Get the jjusami! So good! We were two and unable to finish this dish- in fact I had leftover that's more than enough for one extra meal. We came hungry so it's easily another meal for two. I love that the sauce had the right amount of salt and sugar and not overly sweet. My experience with Korean food had always been on the sweeter side so this dish was perfect for someone who doesn't prefer overly sweet food. The amount of meat and octopus were also super generous. We came on a Friday evening around 6:30 and the wait was quick. I saw that most tables had more than 4 people and it makes sense as the sharing portion was huge. Service was also really good. Oh man, top notch customer service. The staff were obviously trained extremely well with a customer forward culture. They all were super efficient but very warm. (Which I'm sorry to say is rare in Korean restaurants!). Now onto the food! They have the best kimchi soondooboo soup! The kalbi and pork belly were excellent. The side dishes were high quality and instantly filled. Our seafood pancake was so yummy and not too doughy like some other places. My mother in law has two things she always wishes for and Korean restaurants never have this - 1) hot tea without having to ask for it and 2) purple rice!! She got both here!! If there is one minor thing we have as a suggestion. The pork belly was a bit thick. I could see why as you don't want too thin of a slice. I wish there was a bit of extra char on it but that's personal preference. Pro tip: go right at opening! The places fills up very quickly. One of my favorite Korean restaurants. For me, a Korean restaurant is only as good as their banchan and this place never misses. Each entree is served w/ purple rice, barely tea, and of course (unlimited) banchan. Their kimchi is a little more spicy and pungent than what other restaurants serve, but that is exactly how it should be. Yukgaejang - A hearty and nourishing soup. Plenty of broth, beef, and leafy vegetables to even take home afterwards (you can see with the depth of the bowl). LA Kalbi & Pork Belly - Generous portions for the price. LA Kalbi was the favorite for the night, but pork bely was also just as good. Served on a hot platter it was nice that the meats remained warm even towards the end of meal. Tteok-Bokki - So so much. Wish there was more cheese added, but that is only because I have a low spice tolerance lol. We had plenty to take home afterwards so it's still a win. We used the kiosk to put our name on the waiting list. We waited about 30 minutes until we were sat. Once at the table the service was very quick. You order on a tablet and they bring it out to you as it's ready. Paid at the very end of the meal. We ordered the chicken wings, both original and spicy. We also got the Tteok-Bokki for an appetizer as well. For the entree we all split one of the big plates, the Kalbi Jjim. Everything we ate was delicious. It was my first time trying Tteok-Bokki and now I'm a big fan. Once you ger seated, you order your food through an ipad. Simple and easy. Price will be a little more expensive but great portion size to share with friends and family. The tteokbokki was huge! Honestly one of the biggest tteokbokki appetizers I've ever been served. Definitely go for the version with cheese. It usually comes with glass noodles sitting at the bottom, which adds a really nice texture and makes the dish feel even more satisfying. Highly recommend this dish if you love tteokbokki with a twist! The spicy pork bulgogi here is absolutely fantastic. The meat is tender, perfectly marinated, and has just the right balance of heat and sweetness. Each bite has a rich depth of flavor, and the portion size is generous. Paired with purple rice and six side dishes. The Korean grilled mackerel was decent, and it was a good portion size and the fish was cooked well, with a nice crispy skin. I came here with my family on a pretty busy weekend evening but surprisingly got seated very quickly. There were cups of tea upon seating. There's minimal service - you order on a tablet that's mounted at the table. There is no info about if the dish comes with rice or not. You have to flag down the server for more refills on the bonchon if you want refills. Tea was refilled only once during the whole dinner service. I got the seafood pancake, beef bulgogi, grilled mackerel, and LA galbi. This was plenty of food for four of us. The mackerel was a big fish and had a crispy but moist interior, the bulgogi was a big portion and marinated very well, and the seafood pancake was crispy and came with a dipping sauce. The star of the show was LA Galbi, which was SO tender and marinated so well. This is probably the best LA Galbi I've had so far in Washington. However, the LA Galbi took forever to come out to the table. We kept asking the server if it was coming as we saw other tables getting their orders and we were making a good dent into our other dishes. They kept reassuring us that it was coming. We had finally finished eating all of our other food and were purely waiting for the LA Galbi. The server asked us if we were done with the meal and we told them, again, that we were waiting for the Galbi. They finally checked with the kitchen and told us they had missed our order but can give it to us in 10 mins. Fine, we waited and got refills on bonchon. It finally came out shortly after. When the check came, the server didn't offer us any sort of compensation despite the hiccup. It's one thing if we hadn't said anything about it until the end, but we were repeatedly asking them where our dish was and they were blindly telling us it was coming. Really loved it here! Recently it feels like Kalbi is too sweet and not traditional enough, but not here. The ginger and garlic truly shine through on the Kalbi! I got to revisit Modoo this past weekend and I was reminded just how good the food was here. It is definitely the best Korean restaurant in the area. The place is always packed with people for a reason and I love that it feels like a neighborhood gem. They have an electronic ordering system for each table, so you can just place your order right when you sit down. I got to try the Jjusami with cheese fried rice, mixed soondubu, galbitang, and seafood pancake which was plenty of food to feed 4. The jjusami was so flavorful and pairs