Off Main is under new ownership, and the new owners are working on improvements! I had not been in this building since it was Hamburger Harry's. The inside of the restaurant was remodeled and feels cozy and cabin-like. One owner (Christian) told us about his ideas for the restaurant and they sound wonderful. He is clearly detail oriented and cares about the experience of his guests. My family ordered nachos as an appetizer which were delicious. I ordered the honey ginger salmon. My parents ordered a veggie burger and French dip. Our food came out promptly and hot. We all really enjoyed our meals. If you haven't been to Off Main recently, it is worth stopping in. We ordered the pretzel with the cheese sauce. The pretzel was extremely salty, the cheese was very stringy. I ordered the chicken masala for dinner. Definitely didn't look like chicken masala and more of a thick gravy texture. Came in Sunday around 6pm to a nearly empty dining room. The $29 steak salad arrived half medium, half raw (asked for medium-rare), with a pale colorless sear and a marinade so absent I had to salt every bite. The salad base and dressing were genuinely good, which made the steak more frustrating. The chicken pot pie soup special sounded exciting. It was just a thin runny cream soup, barely-there chicken, no puff pastry in sight. More disappointment per dollar. My boyfriend ordered the steak taco. You're in downtown Edmonds, WA, walking from shop to shop and passing restaurants and a starbucks when you start to get hungry and remember one of your friends recommending Off Main to eat at so you head there. I should not have listened. The first two dishes I ordered, they did not have. I ended up ordering a meatloaf and while the outside crust was nice, the middle was cold and mushy. Off Main is not the best food I've had in downtown Edmonds, but it's a serviceable dinner spot. It has a cozy lodge-type place with some sports bar edges, and it's kid-friendly. My review, in fact, is based on our family experience dining with two little kids. Our waitress was kind, patient, and accommodating, the kids menu was thoughtful, and the kids food was pretty good. Parking our stroller next to our table was treated as totally fine (not always the case), and there were two other tables with kids in view. The tables aren't crowded against each other, and the ceilings are high, so it just feels spacious. It's nice to have a dinner place in town we feel comfortable taking the kids! The food itself was probably more like a 3.5. We (the parents) both ordered dishes that came with mashed potatoes and a veggie, and both sides were great. The problems were with the proteins. My husband got a quite small piece of halibut that was so overcooked, I couldn't choke down the bite he shared with me. He usually likes overcooked fish, but even he commented that it was dry and tough. My meatloaf was not your typical but not bad...it just mainly tasted like soy sauce, and wasn't interesting enough to want to finish. We both left full and satisfied if not wowed. Next time we will try some of their salads. And there will be a next time because having a good service experience at a restaurant motivates us to return--as long as the food is pretty good, which it is. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed off Main with how much I love it. It's a great dish of food every time with friendly staff and not too crowded. I really like what they did to update the space from being hamburger Harry's. That was an institution, but it was lacking in some ways. It's nice to have a burger on the menu and also have vegetarian options that don't feel like an afterthought. My mom and I randomly stumbled upon this place last night and couldn't have been happier. The waitress was beyond kind and helpful, the restaurant was cute and cozy, and the food was AMAZING. I live in Seattle and my mom's in Port Orchard and this was by far the best restaurant we've tried in years. Everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the dressings were homemade- I could almost drink them. Awesome Happy Hour options with delicious food! The avocado fries were delightful. Super creamy inside with great flavor. The spicy mayo dressing was a great compliment as was the blue cheese dressing. The Fish & Chips was amazing! The fries reminded me of McDonalds but elevated. Velvety inside with extra crispy outside and perfect amount of salt. The fish is moist and flaky with a very thin, extra crispy batter. Their tartar is fantastic with lots of pickle goodness! In short Easy to enjoy for drinks and snacks or for a full meal. Short menu executed beautifully, and the bar's right on point. Great indoor & outdoor spaces, plenty of TVs, amazing parking by downtown Edmonds standards. In long The Bowl has more and more good places to go out the last 10-15 years, and this makes the lineup more or less complete. It's a casual hangout where you can relax, but there's nothing missing from the bar or the kitchen. 