Modoo Hansang was my favorite meal on my most recent trip to the Seattle area. Our party of five stopped by mid-day on a Saturday and were seated right away, we may have snagged one of the last larger tables for lunch. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share: Soondobu (soft tofu stew), Kalbitang, L.A. Kalbi, Seafood Pancake, Grilled Mackerel, the meal came with purple rice and an assortment of banchan. Every dish was made to order and delicious - our favorite dishes were the Kalbitang and Grilled Mackerel. Service was great, restaurant was nicely decorated, and spacious which was perfect for our little family. The owner of the restaurant stopped by at the end to check in with us and she was so sweet. If we are ever in the Bothell area in the future we will definitely stop by again! read more

They sat us at a relatively private area since we are here with a toddler that requires a high chair. We ordered the lunch special Kalbitang ($22.99), Bossam set ($23.99), and the spicy chive pancake ($9.99). They provided kids utensil and a plate, which is super helpful even though we didn't ask for it. Our food came after 10-15 min of wait, and there were 10 side dishes (all of them are delicious btw). We also got a side salad and fish cake soup, which might be a lunch special thing? I'm not sure. I'm not a big fan of the salad dressing, but it's complimentary so no complaints there. Everything we ordered was delicious. There were tons of chives in the pancake, and the meat was tender in kalbitang. My toddler also ate a lot of pork, beef, rice, eggs (in kalbitang), and broccoli. The only downside is that there is only one waiter taking care of orders/bills, so it could be a bit slow. However, everyone was friendly to my toddler and a waitress came to check on us in the middle of our meal too. She also smiled at my toddler as well. The only downside is that we asked for tea, but we got water instead. I had to ask again, but that mistake is really minor. I prefer this location over the Lynwood one as that one is always way too busy and super noisy. It's quieter here and the ambiance is better. Overall, we had a good time dining here with our toddler. They are very generous with the portions! I ordered the tofu stone bibimbap and enjoyed all the fresh flavors. The tofu was pre fried and the sizzling stone gave the rice a nice crispy crunch. Korean food is pretty limited in Washington compared to the Bay Area, so when you have a Korean food craving, this is one of the places to go! The first time I came to Modoo Hansang, I found a long hair in my soup, then a long hair in my rice. I left quickly without finishing much of anything, but the situation was taken care of by the manager. I understand this could just be a bad day, a fluke of sorts... so about 7 months later, I came back to give it another shot. They have a decently extensive menu, and they have a lunch set that is half-sized portions. I got the soondooboo and the galbi lunch set, and it was a good amount of food for one. The side dishes aren't really your traditional side dishes, and they're presented very beautifully. It makes you feel like you're fine dining. The flavor seemed a bit more fusion than traditional. They also give apps like california rolls, salad, and soup. (My gripe is that they should have used a miso dressing instead of an Italian dressing that tastes like it came from a bottle for the salad.) Overall, you order your entree, and you get what feels like a 5 course meal. Went at 1:00 PM on a Saturday, but it wasn't busy at all. The missus and I arrived on a non-descript Sunday just after 12:30pm without a reservation - it wasn't too busy inside and we were seated quickly, though the parking lot was packed. I can imagine a line out the door during peak hours. I ordered the mushroom soft tofu stew (sundubu-jjigae) + pork bulgogi combo (medium spicy), and my wife ordered the Galbitang. The food arrived 10-15 minutes after ordering, despite three more tables arriving and placing orders around the same time - I noticed they got their food within the same window. This place is efficient. The sundubu-jjigae arrived in a stone pot, broth running surprisingly clear and light for how substantial it tasted. The pork bulgogi came out still sizzling on a cast iron skillet over a wooden board - the kind of presentation that makes the table next to you immediately regret their order. Portion-wise, the pork felt slightly light for a $28 combo relative to everything else on the table. The banchan deserves its own mention: eight-ish dishes - kimchi, bean sprouts, gyeran mari (beautifully golden rolled egg), seasoned