Man, I really want to give 4 stars here, but I just can't quite give it the 4th, unfortunately. I had just finished a grueling four days* of working in Puget Sound, which involved a lot of being out and about without knowing where I'd be or what I'd be doing the next hour, so you can imagine how exhausted I was when I came in to order a nice takeout meal for dinner. For whatever reason, I was craving Mediterranean food, and when I was searching for Mediterranean food in the Bothell area, where I was going to be spending the next couple of days afterwards, this restaurant showed up third on the list! As I was looking through the menu, I noticed their main cuisine is Indian cuisine, yet they also served Mediterranean food, which I thought was intriguing, yet a little dubious as I believe that a restaurant serving a multitude of cuisines could subject themselves to being spread too thin in their kitchen. I had looked at their menu beforehand and had decided to get the Gyro Platter, Butter Masala with Chicken, and the Goat Biryani, hoping the Goat would also mean "Greatest of All Time." I also got some butter and garlic naan to go with the meal. When I came in, Azmat was there to serve me. He had such a pleasant and calming demeanor that I wish the quality of the food would have matched that of his level of service. After reciting my order to him, he mentioned it would take 15 to 20 minutes for my order to be ready. I was sitting in a seat by the front door while several other customers came in to pick up their online orders. I thought about ordering online, but realized it would have cost a few dollars extra to do so, hence why I decided to go there in person to order. After 10 minutes, a server noticed me sitting there and offered to assist. I knew it was early, so there wasn't much she could do at this point. 15 minutes later, an employee came from the back to hand me my takeout order while apologizing for the long wait. Well, not too bad of an extended wait though. But what was too bad was the two Indian dishes that I ordered. Neither the Goat Biryani nor the Butter Masala really left any impression whatsoever. They definitely didn't taste bad, but I felt the flavors in both were quite muted. I did like the Gyro Platter better, though, but I wouldn't say it was as good as other Mediterranean spots I've been to in SoCal. The Naan breads didn't leave any impression either; I would have guessed it was just plain Naan bread. For a fraction of the cost, I'm sure you could go to one of Safeway, Fred Meyer, or even QFC for a pack of plain Naan bread that would taste almost as good. Bay Leaf Bar & Grill is located at the base of the Junction Apartments next to McMenamins Anderson School. There's plenty of parking closer to the school, but parking adjacent to Bay Leaf is quite scarce. There's a wide bike path that almost looks like a sidewalk, but is wide enough for cars to drive through. There are a few on-street parking spots directly in front, but right before these spots, there's an alleyway that has a few parking spots albeit 15 minutes only. Some of the spots are reserved for McMenamins, but I do remember the first one not having any mention of McMenamins. I wouldn't mind coming back if I wanted a taste of both Mediterranean and Indian in the same meal, especially since the interior looked so fancy and well-maintained! However, if I wanted just one or the other, I'd look elsewhere next time I'm visiting the area. The food here is okay but the muted flavors are disappointing. Started with the Gobi Manchurian appetizer which is one of my favorites, and I liked that the cauliflower was lightly battered, but the sauce needed more spices and everything was buried under onions and bell peppers. Tandoori chicken and lamb curry also were cooked well, but again lacked any flavor. We asked for moderate spiciness on the lamb curry but it was more like brown mushroom gravy with no kick. Garlic naan was similarly baked well but wish we could actually taste garlic. Service was very friendly and the interior is clean and welcoming, though maybe it was a sign how empty it was at dinner time. read more

Got takeout from this spot and had a good experience! I did takeout from the Yelp app and liked that it showed me updates about my order directly in the app. The food was ready in about 20 min, which is great timing in my book. I was greeted at the front by one of the staff and they got my order to me right away. I did have to remind them about my mango Lassi, but by the time I reminded them there was already another waiter walking it over to me. I got the paneer tikka masala and it was lovely. Very much a comfort food. The mild was a little mild in flavor, so I might get a mild/med next time to add a bit more oomph to the dish. Generous serving of rice and the mango lassi was lovely! I will definitely come back for takeout and hope they make an appearance on some popular delivery apps soon. read more

Bay leaf is one of my favorite restaurants in Bothell. Family owned and run, the food is outstanding! My favorite appetizers are the chicken pakora and dolmathes. The chicken is crunchy and comes with a unique, tasty sauce. The dolmathes are classic grape leaves with good herbs. Main dishes that I love are the butter masala and the Chile chicken. You can't go wrong with anything you get here though. The Biryani is spicy. Full bar for those who fancy a drink with dinner. Classic decor, rarely too busy. Wonderful service. read more

