Loved the food here. If you are looking for spicy South Indian food, this place shall be satisfying. We ordered chicken pepper fry, chicken 65, cut mirchi, bazewada biryani (spicy and non spicy), Gongura chicken biryani - All the items tasted super. Wanted to try their irani chai but was ove, better luck next time! Quick and friendly service, the place has good decor, the wooden finished use and throw cutlery was good

Overall, not much to complain about here--everything we tried was solid. We started with an order of samosas, which were impressively large and filling. They had a satisfying crunch, and the flavorful filling made them a standout appetizer. Honestly, these could be a meal on their own, and I'd definitely order them again. The garlic naan was thin but packed with a strong buttery flavor. It worked perfectly as a vessel for the butter chicken sauce we dipped it into. We also tried the goat dum biryani, one of their most popular dishes. The portion of rice was huge--almost overwhelming--but hidden within were delicious pieces of goat. I appreciated the goat's chewy texture, though the sauce provided wasn't nearly enough to balance out all that rice. We visited on a Saturday lunch and noticed that the dining area was pretty empty, with most people opting for takeout. It makes sense--they charge for bottled water and serve food on disposable plates, which detracts a bit from the dine-in experience. Next time, I'd go for takeout too.

First time in and we will not be back. It is conveniently located on Bothell-Everett Hwy, but the staff are inattentive/completely ignored us, most of the food was just not it, and the vibe was a bit off. They DO NOT ACCEPT the 15% discount code for Yelpers who check in, saying that it's owned by new people and that offer was from the last one. The masala tea wasn't flavorful/very thin, and had a lot of gritty bits at the bottom; the veg pakora was mostly batter bits; and the paneer absolutely upset our stomachs (the leftovers confirmed it). The corn soup was pretty good, and the naan exactly as you'd expect.

I was very disappointed tonight with my carry out order. I ordered in person when I arrived there and picked up my order the second it was done and I left home to eat my dinner which was few minutes away. The goat biryani was cold. I mean cold and not even warm. Hardly any goat meat but small pieces that mostly were bones only. The samosas were ok. It was a disappointment. They also did not give me my 10 dollars change back when they told me they will give it back when the food is ready and I forgot about it until I got home.

Mutton kheema biryani - goodness in layers

This is our default restaurant for rich, delicious, mouth-tingling Indian cuisine. On the spicy side, I have to introduce some of our old and new favorites :) For the appetizer, mutton fry is our go-to. Aromatic, complex, moist, with a gradual burn you will need a naan or roti to help put out the fire. We had a goat curry which I'm unsure of the name... maybe the Goan Goat Curry. This is a new favorite! Chunks of tender meat, some small bones so be careful. We know that meat nearest to bones are the tastiest! There was adequate gravy to soak up into the naan and roti. Another new favorite discovered: Mutton Kheema Biryani! I love my biryanis and this one was just superb! Served in layers like an Indian lasagna, the richness of this biryani caused my tastebuds to sing like a choir! That was all we do try with just the two of us. Will have to bring the family in again to get more variety. BTW apparently they now have chikoo shakes on the weekends. If you have never tried it, strongly recommended! But know that chikoo is a grainy fruit that is naturally sweet. If you are sensitive to textures, then maybe not.

The food the I received. Looks nothing like the menu. It was rice heavy and the chicken was boring.

If you want to receive the wrong meal 15 minutes later than the person who you are dining with, with piss poor service, and a restaurant who refuses to honor their own Yelp discount, this is the place for you! When we arrived, we could barely get recognized as a restaurant diner because there was so many take out people and companies. Obviously this is a takeout place with the disguise of being a restaurant. I was surprised to have plastic cups for water that never was refilled unless you flagged down someone. The cutlery was wood or bamboo. Not great. My husband got his meal. Later, another employee came to our table. I said that I didn't get my meal. He asked if I wanted it. Seriously? Fifteen minutes later I got my meal and it wasn't what I ordered. They said it was correct. Look at the pictures. No, it wasn't correct. It was so bad. It was a ton of rice with chicken that was filled with cumin. The flavor was so boring. Never was there an apology for the wrong dish or the delay. We waited forever to pay. I checked in on Yelp and for "appreciation" a 15% discount was offered in the app. The restaurant said that they "don't do Yelp" and refused to honor the discount. They are terrible. They rushed around for takeout. In restaurant? Nope. They obviously don't care about those dining in.

