Japan. The quality of the sushi alone would make this a memorable meal, but being served by Shiro himself made the evening truly special. Would absolutely recommend this for a special occasion or for anyone looking for a classic omakase experience in Seattle.

Well. I don't even know where to start with this experience. All the amazing. ALL THE AMAZING! Supreme service, superb food, nice cozy atmosphere, and fair prices. The omasake was 100% worth it. Never left so full from sushi LOL Next time I'd stay away from the cocktails, those fell short, but hey, we were there for the sushi. And it did not disappoint. There's also counter dinning 3 times a night and the reservations are strict.

The sushi was good, and the ambiance offers a more open, public take on the omakase experience. My friend and I made reservations and were warmly welcomed. It's a convenient and enjoyable choice for omakase while visiting Pike Place Market.

Seared Kama Toro - collar of the tuna, my favorite piece!

My husband and I were lucky enough to snag a 7pm reservation on a Saturday. Sadly we weren't served by Shiro but was able to see him! We learned from the hostess that you can request him on your reservation or you have to be among the earliest to arrive in your seating to get him. He alternates days he works so it's never guaranteed. The omakase was $180 per person although we opted for an additional 3 piece seared course which was an extra $30 and well worth it. My favorite pieces were the seared Kama toro, uni, seared king salmon belly and albacore belly. My husband's favorites were the saba mackerel and scallop. The pickled herring was a surprisingly unique nigiri we both enjoyed too. We have tried a number of sushi restaurants in Seattle and Sushi Kashiba still ranks at the top! Sitting at the bar is definitely the way to go if you can get a counter reservation.

Definitely one of the better omakase's I've had! It was tucked away in a small area that you couldn't really find just from looking on the outside. We had a reservation for the bar and got sat pretty quickly. Both the staff and our chef was super attentive and really friendly. I really enjoyed how they presented each piece, as they went through the main types of fish at a time. All the salmons, then the tunas, etc. it really let me compare all the different cuts of the fish which is harder to do with standard omakase's. A lot of these fish melt in my mouth which is definitely an understatement! We also got the supplementary bites at the end which had some wagyu and more fish. This was all topped off with a super simple, light, and sweet tamago dessert which I wish I had more of. Overall a definite recommend if you're in the area and are open to splurging a bit on sushi

Awesome experience in Seattle with Matthew serving up some good drinks and banter. Had the torched Aburi toro and amberjack. Finished off with the shrimp tempura and chicken karaage. The tempura really knocked it out of the park!!

20 min until opening on Mother's Day weekend and the anticipation in the air was undeniable. We were extremely fortunate to land a 5pm Omakase reservation on Open Table about a week before our trip to Seattle. And because we were one of the 1st six people in the reservations line, we were seated/served by the master himself, Chef Shiro. For each set in the 21 + 3 add-on pieces sushi menu, he thoughtfully explained the types of fish and their origins.

    High Tea Cocktail

If you're looking for some of the best sushi in the Pacific Northwest, Sushi Kashiba absolutely deserves a spot on your list. Located by Pike Place Market, it's one of those places people talk about for a reason. The ambiance feels authentic, warm, and welcoming. Refined without feeling stuffy. Before even getting to the sushi, we started with a rye cocktail called the High Tea. It may be one of the most dangerously balanced cocktails I've had in a while. Smooth, flavorful, and so well balanced you almost forget there's alcohol in it. (Proceed with caution, or don't. Live your life.) We started with Nigiri. The Mackerel was definitely salty, as our server warned us ahead of time, but the Spanish Mackerel was more subtle and balanced. Both the King Salmon and Atlantic Salmon were excellent. Each piece had just the right amount of brushed wasabi. Enough to enhance the fish without overpowering it. For Maki, we tried the Spicy Tuna and the Kashiba roll. The Spicy Tuna had the perfect level of heat, even if you don't like spice. Noticeable but not overwhelming. The Kashiba roll was the only item that didn't fully land for me. It had a very strong ocean-forward flavor that some people may love, but it just wasn't quite my thing. Now, the star of the evening was the Black Cod. This is one of the dishes the restaurant is known for, and after trying it I completely understand why. It may honestly be the best cod I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, flaky, rich, and incredibly flavorful. Service was excellent throughout the night. The staff clearly know the menu well and guide you through the experience, and everything arrived surprisingly quickly considering the level of care in the preparation. Pro tip: None of the dishes are overly large and you can easily try many different things from the menu like we did without being too full. If you're visiting Seattle or simply want an exceptional sushi experience, Sushi Kashiba lives up to the hype.

Sushi Kashiba is truly a Seattle treasure. For over 50 years, Chef Kashiba has been perfecting his craft, and it shows in every bite. As a three time James Beard Award nominee for Outstanding Chef, his reputation speaks for itself, but it's the experience here that really makes it unforgettable. Located right next to Pike Place Market, Sushi Kashiba delivers fine Japanese cuisine in its purest form. The omakase-style dining is a must, just sit back and trust the artistry of Chef Kashiba and his team. Each course is beautifully prepared, perfectly balanced, and a reflection of decades of dedication to the craft. Reservations are highly recommended if you want to secure your spot, because this isn't just dinner. it's a culinary experience that draws visitors from all over the world. If you want the best sushi Seattle has to offer, Sushi Kashiba is the place.

