This restaurant is perfect for dogs since they have a covered patio! It's comfortable but not super casual, making for a delightful ambiance. I like that you order at the counter and your food is brought to you. The servers are kind and make sure to take care of you! To drink, I had their special lavender mocha, iced. You first taste the chocolate and then a hint of lavender. The mango mule and strawberry basil spritzer are delicious drinks too. To eat, we had the pulled pork sandwich, the blue burger, and the lamb burger. The burgers were cooked nicely and were flavorful. The pulled pork is tender and tasty! Stopped here for lunch. It's a busy restaurant -- that seemed to have a lot of regulars. You walk in and order and then sit at a table with a number and they bring your food out to you. You get your own water, napkins, utensils, etc. Ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich and the Fish Tacos. They were both really good!! The fish was cooked perfectly- hot and fresh. And the sandwich had great flavor and the chicken was cooked well. The service fell short for us. We ordered drinks which didn't come out until our food did -- which was almost a 25 minute wait. When the food did come out, I was brought the wrong meal and had to wait longer. For me, the prices are also a little steep for the portion sizes and also not having a server. This was my second time visiting Blackbird and it's quickly become one of my favorite lunch spots for a sunny day! The inside is very charming and there's an outdoor seating area to the side which is perfect for enjoying the weather. Keep in mind that this place is mostly self-serve except for when they bring your food out. You order at the front and you bus your own water and utensils. The food: SO good. Both my friend and I got lamb burgers and ohmygosh they were so juicy. The sauce, greens, and bread all worked really well together. It definitely had a strong lamb flavor though which I know can be divisive, but lamb is my personal favorite protein. I loved how thin and crispy the fries were. I also got a lemon lavender spritzer which was very refreshing and subtly sweet. It didn't taste much like lavender but I enjoyed it nonetheless. 10/10 I need to come back asap! read more

