I had been waiting for the proper excuse to travel north to have dinner north to have dinner at Russell's Restaurant. Finally got it last week. At today's restaurant prices when you splurge on a nice dinner you really want it to be an experience. Russell's delivered in every respect. Although it is located adjacent to a business park you feel like you're in a small town rural setting. Our server was wonderful. He was equal parts host, advisor, comedian, and server. His skill added to the experience, without being intrusive. Cocktails were delightful. One Laphroaig with a big cube, one Huckleberry cosmo. Dinner was a split beet salad, one ribeye done medium rare, and one rack of lamb also done medium rare. Both were perfect, the salad was the great starter. Came to Russell's for the first time for a Valentines wine dinner featuring Warr King and Vagabond wines. Interesting story there with the wines/owners that I'll spare you - but to the event. Wine was flowing and overall tasty. As with any tasting, some are to your taste, some aren't. The food overall also was good! Nitpicking we were less than impressed with the rissoto and a couple other small things - but considering they were catering for 100 folks and still running normal service downstairs it was pretty good! We are from San Diego where the sun is always shining. But- every time we make our way out to Seattle we make sure we make reservations at our favorite restaurant in Bothell. This place is a hidden gem of a restaurant located in Bothell business park area. Each time I visit, every table seems filled. This visit I had the Filet Mignon entree medium-rare and it was perfection! The focaccia bread served with a balsamic/oil dipping sauce was freshly made, toasty and warm! Service was incredible as well...I don't think my water glass ever went below half-filled throughout the evening. Very pleasant atmosphere that feels subtly upscale. What a magnificant restaruant! We celebrated my birthday here and made reservations via Open Table. That process went smoothly and our table was ready when we arrived. We started with the Beef Tips and the charcuterie board. Wow, the beef tips were fantastic--Soo tender and flavorful. We got the fettuccine with prawns, rack of lamb (their special), sea bass, and filet mignon for entrees. Everything was so wonderfully prepared. I very much enjoyed the garlic mashed potatoes. I asked for my steak medium well (on accident, I word vomited) but they cooked it how I asked... even though in my heart I meant medium rare. The server explained they had to butterfly the filet open to cook it that way. For drinks, I got an amaretto sour (my go-to) and they made it beautifully. We ended our night with espresso martinis and WHEW those were strong- we didn't finish them. Slightly disappointed by that... I like mine creamier and saw that Bailey's was an ingredient so I figured it would be more to my liking. The ambiance was nice- quiet, elevated, and classy. We liked the decor and table settings. We found parking pretty easily on a Friday night. We had a reservation for 6:30 and were seated right away. The staff were kind and attentive. The atmosphere is white table cloth but cozy. We each ordered a glass of wine - Grenache & franc. They were good. The bread is included with the meal and delicious. $4 for a refill. The baby spinach salad was the star of the night. 5/5 stars for it. My partner liked his fettuccini, but it wasn't anything special. He'd get it again if the opportunity arose but prefers an Italian spot in downtown bothell. For $40 I expect top notch food and the pork chop entree wasn't it. The waitress said Russell liked his butterflied medium well, so we went with that. It came out pretty well done with some grill char. We should have gone with medium. The mashed potato's were solid. The butternut squash was underdone and lacked flavor while the 3 Brussels sprouts were over cooked, under seasoned, and some of the worst ones I've had from a restaurant. It was disappointing. The bread pudding was 95% bread with maybe 5% pudding. It was more of a monkey bread. Good but not exactly what we wanted and very sweet compared to other bread puddings. There was definitely a lot of caramel, and the message was a nice touch. The food was generally good but not at all worth the price. It was fun to knock it off the to-visit list, but I wouldn't go back for anything but the salad. Being a steakhouse, the interior is the typical dark wood look and decorated with lots of game (skin, head), too many, in my opinion. Eeew... The Food: Classic Caesar Salad, half, $7.50 - 4 Stars Served with house-made garlic croutons and parmesan, the half size is just right. Bread (refill), $4 - 4.5 Stars Macrina Bakery Herbed Focaccia. These are served warm and deliciously buttery and herby. They are quite an indulgence. Grilled Salmon - 4 Stars I am guessing it is the same beurre blanc sauce but with simplified sides of mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables of green beans and carrots. The normal menu grilled salmon is $54 and served with shiitake mushrooms, potato gnocchi, and veggies. Doesn't matter, though. This was a delicious dish where the wild king salmon is perfectly grilled - tender and not dry. As long as the salmon is good, I am satisfied. read more

