This is a wonderful place to come to celebrate. It was my friend's birthday and she chose this place for brunch. We made a reservation on Resy (which is really great if you have American Express because they have a special dining compensation program through Resy). Brittany was our server, and fantastic. We started with the martini espresso and a cappuccino heavy on the foam. My friend ordered the tender pulled beef short ribs with pan roasted potatoes that came topped with perfectly fried eggs. I ordered the shrimp and grits with eggs over easy. The grits were so creamy and wonderfully hot, temperature hot not spicy, and the shrimp came flavored in a sauce that is hard to describe but very easy to eat. Conversation was possible because it wasn't too loud and the seating was fantastic, not tight or packed together, and there was in fact a really wonderful covered patio space outside complete with attractive center table and decor of lights. For her birthday there was a lemon ricotta cheesecake that was perfectly doused in cherry sauce with optional Graham powder crust circling the moist and light cheesecake. Came with a sparkler which made for the perfect occasion to take a birthday photo. And even complementary many pours of champagne to toast. I don't know if there's a better place to dine in Bothell. Madison graciously mailed over a gift card for me to come back to their quality of customer service and food after a not-so-great takeout experience. I made a reservation for patio seating and when we arrived, I walked inside, shared my name and reservation, and was directed to our table by one of the hostesses. We had a party of five + a pup! Everyone ordered the Cottage Burger while I treated myself to the short rib hash to try something different. Service was excellent! Our waitress came over to take our order and when we got our drinks, we were checked once again and was notified our food was coming shortly. Food arrived fresh, hot, and delicious! All in all, giving The Cottage another chance after I've been coming here for years before the takeout experience has reminded me the quality of customer service and food stayed the same pre-Covid and post-Covid. I was expecting a lot from this place because when we pulled up everyone seemed very happy and had amazing looking food on their plates. We did get seated very quickly for having no reservations and the blonde lady who greeted us seemed really nice. But when we were sat it went down from there, service was slow, I can't tell if it was because we were young or weren't dressed up enough. And I don't want to get stuck on this point because I know all restaurants work differently when it comes to their sections but we watched as our waiter sat a whole other table, greeted them, and got their drink orders before even approaching us. After we were sat for over 15 minutes. Then we ordered matcha's because a guy by us had one and it looked so good. It was given to us with chunks, meaning they didn't prepare it properly and still decided to serve it to us. We weren't given any water refills until 40 minutes of sitting down even though we had both finished our waters before we even ordered our matchas. The food was delicious and was served quickly. And the girl who served it to us wasn't our waiter but gave us more energy and excitement than our original server did. I still tipped the waitress well because I don't want to hold the stereotype of being a young unappreciative customer. But I dont think it was really deserved, in the nicest way possible. Came to check this place out with a friend for a Saturday brunch--we picked it since they took reservations, which is sometimes hard to find as a lot of good brunch places won't take reservations on the weekend. I tried the croissant french toast, which was delicious although a tad too buttery for my tastes. It wasn't too sweet and the texture was good (not mushy, more crispy on the outside and bread-like though I wouldn't say it was fluffy either), and since it wasn't too sweet I did get to try their maple syrup, which was a great pairing. Very odd, but I did also order scrambled egg whites on the side which were not something I expected to stand out to me! But they were delicious! I also added some breakfast sausages but they were a bit sweet and I probably wouldn't order them again. The vegan coffee cake was alright, but they topped it with cream cheese which I don't like, so I just had to pick out the bread from the bottom. The cottage is one of my favorite brunch spots! I have tried to many dishes and they're all consistently great. They also have tons of cocktail options too. This particular day we got to sit next to the fireplace in the big comfy chairs. It has such a warm and cozy atmosphere. They do also have outside covered dining as well with heaters in case it isn't warm outside. My personal fav is the eggs Benedict on a CROISSANT! I loved the bun that they use and their bun to meat ratio is good as well (I hate it when it's too bready). Was this the best burger I've ever had? I wouldn't say so, but it was still pretty good. I was kind of sad when they forgot the truffle oil on my fries but it wasn't a big deal to me. The fries themselves were very addicting, crisp, and well salted. We have never tried this place even though m regularly doing business nearby sometimes in the same parking lot. It always seemed like a trendy expensive wine bar and our trip confirmed that opinion. She succumbed to dessert with the apple crisp and added ice cream. Needed the ice cream!! It was ok but my wife makes a much nicer apple crisp especially when our Asian pear trees are fruiting!! Overall I was surprised that most all of this experience lives up to the hype I see here regularly. We noticed young couples and families coming in for the HH experience but they kept it simple and just light compared to our choices. We could not finish all the food we ordered and the bill was up there!! We might not be back regularly due to that but it's worthy of a splurge for sure! For a restaurant in one of downtown Bothell's oldest and run down buildings, they have done a lovely job decorating and ambience to make you forget that when you are inside! I had visited The Cottage back on 3/25/25 for another group event and was really amazed with the hospitality, service, dining area, and the food/bev served. After regaling my amazement, it was decided to make reservations for brunch. Yesterday (5/3/25) I finally met up with fellow Yelp Elite and IGer, Carol C. Again, both the outdoor covered and indoor dining/bar areas were full...at 930 Saturday morning! Service was friendly, waitperson was able to answer various questions to steer us in the right direction to decide on menu items, items came out in good time, and we were checked upon periodically while we were onsite. Carol C. decided on French press coffee