This is our second time here. The last time we were here, I gave it 4 stars. I believe it just opened the last time we went. So they must have ironed out opening kinks because we had a better experience this time around. The katsu we ordered were all good. The rosu pork is my preferred cut, because it is a little fattier than the tenderloin. It was tender and crunchy outside. I loved the grated radish. One of us got the salmon katsu and she loved it. It was a thick slice, but it looked moist inside. Our server was really nice and knowledgeable with her suggestions. The food came out without much wait, even if they were about 80% full. The server was attentive, always asking us how our food was and refilling our ice waters. Love the space and tasty, simple decor of this restaurant. There's covered parking attached to the apartment complex above. This place is surely comparable to the other katsu places here in Seattle. I'm glad it's in our neighborhood. read more

Found this place on a whim and we very happy with our selection. If you are looking for Katsu, the possibilities are endless here. We went with the traditional Katsu. It was light and fluffy and full of flavor. It came with a traditional cabbage salad which was very refreshing. The udon curry was right up my wife's alley, and I do like curry but I'm not the biggest udon noodle fan. It still was very full of flavor and delicious. Side note, the dressing or sauce that was in the table was let me say to die for. We put it on everything. If I had it on hand all the time it would probably be a condiment that I used on a very regular basis. The service was top notch and our server was very sweet and patient. We took awhile to look over the whole menu and there are so many things that I would come back for just to try. The only let down was the edamame as it is a staple that we usually order at any restaurant when available. They were very hot and cold and felt like it was a frozen edamame that was nuked in the microwave. The establishment itself was very modern looking with a very clean vibe. We will definitely be back. We really enjoyed our Kurobuta Katsu and Katsu Nabe--the katsu was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a rich and authentic flavor. I especially loved that we got to grind the toasted sesame seeds ourselves, which added a fresh, nutty aroma and made the experience feel even more traditional. Greeted and sat promptly. Interior is low lit and cozy. Started with fries which were standard. Son got the pork tenderloin katsu meal which came with miso, rice, and cabbage. I liked that they included a mini Japanese mortar and pestle to freshly grind sesame seeds then mix with the katsu sauce (delicious). Hubby tried the salmon katsu curry udon which was huge but difficult to eat, perhaps scissors would help to cut it table side. You might be able to tell in the photos, but my group and I share all our items and we were served the curry item first and we completely finished the curry dish before the other two were served. Top notch tonkatsu in Lynnwood! I had their kurobuta katsu with Nagoya miso sauce for lunch. What I love is the panko has large pieces that add a huge crunch to every bite, yet the batter isn't so thick that it overwhelms the pork. Speaking of the pork, this was a very generous portion of thick tenderloin, I had to take half home as leftovers. Staff was very friendly and helpful when ordering, the food takes a little while to come out because they make each order fresh and hot. Love the modern styling with traditional elements too. Street parking is hit or miss, I hear there's retail parking in the building somewhere but have yet it. Perhaps the website should give us directions to the entrance of the lot. read more

Fellow Yelp Elite/IGer Carol C and I met up for brunch at Tokuni right at their 11am opening (2/7/26). Street parking around the vicinity was a bit scarce on this rainy Saturday. Reading other Yelp posts, looks like there is complimentary garage parking while dining onsite. The restaurant interior was sleek with table/booth seating around the perimeter. Our wait person was very helpful and well versed with the menu providing helpful recommendations. The menu provided a variety of preparations: lunch bento, apps, sandos, bowls, noodles, katsu with rice, shredded cabbage, and various sauces like ponzu, curry, as examples. There's also beverages and a few ice cream based desserts. Other staff members worked in tandem taking away dishes and refilling our water glasses throughout our meal. I appreciated their unobtrusiveness during our 90 minute brunch. We both started with the chawanmushi appetizer. This version had sliced fish cake and chicken tendon with a pleasant custard consistency, served hot. Carol selected an impressive entree, one of the katsu nabe. Nicely prepped cutlet with a bubbling hot soup base placed above a heat