We have ordered biryani from here a few times now and have been liking it. This week we ordered Hyderabad Chicken Dum Biryani, Bezawada boneless Chicken Biryani, and Warangal Chicken Fry Spicy. We have had Hyderabad Chicken Dum Biryani a few times and liked it everytime. I loved the Warangal Chicken Fry, flavorful and spicy. We have also had their Hyderabad Chicken 65, and Goat curry and liked them both.

They say Egg biryani.. its white rice with eggs in it. Extremely disappointing. Will not order from here. Please order at your risk. You might or might not get real biryani.

Are there nuts in the food? I have a severe nut allergy!

Yes few curries do have nuts and few don’t. Please ask the staff when you order so we can get tht taken care of.

If I like spicy and flavorful biryani, which one should I go with?

I would suggest Dhum or Avakaya biryani. Both come in veg and non-veg

I love the music playing in the background, and the Mumbai themed décor is so unique and thoughtfully done. It really adds to the whole experience. Coming to the food, I specifically went for the happy hour chaat platter. I reached around 6:56 PM, and the platter is only available from 5 to 7 PM. Initially, I could not find it on the menu, and our assigned server was different. However, Rohan recognized us from our previous visits and came over. When I mentioned I was there just for the chaat platter, he kindly checked and found the menu for us. He let us know it would take about 20 minutes to prepare, which we were completely fine with. The platter arrived in about 20 to 25 minutes, and it was absolutely worth the wait. Everything from the bhel puri, pav bhaji bites, samosa chaat, to the sandwich was delicious, flavorful, and very satisfying. The chai was also really good. Highly recommend this place for both the vibe and the food. We will definitely keep coming back.

For whatever reason, I was craving Mediterranean food, and when I was searching for Mediterranean food in the Bothell area, where I was going to be spending the next couple of days afterwards, this restaurant showed up third on the list! As I was looking through the menu, I noticed their main cuisine is Indian cuisine, yet they also served Mediterranean food, which I thought was intriguing, yet a little dubious as I believe that a restaurant serving a multitude of cuisines could subject themselves to being spread too thin in their kitchen. I had looked at their menu beforehand and had decided to get the Gyro Platter, Butter Masala with Chicken, and the Goat Biryani, hoping the Goat would also mean "Greatest of All Time." I also got some butter and garlic naan to go with the meal. When I came in, Azmat was there to serve me. He had such a pleasant and calming demeanor that I wish the quality of the food would have matched that of his level of service. After reciting my order to him, he mentioned it would take 15 to 20 minutes for my order to be ready. I was sitting in a seat by the front door while several other customers came in to pick up their online orders. I thought about ordering online, but realized it would have cost a few dollars extra to do so, hence why I decided to go there in person to order. After 10 minutes, a server noticed me sitting there and offered to assist. I knew it was early, so there wasn't much she could do at this point. 15 minutes later, an employee came from the back to hand me my takeout order while apologizing for the long wait. Well, not too bad of an extended wait though. But what was too bad was the two Indian dishes that I ordered. Neither the Goat Biryani nor the Butter Masala really left any impression whatsoever. They definitely didn't taste bad, but I felt the flavors in both were quite muted. I did like the Gyro Platter better, though, but I wouldn't say it was as good as other Mediterranean spots I've been to in SoCal. The Naan breads didn't leave any impression either; I would have guessed it was just plain Naan bread. For a fraction of the cost, I'm sure you could go to one of Safeway, Fred Meyer, or even QFC for a pack of plain Naan bread that would taste almost as good. Bay Leaf Bar & Grill is located at the base of the Junction Apartments next to McMenamins Anderson School. There's plenty of parking closer to the school, but parking adjacent to Bay Leaf is quite scarce. There's a wide bike path that almost looks like a sidewalk, but is wide enough for cars to drive through. There are a few on-street parking spots directly in front, but right before these spots, there's an alleyway that has a few parking spots albeit 15 minutes only. Some of the spots are reserved for McMenamins, but I do remember the first one not having any mention of McMenamins. I wouldn't mind coming back if I wanted a taste of both Mediterranean and Indian in the same meal, especially since the interior looked so fancy and well-maintained! However, if I wanted just one or the other, I'd look elsewhere next time I'm visiting the area. Overall, 7 stars out of 10, but rounded down. * My visit was back in November of 2025; I had gone on a hiatus from posting reviews, hence the rather last post.
