I went with a few friends during Restaurant Week. As expected during Restaurant Weeks, it was super packed. Thankfully, we were able to be seated at the main shared table. Tonkatsu Curry Udon Set ($35) - Panko tonkatsu with 224 umani curry and Japanese inaniwa udon, mini grilled BBQ Wagyu yakiniku don and umami poached egg. I love their curry! It's pretty complex in flavor with such amazing savoriness with the perfect consistency. The tonkatsu is crispy and yet the pork is super juicy and tender. The Wagyu has great beefy flavor over a bed of perfectly cooked rice. Taiwan Ramen ($17) - Oxtail broth, egg noodle, spiced ground pork, house made garlic oil, beansprout and chive. Hmm, I'm not sure what to make of this dish. The ground pork and noodle combination reminds me a bit of Zha Jiang Mian, Unfortunately the pork goes to the bottom of the bowl and then lost in the soup, making it hard to fish out. Mentaiko Cream Udon Set - I got to sample a bite of this and wow, it was amazing. It's super savory and creamy and coats their udon perfectly. I recommend getting this!

Stopped by for a quick lunch. Although it was busy the service was quick. I got the karaage chicken with Japanese curry. It really hit the spot. I'll definitely be back to try more of their menu.

ALL ABOUT SEAFOOD BENTO and Salmon CHIRASHI DONBURI

The ambiance and service are great here! The food is eclectic and beautifully presented. I got the seafood bento, and it came filled with raw fish, uni croquette, salad, grilled fish, and pickled vegetables. The croquette was creamy and filling, and the fish was fresh and soft. It was more than enough for one person. The drinks are delicious as well, and are on the lighter side. I'd highly recommend coming for their affordable happy hour and making a reservation!

Rondo is a casual, izakaya style restaurant, yet still classy enough take a date to. It's always so lively in the evenings, and a great place to hang out with friends. They offer many Japanese dishes, small plates, and drinks. I've been here a couple times, and you truly can't go wrong with anything you choose. The restaurant is small and compact, so it can get quite crowded and loud inside. I'd recommend making a reservation on weekends, especially with a large group. Definitely would suggest trying Rondo at least once.

Favorite Japanese izakaya in Seattle. Authentic Japanese street eats done well. Excellent happy hour with solid food and drink specials. Recommend checking out lunch bento specials are great. Friendly staff, lively, rowdy vibes- always a good time at Rondo! Favorite dishes include the Bara Chirashi Donburi, uni cream croquette, spicy negitoro roll spicy tuna on crispy rice. Save room for the deluxe parfait - delicious and perfect for sharing.

Rondo is a great spot for appetizers and fresh sushi, I also think their happy hour is a hidden gem in Seattle. The only reason I'm giving them a three star review is because I got the black garlic shoyu ramen and the oxtail was 95% fat. Although the broth and vegetables in the dish were great that was very off putting.

Had a great happy hour at Rondo Japanese Kitchen. I'd read that their bara chirashi donburi is a must-try, and luckily it's on the daily happy hour menu. I ordered that along with the spicy tuna on crispy sushi rice and a sake. The chirashi was a standout--loaded with sweet shrimp, wagyu beef, uni, and a generous variety of fresh seafood. The spicy tuna crispy rice was also solid, with a really interesting, flavorful twist. The vibe (as you can see in the photos) is warm and inviting, with an open kitchen that adds to the experience. Service was friendly and quick, which made everything even better. Highly recommend if you're in the neighborhood.

Fun authentic Japanese spot with great food! Has all the basics covered and then some. Came with 8 people and got a wide spread. I got the pork katsu curry and it was delicious. Good portions, fun spot.

Flew in from San Diego and checked this spot out as our first meal. Parking on the street was easy but gotta pay a few bucks. Service was excellent! Server was very nice and had great recommendations. Food came out very fast which was a plus for us. The ribs were amazing. The bento boxes are huge. We got random noodles with soup for the kids and it was surprisingly one of the highlights. Highly recommend checking this place out!

Amazing food! We ordered karage and salmon lunch combo, as well as a Tonkatsu set. Very authentic and delicious. Service was great. The vibe is good. We were lucky to get a seating immediately during lunch hour. This place is packed with people. There is designated parking in the building so parking is very convenient.

I read some reviews and feel like most people think the same thing about the Bara Chirashi Donburi so I'll keep it succinct: great presentation and a great variety of ingredients, but they don't combine for a cohesive dish whatsoever. A good example is what is a random piece of beef doing at the front of my dish? I did enjoy some of the meats like the shrimp, but I thought most of the fish wasn't super fresh or high quality. There was still some flavor though so I wouldn't say I had an unpleasant experience by any means - just probably not an experience worth $25. We went around 3pm for happy hour - service was pretty fast but that might've been because there were around 4 other people inside eating. Ambience was pretty standard for a casual Japanese restaurant. 3.4/5

