    Mille-Feuille nabe
    Sara M.

If I could give 100 stars i definitely would. I wasn't feeling the best today but man!!! The food you can't beat!! Authentic delicious comforting hot pots like sukiyaki and Mille-feuille nabe. The katsudon was to die for I thought it was chicken it was so enjoyable!! The service was absolutely something to write home about. I was quite entertained and felt the love of each dish with how wonderfully they crafted everything!! The ambiance is amazing and flourishes!!! Definitely come down here!! They get pretty busy but I'm so happy I came here tonight. Cheered me and my friend right up!!!

This is our second time here. We wanted to try the Millefeuille Nabe, which looks very attractive and beautifully presented as a hotpot dish. We also had the Sukiyaki Nabe which was delicious, as well. We also enjoyed the Agedashi Tofu which had thick cubes of fried tofu. The Ebi Mayo was unique, never had it any restaurant before. It's a small restaurant with a few tables. It's brightly lit. The service is friendly and amiable The Korean owners are nice and very professional.

I came when this place opened earlier this year so I am sad to hear that the owners have changed along with their menu. While dining here, I had their mille-feuille nabe (hot pot with napa cabbage & pork belly slices) which came in a set with rice and small side dishes. The nabe definitely hit the spot because it was cold that night. The service was friendly and the inside felt cozy. I don't mind going back to try their new menu one day :)

As another Yelper mentioned, it seems like there is new ownership. The menu has more Korean items now compared to other menu photos. When I was there, I think it was the owners working. I asked if the nabe was still available and thy said no; it sounds like many folks were looking for this and have asked too. Despite the menu change, I ordered the katsudon and it was tasty. The presentation was nice, served on the tray with miso soup and side. The pickled cabbage had a nice vinegary flavor. Everything had lots of umami and was served hot/fresh. It's def a nice homey-vibe restaurant and friendly owners!

To start off - service was great! The presentation of the food was nice as well. My rating is strictly based on food. The menu I reviewed on google was 5 months old & outdated. I didn't know this till I arrived. The two seafood items seafood rice bowl & salmon rice bowl are no longer offered which was disappointing. I wasn't interested in any deep fried bowls or udon. I ended up getting the App Chicken Karaage with a side of rice since I was already there. Nothing special, little bland. I prefer ones served @ ramen houses. I wouldn't come again unfortunately.

This was a spontaneous dinner stop, and due to traffic I ended up meandering from Bothell, to Kenmore, cutting through Brier to the west side of Mountlake Terrace to check out Matsunaga Japanese Cuisine (2/11/25). It turns out I had visited two other businesses in the vicinity. Popular businesses since the shared parking lot was fairly full. The restaurant was very clean and could use some wall decor or foliage to warm up the interior. Soft jazz was heard overhead. It was a chilly evening, so the hot tea definitely was a great welcome as I perused the food and beverage menu. Menu items include apps (edamame, gyoza, karaage, agedashi tofu, and korokke), five kinds of donburi, butano kakuni, four kinds of udon, and five kinds of nabe. The latter would be ideal with the current wintery weather. As others mentioned, a nice break to see other choices beyond sushi and ramen. It seems this is a mother and daughter family run restaurant. The daughter provided attentive and welcoming service. There was another solo diner two tables over, two sets of trios also dined onsite after I was seated, and one person came in for takeout. Despite the dinner rush, the vibe remained calm and serene. The mom/chef did not seem stressed with the sudden influx of customers. The person who came in for takeout, decided to have a small sake while waiting. The gyoza and katsudon was nicely prepared - both visually and a palate pleaser! I appreciated the miso soup, salad, and other vegetable accompaniments. I was pretty tired and hungry upon arrival, but after this delicious meal I left satiated and satisfied. I also enjoyed the chocolate baked treat - madeleine or financier - nice way to end my dinner. This hole in the wall, family run spot is a wonderful culinary find in Mountlake Terrace!

Oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl)

I had a positive experience at Matsunaga! It seems like a small family-business run by a husband and wife, and they were very friendly. I ordered the Oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl). It was tasty - the dark meat chicken was tender and plentiful, and I especially liked the egg and the light, savory yet slightly sweet flavoring. It came with a little veggie side dish and a miso soup. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant! I would come back to try something else from their menu.

The greater Seattle area has a lot of Japanese restaurants that are heavily focused on Sushi and ramen. Nice to finally see an addition of something else. We tried the oden & the pork belly. Both were very delicious! Pork belly was super well marinated that melts in your mouth. Oden is very generous in portion--it's enough for like 2 girls honestly. A lot of oden can be too greasy from the residual oil from all the fried fish cakes, but the broth was very clear and fresh. Service was prompt and friendly. The open kitchen was very clean. The place has about 6 tables from what I remember. I didn't see a line necessarily, but I can see this happening once they're a bit more well known. Add some bar seats maybe? Would definitely come back to try more things!

Beef hotpot (nabe), soup is super fresh and full of flavor!

Food is amazing, ingredients are super fresh and you can see they put a lot of efforts into cooking/plating. Waitress is super duper sweet, but they only have 1 waitress/cashier, so the wait can be very long. I think once they hire more staff, the experience will be even better. Def recommend and will come back!! Restaurant is in a small plaza, plenty of parking spaces

Great spot! Stopped on the way up from Seattle to Vancouver. We were very hungry and needed something quick and refreshing. The food was hot and so delicious. The menu is concise with a nice variety of options. I had the Oyako Don and my husband had the Unagi Don. The food came out quickly and it was hot. It was served with a red miso soup and pickled cabbage. The dishes were beautiful Japanese porcelain. If we lived here we would definitely be regulars.