greens, braised tofu, pickled daikon, and a couple more I'm still trying to identify. None of it felt like filler - the kind of sides you keep reaching for absentmindedly mid-conversation until they're gone. The rice was a multigrain mix (purple-black grains) rather than plain white, a small detail that signals care for the fundamentals. My wife's galbitang arrived looking like a commitment - massive short rib bones in a rich, clean broth that meant business before you'd even picked up a spoon. She ended up so full we packed the rice and half the dish to go. When your takeout bag solves dinner that evening, that's a PORTION SIZE WIN. One last detail worth calling out: they proactively offered me an apron since I was eating spicy food in a white polo. Modoo Hansang is the best! I came here with a group of 4 an hour before closing and I was pleasantly surprised by how many banchan or appetizers they offered before our main dishes. My group ordered the yukgaejang, tteokbokki, rice cake soup, and vegetable pancake. Before we got them we were served salad, sushi, and fish cake soup. After that our main dishes came but also with many more side dishes. Modoo Hansang did not want to leave us hungry.The vegetable pancake was so crispy and not oily at all. I love when food is crispy! They go hard with the banchan here. We ordered two apps and one main and got so many sides. The service was pretty attentive for most of the meal. It wasn't too busy so the ambiance was pretty relaxed and there was some music on and a k drama playing on the tv. Overall the food was pretty good! I'd order the bibimbap again. My husband and I came on a weekend afternoon and the service was welcoming and friendly. We brought our 6 month old with us and they were so nice to him! He was all smiles! This is one of those spots where I always drive by and want to go, and I am so glad I finally made a date of it! The vibes in here are cool. Lovely view of the greenery in Bothell and lovely art. Loved the twinkly lights as well. They kicked us off with a salad and a garlic butter seafood app, both of which were lovely. We got the beef ribs, which had such a cool presentation. This is a fairly new business in a really nice newish business park in Bothell, great variety on the menu and good size portions. The only complaint I have is the floor in the entire restaurant is sticky! Now this could be from the really tasty honey garlic chicken wings...possibly but I could still hear a sticky step all the way to our table as well as when I went to the bathroom. The interior is modern & sleek...so I feel like they just need to have cleaner floors! Aside from this complaint, the food was really good. The combos have smaller size portions of meat but still shareable, especially considering you get a choice of BiBimBap or tofu soup. If you choose to not order the combos, the portions are very well sized for family style service. We had a combination of both sizes on our table. We had a table of 4 for a late lunch so we were really hungry. We ordered the 12 piece honey, garlic chicken wings, very crispy with a flavorful honey, garlic sauce. The chicken was well cooked too so none of the meat by the bone was undercooked...thank you for cooking the chicken thoroughly. Nice variety of bonchan brought to the table, good mix of popular dishes mixed with more authentic not as common ones. I ordered the short rib soup and it was a huge portion great for sharing. I was even able to take some home with one big short rib bone left. My husband ordered the tofu soup combo with beef and beef bulgogi as his grilled meat selection. I'm not sure how this place got the high ratings. As a Korean-food lover, I've been to many Korean restaurants, and this was probably the worst out of all (sorry!). I do have to first compliment on their service though. The server was great, very friendly, and got some crayons and coloring sheets for our kids. That's why it has a three-star and not a two. First of all, the side dishes were terrible. Side dishes are so important, and you can tell how good a Korean restaurant is for the most part just from the side dishes. Their kimchi and bean sprouts were just alright, the broccoli didn't have much flavor, the pickled radish didn't taste good, and the leaf vegetable (no idea what it was) was disgusting!! This place didn't have the good, classic side dishes like fish cake and braised potatoes. It's fine for it to be unique and have side dishes different from other Korean restaurants, but they need to at least taste good. I always get seconds for a few of the really yummy side dishes, but our entire table did not