source. This came with shredded cabbage and black sesame topped steamed rice. I went with a favorite, but with a twist. I picked a menchi katsu don bowl. This was a generous serving of minced pork and beef prepped cutlet, tender egg, and roasted onion atop steamed rice with a balanced sweet and savory sauce. I really enjoyed this and it was very filling. Katsu is having a moment, whether as a sando, burger, bowl, or entree. It is better than Hurry Curry of Tokyo (Seattle/SLU), but I feel Kobuta and Ookami (Seattle/Capitol Hill & Redmond) slightly edges them out. I look forward to returning and trying other menu items. Was craving katsu and decided to give this place a try! It's located near apartment complex's and there's parking in the garage for retail which is really nice if you can't find street parking. I ordered the regular cutlet and it came with miso soup and rice. Best part has to be the cabbage and sesame dressing at katsu restaurants and this place is no different. Food was great but service could have been better. Being one of 2/3 tables dining in, we didn't get checked up on at all. Not very attentive with things like water refills or noticing we finished all the food and want the bill. Interior is nice and small, clean and trendy. I had high hopes for Tokuni, given all the hype I was seeing on social media. Not sure if the demand and long lines may have died down, but on a Wednesday at 11am, there was no line at all. The Rosu Katsu came with rice, cabbage, miso soup, and toasted sesame seeds that you grind and add the katsu sauce to in which to dip the katsu. As the star on the plate, the katsu was unfortunately not as crispy as I was expecting, and the pork loin was a bit dry. Dipping it in the sauce did help, but I feel like the katsu should be able to hold its own. The sesame dressing was a hit - I would honestly buy a bottle of that to take home. Generous portion size overall, I took a little less than half of the meal home to enjoy as leftovers. The staff here were super kind and attentive. There is limited street parking around the block, or also in the garage (entrance is half a block down from the restaurant entry). From the parking garage, you can take a nice stroll through the apartment complex courtyard to get to the restaurant. Swung by the tea place next door for a sweet treat afterwards! read more

I got the regular chicken rice bowl, I thought the flavor was decent, but the portion was on the smaller side. Price was slightly on the higher end but in this economy, some might consider it average. Service wise, we were originally going to get the lunch bento but the server said it is not available on the weekends which nothing on the menu specified that. We got there first thing they opened and the server didn't seem very nice about it when she said it wasn't available which that was a little disappointing. The positives: modern and airy space; prompt, friendly service; great value (the price is right for the portions); easy parking in the building garage. Negatives: all relate to the food itself. First of all, it's not a nihonjin-operated business, so do not expect authenticity. I wouldn't normally hold that against the food, but the prep is just all over the place. The Oroshi (grated daikon) is chunky - it should be smooth/pureed; the miso soup is way too salty; and the katsu, while seemingly well-fried, suffers from a soggy bottom (despite being propped on a wire rack on the plate). You can see the limp/damp under-coating falling off the katsu in one of the photos for this review. Potato salad and karaage were drenched in black pepper, too. I dunno. The pictures drew us to Tokuni and happy to announce this place blew us away. Tokuni is a rather new joint specializing in Katsu in all its forms, and we were happy to give it a shot. The restaurant was spotless and the service was prompt, and we ordered a Nagoya style miso katsu (chicken) and a Curry Rosu Katsu (pork). The presentation was immaculate and the attention to detail was impressive. The curry katsu came with a cute pot to ration it to your own taste, the miso katsu as well. It was cooked perfectly with what you want to see from a good katsu spot- A crispy exterior with a perfectly tender center. Its probably the best katsu I've had outside of Japan, which is the best compliment I could offer. Every menu item sounded the same when I read it, so it was hard to get interested in them. I figured out that you have the same choice of proteins, and you're picking a serving style. Nearly all of them are carb-heavy; this place is aiming for comfort food. My brother went with tofu katsu donburi, while I went with chicken katsu curry rice. The curry was served to the side, looking like gravy. I dipped each katsu piece into the curry, which was at least good for portion control. Neither the chicken nor the tofu protein wowed. Certainly crispy on the outside, but