I've missed Korean food so much, and Sam Oh Jung absolutely hit the spot. I ordered the soy marinated crab combo with soybean stew, tteokbokki, and spicy naengmyeon -- everything was delicious. Portions were just right, and all the side dishes were super tasty too. The service was really great. The staff was kind, helpful, and happy to accommodate us even though we had a lot of requests, which I really appreciated. The place feels like a good old-fashioned family restaurant with decent spacing, comfortable vibes, and a welcoming atmosphere. This meal honestly brought me so much joy -- can't wait to come back.

Hot stone bibimbap and stir fry bulgogi

Food overall was pretty good. It was kind of on the sweet side so I liked it. Banchan was just ok and it came out with the food rather than before. Service was good. Plenty of seating on a Thursday night. Japchae: 5/5 I really liked this the noodles were bouncy and chewy. Good size for an appetizer Seafood pancake: 4/5 Good but needed the sauce. Could have been cooked a little longer for more crisp Hot stone bibimbap: 2/5 Super mid and not very good in my opinion. Not enough meat Stir fry bulgogi: 5/5 This was great! Had no sauce which was preferred and it had this tasty grilled flavor Seafood hotpot: My parents wanted it not spicy so the broth was super fishy which I didn't like. I don't like seafood though so I can't really rate it

This was q BACK UP PLAN, the place we wanted to go to as closed until 4pm, and we were hungry and didn't want to wait. Searched Yelp for something close by where OPEN and gave them a try. Came with some Korean friends and we ordered 5 dishes. Everything was wonderful! Great flavor profiles in each dish. Server was friendly and attentive. My only complaint would be the PORTION SIZE. Wish they were more generous with their portion size. Still like the place that was closed better but this is a solid fallback option and I think had a nice meal!

Tl;dr restaurant is cozy, with great food and great service. The flavors are consistent and their banchan (sides) are a huge highlight. Food: Everything my wife and I have had here has been good. The flavors are nice and consistent, and the food is well portioned. I will say, the variety of ban chan they have is phenomenal and are definitely key to a well rounded meal. Ambiance: it's a cute restaurant, with maybe 10 -15 tables. Doesn't have all the frills and thrills, but is definitely clean and cozy. Service: the staff is certainly friendly and accommodating. I've been here maybe 5-6 times and they've always been very kind. Definitely the kind of people I love supporting.

Spicy Pork and tofu soup

Always a fan of this place. Love the banchan. Staff is great and so nice, always offering refills. The tofu soup is cozy and a classic. Tried the spicy pork for the first time and it was good. Pretty filling and decent portion size. Wish pork was sliced a bit smaller, but other than that it hit the spot!

Incredibly friendly service, delicious main dishes and a nice variety of banchan! I love eating at Sam Oh Jung when I'm in the area. The menu is more diverse than most Korean restaurants in the greater Seattle area and they do everything well!

Great and authentic Korean food to try! We had their Tteobokki with ramen, Marinated Raw Crab, Soy Bean Soup, and their Spicy Cold Noodles. Everything was good! The Tteobokki was well made. The soup was very flavorful and the rice cakes were cooked nicely. I just wish they provided more portioning for it. The spicy cold noodles were good as well. Extremely small amount of beef slice given though. And I only got half a hard boiled egg. The marinated raw crab were good, but a bit too salty for me. Side dishes were complimentary and were pretty good! Definitely one of the better side dishes provided compared to other Korean restaurants. The service was good. We first had a female server, who wasn't as friendly. But then we had a male server and he was attentive and very helpful. The food didn't take long to make! The ambiance is okay. There's a decent amount of seating. It's decently clean and organized.

Bulgogi Hot Pot / 불고기 전골

The cold noodle is my favorite. The broth is refreshing, noodle is chewy, and the portion is pretty big. The hot pot is good also, light and flavorful broth, pretty of meat and veggie. They offer a variate of banchan, which is a plus. It's a family friendly restaurant. I have a baby with me, and the service is very nice. They try to find the best spot for me to put my car seat, and they also come over to say hi to my baby.

Kalbi

My husband and Sis in law picked this place. We ordered family sharing style and we got to try a lot of their dishes! My favorite is always the Kalbi ribs! However, everything was very tasty! They have a pretty extensive menu. We had a large group so we called for service often. They have a button you push but the waitress seemed bothered by our constant requests. Food was good service was ok. Very busy when we went! Overall good experience!

Great gejang/soy marinated crabs. Drove all the way from Ballard just to have it. Fresh kimchi, great tofu stew. No complaints and will definitely be back to try more!

Fried Mackerel and Soybean Paste Stew Combo & Bulgogi and Spicy Tofu Stew Combo

Heart-warming Korean food~My family of four was extremely pleased and full after this meal. Seated quickly to a clean and homey booth, we ordered two combos -fried mackerel and soybean paste stew + bulgogi and spicy tofu stew-that came with the banchan of the day. The servers are very attentive, and the owner (I believe) checked on us and other customers. Every part of the meal was cooked with love, care, and skill! To our surprise, we loved every banchan. By the end of it, we cleared the entire spread.

