We came during a busy brunch hour on a Saturday and worried how long it would take to get our food. However, our food came out to us within 10-15 minutes. We ordered the Bloody Mary, croissant sandwich and classic eggs Benedict. Everything was super tasty. Would definitely come back! read more

So good!! So much better than when we were here before....when it was Hills. The service was exceptional. The drinks were good and the food was delicious. We each had a seafood chowder and we split the salmon. They split the salmon for us and gave us two plates!! So nice! Friendly, comfortable and the outside patio is lovely too. Cute little restaurant, tucked back in a corner and off the beaten path just a bit. Drove past it but found it quickly enough. You have to order at the counter and grab a number. This cafe was a delightful surprise! A bit off the beaten track, this is a neighborhood gem. Judging by the brisk business, a lot of people must agree! The service was friendly and professional, and the menu items my friend and I ordered were delicious. I had the fish tacos (grilled, not fried), which had perfectly cooked fish and all the accoutrements you would expect. My friend had a half salad/half sandwich with a caesar and a reuben. She said the reuben was very good. We were so excited about this cafe that we've decided to meet there again! read more

But mostly, I wanted to extend my gratitude today to all of your staff from my crew to yours for your patience. We extended our stay today (we felt that comfortable) to gather and vent about our recent situations. Find a seat, grab utensils and pour your own water. Interesting concept for a limited dining room but not worth the effort. Dining on the patio is probably the better choice. The food was disappointing, paired with excessive noise from the bar. Which is worse, greasy shoestring fries with what looked like leftover fish or hearing the people at the next table instead of your friends? It's a twofer that's best forgotten. read more

Split review on this one. 5 stars for the outdoor experience; 3 for the indoor experience. The outdoor seating is amazing in nice weather and I love the food and staff. I also love the cozy community feel. The indoor seating, though, is just too loud and the lighting is weirdly intense. I'd recommend the owners incorporate more acoustic dampening and soften the lighting - maybe a solution that doesn't require replacing the lighting - just softening it? As much as I love the food and staff, I just can't eat there when it's too crummy to be outside. read more

I don't want to discourage anyone from going to this place because the food is decent. And the outdoor space in the summer is a great place to go. It's just that you need to align your expectations with what you are going to get. As others have mentioned, there is no table service here. They tell you to "go pick up a menu over there", then you seat yourself, then you have to go back up to order your drinks, then you have to go back up to the counter to order your dinner, etc. etc. You pick up your own utensils, your water, and anything you need to replenish. I wouldn't have minded that as much but when you go up to the counter (again) to pay, they swing the pad around and ask for anywhere from an 18% to 25% tip. For what? Our other complaint was the place was FREEZING. We kept our coats on the whole time and got out as fast as we could once we were done with our dinner. Looks like everybody else was eating with coats on as well. (The concrete floors don't help. ) And lastly the bar was super loud when we were there; I believe the loudest people were the ones who were working at the bar. read more

Doesn't look like much, kind of like a hole in the wall. (I find those places to be some of the best!) I don't usually leave reviews, this place is A M A Z I N G! I ordered the flank steak salad. WOW! You pay ahead, give them a 20% tip and after that you are screwed! (how tacky!!!) It was my husband's birthday, we went with his brother. His brother got the steak salad that smelled so good! After several minutes of waiting for our burger and fish & chips, I told his brother to go ahead and eat. We waited several more minutes, I finally went inside and saw I saw a burger and fish & chips waiting to go. I asked when will we get served and "Cashier C" said exactly, "you'll get it when it is ready" So I went back outside and waited another long 5 minutes more. Our food was cold. For $20, I expected more than 6 bites of tasteless cold fish, at least the burger was okay but who likes cold fries????. It would have been nice to be able to all eat at the same time! What was the 20% tip for? You have to get your utensils, water and then bus your own table! This was at the top of my list for worst dining experiences ever! read more

My friend and I came here for dinner on a Saturday and it was amazing! I had the shrimp gumbo and my friend had the Chicken Burger! The fries that came with the burger were so good!!! We also had the German Chocolate Cake! All I can say is wow!!! The service was friendly and inviting!! This is differently a great place for your two legged and four legged family!!! This place is a local gem! Nestled behind an old building in a highly residential area, it can be easy to miss. My friend and I went here for brunch on a Saturday, and the joint was busy, but there was no wait. It was a beautiful day, and the doors and patio were open. My friend and I got two dishes to share -- I got a scramble with potatoes and toast and she got the French toast with spiced peaches. Both were absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced! In addition to other taste treats, Blackbird's seafood chowder is amazing -- among the best I've ever had (a cup also featured on their happy hour menu). Features crab, shrimp and good-sized chunks of cod in a bisque-like port and cream. Heavenly. Great food if you can handle all the attitude from the staff & people in charge. I'm a very undemanding customer in general & will tip even after a poor experience. We've now had three occasions where it is clear the people working here don't value our patronage. Which is sad bc I had the best hamburger of my life here. I'm not saying I won't go back but I WILL expect to be treated somewhat poorly & I'll expect sub par service. In fact I'd rather serve myself so I don't have to interact with the people who work here just for one of those hamburgers. Not a bad place but definitely not one of the best. Has lost all of its charm with the McDonalds style of ordering / service. It is very hit and miss with what service they do provide. One time e got a bunch of attitude from the bartender who was more interested in the game then the patrons. Last time was one of the better experiences but still just not what Hill's used to be. We didn't eat here because there were not tables available and the outside tables didn't have their heaters turned on so that we could enjoy them. Tried the Blackbird Cafe yesterday and it was delightful! From the moment we walked in the door we were greeting us with smiles and happy to see us. I suffer from severe allergic reactions so I have to be on a low histamine diet and I was delighted that I could order several things on their menu without having to omit things, this made me very happy! The Roasted beet salad was dynamite, more beets than I've ever seen in a salad before, it was delicious! The seafood chowder was excellent as well. The service is fantastic and it was a very pleasant dining experience, we will be back! read more

LOVE Blackbird! The chowder and steak salad are my go-to's and I'm a creature of habit, when I find something I LOVE to eat, so I haven't veered off the menu much more than that. They have amazingly friendly service, and good cocktails too! There is outdoor seating that is pleasant, and bar seating as well. Super cute, fast, friendly and delicious. I'll just say it. This place was terrible. We came for a relaxing brunch but this was nowhere near relaxing. You have to do everything yourself except cook your own food. This is a glorified cafe. You have to seat yourself (fine), but also get your own menu, water, silverware, coffee, salt, pepper, get up to order your food, and even bus your own table. The only thing they bring you is your meal but they don't come back to check on you. They pretend to be a fancy sit down restaurant but it's not. The coffee was TERRIBLE and the food was mid. I didn't even finish it. It tasted like nothing so I brought it home so I could try to doctor it up and see if it would be edible. I'm so disappointed, it's so expensive to go out these days so it's super frustrating when you have a bad experience. I want all my money back. read more
