Great cocktails! Drinks are definitely on the pricier side but tasty. The vibes are nice. Like an elevated rustic lodge. To be fair, we only got the loaded fires for food. So I think I need to order an entree for a true thorough food review. From what we saw, portions are small for the price. Fries were okay. Pickled serranos were very yummy and packed a good punch. Can't really review the pork because there was barely any. The popcorn served at the bar was delicious, a good curry seasoning. In short An excellent watering hole with great food and a great bar. In long You talk to the locals and it sounds like the new owners must have had to pour hundreds of hours into renovating this building--it's been here a while, and wasn't always this nice. As it stands right now, you still wouldn't guess how cool the inside is by looking at the outside. Just a little parking lot and a plain building next to a gas station. Inside, though, it's fun even before it gets packed, and it will probably get packed in a second if it isn't already. Big selection of spirits behind a medium-sized bar when you walk in, then a couple dining rooms off to the other side. In nice weather they open the big patio out back and you will not find parking, so just rideshare in and out. There's lots of dark wood everywhere, a few tables and chairs, some high banquette seating. It's a fun mishmash. Big beams cross the ceiling, which is a nostalgic touch if you've lived in the PNW a long time--lots of homes used to have that ceiling style. You can see online they're offering a bunch of dishes not everyone else has, and a bunch of drinks that are house creations, too. If you like LJ's (which is nearby and has the same owners), you're not surprised to find they had lots more ideas to put into effect with this place, but the vibe here is much more of a hangout where you come as you are. They had a nice mix of 80s-10s tunes going, and a couple small flat screens tuned to the ballgame. Between 4 of us, we tried half the menu: Cauliflower tempura Nice addition for the veg eaters. Pretty mildly seasoned and the sauce was understated as well. Great texture but less cravable than the other stuff we ordered. Fish & chips The HH portion is almost comically small, even the fries are tiny scraps. But it gives you plenty of bites. The fish is as close to perfect as you can get; moist whitefish with a nice crisp batter (no beery bitterness to it, either!). This will be worth ordering a full portion. Pot pie Rich and hearty. Dense crust that holds together with a stewy filling but then it melts in your mouth. Filling has great seasoning, super homey and comforting. Mashed potatoes were really sopped up the runaway filling. Kale salad Big hit across the table. Nobody else got bites. Pines burger The hand-cut fries are done perfectly; just the right amount of chew, lots of fresh flavor that actually still tastes like a potato. Nobody else got bites of that burger, either, but every protein on this menu comes out cooked correctly. Looked beautiful. Mushroom soup This was irresistible as soon as I saw it on the menu. Flavors are good, portion is nice. Salt content is high. Much as I love finding this (even the places that love making it don't leave it on the menu permanently, seems like), I wish they'd consider roasting off some mushrooms (maybe pureeing those) to bump up the flavor, rather than goosing it with salt. Chicken wings Man, these come out piping hot. You wait a couple minutes, bite once, wait a couple more minutes. Steaming still after 5 minutes, perfectly juicy. This kitchen knows what's up! Garam masala rub on the outside. They smell *incredible*, which makes it tough to wait until they cool down enough to eat. So good. High in the running for best wings I've had in years. Deviled eggs Big flavors, little kick of heat to the seasonings. Delectable. Super soft and airy yolk mixture, perfectly-cooked whites. They come out with a tasty little green salad, which was a nice change of pace. Drinks We had 4 or 5 custom cocktails between us, sometimes a tiny bit on the sweet side but every single one is something we would happily drive back out to Lake to repeat. They have taps and I think a couple wines as well. Dessert Chocolate cake and almond tart were both beautifully presented, with great flavors. I could go for a little more moisture in my desserts but these satisfy if you're in the mood for something sweet after the meal. They're not going to be what makes me want to drive out here again, but I'd order them again once we got here. Super friendly and well-versed staff who fluidly rotated through for orders and always made each table visit a fun chat. My rating is mostly based on my Happy Hour experience, lack of response from anyone, and the parking. I reached out to the restaurant but did not get a response. We went during Happy Hour and it was still very expensive ( 2 small flights and fish tacos cost $75 before tip). There were no prices posted and when asked we did not get any answers. Another issue was the inconsistency with the fish inside the tacos. My 3 tacos had barely any fish inside. It was mostly toppings. However, the table in front of us had fish tacos with huge pieces inside. The fish pieces were so big they hung off the sides of their tacos and they could barely bite them. My table mate had one taco with huge piece inside and the other two were small like mine. We felt ripped off as we were left wanting more. The parking is not good at all. There are only a few places to park. It is dark inside. There isn't a lot of seating but enough for 30 or so to sit comfortably at the bar or table. Outside seating is fine. They do a good job of shielding their guests from the noise and sights of the parking lot, shopping center and road. I have eaten here many