Blackbird is a lovely looking restaurant in Richmond Beach. We recently ordered takeout but noted that the ambiance looked great for both indoor and outdoor seating for our next visit. We ordered the mushroom chicken and the salmon. Both came with mashed potatoes and veggies on the side. The chicken is a breast and partial wing, and it was cooked phenomenally--juicy, tender, flavorful. The salmon was unfortunately overcooked. And the potatoes were a bit chunky but otherwise very tasty. We also had a cup of seafood bisque to try, and it was delicious. It's quite rich with a subtly sweet sherry flavor to the soup. Our cup didn't have many seafood pieces, but the ones we tried were cooked just right. And we nabbed a slice of German chocolate cake for dessert. The chocolate flavor is not very pronounced pronounced, but it's otherwise a delightfully moist cake with a crunchy, textured filling of coconut and walnuts (I think). The staff was friendly both on the phone and in-person, and their prices are super reasonable. We will definitely be back to try some other appealing things on their menu! read more

I have visited here at least fifteen times. I have eaten breakfast, lunch, happy hour and dinner. The quality of the food is what makes me return. I'll break it down in meals . First, for breakfast they have a great array of quality baked goods. For weekdays, the Croque Brioche Breakfast Sandwich, that has Dijon, gruyere, egg, ham. This was a high quality sandwich, full of cheese and ham. You can get this, with a side of scones or coffee cake and be very happy. Or, the Chorizo Scramble; Roasted Poblanos, Jack Cheese, Chorizo, side of potatoes and flour tortillas is delicious. For Saturday morning,I come for the Joes Scramble, which has Italian sausage, shallot, spinach, parmesan, scrambled eggs, side of potatoes is delicious. Or, Brisket Hash which has Yukon potatoes, peppers, onion, fried egg, scallions . Get this an a mimosa and you are in brunch heaven. Moving on to lunch., I have to give a shout out to their seafood bisque. Something I order no matter the time. Rich and creamy. Sometimes more potatoes than seafood, depending on the chef. A real must have for me. Lunch, I order the incredible Salmon Sandwich. This is excellent. Grilled Coho salmon, pesto mayo, greens, tomato, onion. Really, this my favorite order here. The salmon is softly grilled, my favorite. I usually get the soup with this, not a big French fry fan. If you order this sandwich, a glass of their excellent white wine and a homemade dessert, you have an excellent meal. One tip: come on Monday, where wine is half off. I have also been here for happy hour. My favorite seafood chowder is on the list. Also had Cesar salad, mushroom quesadillas, sliders and Vietnamese beef skewers. All delicious. Their dinner choices are innovative. Had beef stroganoff, that was really good. This is an order and mostly serve yourself restaurant. Got the roasted chicken salad and it was very satisfying. The portion was big and the flavors were really varied - salty and sweet, the chicken was juicy. I'm dairy-free and gluten-free so I had to order it without cheese or croutons but I was still pleased. My family had the specials and they really enjoyed them. My ONE complaint - they don't have gluten-free bread for sandwiches or gluten-free buns for the burgers. That means that most of their menu is off limits for me. Similarly, the salads all have cheese and croutons, the chowder has dairy, the tacos are served on flour tortillas, etc etc. So, basically I can only eat the salads and I have to alter them in order to eat them. No, please don't offer me a lettuce wrap. It's 2025, I'd like an actual bun. I'm looking forward to trying out their breakfast menu though cause there looks like there might be more for those of us with dietary restrictions. read more

What an amazing cafe. We wandered to Richmond Beach Saltwater park today because of the super low tides, and searched for a spot for takeout as we were heading home. A quick search brought us to Blackbird for their fish tacos. Without a doubt these were the best fish tacos I've ever had (the order includes 2 soft tacos). The beer battered fish was a good size portion and was crispy, flavorful and cooked to perfection. The taco is served with lime slices, fresh cilantro, shredded cabbage, chipotle mayo, pico de gallo and guacamole. Beyond delicious, we'll definitely be back!! Note: The chipotle mayo is typically served on the taco and the other items are on the side, however I asked for the Chipotle mayo to be on the side as well. read more

I have eaten at Blackbird numerous times, but this time, they missed the mark with my salmon dinner, chosen for takeout. The salmon was prepared as requested and the buerre blanc was a nice accompaniment. Sautéed carrots and asparagus were problematic; the carrots were woody, requiring me to pick them up with my fingers to eat. The asparagus had a strange taste, sort of like a soapy residue, so I gave it a pass. The Yukon mashed potatoes were very dry. I was puzzled that a dinner with these issues would be sent out their door. I will hope for a return to a better product next time. read more

