I genuinely can't put into words how great this place is. I'm usually the type to stick to the same order every time, but when they recommended their specialty -- Feijoada Spicy Special -- I decided to take a chance (with a little hesitation, to be honest). Even after a 40+ minute drive home, the moment I took my first bite... it completely blew me away. Every ingredient worked perfectly together, yet still stood strong on its own. The balance of flavors, the depth, the execution -- all of it was exceptional. Between that dish and the level of service, this is easily one of the most elevated teriyaki spots in Washington that more people need to experience. I was referred here by my husband. When you walk in the walkway is cute full of plants. The space inside is also spacious lots of seating. We ordered 3 items, the spicy chicken, house chicken, and wings. My daughter enjoyed the wings and scarfed it down and I had the house chicken. I had the food with their cilantro sauce which was delicious but a lil spicy. The portions are big and I think worth the price you pay for. After eating we had enough to have seconds for later. This is the only food spot that I have an account with and I think that alone explains it. Food & drink: (5/5) This is one of my fav casual spots to eat ever! An extra bonus is that it's super close by to me which I appreciate. I usually rotate between the spicy chicken bowl which is actually decently spicy, and the grilled shrimp bowl which is cooked and seasoned to perfection literally every single time. Not to mention I LOVE their pico and sauce. I'm not sure of everything that goes into them but they are genuinely so addicting. Even their rice is cooked really well- fluffy, hot, almost buttery? I've never had their poke before but my partner and friends tend to get it so I'm sure it's good as well. We tried their chicken wings for the first time during our most recent visit and I'm truly upset that I didn't order this sooner. The outside is crispy yet light, and the inside is SO juicy. Stopped here today for the first time after seeing the many 5 star reviews. I quickly saw those reviews were legit. This is my favorite new place I've been to this year. Smiles on all staff faces and a warm welcome when we entered. It's great to feel happy when you first enter a restaurant It was busy, but our was taken quickly, and our food arrived quickly also. We both got the crispy chicken. It was cooked fresh, juicy, and very good. The pico with the rice was very good also. First time I've heard of this. This is going to be a new food trend for me. We also got a side of kimchi for $4. It was very good as well, and enough for 2 people. At the end of our meal, our server asked if this was our first time in, and if we enjoyed our meal. Seemed like she was sincere in caring about our response. I said a big YES and YES to both questions. I also loved the DJ's on TV playing great music. It created a great vibe. Second time here. Teriyaki with little magic, food is fresh made and delicious. Little touches like option to add rice cakes to your meat, enjoyed the mix of South American and Japanese flavors, very unique. In 2024, Ta Joia achieved #28 in Yelp's Top 100 Restaurants in the US, and I've had it bookmarked ever since! Here, you'll find a unique fusion of Korean, Japanese and Brazilian cuisines, specifically "teriyaki with a twist". Although they offer various proteins like pork, beef and shrimp, their chicken is the definite frontrunner, so that's exactly what I came here for! However, I also couldn't leave without trying their Feijoada, which is the national dish of Brazil. All this being said, the Feijoada Bowl was my perfect pick. When we walked up to the counter, one of the employees kindly welcomed us and entered our order. He also pointed out that we could help ourselves to the dispensers of complimentary water and hot tea. The tea had a subtle toasted flavor which was soothing on a chilly day. Around 12:45P, there were two tables left, so we felt lucky to grab a seat. After about 10 minutes, another employee brought out our plates which were all nicely presented. Based on this, I could tell how much care the kitchen poured into the food even before taking my first bite! + FEIJOADA BOWL ($15 + $4.50 for spicy chicken): If you order this as-is, it comes with rice, Feijoada (black bean stew), their pico slaw, fried egg and cilantro sauce. My add-on of spicy chicken was my favorite part of this meal! The tender thigh meat came perfectly grilled (see those char marks!) and marinated in their "triple spice chili sauce" that had a noticeable medium heat. Each piece was juicy and succulent, perfect with the creamy, tangy cilantro sauce that helped quell the spice. The sauce is truly addicting and I savored every last drop. The Feijoada made up half the plate - black beans mixed with slices of sausage, bacon and pork. It wasn't very bold in flavor, but made the meal extra hearty. As a contrast to the rich stew, their pico (crunchy cabbage & ripe tomato in a refreshing dressing) really brightened up the plate. Although it was more acidic than I would have preferred, it complemented every bite. + HOUSE CHICKEN BOWL ($16): This came with at least double the chicken than what I got as an add-on to my Feijoada Bowl, in addition to rice and (our choice of) pico. Note that this doesn't automatically include the cilantro sauce, but the employee kindly gave us a small cup of it at no extra charge when I asked. Since I loved the chicken so much, I'd probably get this bowl next time. As we cleared our table, two of the employees asked how everything was and genuinely thanked us for