When we visited on a Saturday for lunch at noon, the place was completely packed. The owner gave us an estimated 30 minute wait time, which steadily increased to over 45 minutes by the time we got our food 25 minutes later. I think this scared away a lot of people so it started to clear out soon afterwards. The restaurant is small and cramped with about 20 seats in a really tiny space with barely any room to move. It's completely self service; order at the kiosk, pick up food and utensils from the counter, then bus the table after finishing. Pork Katsu Soup Curry, Spicy Level 4 ($24) - The entree comes with two dishes, one with the rice, tonkatsu, and a slice of lemon, the other with the curry soup. The rice approaches being mushy, not giving the best mouthfeel. The tonkatsu isn't great either. It has a thick breading that's only fried until very slightly crisp on the outermost layer, with the rest of the breading becoming gummy and unpleasant. The pork isn't dried off that well before being breaded, so the crust detaches without much effort. The pork itself is fine; it's thinly pounded, not super overcooked or tough. Neither the pork nor the breading is seasoned much, if at all, so both are bland. Things improve when switching over to the soup curry. The soup has a concentrated savory curry flavor, filled with salt and curry spices with just a hint of tanginess to round things out. At spicy level 4, it's barely spicy at all, barely heating up the mouth at all. They actually deep fry veggies to order with the dish - in this case, a whole potato (probably par baked first), some eggplant, and broccoli. This gives a nice crust on the outside, which also helps them retain some texture in the soup. The potato, unfortunately, isn't cooked all the way through; the thickest part of the interior still is a bit hard with a raw potato taste. The curry also comes with two shishito peppers and a simply boiled quarter carrot. I got unlucky (or perhaps lucky?) getting one of the rare spicy shishitos, which turned out way more spicy than the broth. (4/5) Aojiru Beef Brisket Soup Curry, Spicy Level 2 ($24) - I think the base is the same, but is modified by adding a bunch of pureed green, and the substitution of tomatoes and cilantro for fried broccoli. The result? A much more vegetal tasting curry. There's no bitterness to be had here. For some reason, this curry at spice level 2 is more spicy than the other one at spice level 4. Still not very spicy at all, but it's definitely inconsistent. Instead of tonkatsu, this comes with four pieces of slowly stewed beef brisket. It's excellent, with both fatty and lean pieces, all the toughness cooked out by hours upon hours of being stewed. I would definitely choose the beef brisket over the katsu in the future. (4/5) Curry Lab Sapporo serves some warm and comforting food. While their food definitely has some issues, they still bring a flavorful and unique dish to the Seattle area. I'd visit again to try more. Bathrooms - Single unisex room.

The restaurant is smaller, with tables for mostly two or four people. They have an outside area, though the tables were not set up when we went. Very good to know for future reference. Karaage is in the name and is their signature dish. They make it the right way using chicken thigh. Prices are reasonable for the Seattle area. We will return again. The Food: Curry Rice with Karaage, $17.95 - 4 Stars This popular curry rice comes with a choice of protein, which naturally, we chose karaage. The curry sauce is delicious. There is a lot of rice on this plate though. Hubby left half behind. Poke Salad with tuna, $14.95 - 5 Stars Their poke salad with choice of 3.5 oz protein was excellent with the mixed greens. The salad wasn't overdressed and tasted refreshing with a light dressing. I would order this again. Karaage Chicken, small, $6.95 - 5 Stars Glad they offer the chicken as a side. The small is a good compliment to salad. Instead of four pieces, we had five. Hubby was happy to have more protein to go with the rice. They are more of a 4.5 stars rating. This comes in a very large cup, with layers of matcha ice cream, cornflakes, vanilla whippedd cream, and mochi at the bottom. I'll be honest that the matcha ice cream wasn't my favorite. I'm not a huge fan of matcha in general, but I have had examples where the sweetness balances with the earthiness better - and this felt like it leaned too much into the earthiness side of it. It just tasted off when mixed with everything else. What was exceptional, though, was the second and third layers. Mixing the cornflakes with the vanilla whipped cream/yogurt layer was awesome. The crunchy texture provided with the creamy vanilla flavor really worked - and it felt like what the essence of a parfait is with the textural and flavor contrast. I think I would've liked this a lot more if the top had been vanilla ice cream instead - submitting a request to have that as an option on the menu. This was pretty expensive. It cost 14 dollars for a single parfait. That's just a crazy amount. I know it's pretty big, but it's simply overpriced. Overall, it's a decent but not very practical dessert. 5.5/10

Daruma has the set up of a no-frills establishment that knows they're going to be churning out orders. The kiosk order system isn't that common in the US because it seems ridiculously unfriendly, but Japan is about efficiency with a focus on the food. They only had two people working here so it was slow, but absolutely worth it. The spicy chicken katsu was incredible. Everything that was on this sandwich had a reason for being there. The cutlet itself was incredibly juicy and crispy. The right amount of sauce was applied so as to not make the sandwich itself soggy (critical on a sandwich with fried elements), and then the cabbage on top gives it a bit of freshness. I love Japanese curry, and was so stoked to see such a unique curry on the menu (made with dark chocolate so it gives a richer flavor). $5 more to add shredded cabbage and miso soup; I definitely think this is worth it because there's no other fresh greens in the entree. It helps cut the heavy, fried-ness of the katsu and provides a different texture. My shrimp (ebi) katsu curry was so flaky and crispy, which is so hard to find at katsu shops where the breading is cakey and falls off the protein. However, the shrimp to flakes ratio was off and I could hardly taste the shrimp or know when I bit shrimp versus the flakes because there was so much breading. This wasn't a problem for the pork katsu, though! The portion size is massive; half the plate is rice, and the other half is the curry. For $29 for the shrimp katsu ($34 total pre tax and tip after adding the shredded cabbage and miso soup combo), I think it's worth the price if you're starving or sharing. I think it'd be cool if they did a protein combo where you pick two proteins, especially because they have a variety of pork options. This would help people justify their cost while tasting more of the menu with less overwhelming commitment. Servers are kind and attentive, and they don't rush you when you order or need more time. The interior is beautiful and well-lit with bar seating, tables and booths, and high top tables too. I'd come again if I wanted to share a katsu entree with a friend!