My partner and I came here for an anniversary/Valentine's Day celebration as we had never been and had read some of the good reviews. The ambiance is cozy, dim lighting, it almost felt like a mountain lodge with the decor. Our waitress was nice and the gentleman refilling the waters came around at appropriate times. You get a basket of bread with EVOO/balsamic vinegar for the table. We ended up sharing a caesar salad, I ordered the chicken breast and my partner ordered the scallops. Both of our entrees were amazingly delicious. He said the scallops were some of the best he's had, and the chicken breast was spiced right and so juicy and moist. For dessert we got the crème brûlée, yum! It's definitely a pricey establishment but the food was wonderful. Situated in unusual business complex, this is a charming restaurant with rustic look. I believe it's called Russel because owner is named russel. At least that's what local customer said at the bar. The staff is extremely pleasant. They seem to have a cheers appeal in that lots of local customers seem to dine here. The bartender was very attentive and balanced a heavy work load. The drinks are fair priced and well made I heard the food is good. I ended up ordering salad and soup. Soup was lobster bisque soup. 3 of my colleagues also ordered ended up ordering the soup because on a cold night it seemed good..... bad call!! Between the 2 bowels and 2 cups we ordered, it almost seemed like the used 1 very small claw for such large order of soup. It looked way to liquid and it tasted like it looked. Terrible. It was dark and rainy outside, and I was surprised that it was sort of located in a business park and much larger than I thought when we parked. The location is pretty odd, it's in the middle of a business park, but the ambiance inside is very nice and cozy. Plenty of parking due to the location. Let's talk about food, we did love our appetizers a lot, the scallops were delicious and cooked perfectly. The pasta wasn't nice, the shrimps were done nice, but the sauce wasn't great at all. I did like the duck, but the skin was very chewy, not crispy like it needs to be. We also had the bread pudding which was very dry, the savior was the caramel sauce to dip it into. Sure you don't get the ultra-classy contemporary ambience but do you really care about that when the food is around the best you'll find? Disappointed. Again. As soon as we walked in the door we were hit with an unusual and not very pleasing aroma in the air. Salad: soggy mixed greens you buy at the store and never eat. Topped with blue cheese and pecans. Salad was over salty, limp and slimy. We both pushed ours aside and the busser picked them up. She asked if they were ok and my partner explained to her the issues. I saw her talk with our server with the salad plates in her hand. Server never mentioned the salad issues with us and I'm not sure if we paid for it. I hope not. Scallops: I could smell them coming before I saw them, this wasn't a pleasant thing. They were barely seared on one side. That's it. I put one on my plate, saw that it was basically raw and unappetizing and put it back where it came from. Chicken: it was burnt. Skin was over seasoned and brunt as was the bone. Had to remove the skin. Chicken was dry, over cooked, no moisture left in it. Bottom part of chicken was burnt as well and had a horrible charred taste. I had to be careful what part I ate. They use the same sauce for the chicken and the duck. You can see where they are trying to save money. Same side and Vegs for most dishes and using a sauce on more than one dish. This surprised me as chicken breast and duck are completely 2 different flavor profiles. Russell's is a place you want to take people to impress that don't know a lot about food. This place is close to home and I have had it on my radar for a few years. Finally had a perfect opportunity to try it out on our anniversary. It has a wonderful soft light and ambiance. Would have definitely been better without the kids. Since we had to take kids with us, I was pleasantly surprised they have a kids menu. The best part is that nothing was deep fried in that menu and priced very reasonably. Kids enjoyed a pink lemonade, salmon and grilled chicken tenders with gnocchi. Quiet large portions for the price. For us, I wanted the mushroom appetizer because I LOVE MUSHROOMS . It was a big bowl of well cooked variety mushrooms. The