Il Viale is the #1 cafe in Edmonds and probably one of the top cafes I've ever visited in the country. From the upscale look to the friendly neighborhood, it's truly an experience that can't be missed if you're in Edmonds. The shakerato and the neko drinks are our usual orders for a very classy upgrade from the usual orders elsewhere, but every beverage is well made by a staff that's always friendly and engaged with everyone from locals to visitors. If you need a morning pastry come early as they have great choices like the rye chocolate chip cookie or their delicious biscottis. The paninis are great for a light lunch with friends. The indoor ambiance makes for a great coffee date, and plenty of outdoor seating for outings with friends with furry companions. You can tell every detail was labored with love to make a one of a kind experience, from the vintage register to the customized tile floor. The owner swings by from time to time so say hi and tell her and the baristas how great this place is! I tell everyone about this place and it's my go-to place for coffee, conversation, and unwinding.

Delicious coffee, lovely service, a pretty space (pretty small inside but plenty of outdoor seating). One of my fave cafes to visit by the Edmonds waterfront.

Awesome little coffee spot with delicious coffee and baked goods. Everyone is so friendly and the decor is so cute. We will stop here every time we're in town.

Impeccably crafted cocktails. Once the sun went down the ambience became so elevated. Moody, dark, and a speakeasy vibe, exactly what I wanted to experience. Went on a Sunday, so there were only a few others grabbing a drink. The bartender was excellent. I can't wait to come back again and again to try all the different cocktails.

Do you want to talk about premium coffee? Do you love barista craftsmanship? Do you hunger for a cozy cafe vibe? Then, good reader, Il Viale is your new temple of the magical Java bean! Nestled on 5th Ave. S. in Edmonds downtown near Ace Hardware, and buddy-buddy with the new Bar Americano, this elegant even, dare I write, romantic postage stamp-sized espresso bar comes from the fine folks who graced Edmonds with the wonderful Daphne's Bar on Main St. Il Viale's friendly, passionate staff offer a short menu of espresso drinks (reminding me of the cafe's in Florence, Italy) allowing you to choose between whole, non-fat, or oat milk. Hot chocolate is available for your little ones. Speaking of chocolate, the baristas slip you a square of chocolate with each drink order. As for the pastries, heeeeeere we go. Do you squeak at the mere presence of gluten? Do the spirits of spelt and durum laden in cinnamon rolls scream, "Eat me!" to your horror? You're in luck for Il Viale's pastry pastor has eeeexorciiiiiised the gluten demons on a couple of tasty selections -- thumbprint marionberry jam scones and chocolate muffins! But no fears, my fellow gluten eaters, Il Viale have a fantastic selection of croissants, cookies, and other goodies too! Get married to the ham and cheese croissant or the banana bread. You won't be disappointed! No doubt the pasty pastor can preside at your wedding. Congratulations, btw, I'm sure you two will be very happy. Let's talk about the vibe. You have your delicious coffee and pastry. You're ready to sit down and enjoy. During the summer, check out the outdoor seating. It's wonderful and spacious. During the colder months, or if you prefer that cozy vibe I espoused earlier, a few indoor tables are available. I loved the indoor experience--easy to chat with the baristas and ideal for one-on-one conversations with friends and loved ones. I look forward to many visits to Il Viale!

We were headed to Edmonds today for a walk in the sun, and wanted to get some coffee somewhere that we'd never been. Everything about this place we enjoyed. Great ambience. Excellent customer service! Delicious coffee! My husband had a cappuccino. Our son had a vanilla latte. I had a vanilla latte with 1/4 the sweetener. Mine had the perfect amount of sweetness for my taste. Excellent coffee flavor. Love that they serve the drinks in ceramic mugs. Every drink gets a tasty square of milk chocolate. Great from start to finish. We will be back for sure.

Nice quiet espresso bar in Edmonds. Good service and light food. Panini was very good. They also have Macrina pastries.

The team graciously allowed us to have food and drinks from the coffee side while using this bar side. They were incredibly accommodating and we've swung around for some delicious drinks on occasion as well. It's not something they had hosted before, and yet they knew exactly how to lift some weight off our shoulders. You won't get a getting ready space since it's not really meant for this, but you will get a fantastic team and a great price.

I was told by a bartender (who is not the owner) that I should not return, despite never being disruptive, intoxicated, or in violation of any rules here. The reason given was unrelated to my conduct at this bar and stemmed from a serious personal safety concern involving a drink that I had raised elsewhere about another patron who also frequents this establishment. The interaction left me feeling that it was more important for the other patron to feel comfortable here than it was for me to feel comfortable or welcome. As a woman raising a safety concern, being dismissed and told not to come back rather than having the situation handled neutrally or referred to management was especially upsetting. Rather than addressing the concern professionally, I was told not to return so that someone else would not have to worry about encountering me. Being treated this way -- despite having done nothing wrong at this bar -- felt unfair and unprofessional. I would encourage ownership to review how situations involving customer safety concerns are handled and who has the authority to decide who is welcome

As others mentioned, reservations are unavailable but we luckily got seated right away after getting there around 7PM. The restaurant is quite intimate and bustling, with some outdoor patio seating as well. We decided to go for their Caesar Salad and The Proscuitt of Happiness - Detroit Style pizza. Oh my goodness, the bread on this pizza was so fluffy with the perfect char on the edges. Paired with the proscuitto and balsamic - such a great flavor all around! I also loved that they not only had an extensive menu of fun cocktails, but also of interesting mocktails as well. The two of us easily finished the salad, drinks and pizza, we kept going back and forth about ordering a second pizza (haha!). But more excuse for us to come visit again!

That alone was impressive. We were greeted by Niles himself, juggling phones, seating, and service in a packed room with total calm. The space is small, lively, and runs like a perfectly choreographed dance. Watching the staff move seamlessly was part of the experience. Food highlights: the meatballs with an unbelievable sauce, sizzling cast-iron Brussels sprouts, and the Honey I'm Home pizza, sweet, savory, perfectly balanced, and absolutely craveable. Add excellent cocktails and a bottle of champagne, and it turned into a relaxed, celebratory evening. Service was impeccable, something that matters to me. When I asked Niles about his story, he generously shared, paused to welcome new guests, then returned without missing a beat. That level of attentiveness says everything about the heart behind this place. Just when we thought the night was over, they surprised us with dessert after we'd paid. Thoughtful, warm, and memorable. Outstanding food. Exceptional service. Real Unreasonable hospitality in action. We'll be back, and you should go.

We did not actually come to eat because we had dinner reservations a few hours later, but we did want something small to nosh on. The menu options actually sounded pretty tasty. We only ordered the fried pickles as we didn't want anything heavy. The pickles were tasty, but they needed maybe 1 more minute in the fryer. The inside of the batter was just a tiny bit undercooked. But we still gobbled them up. Aside from that, I was slightly disappointed that they didn't actually have a lot of "tiki" styled drinks on their signature drink menu. I was expecting it to be a whole theme. It really wasn't. I think that's a missed opportunity for sure. I would really lean into that theme, since it's your name and decor. The hubby ordered the Tom Tai. It started out kinda tasty on top, but whatever alcohol was at the bottom of the glass (which was the only time I actually tried a sip) was just god awful. Have no clue what it was but it was like turpentine. Not a balance cocktail, but maybe just putting it in a shaker to mix it might have helped. Whatever alcohol was on the bottom of the drink was not good at all. Staff was friendly. Lots of tv's to watch sports. We "might" come back to give it another try based on what the menu sounded like next time we are in the area.
