Junior Kuppanna in Bothell seems to be popular mainly because it's one of the only places open early for weekend breakfast, but unfortunately, that's where the positives end. The food was mediocre at best. The idly was nice and fluffy, but shockingly small. It was about half the size of what you would get at most other South Indian restaurants. It honestly felt like mini idlies. The vada was made fresh, but it wasn't fully cooked and was still doughy on the inside. The coconut chutney didn't taste fresh at all and very clearly felt like it had been made days earlier and refrigerated. The ginger chutney was overly sweet and poorly balanced. The sambar and Filter Coffee were the only saving grace. Sambar had good flavor and the right consistency. That said, the only vegetable we found in it was onion, which was disappointing. Given the quality and quantity of food, the prices are completely unjustified. While I was surprised that the filter coffee was actually quite good, charging $4.50 for half a cup of filter coffee is nothing short of daylight robbery. The worst part of the experience, however, was discovering that they charge a 3% credit card processing fee that is not disclosed anywhere, neither on their physical menu nor online. This is unacceptable and misleading. I will be filing a complaint with the Washington State Attorney General's Office, as businesses are required by law to clearly inform customers of such fees before the transaction. Overall, this place is not worth the price or the hype. Convenience alone doesn't justify poor value and lack of transparency. read more

Chicken lollipop, the best i have eaten in the Pacific Northwest! it's crispy, spicy and juicy chicken! the Kovai Spl. Chicken Biryani is a pure Chennai delight and an acquired taste if you haven't had this biryani yet. it's a brown colored masala rice unlike the other biryani. the mutton curry was good, loved the mutton flavor. the idiappam was ok and the chicken curry could have been better. overall good ambience, lots of parking! read more

Came here for a date night and needless to say it was not what we expected... When we first walked in, it was busy- great sign for our first time!! We sat down at the bar and started looking over the menu. Their drinks all sound great! We ordered a drink and both of them were very sugary and syrupy as well.. not what we were hoping for. For food we ordered Veg Samosas, Peri peri chicken, and butter chicken. My partner got his food entree in less than 10 minutes. The flavor was good overall but we could tell it was hot held a little too long because it was a bit dry and dehydrated on the outer edges. It then took 20 minutes for our veg samosas appetizer which were ice cold in the middle and an additional 10 minutes for the butter chicken. A total of 30+ minutes for the rest of our food. which we were very disappointed about. When we got the remade samosas, they were overcooked to the point where only the filling was edible. by the time me and my partner could actually eat our meals together; our bartender was sweeping/mopping, the restaurant was closing, people were paying their bills and leaving. We were excited to try Konggu cuisine at JK. The menu was extensive with beautiful pictures of the food. However many items we wanted to try were unavailable. We settled for pallipayalam chicken, appam with mutton curry, bene dosa and kovai special mutton biriyani which we ordered for take out. The chicken arrived fast. Turns out it was microwaved as it had cold spots. The appam was also microwaved. They had cold spots. The dosa was fresh though thankfully. The Biriyani which were tried at home was delicious. After dinner we ordered a falooda but failed as it too was unavailable. Overall the food was fine. But don't count on being able to order what you want. Chef Gordon Ramsay would throw a fit at the pervasive use of microwaves in a restaurant kitchen. read more