This is one of the spot I will come back every once a while. It's in the neighborhood of shoreline by Richmond Beach area. Great service and food. The first couple of times I came were great, the 2nd two times I came were terrible. Don't think I want to try again. Both bad times were midday on a Saturday. I got the fish tacos and the avocado salsa it comes with had a big hair in it. Another time, I got the salmon chowder and it came cold. The Caesar salad was decent and normal. No protein added already 10 dollars. This place is self serving. They want you to order at the counter, get your own utensils, pour your own water, and clean up after yourself. I pass Blackbird each time I go to Richmond Beach Library, be it on foot or via car. The people coming and going from the restaurant via vehicle I have found to be considerate when I am crossing their path on the sidewalk and they are arriving/departing. This morning, Monday 22 January 2024, I decided to make Blackbird itself a stop when going to the library to find a new book to read. The parking lot was mostly full, with a few spots open further away from the restaurant. An electric sign in the window clearly communicated it was open. I opened the door to find pastries on display inside the front entrance as well as a friendly and alert counter worker. Looking over the offerings, I was happy to see an item I had spotted in photo(s) on the website of the business, croissants. They were on the larger side and looked texturally light, so I went with two. Payment was straightforward and the worker was careful in packaging the two croissants to go. They did turn out to be textually airy (fluffy) and the interior was moist and buttery. The exterior showed its layering well and was a beautiful golden brown. This is my favorite small business in the area by far! The staff is always friendly and remembers the locals because they're also part of the community. You can always count on them for a smile and great service. The food is good any time of day! Our favorite is the Saturday exclusive crème brûlée doughnuts. The salmon sandwich is a go-to for us for lunch but the rotating specials are seasonal and always fresh. My only gripe is they are closed on Sundays! They always seem the most enticing on a Sunday. Came for Happy Hour which had some pretty great deals. The beers were $6 each and the tap list was small but had a good variety so there is something for everyone. As for food, we got the Caesar salad, seafood tacos, mushroom quesadilla, and Vietnamese beef skewers all of which were $10 or less. The seafood tacos were a bit disappointing. The salmon and cod are cut into tiny bite size pieces (think popcorn) so the breading to fish ratio was not ideal as all I tasted was the breading. It also didn't have much flavor in the toppings; the slaw with it was bland and the pico de gallo was good but one note with no complimentary toppings. Thankfully the other items made up for it. The Ceasar dressing was solid and croutons were great. The mushroom quesadilla was excellent and bursting with flavor from the various cheeses, onions, mushrooms, and poblano peppers. They were so friendly behind the counter, the weather was beautiful so there were quite a few people sitting outside and the person behind the counter seeing me masked gently suggested I put utensils down on a table to save a spot while ordering. I had a beet salad which was good with freshly cracked pepper and its goat cheese, a latte, and their signature cookie. We ordered cocktails and dinner. I had the Christer with fresh muddled basil and fresh lime juice. My husband ordered off menu and had a French martini which was slightly dryer than expected. Food was great! I had two hearty fish tacos with guacamole and pico de gallo. Quickly seated I immediately noticed how the Utensils, napkins and more is situated in the middle of the restaurant. I think that's kind of neat so if we're missing something, this is one less thing to have to call a server over for. We had light bites and beers here - Started with Pulled Pork Sliders which features 'honey molasses BBQ sauce' on Macrina buns. These were good. Mushroom quesadillas which I was tricked into eating since I like mushrooms, and these were not bad. Vegetarian friendly. Lastly the Vietnamese beef skewers which again, good and with a nice presentation. Blackbird doesn't sound like much of a name and is huddled in a parking lot with some other businesses, but this was seriously a nice cap to our hang out with good food, drinks and friendly staff. I am convinced that there are no consistently good restaurants in the entire state of Washington. They are also overpriced for the quality of food and lack of service. Having g said that, Blackbird is a solid 3 out of 5 stars. The food isn't terrible, it is average in flavor and portions are small. Granted we went for happy hour so the portions may be stunted to justify a few dollars off the regular items, it isn't actually a better deal economically to order off the happy hour menu. However it gave us the opportunity to sample a few of their dishes without completely being hosed by the bill. You order at the counter and they give you an opportunity to add a tip for serve they won't give you. You have to get your own utensils and water as described by other reviewers. The restaurant has poor acoustics so be prepared to listen to everyone's conversations. We tried their seafood chowder which should be renamed as bisque with nothing but potatoes. No crab or any fish was present in the soup. Their mushroom quesadilla was average, not great and not awful. The salsa was old, definitely day old and water logged over something that could have been sour cream or mayo. The slider dish came with two small slider burgers, each with a small juicy patty and a slice of pickle. Again, no real flavor or flair but a solid average slider. The Vietnamese beef skewers for $10 was a ripoff. No hint of lemongrass was detectable in the beef flavor. The cabbage salad had a hint of peanuts and something sour. Fish tacos were cutoff bits of maybe salmon and cod fried and thrown in soft tacos and with the same stale salsa. Nothing extraordinary but that is really the best you can hopeful in this state. Overall this restaurant puts me off in terms of their expectations for tips for zero service and average food offering. If I am in the neighborhood again, I would not revisit. read more

Loved this cute cafe! My friends and I came here just in time to catch the end of happy hour which was from 3-6 on Saturday. They have some great options to choose from and literally everything sounds so good. We ended up getting an order of pulled pork sliders, beef skewers, burrata, and quesadillas. It was all delicious. I especially liked the beef skewer and the peanut slaw that it came with! Much of the menu is still the same but they've adapted to a cafe model where you order and pay up front, seat yourself, give yourself water, and grab your own cutlery from a stack. The staff does drop your food off at the table. While ordering, they asked if we'd like the salad and Vietnamese skewers first - yes please! Blackbird Burger and Fish/Chips to follow. Food takes about ten minutes to come to our table. The salad and skewers were on the table for less than ten seconds before they brought our mains. We hadn't even had a bite of appetizers before the table was full! That was disappointing because now our mains will be cold or we ignore the apps. We chose to eat apps first. Caesar salad was forgettable and could have been from a kit. The Vietnamese skewers were the highlight of our meal: tender, juicy and flavorful. When it came time for my burger, after three bites with no meat, I opened it up to see that the patty was an oval about half the size of the bun. It was actually quite sad. It tasted alright when everything was together, but definitely not worth the $18. The wife said her fish and chips were ok, but wished she'd tried something else. No one asked how the food was. Maybe they already knew? Sad to say that, after many visits in the past, we both agreed that this would be our last time. read more

I've been here twice within the last 7-8 months to meet friends out. Both times I had dinner (fish and chips) and they really are phenomenal. I like that this place is small with good service.