get any refills there. We didn't even finish most of them because they just didn't taste good. So disappointing. Now, for the main dishes, we ordered the Honey Garlic Chicken Wings, roasted pork belly with veggies, and the LA Kalbi. Everything was average, portions were small, but SO expensive. We weren't even full afterwards. Such a waste of money! We did not enjoy our experience there. Was surprised to see a Korean spot up in Bothell. Came for dinner and was seated after a while. The servers were a bit busy so it took a while for our order to get placed. We ordered the braised beef (not spicy), also ordered the grilled pork kalbi, miso soup, honey garlic chicken. The braised beef was super tender and delicious. I also liked the chicken but my fried also thought it was too salty. But overall flavors was definitely good. We loved the selection of their banchan, they had honey mustard potato salad, also the beansprouts. They even gave us a free banchan a fried pork. I was lucky enough to go twice for lunch combo deals. Took my Mom on one of the visits who is very picky when it comes Korean food. She liked the taste and thought everything was just right amount of seasoning. She actually ate all her Kalbi! This is the most ban chan I've seen any Korean restaurant has given. It was nice to try their bossam pork in the ban chan mix. I don't typically order bossam at restaurants, but great way to entice customers. Loved all the little extra food that came with our meal from the salad, noodles in anchovy broth, and the Sikhye (sweet rice drink) end of our meal. I've had their bibim naengmyeon (spicynoodles), Kalbi, soondubu (soft tofu stew), and bibimbap and all was really tasty. The owner and staff are friendly and personable. New authentic Korean restaurant super close to UW Bothell. They have braised soy chicken (jjimddak) which is one of my all time favorite Korean foods. Add some glass noodle and cheese to it and it takes it to another level their rose tteokkbokki was surprisingly super good-it has bacon and sausage in it! Super soft and chewy rice cakes in both the tteokbokki and the jjimdak. The bossam was HUGEEE and came with three different sauces and lotsss of napa cabbage and lettuce to wrap the meat with We love gopchang and they have both the big pot and small pot of their gopchang stew. Delicious Korean food on Beardslee Boulevard! I shared their bibimbap and pork bulkogi combo with my wife who also ordered a side of their broiled flounder. Food came out sizzling hot with lots of flavor without being too salty. There are many pages on their menu so we plan on going back to trying more! A few cons: the banchan sides were a fresh and tasty, but seemed like they didn't give much. We went on a weekend for dinner and there was only one person working the entire dining area, so service was a little slow until someone else came to help her. I was craving good tteokbokki and Korean soup so we stopped by for lunch. We started with the grilled mackerel which was tender and seasoned perfectly. Got their tteokbokki with fishcake and cheese which had a couple mandu. Tasty not overly sweet gochujang sauce with lots of cheese, fish cake, tender rice cakes, and glass noodles (thin and wide ones). For our main dish we shared gopchang (intestine) hotpot. It came with cabbage, crown daisy, shitake mushrooms, and udon noodles. The broth was not very spicy or salty (I would have preferred a little more of both). It also came with heukmi bap (purple rice), theirs is a very tasty blend. Kimchi was not very fermented (I prefer more effervescence and funk). Modoo Hansang (which according to Google means Everyone [with] a table of food). had a small write up in Seattle Eater, mentioning it as one of the new restaurants in Seattle. They have been open for a little over a month now and are located near the UW Bothell campus and apartments. My family and I came here for dinner on a Sunday night. We made reservations for 4 people at 6pm, but we could've just walked in. There were people dining, but the restaurant was still only about half full (but I'm sure their business will pick up as more people learn about this place!). Modoo has all your classic Korean dishes and affordable prices (much cheaper than Daeho in Bellevue). We ordered the SEAFOOD PANCAKE (+$18) and the SPICY GALBI JJIM (+ a little over $60). Those two dishes alone were enough to feed my family of four- we were stuffed afterwards! The SEAFOOD PANCAKE was good, but wasn't as crispy as some other seafood pancakes I've had. It was a little cakey in the middle and almost a little undercooked. It had shrimp, squid, green onion, and