Food options were limited although the brie, fig jam, and rosemary crackers (cheesemongers cheese & salami plate) was a good palate cleanser. Tried several cocktails and a flight of 4 spirits. We did a choose your own adventure flight of four and a cocktail each after. The barrel aged gin was our favorite, but the aquavit was also really good. even my husband who hates gin loved it so much that he ordered the old fashioned cocktail after the flight because it is made it with it. I first learned about Scratch Distillery in Edmonds when they hosted an onsite Yelp event (11/18/18) where I was introduced to flights of their liquor line. They share the same building as The Cascadia Art Museum and 190 Sunset restaurant and bar, proximate to the Edmonds Ferry Terminal. The tasting room was very nice with a main wrap around counter, as well as, additional seating around the corner. Their product line and the production area are prominently visible. The folks that own and run Scratch Distillery clearly have a lot of pride, passion, and attention to detail when they provided an overview tour and tasting onsite. Great flights and crafted cocktails. Staff were able to answer questions from the more experienced, to absolute newbies like myself. I ended up buying some gin which was later gifted to my brother. The next visit (3/7/20) I was a bit late (my fault, they did send a timely email) and missed the initial barrel of whisky that was bottled. However, the kind person at the tasting counter allowed me a tasting. I ended up paying for the next bottling which I picked up on 3/21/20 right at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown. My most recent visit was to support their business pivot to make 1 Liter glass bottles of hand sanitizer, which I picked up on 4/5/20. I still haven't opened it yet, but it is good to know I have a resource at home since I had no luck during the Purell hand sanitizer, Lysol spray, Clorox wipes, and toilet paper insane frenzy at the height of the pandemic hoarding (ahem stockpiling). I hope they are able to resume operations when the Covid-19 city and state restrictions are lifted. Great folks and good to have a production site and tasting room in the northend. read more

These guys have been on my list for years now. Friends who live an hour away have tried it, and I hadn't. Tons of local friends rave about it. There was even a YEE up here a couple weeks ago, further reminding me that I am behind on the local spirits train. We finally got lively enough yesterday to stop by here after lunch. We had to squeeze our visit in between other activities, but even an artificially-shortened visit was enough to get us flipping over what's on offer. It's one of the many cool food/drink spaces in the big shell on Sunset. Short, shallow concrete steps walking up, then several different spaces warrened together once you're inside. Everything is welcoming and spotless, and all cleanable: all wood, glass, and other hard materials. It's stylish and easy to enjoy. We tried flights of 3 vodkas, 4 gins, a liqueur, and a whiskey. We joined the bottle club on the spot, which got us tastes of 2 more liqueurs and another whiskey. In related news, for the rest of my life, I may never remember how to spell "liqueur" for any longer than maybe 10 seconds. The flights are wonderfully cheap--$10 to try 4 vodkas, 1/2-ounce pours each. Most are flavored already with ingredients from all over the culinary spectrum--sweet, savory, etc. We loved the mint, citrus, and three-tea vodkas, buying a bottle of the latter. They bring a shot of tonic water to blend with the shots as you go, to your own ratio. You immediately get all kinds of ideas for mixing these with flavored bubbly waters and other ingredients, turning them into endless varieties of vodka sodas. They make cocktails on site and also suggest tons of recipes for mixing drinks with their different spirits. It's all a big Lego set for your liver. The gins were so good, and came with tonic water to blend to taste. Both the martini-style and G&T-style had tons of big aromatics and really had a savory quench to them, not the sandy hollow feel you sometimes get after a sip of gin. The barrel-infused gin was even more interesting, and would be fine as a neat sipper (that's so cool to find in a distillery with such a clear mix & cocktail focus). The chai liqueur was like a special holiday treat--it doesn't sound like the sugariest spirit on the market (not even close), but it had a special dessert treat quality without a doubt. The holiday gin was kinda ho-hum for me, with the holiday spices seeming to cancel out the botanicals and leaving a pretty tight and neutral flavor profile. The whiskey was clean and didn't show any burn, but it's still young and so far isn't sporting a flashy barrel quality. The port-cask version that came out with the club-member tastes showed more barrel, and a clear port quality too. There was also a lemongrass-ginger liqueur, along with a mint-chocolate pour. Both were amazing dessert-drink candidates, though by no means were they overly sweet. The lemongrass one would blend well into a tall summer cocktail, and the mint/cacao would turn into a cool wintry pour with a heavier body. And you could probably do 50 different other things with each of them. The staff were super welcoming and open, telling us all kinds of stuff about how they make the spirits and all the other cool stuff that they do. They clearly have built on their success, with tons of swag for sale and lots of custom-branded stuff for them. Their branding is really appealing, too. We came home with two new bottles and will pick up the club release in about month. This feels like a great way to put a couple fancier clear spirits on the bar at home every so often. read more

Scratch G&T Gin has been one of the absolute best finds - and the distillery is right here at my back door. The distillery itself is run by a flavor mad-scientist with an impeccable sense of style. So get over there, order some snackies and try a cocktail. I will always be there for the gins - but for non-gin drinkers, its a pretty spectacular playground as well. If you want to be sure you have a spot - make a reservation, but definitely drop in and check out the spot it's full of surprises. read more