I wish the chicken had been marinated in something. The tofu was just kind of plain. For me the highlight was my brother's sweet, yet acidic yuzu martini. Tonkatsu is a dish we make at home frequently since it is a family favorite. But once in a while we like to be spoilt by going to a restaurant and giving my wife a rest. We were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! The location is in a quieter area with street parking and an adjacent lot across the street. Arriving at 6:45 on a Sunday evening, we got a table quickly and it got crowded soon after. Our orders were taken quickly and it did take some time for the order to arrive which is normal for cook-to-order dishes. This is not fast food :) We had the kurobuta katsu, the kurobuta curry katsu, the kurobuta Nagoya miso katsu, and the hi-re katsu. Portions were generous. Cabbage was shredded as fine as in Japan restaurants. There was a sesame dressing for the cabbage and the house sauce for the katsu. Everyone was very satisfied with our choices. Even the normal hi-re katsu was delicious so perhaps the kurobuta was a tad luxurious :) The restaurant is well spaced and not too noisy. Family friendly. Nice variety of katsu dishes all the hit the sport for our party of 5. Personally I had the mozzarella katsu and it was perfect. Nice and crispy on the outside with great cheese pull. Everyone seemed to enjoy their dishes as well. The only part I was a bit disappointed in was the lack of stuff in their chawanmushi (steam egg). Visited this spot a couple times already and I see what it's trying to do with offering another choice for a katsu experience that is outside of Seattle. The atmosphere of the restaurant feels like a good spot to dine for dinner and there's a reasonable amount of tables, so you wouldn't have a problem getting a seat. The service isn't anything to really rave about, they do their job and that's as much as you can expect. So nothing wrong with that. Honestly the food isn't too wild either. I'd hate to compare this with Ookami and Kobuta, but they are definitely trying to compete with them by offering similar dishes and choices. If you don't want to drive out to Redmond or Capitol Hill and are fine with just any kind of katsu, then this Tokuni is right for you. read more

The katsu was absolutely delicious, perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. My favorite was the pork mozzarella katsu. It was so flavorful and the cheese inside made it even better. You can really tell it's made fresh and with care. One of my favorite parts was the unique touch of getting a mortar and pestle to grind your own sesame seeds for the dipping sauce. Was very excited to try Tokuni out because I've been looking for a solid katsu spot up north that's not around the Bellevue/Redmond area. This restaurant just opened October 1st and deserves all the recognition. We got the Hire Katsu Nagoya miso and the Hire Katsu Curry. The miso katsu came with rice, shredded cabbage and miso soup. Both the miso and curry sauce came on the side. The pork was fried perfectly, very crispy, and golden color. Each dish came with 4 pieces of Katsu which I thought was filling. The miso sauce was more on the salty side than sweet and the curry sauce was very rich and tangy. The rice was cooked nicely. Soft opening has a special deal going on. I think the prices are fair for what katsu goes these days, I wish they had the sesame you could ground up to make your own sauce. I've been waiting for this place to open for a long time since I live in the area. One of my friends messaged we should go and I drove by and didn't even realize it was open. Apparently based on other reviews it's a soft opening but the experience didn't feel anything like it and it felt it was just open. Luckily we came here before it opened and my friend had the smart idea to be the first in line, as the line quickly grew behind us. Upon opening we were seated right away and first thing I noticed was everything was clean, probably because the building and restaurant was still practically brand new. Looking at the menu I already knew we were about to eat some incredible food. Keep in mind the restaurant is pretty small so I would assume getting here earlier and waiting in line would be ideal. Unfortunately they didn't have any kurabuta pork that day, but I don't think it mattered personally. Everything was still fantastic. Very happy for a soft opening, they had alcohol ready to go. Had to kind of figure out what they had available on the menu here. Yes, there was a little thing on the table that told you some of the things they had, like a sake sampler and other sake bottles, but we didn't know what beer they had until we asked. Also looking near the kitchen area we noticed some Japanese whiskey which looked like Hibiki? Would be nice if they carried a larger selection of Japanese whiskey so maybe in the future? As