red bell pepper (which I've never had in a seafood pancake before, but enjoyed)! Regardless, the pancake was gigantic and tasty- perfect for dipping in the sesame soy sauce they provide! The SPICY GALBI JJIM was wonderful and not overly spicy. I'd give it a 2 star for spiciness. They were very generous with the meat and the meat was fork tender. Our family enjoyed the variety of vegetables, especially the yellow radish marinated in the sauce. It comes with 2 bowls of purple rice, but I would recommend ordering 1 bowl per person to eat with the sauce! They have unlimited ban chan which included potato salad (their version was a small scoop of mashed potatoes with a drizzle of honey mustard on top), sesame choy sum, kimchi, kimchi cucumber, and fish cake. The variety was great. Lastly, their service was spectacular. Our waitress was very kind and attentive and came back to see how we were doing and refilled our ban chan several times. They also got us our food quickly and there were about 3 people who came to serve us and wipe down our table after. We also got complimentary matcha yokan (a Japanese agar dessert with red bean and crushed nuts on the side) which was the perfect ending to an otherwise savory meal. I want to give feedback on the Rice Cake Soup. The broth was okay, but the rice cake was too soft and lacked the chewy texture described on the menu and sticks to your teeth. Maybe use Tteok made with rice flour only. I also wanted to share a quick note on the non-traditional Korean banchan. The presentation is creative, but the portions and flavors felt limited. Offering a wider variety of more traditional Korean banchan might add more value and make the overall meal feel more complete. Updating my good review to a terrible review. We liked the food here so went with a group. They seated us and we ordered. Up to this point it was fine. I guess they were running behind or busy. Not sure what the deal was but the server came out and said, "That person in your party looks upset. But you have to understand you didn't make a reservation." For all she knew this person could have had a migraine or not feeling well. I was a little taken aback and confused. No one in our party mentioned anything at all but she seemed upset and was complaining to us. The ironic thing is I called to notify them that we are on our way and asked if they could accommodate us. If they could not, they should have said at that moment that we need a reservation for bigger groups and declined. When we were about to leave, the server noticed that there was a concern so she asked if something was wrong or bothering us. So I told her that yes, despite the fact that no one said anything, she was upset with us and complaining to us. She immediately got more worked up and told us we could post a terrible review and we are welcome to not come back. I wasn't even going to post anything but she just kept saying to us over and over to just write a bad review and don't come back. So here it is. You asked for it multiple times. I cannot recommend this place to anyone. We went to enjoy a meal together but felt put off by the service throughout the entire meal. I am flabberghasted and now regretful I brought my friends here. Instead of trying to clear up a misunderstanding or make things right, the server got upset, escalated the situation, and told us not to return. Finally, real Korean food in Seattle - like I'm back in K-town LA! As someone who lived in LA and used to eat in K-town all the time, I have pretty high standards when it comes to Korean food. After moving to the Seattle area four years ago, I honestly gave up on finding anything close -- everything felt overpriced and disappointing. But recently, I came across this spot after moving to a new neighborhood nearby. I wasn't expecting much... and I was completely blown away. I ordered the Gungjung Galbitang (Royal Beef Rib Soup), and it was insanely good. The broth was rich and comforting, but what really shocked me was the quality and sheer amount of beef -- tender, flavorful, and honestly better than most I've had even in LA. For the price, I genuinely had to do a double-take. We also tried the Ugeoji Galbitang (Beef Rib Soup with Cabbage), which was just as fantastic -- deep, well-balanced flavors. And on top of that, the restaurant atmosphere was warm, clean, and welcoming. Service was perfect too. It felt like a comforting little escape -- exactly what you want when you're missing home-cooked Korean food. I'll be back again this or next week for sure. If you're craving that real Korean comfort food, or you miss LA-style Korean cuisine, this is the place.