We have been back, but in these Covid times we just purchase a bottle or two of what we like. Lately, we have discovered Nakita vodka from the Ukraine. Tastes more like him to me and that's fine because I order gin to most vodkas. Also, have tried a German gin called Monkey and a Scottish gin called Rock Rose - it comes in a crock growler of all things. I'm telling you these things because Scratch Martini style gin is as good as these rare and expensive imports! IMHO. I like all three but I will wager that the Scratch bottle is the first one to empty! read more

Loved it here. Entered unexpectedly - our planned stop was the Cascadia Art Museum, which shares an inner corridor with Scratch. I was happy that they had a couple of potato-based vodkas, since I am gluten-free due to a medical condition and cannot drink anything wheat-or-barley-based. Several of their drinks are made with delightful fresh herbs/botanicals. Some of their drinks feel almost like a combination of a loose-leaf herbal tea and spirits! Pretty great! My husband and I each got the 4-drink tasting experience. However, because they only had 2 potato-based drink options available, they kindly gave me a 2-drink tasting experience for half-price instead! Very impressed by the chill, welcoming, thoughtful service from the bartender. I loved the potato-based Underground Aquavit, which is aged in oak barrels and infused with caraway and dill. The bartender said it really "pops" in your mouth, and it really does! We bought a bottle of it. If you buy a bottle of anything, they subtract the cost of one of your tasting experiences from your total bill, which is thoughtful of them. The interior was absolutely beautiful! Bright, cheerful, and super-clean, with fun, quirky touches. Lots of lime-ish greens, woods, and royal blues. I don't drink very often, but I'd love to return to this place, and I would highly recommend going and experiencing it yourself. I haven't been to a ton of bars, but even I know that this place provides a truly unique and special experience and truly unique and special products. For a few places I sometimes have debated between giving 4 or 5 stars, but not for this place - absolutely a 5-star business, no doubt about it. read more

Now let's get to the byproduct of love, creativity and passion. That is Gin, Vodka and Whisky. Creativity, knowledge, distinctiveness and dedication could be sipped through every drop of every drink. Starting with Sage Gimlet was probably a clue to how the evening was going to unfold. Scratch Vodka was phenomenal. I settle for Gray Goose or Stolis when I do not have Polish Pravda. You know what I am talking about. Haven't have Pravda. Look for one. Most bars don't carry. My Polish friend Bob brought half a bottle for dinner one evening. Potato vodka was great. But nothing could top of scratch for the evening. The best was yet to come. Signature scratch Whisky. The best. This is not just because of Yelp Elite event. It's truly terrific. Must visit and try the spirits and hospitality. Interior design concept and graphic design application are well thought out and coordinated with a consistent theme that's part of the story. What a cool distillery! I noticed it as I was driving down to the waterfront for brunch at Arnie's one rainy Sunday morning and had to go back after brunch to see what it was all about. The green and white theme colors of this place are really eye-catching and welcoming. I loved the open-layout feel of the place, and the sight of the gorgeous copper stills in the background. They look like a brass band of instruments upright and waiting to be played back there! Truly a stunning sight! As for the gin and vodka, they are crisp, refreshing, and delightful! I had one of their specialty drinks and sipped it while having a nice chat with one of the employees. She explained that their gin is a little different in flavor - more woody - than others since they get their juniper from Eastern Europe. If this place was nice on a dreary day, I can't imagine how beautiful it will be on a lovely day! Too bad you can't take drinks out onto the nice patio - my only suggestion would be to enclose that area and put some tables and chairs out there! read more

All of their infused spirits are made with actual herbs/spices/fruits/etc., no flavorings. Bummer that WA state liquor laws only allows them to pour only 2oz of alcohol per person. We loved our visit to Scratch distillery. The space is adorable. It is unlike any other distillery I have been too. It is quaint, charming, and inviting. The staff warmly welcomed us to a seat at the bar. There is also a neat hang out area with comfortable seating around the corner. You can peer into the production facility from the tasting area and see their impressive 16 plate column still handmade in Germany by Kothe Distilling. Scratch Distillery is owned by husband and wife team, Kim and Bryan Lenhardt. Kim is involved in every step of the process as head distiller, to front of the house management. Gin is their passion, but they also have vodkas, and specialty spirits on the menu. They use a gin basket to vapor infuse botanicals into their gins and flavoring for their vodkas. They are focused on small batch brewing. Their gin is wheat based, and they have a non GMO potato and wheat based vodka. They also have a grape based vodka. On Saturday's and Sunday they offer a tour at 1:30 and 3:30pm and that includes a tasting for $20. Otherwise, you can enjoy a tasting or 2 cocktails. Based on WA law, they can serve only a certain amount of liquor per person. The tastings are $10 for 4 - 1/2 oz pours. Just select which 4 items from the menu you would like to taste. One tasting fee waived with a bottle purchase. Their cocktails rotate seasonally and they are $7.50 per drink. My friend and I each did a tasting and chose 4 different options, and sampled each others. Everything was smooth, easy to drink and full of flavor. Quality spirits. I can see why they have already started to win awards even though they have only been open a short time. What I loved is that Kim thought not only about how the spirit tastes now, but how it would mix within cocktails. Not many distillers have that forethought in the creation process. We had the pleasure of having Kim walk us through our tasting. Wow, did I learn a lot! Kim is incredibly knowledgeable, and her passion is contagious. The most unique and stand out option I tasted was the barrel aged gin. I had to take a bottle of that home. I will definitely be back here upon return visits to WA state. They also have these awesome Giniology classes you can sign up for with a group. In the course you learn about Gin, and get to create your very own gin from scratch!