Since moving to Seattle I haven't tried too many Korean restaurants, but I was really excited to check this spot out! Sam Oh Jung is located in Lynnwood, which is north of Seattle, about 20-30 minutes away. It's located inside of a small plaza so there was ample parking available! We went there for an early Saturday dinner and were seated right away. Inside they have a good number of tables and booths available. Our server was very kind and took our order right away, making sure we were taken care of throughout the entire meal. We ended up ordering the soon tofu soup with beef along with the cold buckwheat noodles (naengmyun). The soon tofu soup was so good, with the perfect amount of spice and salt, and it was so flavorful! Definitely satisfied my craving on a cold day. The naengmyun was also so good, I loved the broth, especially when you add vinegar to it! I also appreciated all of the banchan we received, with a good amount of variety. Overall, I'd definitely come back again whenever I'm craving Korean food! Their menu is so large that I'm excited to try their other dishes too!

Veggie Pancake - Bibimbap -

All I can say is yum! A friend recommended Sam Oh Jung while we were visiting the Seattle area and I'm glad she did! Absolutely delicious food! The four of us ordered a huge spread and we received it all quickly- good service. The veggie pancake was a real standout for me, just the right amount of crispiness. Our friends hadn't tried Korean food before and they loved it! If we're back in the area we'd be happy to go there again.

JangAn puts diners in the driver's seat, meaning that seasoning your soup is up to you and your own preferences. This might sound intimidating, but every table has a guide printed out, and the servers proactively offered to guide me as they brought out my roiling bowl. This method of seasoning complements the beauty of seolleongtang, which seems to deepen as you eat it. Warmth, seasoning, and time gradually coaxes more richness from the bowl, so take your time and enjoy the process. One special shout out for the banchan. You'll get both Kimchi and Kkakdugi (raddish) with your meal, and both can be refilled freely. I think you'll want to, because it was among the best I've ever had. They sell it to-go as well, and you can bet I took advantage. Overall 5/5

Each entree is served w/ purple rice, barely tea, and of course (unlimited) banchan. They have plenty of seating, but the place gets busy and noisy quickly. We arrived around 5PM on a Wednesday and there was no wait, but the restaurant began to be busy an hour later. There is compact parking in front of the restaurant, but more spots available to the side of the lot. We ordered: Soft Tofu Stew - I love the kimchi they serve. Their kimchi is a little more spicy and pungent than what other restaurants serve, but that is exactly how it should be. Yukgaejang - A hearty and nourishing soup. Plenty of broth, beef, and leafy vegetables to even take home afterwards (you can see with the depth of the bowl). LA Kalbi & Pork Belly - Generous portions for the price. LA Kalbi was the favorite for the night, but pork bely was also just as good. Served on a hot platter it was nice that the meats remained warm even towards the end of meal. Tteok-Bokki - So so much. Wish there was more cheese added, but that is only because I have a low spice tolerance lol. We had plenty to take home afterwards so it's still a win. Items are on the pricier side, but great value considering the quality and how much is offered. Their kimchi is my favorite and honestly nothing compares to it.

Maybe the chef can find a way to achieve just enough tenderness while still being crunchy, which would be perfect. Another thing, my bowl looks burned on the edges. Kudos to all staff! They can accommodate big groups, as they had 2 different large groups at the same time, but those took up a lot of tables because the restaurant isn't that spacious. The combos are a good option if you have people to share with and/or multiple people are hungry. The portions are enough for more than one meal, and the prices reflect that. We ordered boiled dumplings and the friends combo A with jajung, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk (M). The bowls of jajung and jjamppong are huge, but I didn't notice any meat in the jajung. The jajung was basically noodles, brown sauce, and onions. It was tasty, but disappointing that it looked and tasted vegetarian. The jjamppong was tasty because it was garlicky and slightly spicy. I was surprised to see the boiled dumplings were basically tiny wontons in clear broth. They need to update their menu description because I was expecting dry and regular sized dumplings. The tangsuyuk was very crispy, and I'm glad they served the goopy sauce separately.

While I haven't been to the original in Korea, the LA spots are my go-to favorites, so I'm comparing this new Lynnwood location to that experience. The interior here is great--open, inviting, and perfect for first-timers. The service was excellent, and like the LA locations, they handle the grilling for you (a premium touch you don't always find at local KBBQ spots). The menu and pricing are very similar to what you'd expect from the brand. I did notice a slight dip in food quality compared to LA. The meat there tends to be leaner, the seasoning is a bit more refined, and they are much more proactive about swapping out the grill plate between different cuts of meat. That said, chain standards are usually highest in LA, so that's a tough comparison. Overall, it's still a fantastic experience. If you're a first-timer or comparing it to other options in the Lynnwood area, I definitely recommend giving Baekjeong a try!

After ordering a beer/soju tower, our server asked for our IDs, which is completely understandable. However, she proceeded to examine them for an uncomfortably long time while repeatedly looking back and forth between my face, my ID, and my sister. She then told me I "don't really look like" my ID photo because my hair is different and even commented that my ID looked more like my sister than me. We're twins! At one point she had both of our IDs side-by-side comparing them while continuing to question things. I finally told her that while I understand validating IDs, the interaction was making me feel like the legitimacy of my ID was being questioned. What made it even more awkward was her repeatedly commenting that the tower we ordered was "a lot of beer," which honestly felt judgmental and unnecessary. We are clearly adults, presented valid IDs, and were simply ordering something from the menu. That said, the actual food was delicious. The BBQ combo we ordered was excellent, the sides were plentiful, and overall the meal itself was really enjoyable. It also seemed like the server realized the interaction had gone poorly because she later brought us complimentary soup and dessert, which we did appreciate. We still tipped well because we understand serving isn't easy and wanted to be fair. But honestly, the initial interaction left such an uncomfortable impression that if I returned and saw the same server again, I'd probably immediately feel uneasy. There's absolutely a professional way to verify IDs without making customers feel scrutinized or subtly accused of fraud.