for the food, we ordered a lot to try out. Ebi (shrimp) Katsu Toji, Rosu (pork loin) Katsu Nabe, Hire (pork tenderloin) Katsu Oroshi Ponzu Sauce Katsu, Hire Katsu Curry Udon, and a side of Menchi (minced pork and beef basically a meatball) Katsu. Don't sweat the menu. Basically all the Katsus are the same and the only thing you have to consider is what you would like to compliment it with. My personal favorite was the Curry Udon with the Hire Katsu. The infusion of curry with the slick udon noodles was so good and dipping the crispy katsu in to the curry adds so depths levels of flavor and textures. The next best IMO would be the Katsu Toji. Almost like a "Don" but has more of that sweet sauce into almost a broth hits the spot. Unfortunately it does lose some of the natural crunchiness of the katsu because of the way it's prepared, so choosing it with the ebi shrimp was great because the snap of the shrimp adds a little bit of snap texture. Was too full to eat dessert. Looking at some of the other reviews would love to try it out next time. Overall a good experience and so happy to have a restaurant like Tokuni hit Lynnwood as it will be undeniable there will be more similar quality restaurants coming to this area soon. read more

Waited around 40 minutes to get seated, which was fine since we went to order drinks from next door anyway. After being seated we still had to wait around 20-30 minutes (post ordering) to get our food. They claim its because it takes a while to deep fry made to order, but I question the efficiency of the methodology. I'm not a restaurant owner though so fine, benefit of the doubt. The missus ordered hire katsu toji, I ordered Nagoya miso katsu rosu. They ran out of kurobuta katsu, womp womp. They brought out her toji but forgot the shredded cabbage until I asked explicitly (awks). Service is definitely sparse because of the number of staff vs seated customers, so don't expect "better" service than smaller places. Miso katsu is generally sweet but the outer crust should stick to the meat. Missus definitely ordered a more tasty dish, but I'm glad it's cheaper and better variety here. I did notice the quality of the katsu is quite high. They definitely pride themselves in the quality of the meat cuts. It's not as good quality of a cut as kobuta, but there is more variety here, between the new ones like Nagoya miso katsu and toji. The meats are exactly $5 less here than kobuta. Cabbage amount was not as much as the portion size here definitely felt smaller. Ambiance wise the soundtrack is light enough to hear it, but not overpowering. The normal conversation of other tables will overpower the soundtrack. I did consider the sake sampler but decided against it. We both left super full. One bathroom stall for each gender - you need a code from staff to get in. Parking is attached in the apt complex but you have to drive past HECHALOU on the main road to see it. Itll say "future resident parking" - go in, drive up the ramp and park on the right side, where it says "retail parking" (clear signage). A spontaneous visit to a Japanese restaurant in Lynnwood. If I see Tonkatsu in the menu, I gotta have it. Their Tonkatsu was delicious, flaky panko, and not oily at all. Side dishes were good too, and always gotta chug it down with an Asahi Dry. Service is quick and such a clean place. Highly recommend coming here for a lunch date. read more

EDIT: Edit to add another visit on Halloween where there was no wait time to get in and the food came at a more reasonable time. Unfortunately, we were told they no longer offer refills on cabbage or rice, which is a huge bummer (especially if the rice bowl isn't full). Wait time is a common complaint here. They're still soft opening so somewhat expected but it is crazy. They have a paper waitlist at the front and will call the number provided when they're ready. We waited 40 minutes to get seated and then another 59 minutes to get our food. Staff is friendly, but not sure what's up with the staffing. Our table also got the food in different intervals, there was a bit of a wait after the first meal came. Some street parking available outside but there's a lot across, home to different shops, that is convenient. We also heard about their "up to 15% off" promotion but forgot until now. They actually didn't bring this up and there was no information in store (it's on their social media and noted in Google plus Yelp reviews). After checking the receipt, can confirm this wasn't honored and from reading the reviews, there's a fun little activity to get the discount that we indeed didn't experience. On the bright side, food was tasty. Katsu is definitely comparable to the popular Kobuta and the location is solid. Not having to head down to Seattle or Redmond is a plus. Meal is filling and they seem to offer cabbage refills, but it's not quite advertised or mentioned. Verbally they offered it to another table. Oroshi Ponzu Sauce Hire Katsu - I was mainly interested in the ponzu sauce as an upgrade to the basic katsu option. The grated radish is definitely an acquired taste, I was shocked the first time I tried grated radish in Japan because of the texture. Not sure if it was the ponzu sauce, but this one was extremely bitter. Besides that, the katsu was delicious. Juicy, tender, and perfectly breaded. I'd skip the oroshi ponzu and opt for the basic or miso options. read more