sauce was light and flavorful, perfect for bread dipping. Was it mind blowing? No, but a nice starter. By the way, bread was very good and complimentary. No matter where I go, I always order scallops. They were perfectly cooked with a beautifully light sauce. Great mashed potatoes and side of veggies. Carrots...yum! Hubby ordered steak. Im not a big steak person but it was DELICIOUS!!! The sauce was as tasty as advertised in all the reviews I read. We got a side of mushroom risotto which was ok, I would not order that again. Lastly, the dessert! We literally ALWAYS order creme brûlée. We have tried this dessert in so many places and in different countries. And if I sound like a total creme brûlée snob, that's because I am! It was very sweet of them to write happy anniversary on the plate. The flavor was wonderful but there were some shortcomings. The sugar on top was way too thick and the texture of the creme brûlée was not smooth. But again, it tasted great. Interestingly, the server, graciously, took our feedback and even agreed about the sugar and said she would let the chefs know. I respect that! Came here for happy hour and to sit in bar at 5:00 pm on a Saturday. No one was in the bar but a couple. We were met by a bartender that clearly was irritated we weren't there for dinner. Regardless, this was a wonderful evening for the 4 of us catching up. For the price point even happy hour, we were at 300.00 dollars with drinks, service was truly lacking and aggressive. Nothing about the service was genuine or even kind. I can gather this server/bartender had a bad night and will definitely give grace but super bummer as this was a special night for the 4 of us and service was curt and unkind. There was no ok waiting for our seats so again, just didn't make sense to the unfriendly service for our night. We heard many good things about Russell's Restaurant & Loft but we did not know anyone who had actually eaten there. We decided to try it and went on Saturday evening after Valentine Day. We made a reservation a couple of weeks before and went on a cold snowy day at 5 pm. It was a wonderful experience. Russell's is in an old barn in the woods outside Woodinville. GPS is useful for finding the way. It is interesting from the outside but upon entering it was beautiful. It looks like a country lodge with lots of wood and interesting furnishings. We were warmly welcomed at the reception adjacent to an active bar and shown to our table. The restaurant is nicely darkened and we were shown to our table where we met our server. Our table had a nice white tablecloth and good space in a section of the restaurant with about 6 tables for 2 to 4 diners. The area filled quickly but was pleasantly quiet. We felt very welcome and comfortable. We got water and menus and drink lists with lots of choices and a large variety of wines and alcohols to choose from. We ordered a couple of glasses of wine and some excellent focaccia bread and looked over the menu. The menu had a special Valentine dinner available that had been offered the day before and a wide selection of regularly offered items. We ordered two salads followed by pan seared duck with risotto, and scallops with garlic mashed potatoes. Vegetables were also served. There were also side dishes available which were not needed. The salads were large and one could have been shared adequately. Everything was prepared perfectly. We had dessert of crème brûlée and a chocolate caramel tort. Both were great. Our server and assistant were very good. They gave us good suggestions and took care of us without being intrusive. It was a wonderful meal and made a wonderful evening. It was expensive but good value. It was nice but not at all pretentious. We will definitely come again for another special occasion. Russell's has a motto that they are "simple, done well". This place was rumored to be very special from a number of friends. The food was great don't get me wrong. I am from Portland and decided to treat my brother and friend to a special night out. I hate to give thumbs down without thumbs up. The thumbs down concerns the price for what you really get. First of all Russell's is located in a office park. Granted when you get to Russell's it's a special barn renovated into a fine dining restaurant. Still, the first impression is it's an office park unfortunately. To be fair I just had breakfast on this trip at Salish Lodge-ambience plus! When entering Russell's there was no one there to greet me. I felt there was a lack of sophistication here that I expect from a first class restaurant. This is a casual place with great food. Our meals were good. The best was the New York strip steak. As an appetizer, The foraged mushrooms were spectacular. Salmon and scallops good as well. The scallops were a bit over seasoned but my sister in law disagreed so there is that.