many times. My favorite item is the wings. I haven't found a dessert I like from here but their sister restaurant used to serve an AMAZING carrot cake. I have seen their bartenders in action and they come up with some delicious drinks that are served in creative ways. The complimentary bowl of popcorn is also good. Very nice ambience! Went on a Thursday evening for some drinks and food and got a table for two easily (maybe around 6ish PM). They have quite some appetizers on the menu which we made tried and all were good! A nice beer to go with the appetizers. There was only one parking lot left when we reached. Not sure if they have any other parking, but the front didnt have many spots. So pls plan accordingly. Coming to the main course, we were charged extra $4 for swapping fries with mashed potatoes when we ordered steak. It was delicious, although serving size was quite small. Didn't realize it came with this bread, but it was delicious. It had some sort of French onion tasting spread. The burger was amazing, very flavorful. I chose the salad to get some greens in. But it could use some work for sure. It tasted similar to eating raw broccoli. Maybe they could add some cheese or sautéed onions to balance it out? We were at the bar and our server was super nice. They kept her super busy, so they must be short staffed as she was taking bar tables and tables on the floor. We felt like it was hard to ask for water or other things we needed because no one was coming around to our area of the bar. There was one guy doing drinks, but he was only doing that and we were unable to get his attention either. Will I come back? Maybe. Probably won't be my first choice as the food is a little pricey for the serving sizes you get. Decent experience overall. read more

We've been here a few times and always have great food and service! We went again a couple of days ago and I had the brisket burger with bacon and it was big and delicious. My wife ordered the fried chicken special, which came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The portion was big, and it was also delicious. They have a nice outdoor patio seating area, and while the inside is nice, it always feels like walking into a cave because it's so dark inside. Confession time. I met my husband at this location when it was LJs. This spot holds sentimental value for me. That being said, I don't imagine we will be back. We stopped on a Saturday night and ordered a Ploughman's Plate, and Mussels with two cocktails. He ordered a "Let's get Fizzical" and I ordered a dirty Gin Martini. They use a beautiful purple gin. It's pretty but not delicious. The plate had very odd pairings. Hammock with big pieces of fat and two cheese selections along with a pickle relish and cranberry chutney. Since I don't eat carbohydrates (Go Keto) I skipped the bread. Meh. The mussels... I should preface by saying that I don't love mussels. But these... Had a strange smell and we're so incredibly salty that I couldn't finish them. There were huge grains of salt at the bottom of the bowl of sauce which made the sauce almost inedible. I don't drink but was able to get a quality NA while my GF got a couple of really good local IPAs on tap. Wow! For some reason expected a diner kind of place and when I walked in was amazed at the ambiance and mood. Dark and small in all the best ways. Super casual and classy at the same time. Dark green walls and cool decor with awesome light fixtures. And the food? AMAZING!!! I got the brisket sandwich and was shocked at how great it was. The fries are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. The tartar sauce even surprised me with how good it was. Second time sitting down to try some food here. The service is always good and the atmosphere is nice but a bit dark inside. I'd tried to wings before and had those again, they are good but hard to eat gracefully since they are full wings. I had been wanting to try the scotch egg which was really good. The other person in my party ordered the chowder and cauliflower and both were good. The prices are in line with everywhere else. I know it's supposed to be a pub style experience but I do wish there were more non fried, healthy options on the menu. I do want to try the fish and chips or pulled pork sandwich next. Our 1st visit to the new "The Pines" was spur of the moment. We did the outdoor seating since weather is still nice and Covid reasons. We sat at their most popular outdoor table that has a propane fire piece in the center. Our server was excellent, friendly, informative and accommodating. Sangria has good juicy refreshing flavor. Old fashion was very good, and wouldn't mind looking for the Redwood Whiskey they use. Loved their season popcorn so much we ordered 4 of them. I've been wanting to try The Pines for a LONG time and finally had the opportunity. Were we in for a treat! Sat down and ordered a round of drinks and it was still pretty early in the evening and we learned there would be karaoke on the patio as well as a costume contest! PERFECT! I'm always up for some people watching and karaoke (you don't want to hear me sing but I will cheer everyone on!!). My friends and I are already stalking social media to find out the next time karaoke (or ANY fun patio event!) is on. At first I didn't think the pot pie was enough food but after eating the plate I was definitely satisfied! The staff were very kind and the wait wasn't long. -Creative cocktails Cons: -SALT. All the food we had was sooo salty. I felt like I was doing bad things to my health while I was eating. The popcorn, the loaded fries, the regular fries and the Bangers n Mash were too salty, in my opinion. I feel like salt is kind of a cop out for flavor. If your food is rich in flavor, you don't need much salt. Again, just my opinion.