The servers were very kind and checked on us frequently! It was a longer wait time for the food but keep in mind it's a soft opening and they're adjusting. The interior design + the rainy weather was the ideal moody, fall atmosphere. It felt cozy and comfortable. My favorite part of the course was the dessert, croissant was warm & flaky and the matcha/vanilla ice cream combination was chef's kiss for the season!! The katsu curry rice was not as rich as I'd like it to be, and I found the chicken katsu to be more dry :( maybe I'll get kurobuta pork next time since that tends to be more juicy, but not my preference My cousin got the gyudon and that tasted much better, I would opt for this instead! I saw the signs for Tokuni a couple of months ago while driving through the area and wondered when they were opening. Just yesterday I surreptitiously looked them up and to my surprise, their website stated they were soft opening today, Oct 1. I decided to visit for lunch, arriving just a bit past opening time at 11AM, to be greeted with a clean and inviting restaurant, and four tables already filled with customers. Since this was soft opening, on the first day no less, I expected some hiccups. To my surprise, everything seemed to be running smoothly (although, the restaurant never really got that full). The waitresses were friendly and attentive and the menu, while limited for the soft opening, has plenty of items for everyone. The only thing I'd say could be improved is service time from the kitchen since it took over 30 minutes for my meal to arrive, but I assume that will be straightened out when they figure out a good flow in the back. Rosu Katsu Curry Rice ($19.95) - Katsu - They use a decent size piece of loin, complete with fat strip along the side, then bread and fry it. The fry quality is pretty good, leaving the panko exterior lightly crisp and not overladen with oil. The interior, while cooked until completely well done, isn't dried out or tough and instead still easily chews and has enough moisture not to feel dry. It's very fresh porky in taste - it doesn't taste like they use much seasoning on either the meat nor the panko, so the natural flavors of the pork really come through. The breading doesn't adhere that well, detaching in large clumps and just a glance at the surface of the meat indicates there's a bit too much moisture there. They also place the katsu on top of the rice. Panko, unfortunately, doesn't stand up that well to additional moisture, so the breading that faces the rice gets soggy quickly. Rice - I believe this is a medium grain rice, but it's cooked absolutely perfectly and eats like a short grain. It has fantastic mouthfeel and great fragrance. The rice is great to eat just by itself. There's not much else I could ask for. Curry - The curry is a good consistency, being thick in viscosity enough to cling onto the rice well. It's on the sweeter side with just a hint of bitterness, and is a bit lacking in the curry flavor department for my tastes. There's no spiciness at all, but the table has both shichimi and rayu to add some heat (in fact, two waitresses came over and suggested to add the rayu). The curry is served it in a small metal gravy boat on the side so it doesn't get the katsu soggy. Well appreciated. I don't think they give enough curry though. I found myself having to ration the curry while eating and my last couple of bites of rice didn't have any sauce left over to cover. Other Components - The dish comes with two other items. Firstly a salty and tangy fukujinzuke, perfect between bites of curry rice. Then, plenty of cabbage/red cabbage, sliced thinly as normal with tonkatsu. At first I thought it was a small amount on top of the rice, but it's actually almost enough to be a side salad. They provide a sesame dressing at the table to squeeze on top. Overall food rating: 4/5 For the soft opening, Tokuni is running a kind of strange promotion. When the check arrives, the waitress will shuffle three envelopes, with the customer selecting one. There's a paper inside each one and the meal gets discounted by whatever gets drawn. I assume the discounts are 5%, 10%, and 15%. I got the 10%. Tokuni is a very strong competitor to Kobuta & Ookami in the more premium tonkatsu space. It's certainly a great addition to Lynnwood and I would visit again to try out their other menu items, although not necessarily the curry again.
