Beef Gyro with a side chowder
    Carol C.

What drew me in was their vast menu and location. There is something for everyone here from pasta, burgers, salads, seafood and gyros. Hubby and I ordered the 3 piece cod & chips and subbed tots, and the beef gyro sandwich with clam chowder as my side. The things we took notice were the clam chowder was loaded with clams and was tasty, which we enjoyed. Also, the tots were extra crispy just the way I like them! The entrees were good. This is a great neighborhood restaurant located in Perrinville with decent food for every palate. There was a mix-up with our check, which our server corrected immediately.

Interior has nice aesthetics and fair lighting. Service was pretty good. Food was alright. Their name implies seafood would be fresh while our shrimp and salmon were not. Both were 'fishy' and texture was seemed over cooked/previously frozen. Crab and shrimp dip was ok, not very much seafood and a lot of cream. Would've been better with crunchy pita chips or bagel crisps than soft pita. Favorite was the salt & pepper calamari which had a light breading and calamari was tender.

Walking into this place it has more of a bar feel than restaurant though there are separate areas. The outside looks kinda neat, but upon walking in it doesn't fit the outside in my opinion. We went there for dinner with the parents just to try a new place. The server we had was quick to the table but that tapered off. I ordered the seafood Diablo which came with quite a bit of seafood. I was pleasantly surprised. Though the Diablo was certainly missing, it was more of seafood in tomato soup. My wife ordered artichoke chicken with a Greek salad. She said it was alright, except for the fact that the salad was served on the same plate as the warm chicken. Usually salads are separated from hot food. My parents both got a deep fried offering from the menu. My mom got the prawns(6 large ones) and my dad got the deep fried platter. Both were satisfied with their choices as they both got quite a bit of food. We finished it off with beignets, which everyone enjoyed. Like I said the server was very distant and we had to ask for water, napkins etc. There is quite a large menu, and as the food was not too bad but just lacking in a couple areas we will be back to give this place another shot. Hopefully it was just an off day...

My wife enjoyed her wine and salmon. I had the swordfish. Both were good. The potatoes and veggies were well prepared. Service was great. Casual and comfortable environment.

The last few times I had dined at the hook, the food was good. However this last time it was not. This is a cautionary tale not to order the halibut and chips. For the price they charge. I expected the fish to be fresh, which it was clearly not. I have never seen halibut that thin in my entire life. I believe I paid twenty eight dollars and change for the meal and had better halibut and chips at a drive through burger joint, where I paid sixteen dollars. Not just a little bitter, but far superior which is quite a shame. I took 2 bites and chucked the whole meal.

This place was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint! It was a busy Saturday night, but we got seated right away so that was a plus. The interior was a mix between a restaurant and sports bar with lots of seating. We shared the honey sriracha brussel sprouts, small greek salad, gyro, alfredo linguine, and strawberry italian soda. The portions were huge, especially my alfredo linguine... so I ended up taking leftovers home. I loved how cheesy the pasta was. Our server was very friendly throughout the night and always checked up on us. He also comped our dessert because our food took a while to come out so we really appreciated that! I would definitely come back again :)

Restaurant wasn't crowded when I arrived and I was seated quickly. Server was nice but it did take a while for me to get the check at the end of dinner. Salmon corn chowder - this was okay. I've had better for this area. There was a good amount of salmon in there. The Hook Platter - sampler of 2 fried oysters, 2 fried shrimp, and one piece each of fried halibut, cod, salmon. The oysters were the best (should have just ordered that by itself). Then the jumbo prawns and cod were good. The halibut and salmon were too dry. I don't think they are good deep fried (especially fry salmon). I ordered their fruity punch. Too tangy and not enough bubbles.

Crab Melt lunch special with chowder!

I finally made it to The Hook after meaning to go for a long time. I can definitely say I will be back! I had the Crab Melt lunch special with chowder, which admittedly is not the most aesthetically pleasing dish. But what counts is taste & it was great! Their chowder is nice and I'm hoping to drop in when the Manhattan Stew is on the menu. Excellent service & nice clean space. Go there!

We ordered an abundant spread, and every dish impressed. The clear crowd favorite was the Singapore black pepper prawns - fragrant, perfectly spiced, and completely addictive. That black pepper sauce was hands down the star of the meal: rich, peppery, and deeply flavorful. It was my favorite and could easily be eaten on everything. The Mala curry crab and XO crab were both outstanding; layered with complex, indulgent flavors. The Thai green chili clams and saus mentega clams were vibrant and comforting, while the crab fried rice had generous morsels of crab folded throughout the dish. We also really enjoyed the Indonesian chicken wings, which were crispy and flavorful, and the stir-fried vegetables, which added a fresh, well-balanced contrast to the seafood-heavy menu. Everything traveled well, was thoughtfully prepared, and made for an unforgettable catered meal. If you're considering catering from Marimakan Crabhouse, I can't recommend it highly enough. Get the black pepper sauce! Amazing from start to finish, and Chef V or Rachel is lovely to work with.

Their stock is either a nicer version or it's something that's unavailable elsewhere. You do pay for quality like this on some of the stuff, but if you're cooking a meal you're really looking forward to, the value makes it reasonable. Not everything is expensive, either. They had fresh lemons on the case for 40% less than the supermarket up the street. They had reds, whites, bubblies, and pinks in the wine section with every bottle under $20. And those fish dips, man. I'm surprised they don't sell out by afternoon every day. We had wild salmon and black cod dips before dinner last night, and both were fantastic.