coming in. I struggle with this review because I really really want to love TaJoia, especially give how wonderful the girl behind the counter was and how much care the staff seem to put into the food and customer engagement. I had the recommended crispy chicken, which is like a chicken katsu, with their house cilantro sauce and pico (onion, cabbage, tomatoes). The good thing is that the chicken was really crispy, and the bad is that it smelled fishy - like a dirty rag (?) It tastes totally ok - the chicken was unseasoned (?) so it's not hiding anything rotten. May be the katsu was fried using the same oil as shrimp? I like the twist on old favorites but I think overall it's just doesn't fit my taste profile... the sauce and the pico are heavily on the vinegar, making it sour and tangy... which is really not my style. I'm sad I didn't love the food, but I think others should give it a try. read more

Delicious! I ordered a special: the spicy chicken teriyaki paired with Brazilian feijoada and white rice, topped with a fried egg. Everything was flavored so nicely, I kept wanting to eat more than I could. I don't think I have ever said this about a restaurant, but even their white rice had this home-cooking taste that was irresistible. The spicy chicken is enrobed in a chili-based marinade that was so good, I didn't add a drop of teriyaki. In retrospect, I missed tasting a key element for this review! I also ordered the vegetable spring rolls and the sweet sesame rice balls--fried fare done right. I ordered takeout through their online interface, which I found straightforward. More importantly, my food, handed to me by cheery staff, was ready on time and piping hot. This spot is located in a sizable strip mall, and their space seems open and inviting for dine-in. Wow, this is the best teriyaki we've had so far! We've been trying a few teriyaki places after moving to Seattle 2 years ago, and this one is by far the best! We got the spicy chicken with salad + pico (I subbed in salad for rice which I appreciate that they let me do) and original teriyaki chicken with pico and rice. We also got a side of cucumber salad. Both chicken dishes were so flavorful with nice charred, juicy chicken. I personally loved the little kick in the spicy version. Salad and pico were very good and refreshing. I like to search Yelp before a trip to a new city so I can find some interesting to try. Time and time again when I search Bothell, this restaurant showed up. It is a fusion Korean and Brazilian restaurant. The proteins absolutely fascinate me as I'm a huge fan of teriyaki and Korean BBQ. I ordered the combo with the House teriyaki chicken and the Galbi short ribs. All I can say is WOW, the proteins were cooked perfectly and the marinade was delicious. Located in a small plaza, parking is never a problem here. Upon entering, there's a decent amount of seating but can definitely see it getting packed during lunch time as it did towards the end of our meal. The music is also very lively and upbeat. The staff were friendly and gave us an introduction of the different dishes they offered and were able to answer my questions regarding what different dishes were and how to order. I got the Crispy Chicken with Pico De Gallo and an aioli sauce and a moment of regret hit me as soon as I took my first bite. The crispy chicken had a nice crunch but was met with juicy chicken underneath and complimented by the tasty aioli. I wanted to like this place because so many people hyped it up but unfortunately, I had a very mediocre experience. I got the combo spicy chicken and crispy chicken with pico and cilantro sauce ($2.50 surcharge for combo) which came out to be almost $20 after tax, a price point that's fairly high for a fast casual restaurant so I expected the food quality to be insanely good if it's backed by stellar reviews. Food took a while to get - about 20 minutes, even though I arrived before the lunch rush, so definitely order ahead if you are short on time. The spicy chicken is quite tender and flavorful, but if I'm paying top dollar, I'm expecting more edible meat. Chicken is quite burnt in most of the pieces and it is hard work to try to enjoy the true flavors of the spicy chicken doing so. Crispy chicken is quite good but it doesn't stand out compared to other places. Cilantro sauce is a good pairing with any meat honestly, so that is good. I liked the pico but I think serving it in a separate container would be even better so to distinguish among different flavor profiles. Portions are decent, could be a bit larger (perhaps perception, but it felt like the food portions are fairly skimped from prior reviews' pictures). I am not a big eater by any means but didn't feel full at the end. I've seen reviews where the service is friendly and they go above and beyond if it's their first time. I've been wanting to try this place for a while because of its high ratings and it did not disappoint. We arrived around 45 minutes before close planning on getting take out which worked as they informed us they were only doing take out at that point. The person at the register was very kind and told us the spicy chicken was the most popular item and so we ordered one of those as well as a bulgogi beef. She did not lead us astray as the spicy chicken was so good! The bulgogi was solid but really it was all about the spicy chicken as it had so much flavor and a good level of spice. The cilantro sauce is also a must as it just elevated everything. They give you the option of pico or a teriyaki style salad and I thought I'd love the pico but honestly I preferred the salad. The menu isn't too large but I would definitely try the other options here as everything looks good and one I am particularly excited for would be the feijoada but the spicy chicken is definitely a must and worth returning for on its own. read more