Cozy homey dining experience. It's a small restaurant with an casual 5 tables. Everything is neat and clean. They start you off with a hot tea and the server is a sweet lady who is very attentive. Ordered the most beautiful thing on the menu and the layers of shisho leaves compliment the cabbage and beef flavor, it's a heavenly warm combination. Their rice is fluffy, the side dishes od seaweed salad and pickled cabbage was flavorful, and all the portion sizes was just right. Definitely coming back here to try all their other dishes, even if it's a bit of a drive, it's 100% worth it to me!

Love this place! This is where my family and I come to celebrate the good things happening in our life :-) The food here is special. The ingredients are fresh and food is made to order. I wrote this poem in February after my first visit here. I'm now posting it as a review after my second visit. -- MATSUNAGA Oh dont give me the gimmicks. I only want their sunny strip mall table. Their deep bowls, nice plates, wood trays, and dainty patterned cups. Give me the hoodie the waitress is wearing, mentions and hashtags I've had enough. Influencer hype is not real, Many reviews are deceit. To enjoy is to accept a warm welcome, a hand waving softly, please have a seat. Take me to the Japanese restaurant-- Matsunaga. The food is simple, made by mothers, beautiful, and well prepared. Matsunaga: one neat row of lucky cats, and paper lanterns hang above. take me to Matsunaga, food presented and made with love. --

We came here for lunch because of the 4.5 star reviews. What a gem! Every dish was deliciously prepared, even the small side dishes that came with each meal. We had kakuni and buta nabe. Both were delicious and beautifully presented. Super great service, friendly staff. Clean restaurant, high ceiling for an open feeling to the room. Will definitely return!

Definitely a great thing to come out of the fire that destroyed the previous buildings at this location. The strip mall is still adding businesses, but usually parking is fairly easy, turning in and out of it from Hwy 99 may have its challenges. I will warn you that although this food is delicious, it is pay by weight so do be aware of this when you go in. You get your own bowl and tongs to go thru the line and choice exactly what you want in your meal. So many noodle, veggie and tofu options, but also a huge area devoted to meat. I will also say to skip the cilantro as that can be added after in the free sauce area (this is such a great bonus on it's own). There any many meal options to choose from. My fav is the Tom Yum, but I have also had the Tomato and keep meaning to try the dry noodles. My partner often thinks he wants the spicy, but this is extra spicy so do order that cautiously. After filling your bowl you go to the counter where they weigh your food and enter in what style you want. Unlike other hot pot places, you do not cook this yourself, they cook it in the back and then call your number when it is ready to be grabbed and brought to your table. This can be a tremendous amount of food and it's messy, so don't wear your best clothes if you are a messy eater like me. They are happy to let you pack up your leftovers, which are delicious later and make me feel better about how much I am spending. We do sometimes worry that we will not be able to get a seat, but so far we have not had to wait to sit down. They do bring you orange slices and you can get soft serve for after your meal. The employees are always friendly.

Service is ok, typical of many dim sum restaurants I've frequented. My friend and I shared har gow, siu mai, shrimp cheung fun, chicken feet, and steamed taro dumplings, all of which are pretty basic and popular. The crystal wrapper-for the har gow, cheung fun, and taro dumpling-was very thick but also flimsy when holding onto the filling. The chicken feet were average, mainly lacking flavor. The taro dumplings were also extremely dense and chalky. The siu mai, on the other hand, was generously packed with succulent pork and shrimp, giving it a nice bounce along with firmness. I would have to say each dish/steamer is quite large, so we were very full. Our meal was ~$43 (including tax). The price is pretty standard for really good dim sum these days. But I was not impressed by the quality of the food.

We had to ask for water three separate times, including going up to the host stand because nobody checked on our table. When the water finally arrived, it had a strong musty taste that was unpleasant enough that none of us wanted to drink it. The service was equally disappointing. The staff seemed annoyed whenever my mother or aunt asked questions, and there were several instances where responses felt abrupt or dismissive. What made it more frustrating was seeing much friendlier interactions with surrounding tables. We never felt welcomed as guests. I understand automatic gratuity for larger parties, but the mandatory 20% gratuity felt difficult to justify given the level of service we received. Had tipping been left to our discretion, I would have left considerably less. The food also fell far below expectations, especially for the price point: * The walnut shrimp still had waste material visible in the tail. * The salt and pepper calamari was overwhelmingly salty, lacked pepper flavor, and came with burnt shallots. * The beef and broccoli was covered in a thick, gelatinous sauce with noticeable clumps of cornstarch. * Our party of six was given only two small bowls of rice to share. To make matters worse, I felt nauseous after the meal despite generally having a strong stomach. Overall, the combination of poor service, underwhelming food quality, and high prices made this a disappointing choice for what should have been a celebratory family meal.

We were there way longer than how much we spend time at typical BBQ place, but she didn't seem to mind, which was nice. We had the beef combo, cold noodles, and squid and veggie stir fry, and that was way more than we needed. We thought the combo comes with only two bowls of rice but they added another one, seeing that we are party of three. That was nice. Banchan was pretty good and I kind of wish I ate more of it before the meat arrived because I got full from other items quickly. Cold noodles were average. Of the four kinds of beef in the combo, I liked three of them except for one (I believe it was the NY steak) - one item was leaner/dryer than other NY steak I had elsewhere. The combo also came with individual sauces (two types - salt in oil and sweet-ish sauce). The sweet sauce was quite forgettable and so I kept dipping the meat in the salt in oil sauce, but I wish they offered other sauce...maybe like soy sauce based ones or just plain salt. The squid stir fry was spicy and I enjoyed it. The combo also came with tofu soup, which was also pretty good. Overall, there were minor stuff that didn't go with my preference, but I had a nice time at WuJu!