A new restaurant in Bothell so definitely wanted to try . We got seated after like 15 mins of wait in Sunday evening . Service was quick and they have robot doing delivery for food. We ordered a berry drink which was nice refreshing and less sweet just perfect . We had bene dosa and dosa was amazing super crunch from outside and it came with 3 chutney and sambhar . 1/3 chutney was good and sambhar was not really sambhar it was like rao tomato sauce so reducing a star. And other chutney were not nice either . Baby corn was nice super crunchy San perfect spice Chicken pepper fry was good and flavour full. My son had mutton dish ordered too but it was chewy so when told they replaced with a chicken dish which was average and nothing great about it. They don't serve rice with gravy. We didn't like anything we ordered. We got the mutton curry, egg curry and the fried rice. The fried rice was from the indochinese section and it didn't taste Chinese at all. It was like a pulao. Ever since I realized Chennai-famous Junior Kuppanna, I wanted to try. The place did not disappoint - they maintained the taste. The place did not have much wait but soon got to waiting during peak times. Liked that the place is well-lit and pretty big. We tried kothu paratha, chicken biriyani and soup - loved all of them, felt authentic unlike usual Indian restaurants. Hope they keep up the food quality and service. Went in on a weekend to try out their South Indian Fare. We got the chicken 65, kothu parotta, kovai style biryani, masala dosa, mutton soup and their idli. Food was fresh and delicious. If you are looking for delicious authentic South Indian food, you have to stop by JK! We tried the Masala Kalaki which is a gooey egg dish that we loved every bite of. Next I tried the Kerala Chicken Kizhil parotta, it's a flaky parotta sandwich with chicken masala and egg stuffed in between and then steamed in a banana leaf. This was the first time I was trying this dish and it surpassed my expectations! I got some Togo just because I wanted to eat it again. Visited the restaurant for lunch during their first week of opening. The place was busy but we were seated immediately. We ordered the Non-Veg meals, Pichipota Naatu Kozhi, Chicken Korma, Madurai Bun Parotta, Filter Coffee and Rose Milk. Everything was good but were on the Spicy side. The meals came in a dish that was tricky to eat with (plate not deep enough). All the items in the meals were very good. The Bun Parotta was soft and fresh, very close to the ones you get in Madurai. Filter Coffee and rose milk were good too. Service was done by bots but since it was the first week of opening, they had someone to ensure the bots were accurate. The paneer dishes were average at best, and the overall taste lacked flavor and freshness. Considering the pricing, I expected much better. Finally a nice South Indian restaurant in Bothell! We tried the Salt & Pepper Baby Corn as an appetizer -- really tasty and well-seasoned (slightly on the dry side, but still good). The Podi Masala Dosa was absolutely on point -- crispy, flavorful, and perfectly made. Gulab jamun were decent too. Tried their non-veg thali. The flavors were on point: authentic, well-seasoned, and clearly made by someone who actually knows what they're doing in the kitchen. But... my dude... the meat portions? The chicken katori had what I can only describe as two emotional support strands of chicken, and the mutton portion was basically one lonely meat fiber floating in a sea of gravy -- a picture of poignant loneliness. I've seen more meat stuck to plates after a dishwasher cycle. I totally get it that the whole idea of a thali is variety -- a fair bunch of fillers to keep costs in check, and not a full-blown meat feast. But when the non-veg serving is so small that it feels like it's more of a garnish than the prime ingredient, it starts making people sad. That said, service was excellent, the robot concept was genuinely cool, and the atmosphere was clean, spacious, and nicely nostalgic. Keep that up! We tried this place twice - once for lunch and once for breakfast. for lunch we ordered Madurai mutton fry, JK special mutton biryani, chicken 65. The mutton fry and biryani were very good. Chicken 65 felt a bit too dry - a little wetness and garnish with curry leaves and green chilies could make it better. for breakfast we ordered benne dosa, puri, podi idli, and mutton Kari dosa. Puri was very good i closing the masala. Benne dosa itself was good but they need to work on improving their chutneys and sambar. In mutton Kari dosa (which I never heard of before) they put mutton on top of the dosa and served it with regular chutneys, sambar and a mutton gravy. The mutton gravy was good. The chutneys and sambar do not go well with the mutton dosa. Also mutton put on top of the dosa felt a bit try and could be made better with some moisture. read more

When a new restaurant opens, you feel excited to try it, hoping to discover a hidden gem. Unfortunately, this experience was the complete opposite. We left feeling disappointed and honestly cheated because the food was extremely poor in quality and overpriced. We ordered Paneer 65 Biryani and Gobi Manchurian. The biryani felt like tamarind rice made with broken rice, overloaded with chili flavor and containing hard, rubbery paneer pieces. It lacked balance, richness, and authenticity. The Gobi Manchurian was even more disappointing -- it tasted like plain fried cauliflower with just salt and artificial color. No proper spices, no flavor depth, nothing that resembles what Manchurian should taste like. I understand the excitement around a new restaurant, but I would strongly advise against wasting your money here. It is simply not worth it. There are many other options you may be bored of, but at least you won't feel cheated paying for food that tastes bad, looks unappetizing, and is something you could easily cook better at home -- without burning a hole in your pocket. read more