Went in around 6ish on a Friday evening. The staff were very friendly and courteous. They did keep checking on us (probably she must be the manager or the owner is my wild guess). Ambience was also good. These are the items which we ordered - Paneer Tikka Appetizer - good Chilli Paneer - very good Gyro Platter - very good (loved the meat texture and softness) KARAHI (GOAT) - very good Garlic Naan - good Chai - good, felt great after getting wet in the rain Kulfi - good They do serve alcohol as well. I would definitely recommend this place and would visit once again later. Parking is a pain if you are totally new to this location. It would either be street parking or the parking in the garage behind (all spaces were marked resident parking, so I am not sure which one is reserved for the restaurant). We've been here twice for dinner now and both times we were left wondering why this restaurant wasn't packed. It's a family-owned Indian restaurant with delicious food and genuinely kind service! The garlic naan is some of the best we've had--soft, buttery, and packed with flavor. And the coconut chicken curry is absolutely incredible. Rich, creamy, perfectly spiced, and savory chicken --comfort food at its finest. It's been pretty empty during both our visits, which is such a shame because this spot truly deserves more love. We have gotten takeout from here a couple of times and finally had dinner here recently. They have a lot of seating space inside, and the service is friendly and quick. We got Tandoori Chicken, Goat Curry, and Tandoori Roti. We loved the Goat Curry, Tandoori Roti and Tandoori Chicken were good. For dessert we got Kulfi and Rasmalai. The chilly chicken is a decent attempt - although I find it has too much onions. Got a medium chicken curry and a chicken biriyani which was not bad. The paneer naan was like an indian quesadilla and was surprisingly good. Service was good. The place was about half full on a Fri night so you should easily get seated. Excellent meal last night at the Bayleaf. I had the gyro platter and my husband had the chicken kabob platter. The portions were very generous, I could only finish half of my meal - leftovers tonight! We also had a Samosa appetizer which was delicious. The samosas came with wonderful sauce of tamirind-and-something, and it made an excellent dressing for the lettuce on the Gyro platter as well as a dipping sauce. By far my favorite Indian restaurant around. Simple things like basmati rice, absolutely amazing, I have no idea how they make it so perfect. All their naan breads I can't get enough of. And the owners are almost always there and are super helpful and friendly, great service each time we've been. Their take out is also great and consistent. Really good Mediterranean and Indian food. I tried Baba Ganoush and Dolmathes for the very first time. Absolutely loved them. The onion rings were crunchy and tasty. Tea really felt like authentic Indian tea. The only thing that felt a little average was our main course - don't remember what I ordered but it had rice, chicken and some vegetables. We went on a Monday afternoon at 3 pm and were seated quickly. The server brought us the menus and after a few minutes came back to take our drink order. We ordered an appetizer along with the drinks and said we needed a few more minutes for the main dish order. After a few minutes, we received our drinks and the server took our food order. We were busy talking and kind of lost track of time and after several minutes, I started wondering about the Appetizer and saw that it had been about 25 minutes since our server came by. A few minutes later, she brings us our main course and I asked her what happened to the Appetizer. She said she would go check and it would be a few minutes but by the time we were almost finished with our dinner and still no Appetizer, I told her we didn't want it anymore to which she replied that the cooks had just finished making it, to which I repeated we no longer wanted it. The rest of the food we ordered was very good and the portions were plentiful but the lack of customer service in an empty restaurant spoiled the mood for us. I may or may not go back to try again. Maybe this was just a one off situation but I would hate to see if the service improved when they are busy. read more

I was hoping to leave a rave review today as we have heard from several people how delish the food at Bay Leaf is. Sadly, despite having a reservation and having friends drive an hour to join to celebrate a birthday the restaurant was closed at the time of our reservation. We waited a bit and then someone cane from side if building to tell us that they owner was on his way to unlock the doors. We were on a timeline and couldn't wait any linger and ended up going next door for lunch instead. This is not the first time I have had this happen at this specific location so I may just quit trying. Good Luck to anyone making reservations it planning to meet early in the day. read more

Very good Desi food!! Came here because it's shown up in some of the top rated Indian food lists in the area and it didn't disappoint. We ordered the Paneer Butter Masala, Okra and Garlic Naan. Each item tasted great. The staff and owners were very nice. The owner came out and talked to us to make sure we were having a good time which was incredibly sweet. 3.5 stars- The comfort food we were craving! - Polite, attentive, efficient service, clean restaurant - lots of offerings including no meat options - spinach naan - Mmmmm - flavors were good, the perfect spiciness (4 stars) for my palate, I'm not an Indian food connoisseur and have always loved Cedars in the U-district. -ordered the tikka masala and vegetarian korma. Both were good, 3 stars and fixed our craving. It seemed these dishes were served with lots of sauce and less bulk. Would love the sauces to be a tad thicker and the tikka masala seemed overly tomato tasting. - I was excited about their happy hour offerings- $2 off all apps and cocktails. - for 2 of us, each with an entree and a cocktail, our bill was only $70. Tikka masala was great taste and garlic naan was very soft and fully loaded with garlic flavor . Loved the naan defiantly going back to try other naan In menu. Very nice inside. Restaurant has nice big booths that were great for a large party and a bar area. They have a full bar which is sometimes hard to find with Indian restaurants. Food was very flavorful and delicious. Menu is big and has some variety. Good size portions. Would definitely return if I'm looking for a nicer Indian meal. Spinach naan and lamb curry stood out. It came with a small portion of salad and sautéed vegetables along with a small plate of hummus and pita. The gyro platter was delicious and flavorful! It wasn't spicy but they have a great chili sauce you can ask for if you like it spicy. The vegetables and salad were really refreshing. I didn't really care for the hummus, it's not great and not better than standard hummus. I would come here again to try the different menu items. read more

I don't usually give a perfect 5 stars, but I just don't have any negatives! We ordered from here through Uber Eats a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it, so we decided to dine in this evening. The restaurant located in downtown bothell is very pretty and inviting inside. It smells amazing when you walk in and the hanging lanterns make me feel so cozy. The staff were friendly and accommodating and we never had to ask for anything we needed. The butter masala was so mouth watering, omg. And dipping the garlic naan in it was like a taste explosion. We decided to come here because of the great reviews but left disappointed. When we arrived it was not very busy, but service was pretty slow. For appetizers we ordered the vegetable samosas, which were delicious and definitely the highlight of the night, but the falafel was slightly burnt. For our meal we ordered the Tikka Masala with chicken, but the order initially came out incorrectly (sent us Tikka Kababs instead). Thankfully the replacement came out quickly, but our waitress seemed to forget about us soon after. The Tikka Masala was very very sweet despite ordering the hot spice level, which was unexpected and unpleasant. The garlic naan was tasty though. Overall, our meal did help satisfy our cravings, but given the price and the outcome, we were left wanting more. read more