It's a small, family operated business, and with counter service. For those not familiar with counter service, make your orders at the counter and they'll bring the food to your table, it's a very Asian concept. I generally order the Kalbi/house combo with pico and add the cilantro sauce! That cilantro sauce just takes the dish over the top!!! I swear it's like crack!!! The food is consistently good and service is decent. The reviews for this place are what brought me here, the food (and that cilantro sauce) keeps bringing me back!!! Interesting korean/latin fusion restaurant in the bothell area. Plenty of parking spots available in the lot. Inside was spacious and open. The line can get pretty long during the busy hours but it moves pretty fast. Their menu was interesting. Korean inspired teriyaki style, but more smokey/less sauce on the meat which i liked. They also offer poke/korean poke bibimbap style. I think they use frozen fish though which i think how they can keep the price low. I ordered spicy pork, spicy chicken, and poke. My friend took our group to this place while visiting Seattle and this is hands down some of the best food I've had in a while. Every dish was flavorful, and the cilantro sauce was insane! The shrimp was so succulent, the fried rice was addicting, the spicy pork was tender, the chicken wings were fried to perfection yet still juicy, and the spicy pork with rice cakes had such a deep cumin flavor. The vibes of this place is so cozy and welcoming, and the staff were nice and accommodating. One of the workers, Christine, was so kind and kept checking up on us to make sure everything was going well. The mom/owner of the restaurant was also so sweet, coming out to talk to us and gave us and everyone else dining in some free Haagen Daaz ice cream. After having a disappointing feijoada a couple of weeks ago in Montana, I was looking for more Brazilian food near Seattle and Ta Joia popped up. Seattle/Korean/Brazilian fusion? And on a bunch of top food lists in both Yelp and Eater? Say no more, we're heading over immediately! We arrived at Ta Joia on a brisk Monday evening for dinner. The restaurant wasn't too busy at the time - we did spy a couple of parties eating inside and waiting for takeout. The restaurant is counter service and they have a self serve water and tea station, with fresh barley tea given the Korean roots. We ordered two dishes for this visit: Feijoada Bowl + House Teriyaki ($18.50) - The feijoada consists of mostly black beans and is mixed with a decent amount of meat, including pieces of thick cut bacon, sausage, and tender pork, all stewed together. The taste is mild and salty but very pleasant. The feijoada is mostly drained, so there's no soup, just a small amount of moisture to cover the rice underneath. The rice is perfectly cooked, fluffy, with just a bit of bite with each grain easily able to separate. There's a side of pico included, which is more like a fresh and zingy cabbage salad. When I say zingy, I mean super acidic with a vinegary tang that almost makes me pucker. Very helpful as a palate cleaner to cut through all of the meat. Resting on top of the feijoada is a sunny side up egg cooked in a mold with the yolk soft and runny. As the main meat, I went with the house teriyaki for an extra $4 to the base $14.50. The chicken here is smoky and very tender with a great charred taste and smell. I'm still an amateur at recognizing a good teriyaki, but I thought this one was very good. Most other places just have a teriyaki sauce to douse on top, but Ta Joia also provides a cilantro sauce that's thick, tangy, fresh, and a little spicy. The perfect accompaniment. There's always the giant bottle of teriyaki sauce provided at each table for people who want a more classic option. (5/5) Crispy Chicken ($16) - This dish comes with a choice of pico or salad. We went with the salad, which is just the normal sweet and tangy dressed salad that typically accompanies Seattle-style teriyaki. The salad is simple and not overly dressed which is good. The chicken katsu here is pounded really flat in some areas and possibly has more breading than meat. But the breading is good and adds a nice crisp, remaining crispy even in the portions that touch the rice and/or the bottom of the bowl. The chicken is tender with no fatty or gristly bits. It's a good chicken katsu overall. Again, the dish comes with Ta Joai's perfectly cooked rice. It also comes with a choice of sauce - since this was our first visit and we didn't know which to get, we got both. One is the same cilantro sauce as above, the other is the typical tangy, mildly sweet, and savory tonkatsu sauce. (5/5) I was very impressed with the food served at Ta Joia. It's always nice seeing a place that cooks inventive fusion cuisine. I will be back for more in the future! read more

Seattle teriyaki is basically its own food group, and I thought I knew the syllabus. Tá Jóia just handed me the final exam and graded it "A+" with extra sauce. I ordered the combo with House Chicken (spicy) and I'm not exaggerating when I say it might be the best meal I've paid for in the last year. The char, the flavor, the portion... it's the kind of plate that makes you stop talking mid-sentence and just nod at your own fork. But the sleeper MVP: the white rice + pico + that cilantro dressing. Mix it all together and it turns into this bright, creamy, salty-fresh magic that shouldn't work... except it absolutely does.