This is a small, casual, neighborhood restaurant with a pleasant patio area. You order at the counter and then grab a table. They bring the food to you and seem to semi-serve the table from there. They have a couple good burgers and a really good Reuben. We like the fries, too. Small bar area with a small TV but it's not the place to go for the big game. Full bar and limited parking so a lot of neighborhood people just walk to it. Super friendly service. read more

Blackbird is a newish, hidden gem located in Shoreline's Richmond Beach neighborhood. It has been rebranded from the former Hill's. This destination is not to be confused with Blackbird in Seattle or Blackbird in Winslow/Bainbridge Island. This is definitely a welcomed sight for this Yelper and 18 year plus Shoreline resident. Snoreline, I mean Shoreline, where quality dining choices are often pretty limited. I decided to celebrate the end of the WA State pandemic restrictions by checking out their Happy Hour, which runs from 1500-1800 daily. You can sit anywhere and not be restricted to just their bar counter for Happy Hour. Glanced at their menu and specials board, placed my order at the register, you're handed a number, select where to sit, and help yourself to self serve water and flatware wrapped in a cloth napkin. Pay at the front counter at the end. Pro tip: Don't be a dork on auto pilot like me, where I sat down at a two top waiting for someone to take my order. Duh, facepalm, read the signage. Wear glasses and still clueless, lol. There are a variety of seating available: at the bar, main dining area, or outdoor patio. I opted for a two top proximate to the outdoor patio and enjoyed the pleasant breeze. Vaccinated and hopeful for culinary preC19 experiences Happy Hour choices I selected: * Dark and Stormy cocktail, $13 regular, $11 HH. Refreshing. * Cup of Seafood Chowder ($6 HH) Velvety bisque like texture, not much seafood though, and potatoes were a bit firm and underdone. Serviceable, but a pass for me. It doesn't hold a candle to the chowder from Kuzma's Fish Market in Edmonds. * Vietnamese Beef Skewers (2 for $7 HH) Flavorful and tender. The Asian inspired slaw beneath had an decent dressing, few noodle strands, peanuts, but it was just too much volume wise. I would have preferred one large, crisp Romaine leaf for color and crunch. * Richmond Beach Sliders (2 for $7 HH). Saved the best for last. Last time, I had HH sliders was at Epulo's near the Edmonds ferry terminal, which were meh. Blackbird's version, however, were hella awesome, juicy, delicious, spot on amazing! The whole composition was simply remarkable! Brought one home to The Homie and he agreed with my waxing poetic. Blackbird also has friendly host and counter staff. Clearly a badass kitchen line that respects proteins with their on point execution. Free parking in their private lot. Close to Richmond Beach Saltwater Park.. I will definitely return to check out their coffee, baked goods, and weekend breakfast/brunch items, like Joe's Special. Finally a place off the beaten path, well worth seeking out in Shoreline! I really liked this place up until last week. My husband and I went in and ordered his burger and I ordered a steak Caesar. When our food came out I was on the phone but swore my salad was incorrect. The only cheese I cannot do is blue cheese and it was some sort of blue cheese steak salad. When we asked the waiter he opened with, "oh yeah, that's my bad." Then proceeded in a way that was definite. My husband reiterated that it wasn't what we ordered and the waiter suggested "for times sake," to take the steak that was covered in blue cheese, and at this point cold, and he would bring me a new salad bed. I stated I did not like blue cheese at all and he insisted on doing the same thing he had suggested. At this point I'm just irritated and hungry. Once he realized my irritation he proceeded to go get a new salad, leaving the one behind. I did not touch it and he returned for it and offered a beer to make up for it. I appreciated the beer but I hate going back and forth when something is incorrect. I should not have to be convinced to eat what is placed in front of me when it is not what I ordered. Doubt we will be back anytime soon, but I'm sure my husband will be craving their burgers sometime this summer. read more

We stopped here after our first choice was closed already. Parking was almost filled up and we had a little trouble finding a spot to park our larger vehicle. Walked in and a very friendly employee said, "first time"? We said yep! I guess we looked confused LOL. She let us know the system, grab a table and water glass/utensils yourself. Over look the menu, you order at the front desk and they will bring it out to you. Food was very flavorful. I was feeling soup/vegetarian meal on the rainy day and they only had a seafood chowder so I settled for a Caesar salad. The "awesome sauce" ascendent beer was the best part IMO! Great cafe if you're near Richmond Beach or Shoreline area. Blackbird has a nice cozy vibe when you walk in. You order at the counter and they have a self serve water/utensils station. They also offer coffee and pastries. We went for lunch and ordered the Blackbird Burger and Oven Roasted Chicken Salad. The salad had a basil vinaigrette dressing with blue cheese, raisins, almonds, and tomatoes - very tasty! The burger came with a red onion jam and came with shoestring fries. Overall a great place to catch up with friends over coffee/food. Parking is easy. read more