service and the Eggs Benedict with hash browns. I decided to try the Short Rib Hash again. Because The Cottage started awhile back as a coffee purveyor, they know their roasts well as the coffee service came with a hourglass timer. We polished off our respective entrees and which spoke well for both the FOH and BOH/kitchen crew in their joint execution for brunch service. Flavorful and nice presentation visually. However, there's some things to mention as pro tips to consider: *Reservations are highly encouraged. There is a time limit and also penalty if one does not show up or cancel a reservation. *Give adequate time to arrive and find parking. Street parking and the shared lot can get pretty full with other businesses nearby or activities happening in downtown Bothell. I imagine they are popular for all meal service including happy hour. *Carol wished her English muffins were toasted more. I am glad they allowed over easy vs hard cooked eggs atop my short rib hash. I wished my entree was hotter in temperature and had the fingerling potatoes as experienced before, versus the fried hash browns or shoestring potatoes provided. Yes, it provided crunch, but I prefer substance as my first meal of the day and with that $28 price before tax and tip. *It did get pretty loud with all the lively collective convos going on. We ended up ordering and eating within the hour and headed to a nearby indie cafe for better conversation ability. *Menu items are a bit of a splurge. It's... okay. We came here on a Sunday night for dinner. The wine list is solid but I picked a white by the glass that they had in stock, but was not chilled. My wife's rose sat in the window for several minutes while they figured out how to handle this in a mostly empty restaurant. They profusely apologized, which I appreciated, but I would have appreciated a suggestion or maybe a taste of something rather than "you can pick something else or wait for the wine." Putting me on the spot like that, especially with the QR code menus, I just decided to wait as they chilled the bottle. Speaking of which... I wish they printed their menu. The QR codes were fine during Covid or in a place like Argentina where the prices change constantly, but every other restaurant prints their menus because it's nice to physically hold something and flick through it. It's part of the experience. If I want to read a menu on a phone, I'll just order at a counter or as takeout. As far as the food, the mains were good, but I thought the bread we ordered to start wasn't very good at all. It didn't taste like much at all. The chef's burger was solid but just be aware it's a bit on the greasy side. Mixed feelings about this restaurant. Pros: The restaurant has a very cute, small town vibe. Very clean and elegant. The wait staff seated me quickly without a reservation and my waiter was helpful and nice. My 16oz cappuccino ($8/9) was very tasty, and came out quickly. My friend ordered biscuits and gravy with a mushroom gravy instead of the normal pork one. She said it was very good. Cons: I love creole food, so I ordered the shrimp and grits. The flavor of the sauce was good. However, the grits were not creamy; they came in a gelatinous like mound. The shrimp were also overcooked. I asked the waiter if this is how the dish is normally served, and he said yes. So I definitely wouldn't recommend ordering that, unless you prefer overcooked grits and shrimp. Parking is not good. Most of the spots in the lot are designed for other businesses, and there is minimal street parking. There's something across the street that looks like a lot, but I just had surgery, so that was too far of a walk. Why I won't be back: Overall I enjoyed the experience and would have wanted to try the restaurant on different occasion to give the food another try. However, as my friend and I were wrapping up our conversation (I just had surgery, and this was my first time outside in weeks), I overheard the head waitress/front desk woman tell my waiter" if they want to stay and talk, they can go outside". And when I looked over, she was looking at our table. I understand that restaurants are busy on the weekends, and you want to have a quick turnover. However, there was no line, and I would've been perfectly fine with the waiter coming over and letting us know that they needed to turn over our table for new guests. Customer service is just as important as the food, maybe even more so. I will continue to give my money to a restaurant with good customer service, even if the food is mediocre. We had a mixed but mostly positive experience at The Cottage. Our group of two adults and two teens ordered a good spread off the happy hour menu plus a few mains. The highlights: the Rye Me to the Moon cocktail was excellent, and the Hearth Orchard Brussels sprouts and Snake River Farms meatballs (both happy hour) were standouts -- great flavor and clearly well executed. The Prohibition Lime Caesar was also really good, and the Braised Short Ribs were a hit. The one miss was The Cottage Burger -- the bun was toasted way too hard, almost impossible to bite into cleanly. Everything else on the burger was fine, but the bread let it down. Service was great -- attentive without being intrusive. My only other gripe is the seating setup: the outdoor tables have four legs pushed right up against the benches, which makes it awkward to slide in and out; and the indoor tables were a tad small. We were hoping to sit outside, but aborted that plan when we saw the setup. Overall, still a great spot -- I'd come back and just order around the burger. They took them back and made new ones and the manager took them off our bill. This place is always a hit! Whether it's a girls brunch on the patio with mimosas or a casual coffee with a friend, I always look forward to spending a morning at the Cottage. The service here is wonderful. They are really friendly and always greet customers with a smile. I will say, I usually do double check with them that they got down my order as gluten free/dairy free/whatever substitution because I've had them forget a few times. But otherwise lovely! My friends rave about the quiche! I am gluten free so I love getting the gluten free bagel with lox with eggs on the side. The shrimp and grits is another fave. Came here for breakfast today and it was delicious. We got a wide variety of food and it was overall tasty. The shrimp and grits were rich and had a bit of spice to it. The portion was massive and I got two eggs with it too. The fresh toast was great and not too sweet. The bananas made it even better. The hollandaise was just okay with the scotch egg but the sausage was the best part of it. The hollandaise was a little too tangy in my opinion. I also got a dirty chai latte which was just okay as well. Probably better hot and not iced. Overall, really lovely breakfast. read more
