The calamari was delicious, and a decent sized portion. The steak frites was cooked excellent and comes with shoe string-esque style fry! I had the salmon which was super balanced and recommended by the server. It was excellent and also a healthy portion! The espresso martini was on the sweeter, creamier side, and impossible to put down. I had two . My surf and turf sat in the window for a good 10 minutes while they waited for the seafood lasagna my partner ordered. Was offered to microwave it. Yeah, no, I don't want a $50 microwave dinner. Was offered a fresh cook but didn't trust it. We returned both items. Salt and Iron used to be a place for great drinks and food. Well... this is awkward, I cant help but feel a little disappointed, the food was good don't get me wrong, but the standard fell. OK let me explain, the cinnamon roll alone which was a rock star was nothing like its former self, and we always start with the cinnamon roll. It was a disappointing start and then being seated next to a really loud table when it's just the two of us, just kinda makes it seem like a little more effort should be given. I had the steak benedict and that was insane, they even managed to cook it a little pink for me as last time it was definitely over cooked, this time around it was perfect and cut beautifully and just tasted amazing. Met a couple of friends for brunch on a rainy weekend day at Salt and Iron, and it's definitely a good place to go if you want to catch up with your girlfriends over some good food. I had the spicy avocado tartine which was very good, but I would have liked a serrated knife to cut it with; I was a bit concerned that I was going to fling my tasty food off the table! My friends ended up splitting the crab Benedict and modifying it all over the place and the waiter couldn't have been more helpful in getting them what they wanted. They did comment that the two crab cakes were very small, but did enjoy their meal. Since I had a longer drive home, I ordered the guava lemonade. I didn't really taste any guava? I came here for dinner and it was amazing. I thought that every dish was executed perfectly. The amount of food is actually pretty good too - I had to get dessert to go since I was so full! The steak tartare was well balanced. In my experience, it's way too easy for the seasonings to overwhelm the beef, but in this case the ingredients complimented each other and I could taste the quality of the beef. The calamari was cooked excellently with great breading, and I loved how they also breaded and fried the pickled jalapeno to switch up the dish. The result was so flavorful I didn't need to use any of the sauce The house salad was on par. The house made bread was so crusty outside and tender inside. It's not bakery level, but very delicious. 10 oz filet mignon was a lot of food. I think honestly the amount of steak was larger than 10 oz, and it was served with rich and creamy mashed red skin potatoes and asparagus. The red wine demi-glace was almost redundant since the steak was so juicy! I had to take my brulee cheesecake home since I was so stuffed and wanted time to take a walk and digest a little bit. I loved how the sugar crust on top was still intact and crunchy. The cheesecake was so creamy and smooth. The lemon pastry cream punctuated the vanilla flavor of the cheesecake and switched it up. The only thing that I noticed at my last visit last week, is how insanely hot it was in the restaurant. It was hard to enjoy my food because it was soooo warm. Went for brunch with a party of 8 (we had reservations). Place was pretty full, but seemed as if there was plenty of staff. Our waiter, though very pleasant, took FOREVER to even acknowledge we were there. Once he handed us our menus he disappeared again. Ordered a beverage and didn't arrive until just before the food, which we waited 30 minutes for, once we placed our order. One order came incorrect, one came incomplete. Two of the orders had biscuits that had a strange aftertaste. I ordered the lox tartine and the bread/toast was so hard I couldn't cut it, even with a steak knife. I eventually resorted to scraping everything off the bread and discarding it. Waiter never stopped back to check if everything was okay. We ended up at Salt and Iron on Sunday at 3:45, when the place we wanted to eat wasn't opened for business yet. We had a party of 3 and they got us seated right away. We all order different entrees, halibut, surf and turf, and steak salad. Everything was delicious and the Entrees all had sides that were just as good as the star of the dish. If I had to choose only one stand out, which is difficult, I would choose the halibut. The halibut was done perfectly with notes of citrus and pico de gallo, yum! The service was great too. What an incredible experience it was to dine at Salt and Iron. With a rich flavor forward menu, it was hard to not order one of everything. Came here for my birthday after having such a great experience last year, and I was especially excited for the cracked pepper dinner rolls. Unfortunately, it sounds like their pastry chef left, and the rolls have been replaced with fairly average bread. That was definitely disappointing since it was my favorite part of the meal. That said, the steak frites and salmon were both excellent, and the overall dinner was still enjoyable. We live a bit farther away, though, so without the rolls, I'm not sure we'd make the trip again. For anyone closer to Edmonds, I'd still recommend giving this spot a try. This is the first time I've been to Salt and Iron and I will definitely be back! This is easily one of the best meals I've had out in a long time. I started with a clarified margarita which tasted mild but packed the punch of a regular margarita. My friend had the old fashioned with walnut bitters which was just as delicious. Cocktails 10/10 I saw octopus on the menu and had to get it. Wow! It was tender, the chimichurri was perfectly balanced, and the mustard sauce on the greens worked so well with the potatoes and octopus. Next, oysters with a mignonette granita. It was a perfect vinegar punch and made the slurp nice and icy. Delicious! Then the steak! Perfectly cooked. A ton of delicious mashed potatoes and asparagus made a nice side. We came in on a weekday dinner around 4pm to celebrate something (No reservation as it was last minute) Since the restaurant had just opened, we were seated right away. They had a happy hour going on so we ordered house liquor. We asked the server what the house liquor was and selected bourbon. The server asked us how we'd like it and said they could do straight or cocktails. So we decided to try old fashioned. When we got the bill at the end, we were surprised to see a cocktail fee of $3 which the server never mentioned or we did not see on the happy hour menu. As for the food, we were somewhat disappointed. For the price, we expected better. The stake was tender and medium rare but didn't have any char from the grill and lacked flavor. Mashed potatoes were really creamy and good. Seafood pot was ok. The mussels didn't taste so fresh. It was smoky and tangy. I've had better seafood soup elsewhere for less price. The service was okay. Not amazing, not horrible. For the price, we have expected better quality food and experience overall. The waiter was very friendly and we placed the orders with some of his suggestions. 1) spanish octopus was very tender and flavorful. It had a hidden spicy kick which I did not mind. 2) bavette (ordered from the dinner specials). It was a well grilled steak over herb salad and squash. Cute neighborhood restaurant in downtown Edmonds. We made long drive here planning a rare family gathering, secured reservations with plans to have plenty of of time to walk to the terminal and watch the sunset, all was for not. First our party of five had to wait for more than 10' for our table. That was an ominous sign of all that was to come, waited all to long for our waitress to come and take our drink and appetizers orders. Our appetizers came and it took forever for our drinks to come than forever for waitress to come for our dinner order and of course you can predict the service with regard for dessert and check... as a result we missed sunset. Overall way below par service from the waitress I was in favor of 10% tip for out 500 dollar bill but my wife felt generous and did 18%. At least the food was decent, not amazing but acceptable but combined with the sorry service don't recommend at all and we surely won't be back! read more