perfectly with rice. It's $50, but is definitely meant to be shared between at least 3 people. Their seafood pancake is so perfectly crispy. I'd definitely get it everytime I come back. They also give out free barely tea, and the service is attentive enough to refill it throughout the meal. This is one of my go to spots when I am craving Korean food. The service is always top-notch. The ambience is not as bright but has a bunch of tables and it's very spacious. They recently added a tablet to each table so that the customers can place their own orders through the app. The app, itself is a bit confusing if you have never used it before at Modoo. Once you placed your order through the app, a waiter will come and bring the Banchans and drinks, etc. I love the banchans that they provide here. It all tastes fresh and made in house. We ordered appetizers to start. We ordered the seafood pancake, vegetable pancake, and one order of fried dumplings. All the appetizers came out hot and crispy. Soft Tofu Stew with Seafood, $17 - 4 Stars Soft pillowy tofu and plenty of seafood are delivered simmering, bubbling in broth. My odd complaint - there wasn't that much tofu in this bowl. With so much broth and plenty of other food ordered, I took most of this home and made two more meals by adding soft tofu. Still a winner. Banchan, $0, refillable - 5 Stars For the true Korean food eaters, banchan makes or breaks a meal. Side dishes are the unspoken queen of the meal offering varying flavors to complement the hot bubbling soups or sizzling meats. They offer six varieties - spinach, radish, potato salad, kimchi, fish cakes, and acorn jelly (a rare offering in restaurants but common in households). They were all well prepared and delicious. We were craving Korean spicy squid and found this place on Yelp, only to realize when we arrived that they served octopus instead. We ordered the pork belly and octopus stew with cheese, along with a beef tofu soup on the side. The flavors were good overall, but the execution didn't quite work for us. The beef in the tofu soup tasted like the thin frozen slices commonly sold at Asian grocery stores, with a noticeable frozen-meat flavor rather than the taste of fresh beef. The biggest issue was the octopus--it was extremely chewy, to the point where each piece took a long time to eat, and we ended up leaving most of it on the plate after trying one piece each. The pork belly was cut into large chunks and could have benefited from being sliced smaller and cooked a bit crispier. Service was friendly and the food arrived promptly, but despite enjoying the seasoning and overall flavor profile, the textures just weren't our preference. Was this delicious? Absolutely. Was it pricey? Also yes. Speed and service? Great. We ordered the Kalbi jjim which was $75, and added on the cheese & rice (+$6) as well. It was accompanied by a variety of side dishes. The quality of the food was amazing. The kalbi meat fell off the bone. The sauce was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy, loaded with a number of veggies like sweet potato, squash, mushrooms, and some ddeokboki. For the price, I'll admit I assumed the portion size would be double. But the quality is undisputed. After finishing the meat and veggies, they use the sauce to stir in the rice and top it with cheese. The cheese + rice was 100% worth the add on. My only (small) gripe is that I wish the side dishes were delivered before the main dish so we could enjoy them while we waited. We arrived on Friday night around 7:30pm. Our table was ready by around 8pm with 2 steaming cups of corn silk tea and a sippy cup of water for our baby. We ordered on the tablet ordering system on the table, and food arrived at 8:20pm. The staff was extremely efficient and quick to respond when we called them via tablet. When I asked why the Kalbi jjim was so expensive, they shared that the dish uses an expensive cut of meat and is originally a "fancy" dish in Korea. They only have tables for 4, so it isn't any faster of a wait even if you have a small party. We ordered the 6 piece chicken wings, japchae & beef bulgogi. Banchan came with everything of course. Banchan was on the simple side, nothing really stood out. But the japchae was amazing and tasted so fresh. The wings could have been more crispier, but flavor was amazing! Slighty spicy and sweet. The bulgogi was a decent amount with jalapenos! The sauce in the galbijim is really good, a bit pricy but I really like this place. I would love to give a detailed analysis of the seolleongtang but unfortunately I date a terr orrist who turned our soup black with pepper. read more

I've been wanting to try this place since FOREVER and finally got the chance to do so on a Saturday for lunch. When we arrived, we were 7th on the waitlist and ultimately ended up waiting around 30 minutes or so before getting seated at our table. Keep in mind they close the waitlist early to make sure they can close for lunch in time. We ordered the jjusami (pork belly and octopus), fried chicken (spicy and original), tteokkbokki with ramen, and bossam to split amongst 5 people. This ended up being so much food but we were able to take some leftovers home. All of it was absolutely fantastic and delicious - my favorite dish was definitely the jjusami as the sauce was so savory sweet and the pork was so yummy. There were also plenty of veggies in it too! The bossam was my next favorite, as the pork was so tender and juicy and the cabbage wrap was fantastic with all the additions. The tteokkbokki was exactly as expected, and the chicken was just decent too. I liked the spicy one, but not the original as much. I'd definitely recommend the jjusami and bossam if you come here! The banchan were all also really good. Be prepared for a wait, but the food is so delicious! read more

I've been coming here several times already. Went on a Friday around 5, and it was easy to get a table for two. I love their Jjusami and soft tofu stew. Never goes wrong with those, both are so tasty! The side dishes are also great. The service is great and very attentive. Kalbi Jim is okay. Tasty, but I wish it was softer as it's a bit hard to chew and cut with a spoon and fork. I prefer the version at Daeho. They've also nearly doubled the price from last year, but still a great place overall. read more