5th is sort of the main drag down into the Bowl, at least coming from the south (and not heading for the ferry). Off Main is right across from a huge public parking lot, with decent street parking available, too. It's a couple blocks from most of the hustle and bustle (such as it is), so you'll almost certainly score parking. There's a huge semi-covered patio out front, which must be fantastic in nice weather. Inside, there's a nice open dining room, and three steps up there's a friendly lounge. It's all airy, with pitched ceilings and exposed ceiling joists giving it kind of a lodge vibe. Blond wood floors, darker trim higher up. It feels modern and pleasant without hitting you over the head with any one style. There are flat screens everywhere, probably showing the game, and at the moment there's holiday decor up here and there. Feels homey. The menu is kinda short, and kinda focused on old favorites. If you're craving something super unusual with unexpected seasonings, this is probably not the spot for your next meal. But they've put together their menu really intelligently, with most ingredients showing up in more than one dish, and few-enough things that the kitchen can nail every plate every night. Naked Wings You get a couple drums and about 15 flats. The smoke comes through more on the drums, since they need to be cooked longer. Tender, cooked perfectly so they stay juicy. Kind of a vinegary Frank's tang to the sauce. Some sliced veg, a little ranch, a little blue cheese. Good stuff. Caesar House-made dressing! Dig that. You can add 3 different proteins. I had the plain. Plenty of dry salty cheese, just enough croutons, lots of fresh romaine. Not overdressed at all, but good flavor coming through from the dressing. Tasty salad for sure, but might be more satisfying with protein added next time. Blue Cheese Fries Add the steak. You'd be crazy not to add the steak. Nice shoestring fries with good crispy outsides and nice fluffy insides. Perfectly-balanced cheese sauce that never clumps or breaks. You want to finish these before they cool off, but even the late bites still have a nice clingy sauce on the fries--no puddles, no globs. The steak is cooked exactly how you order it, with a little seasoning, and the whole effect is like the perfect midpoint between poutine and steak frites. Pretzel Beautiful soft, hot, absolutely legit pretzel. Fluffy and chewy. Plenty of rock salt. The cheese dip is balanced and flavorful. You can easily fill up on bar snacks here, and the entrees will be fantastic for a full dinner, judging by how good every single app was. The beer and wine lists are all very thoughtfully chosen. Good taps, good bottles and cans, and nice wine options. About 30 choices total, many local, all good on their own or with food. A few industrial breweries represented for those who stick with the old-school domestics. But the cocktails are where it's at. Not super boozy, but perfectly executed. Spicy Strawberry Margarita Not too spicy, nor too sweet, but all balanced with a nice tartness that lets you know it's still a rita. Bee's Knees I know this is an old cocktail...isn't it? Smallish portion with toasted spice floating. A little tart, a little dank, a little Christmas baking spice to it. Nothing going too far in any one direction. 5th & Howell Old Fashion Big ice cube, nice cinnamon and toasted vanilla notes getting you in the mood for the holidays. Prices here are fair, and they seem to have a few regulars knocking around in the lounge, along with plenty of locals streaming in to check out the new. Our server was a charming, lovely human who always found sidework to fill the lulls, alwas eith a smile. That's such a good sign. This feels like it's already a regular stop for us, even though it's 20+ minutes away each way. Lots of places have tried to throw around the idea that they offer comfort food with a twist, or elevated pub grub. Those phrases have been used so much that they almost mean nothing anymore. The service was terrible and we experienced a long wait and no one ever checked in on us. More importantly though, I ordered the steak, medium. It took forever for our food to arrive. When it did, the steak had been seared on the outside and then left to rest for a long time. It was room temp at best by the time it came to the table. They put a completely frozen circle of butter on top, which was hard as a rock and was like a little hockey puck of butter. It did not melt AT ALL because it was literally directly from the freezer, and placed on a cold piece of meat. When I cut into the steak it was quite rare on the inside. The underdone steak honestly wasn't that surprising and happens at plenty of places but I could not believe they let it cool to room temperature and then placed a completely frozen butter on top. The inside is very pleasant. The food is NOT good. Ordered the shrimp cocktail and the 4 shrimps were so limp and watery. Was not able to eat the shrimp after the 1st limp and watery one. Server didnt even asked if there was something wrong with it even though he saw the 3 shrimps left. Ordered a hamburger a couple of months ago and it was so rare. They didnt ask how I wanted it cook. I dont see anyone walking out there with left over boxes.... It's to bad, their menu looks amazing but the food doesn't match it. read more

We'd arrived at the tail end of happy hour so we ordered drinks and food and enjoyed the improvements to the interior while we waited. My margarita was spot on and surprisingly not full of the overly sweet taste you get from almost anywhere else. Our food arrived and there was no salt or pepper needed, the seasoning was just right. I had meatloaf and it was tasty and the vegetables still had some crunch. The fella ordered a BLTA (with avocado) and it arrived layered between slices of focaccia bread with plenty of bacon and neatly done fries that stayed crisp. The staff were friendly and didn't mind chatting as it was a little slow when we came in.