We discovered take-out from blackbird during the pandemic, now it's a monthly dinner out, sometimes weekly. Best French Dip anywhere, love the house salad, excellent cocktails (love the blood orange martini). That's my standard order but husband has tried everything and loves pretty much all of it. Seafood chowder is also a favorite. Picking up your own silverware and water on the way to a table is homey and means the wait staff attend to everything else very diligently. This was one of the two places they recommended and boy, are we grateful that we have found a new spot to enjoy meals. Type of cuisine: American comfort food, done thoughtfully. Ambiance: Tucked away, slightly removed from a main thoroughfare in Shoreline, one can easily miss this single story establishment beside a couple of other places to eat. Outside, a large, umbrella-covered patio offers a perfect spot to enjoy a late summer or autumn meal in the sunshine. Indoors, the warmth of the wood and darker colors feel like a friendly hug. A limited number of tables and chairs are available for those wishing to dine indoors, but quickly fill up as no reservations are accepted. A small half-wall separates the bar, which consumes half of the square footage. What I ordered: Our friends started early, arriving in time to get a table before the masses descended, and enjoyed, first, the Mixed Grill Skewers ($9; $12 outside of happy hour) - Chicken, Prawns, Andouille, honey-garlic Dijon glaze, garlic toast. For our main meals, we had one order the Vietnamese Beef Skewer ($9; $12 outside of happy hour) - Flat iron steak, lemongrass marinade, roasted peanut slaw, and a Caesar Salad ($6; $9 outside of happy hour) - Hearts of romaine, traditional dressing, parmesan cheese, croutons, another ordered the RB Sliders ($8 off of the happy hour menu) - Dijon mayo, cheddar cheese, pickle, mini Macrina brioche buns, a third enjoyed the Grilled Steak Salad ($20) - Marinated flat iron steak, mixed greens, apple, tomatoes, basil vinaigrette dressing, blue cheese, croutons. For the littlest in our group, a soup fan, she enjoyed a small cup of the Seafood Chowder ($6; $8/$11 outside of happy hour) - Crab, shrimp, cod, salmon, port, cream. The next oldest ordered a Grilled Cheese Sandwich from the Kid's Menu ($9.50) served with haystack fries. For our oldest child, the R.B. Burger ($16) with Bacon ($3 additional) - 1/3-pound ground sirloin, Macrina brioche bun, Tillamook cheddar, barbeque sauce, Dijon mayo, haystack fries. For my husband, the 12oz. Grilled Ribeye, cooked to order ($38) with scotch herb butter, seasonal vegetable, Yukon gold mashed potatoes. And for me, the Roasted Beet Salad ($14) - Arugala, goat cheese, pistachios, red wine honey vinaigrette - to start, followed by the Grilled Coho Salmon ($26) served in a puddle of beurre blanc, with seasonal vegetables, and Yukon mashed potatoes. What I loved: The seafood chowder was light with hearty chunks of seafood, the salmon was perfectly crispy on the exterior, soft and flaky inside. The roasted beet salad was delightful, fresh and vibrant (more chevre would have made it even better)! The one haystack fry I was offered was perfect! Such a light crispy crunch followed by soft, doughy potato. I would have loved to try other meals, but our seating and conversation didn't allow for it on this visit. Why I loved it: The staff was very friendly, helpful and cheerful - they genuinely seemed happy to be at work, and at work at Blackbird. The space is light-filled and joyful and the food, wonderful. I'm a local and have tried hard to love this place through all its iterations. However, I won't be returning. Food: the fish (fish and chips) is always greasy. I was appalled last week that the butternut squash ravioli was inedible. Desserts look good but are so sweet my teeth hurt. Ambiance: I'm going to call it ok. It is small and often crowded. Service: ok, this is where my head does a Linda Blair spin. I've always been annoyed that you do all the service (water, utensils) yet they trap you at the iPad kiosk looking for 20% tip. But here is the reason for this review. The owner (I assume) was doing three things and the new guy (I assume) was taking my order. It was slightly before dinner. But they threw a bunch of menus at me, and were babbling things that I couldn't find on the menu. At some point I asked them to tell me what they were serving right then so I could get my order in. The owner replied "was that sentence too long for you honey?" I admit my confusion, but she was rude and, frankly, doesn't know my mental capacity. Bye bye Blackbird. read more