High end sushi with high end prices around Pike Place Market. Went on a Sunday evening - had reservations, but had to wait a few minutes to talk to a staff member. Eventually was able to check in and was seated. The ambiance is your typical Japanese minimalistic/modern vibes. Ordered a small sake bottle as well as various sushi bits. Had all the nigiri salmon sushi pieces. Everything is good (maybe a little bland) - but the price sort of put me off for what it was (comparing to higher end sushi places in LA / NYC). Not sure I'd come back but will see.

Want to buy a gift card as a gift but can't tell the price of the meals, what would be a good amount to purchase?

Does this place take American Express?

    Yes! Of course!

How many spotsin their sushi bar?

    12!

How do we get on the waitlist for sushi bar? Do we come the day of and wait until they open at 5:00pm? If so, how early should we get in line?

Yes, you come the day of and wait. We arrived around 4:15 on a Wednesday and were given the second round of seating at 7pm. If you want to be seated at the first round at 5pm, I recommend arriving no later than 4pm (maybe earlier on the weekends).

How hard is it to get in (for two) at the chef's counter on a weeknight? If you arrive shortly before 5PM is it easy to get a spot or do you have to arrive way earlier?

It wasn't that hard for us at 5pm... and we had 5 people

How much is the omakase at the chef counter?

    $175

Where do you park ? I have a late reservation and am worried about how safe it is there

We parked at Pike Place Market and it was a short walk to the restaurant. At the time it was safe to park there but I haven't been that area since 2019.

Can someone tell me how much Omakase at the sushi bar will come out to?

Depends if you are drinking ....for two of us with sake it was over 300 plus tip

How much does the omakase cost for one person?

    $125/person

    Is outdoor seating available?

I didn't see any, but it was raining when I went.

Do they take parties of one? I am unable to make a reservation online. I don't want to be a "walk-in"

I don't see why not. Maybe try calling them instead of trying to make a reservation online.

    Is it omakase only?

No, you can also order individualized entrees.

I'm planning to go with my partner and want to try the omakase. My partner isn't adventurous when it comes to sushi. Is it possible to still sit at the bar with one person to experience the omakase and the other person with regular order?

    What is the dress code?

    There isn't one. But I wouldn't wear gym clothes. I think it's a 4 or 5 star restaurant.

I'm trying to make a reservation and 1 of the availability is 9pm, how does that work if they close at 9?

You can just ask them. We've only done take-out (learned of them during the pandemic), so we haven't dealt with reservations. But, they're very gracious and their customer service is really good!… Read more

Do they allow to split the check 2 ways?

Yes, and they will also do separate checks if you ask.

Does anyone know if chef Kashiba is there during the lunches as well or only dinners?

Shiro Kashiba? only dinner. Shiro Works 4 out of 7 days, Friday/Saturday +2 more

How does the sushi in the dining room compare to what you receive at the sushi bar?

Same quality. Restaurant is not that big so no matter where you sit, it's all great.

How far in advance do they take reservations?

I was able to make reservations 1 day in advance as long as you are flexible on time. They had either early or late once. We went at 8.

Reservations during off peak dinner hours aren't too difficult to get on a weeknight and street parking was fairly easy to find. The omakase / tasting menu is 19 bites, which is a decent amount of food, but overall the fish quality was really disappointing. There were only about 4-5 pieces of nigiri that tasted fresh and clean; the white fish that you start with in particular were just not a fun texture or flavor. The shellfish course and sweet shrimp were solid though. Unfortunately, besides the fish, the rice was a total flop too. It just felt dried out as if they had been pre portioned well ahead of time and under seasoned. Part of the joy of a course menu, if you want slightly warm / room temperature rice against the cool fish, but you get zero of that contrast here.

Tyson was an amazing server. Was attentive, accommodated our allergies and was thoughtful with us having a young child. He was so pleasant and polite! We enjoyed the following: Baked miso glazed eggplant - YUM and melts in your mouth. Black Miso Cod Collar - this was pleasantly surprising and so delicious. Eat bite was tender and flavorful. Simple yet so appetizing. Sushi rolls were both fresh and well prepared. The nigiri was also great and fresh- not fishy. We additionally ordered takoyaki - which I normally don't love but this one was very tasty and I enjoyed the texture. Lastly karage chicken which came with a creamy slaw. Overall it was such a pleasant experience and we look forward to coming back!

Established in 1904 in the heart of Japantown, the restaurant relocated to the ground floor of the NP Hotel after its original structure was ransacked during World War II, when Seattle's Japanese community was relocated to internment camps outside the city. The hotel where Maneki now resides served as repository for family heirlooms that were left behind during that embarrassing and tragic period of American history. The joy of dining at Maneki goes well beyond the restaurant's incomparable history. The traditional Japanese menu has something for every taste, from delicious Nigiri and Maki Sushi to noodle dishes and local seafood. Pair your meal with a classic Japanese cocktail or a cold bottle of Sake, and you'll understand why this is one of Seattle's best culinary experiences. Highly recommended.