I really enjoyed this spot! As others have said it is rather tucked away so I drove by it and was very confused and my phone service was spotty as well. It is tucked back where it is supposed to be so don't worry you will find it and they have a nice set of dedicated parking. I had the beet salad which was delicious and quite hearty. I look forward to trying more at this place in the future and even coming for coffee and a pastry sometime. They do have outdoor seating right now which was nice on. Clear day but I wonder if it will go away as the temperatures drop. Make sure you check out the beach park if you are in the area and also apparently the pizza place in that same block is really good but I havent tried it yet! read more

We were looking for a restaurant that serves happy hour menu near us. BlackBird seems to have pretty good review and serves happy hour from 3-6pm. We showed up in the restaurant at 5:20pm and ready to order but was told happy hour ends at 5pm. I mentioned the Yelp shows happy hour menu from 3 to 6pm. The male staff was rude and made condescending remarks with smirk reply: "We have nothing to do with Yelp". I guess the rude attitude of the employee and small portion/high price result the many empty tables. We won't be returning! read more

Saturday Brunch review: good value, way more hits than misses. Mildly confusing seating and serving routine, but we worked it out. For better service, sit at the bar. Simple menu of usual suspects. My huevos rancheros featured fried crisp tortillas, which I enjoyed, but no beans, which were missed; the only protein on the plate was the overcooked fried egg (why?). Nonetheless, the roja sauce was bright and spicy and tangy, and the potatoes were accompanied with a lovely sweet pepper and onion sauté. Very tasty! My gal's croque sandwich was tasty too, and the eggs were cooked properly. There was no side accompanying the sandwich. Service is stretched thin, like it is everywhere it seems, but friendly and efficient. The portions are small, but not the flavors. The prices are very reasonable, and with coffee and a cocktail apiece we were $62.39 after a 19% tip. Excellent! Bitchin' boozy brunch on budget: accomplished. Booya. Recommended. read more

It was all do it yourself breakfast other than the cashier dropping off the food. What a surprise, wonderful find! Met up with a friend at Richmond Beach park then was starving so we did a quick Yelp search for restaurants. This was the first listing that came up. Average of 4.5 stars and only .3 miles away? Score! They've streamlined the process to where you seat yourself and grab your own menu, water, and utensils, which I found clever in these pandemic times. The menu was just the right size, too, where there's a bit of everything from starters, salads, to entrees, and dessert. I wanted to try something from each section! We ended up with the beet salad, seafood chowder, chicken burger, and the chicken entree. Whew, was it plenty food for two people. And all so delicious! The beet salad so refreshing, the chowder so warming. I could tell the chicken in my entree was perfect when I cut into it. So tender and moist. Yes, I said moist! Loved the hint of lemon and plentiful mashed potatoes and veggies. My friend gobbled up the burger in no time, which is a testament in and of itself. What a sweet, neighborhood spot! Found ourselves in Richmond Beach area & had this cafe bookmarked to try. I had been following on FB & the food looked so good.....today we were not disappointed! Quaint & comfortable decor, clean & sleek yet in an inviting way. I wanted to hangout there & linger. At 2:15 on a sunny Tuesday, it was busy with what appeared to be locals. What a treat to have Blackbird in their neighborhood. Hubby had the delicious Reuben with ample portion of salty crispy fries (2 other tables of regulars got the Rueben too so it's a crowd pleaser). My fish tacos were delish. We resisted the dessert but I could come back just for that. The woman at the next table had the berry Cobbler w/ ice cream & she said it was yummy 'homemade'. This really falls under "Neighborhoud Gem" type of place. You appreciate it when you go there regularly, at any point of the day or week, and have whatever is on the menu at that time. The team working there is generally pretty welcoming and cool, remembering their regular customers' favorite foods and drinks, that kind of thing. The tables are not cramped. I try to eat outside on the terrace at all times, it's a nice and sheltered corner. But the inside is nice and spacious as well. And please do keep the clockwork Violet on your menu. ~You know who ;-) read more

This is a local restaurant for us, and when we eat there it's a pretty good experience; however, we often enjoy picking up the order and eating it at home and this is when Blackbird gets LOW marks from us (I'll explain). On more than 4 or 5 occasions, we have attempted to call in an order and either their phone rings and rings and rings, or there is no signal at all. ARE THEY OPEN? WHO KNOWS?!! They really need to hire a phone consultant and get a system in place that isn't so detrimental to their business. Two stars because I've had enough of this b.s. read more
