Underwhelming brunch. Service was good but food was decidedly 'meh'. Had high hopes for a tasty Valentine's Day brunch and left disappointed. As said the service was fine but the food - hearth roasted mushroom frittata and breakfast burrito - was decidedly bland and under seasoned. Frittata was covered with an excessive mound of arugula. While peppery, it's asking a lot of arugula to carry/cover for a bland unseasoned water bath baked egg concoction with minimal caramelized onions and flavorless mushrooms. Desperately needs some herbs, garlic or strong cheese, some crisp edges... something. A side of chicken apple sausage was just okay. Breakfast burrito was disappointing in its own ways. Tortilla was gelatinously clinging together as if it had been prepared in advance, then reheated, and covered in what was called salsa but was more akin to basic excessively mild tomato enchilada sauce. The carnitas pork was unseasoned and dry. Potatoes were soft and lacking a crisp element that would have helped immensely. The only place salt seemed to show up was in the salted maple latte and in that it was a bit heavy. Likely not stopping back anytime soon. read more

The setting is beautiful but that's about the only thing I can recommend from our lunch. The service was nonexistent. Our server was nice but she disappeared for over 20 min after we were seated and we had to ask 3 different people to please take our order. The hostess finally did. We were not brought a wine list and I finally started looking through their wine cabinet. That finally got everyone's attention but all in all, It took a half hour to order our wine. The server couldn't find the wine and then poured the wine initially but never came back to refill our wine or water glasses. The food was not any better. The Dry Tonkotsu Udon with prawns was tasteless and the portion was appetizer small. Two of us had the Loco Moco which was also really poor. The sausage was rubbery and it and the egg was cold and the whole dish was devoid of flavor and the portion meager. Shocking for a $200 meal. I wrote a letter to complain. One person called to apologize and said his boss would contact me. Allesandro, the Director of Food and Beverage emailed me to apologize and since we are from out of town I asked for a refund as I dont know when we will be back in Seattle. No response. I followed up with 2 more emails. No response. I called and after I said hello and introduced myself he hung up on me! The incompetence and disrespectful behavior is shocking. Stay away! I am not sure what I was expecting from Cedar and Elm apart from a satisfying meal to have while I stayed at The Lodge. When I went in for dinner the restaurant was virtually dead. Which normally isn't a great sign, even for a Thursday. I was sat promptly and immediately had a waitress at my table. I felt very rushed and the odd thing was the waitress would ask me a question, but not even give me a moment to respond. I wound up getting the small gnudi for dinner. It was $24 and had 6 pieces of gnudi. I was kind of surprised that the fish didn't come with any bread, but it did taste good and came out hot. Otherwise, I didn't find a ton of things on the menu that appeared very appetizing for the price point. Skipped drinks and dessert due to feeling rushed. Ambiance was fine, it was clear and sparce. This was my second time visiting for brunch. They have tasty seasonal drinks and the menu seems to also change with the season too. Everyone liked their meal. The only disappointing part was my poached egg was over cooked but they did replace it with a perfectly runny one after we said something. This was the best fine dining experience that I've had in some time. Service was outstanding and food was delicious! Flavors were well balanced on most of the dishes. We had a large group of 8. Although this is a large space, we were still able to hear each other. We were started off with complimentary bread that had focaccia like texture and buttery garlicky topping. Served with delicious dipping oil and vinegar and also butter. Most men ordered the pork belly special and everyone loved it. Im told that the grapes and Spicy acidic sauce balanced the dish very well. Pork was crispy on the outside and the acidity of the sauce went well with the fatty bits. Most of the ladies ordered the sablefish including myself. So perfectly cooked, flaky and melts in your mouth. Not too fishy. Under the fish were some yummy little mushrooms and on top was charred cabbage. The only addition that would have made this dish more elevated for me is some crunchy topping. The cabbage crunch was not it. Disclaimer: creme brûlée snob over here! The honey creme brûlée was perfect! Apparently they use their own honey from their backyard. It had a very lovely honey flavor which is not something I ever tried in a creme brûlée. The sugar topping was perfectly thin. And the creme itself was smooth and light in texture....yess, the way it's supposed to be. The only part that didn't make sense was the pickled blueberries. Thankfully they were served separately, easy enough to omit! Second best dessert was the profiterole. I only tried a bite but wow I would definitely return for that. Wow, what a hidden gem tucked away in Kenmore! Our group was easily able to make a reservation for Friday night for a party of 8 within a week. We drove up to free valet parking and stepped into the modern, beautifully decorated, intimate space that is Cedar + Elm. We were promptly seated, and while waiting for the rest of our party to arrive, ordered drinks and perused the menu. We shared a couple orders of the flatbread with the Danish butter and 'dirty dip,' which was like a balsamic vinaigrette. The bread was airy and had some sort of gooey cheese in the middle. The serving size was rather small for the price, two orders was basically enough for each person to have a couple bites, but we subsequently filled up with dinner and dessert. I appreciated the relatively small menu that was pretty much limited to one option of each protein (fish, chicken, beef, pork) and a vegetarian option. Most of us had selected our entrees when our waitress Jillian (who was absolutely lovely) came by to tell us the specials, which included a crispy pork belly that captured the intrigue of nearly all the men at our table I enjoyed the hearth-roasted sablefish with mushrooms and charred cabbage and savored every bite from beginning to end. The fish was flaky, moist, melted in the mouth, and contrasted in texture to the chew of the mushrooms. Salty, creamy, herby, citrusy - this dish had it all. My husband devoured his crispy pork belly, which, to our surprise, was accompanied by some red grapes that sat in a citrusy Asian-inspired fish sauce. Never having encountered such a pairing before, we were pleasantly surprised to find the flavors harmonizing so well together! For dessert, we had a chocolate tart with pistachio and a profiterole with ice cream (I want to say it was a brown butter or almond butter ice cream). Our friends also ordered the honey crème brûlée. We passed around our desserts so everyone could try each, but the favorite among the table was the profiterole. It was "not too sweet," but also had elements of surprise, like bits of sour mango and cherry gelée. Days after our dinner, my friends and I are still raving about our dining experience at Cedar + Elm. We were able to enjoy our meal and each other's company at leisure, without ever once feeling rushed to leave. Wonderful ambiance, very attentive, kind, and delightful service, and delicious food presented beautifully and thoughtfully. It's rare to find such a high quality dining experience without having to drive into the city, and even then, the quality of the service is often lacking. The low rating of Cedar + Elm does not reflect the amazing experience we had for dinner here in 10/2024. The chef trained at a Nordic restaurant in Denmark. The inspiration and precision shows in the complementary but unique flavors of the well-cooked dishes. The flatbread was very rich with flavor soaked into the soft insides of the flatbread, but it was offset by the crispness of the flatbread crust. The salads were both light but very flavorful. The sablefish was cooked perfectly and paired well with the mushroom and cabbage. The mushroom Agnolotti had chewy and firm texture, and the mushroom filling was very tasty. Lastly, the seasonal crème brûlée balanced the sweetness augmented with vanilla bean with the tartness of local blueberries. The service was top notch. The water was always filled. The empty dishes were always removed including the utensils, with new settings for each course. The server was knowledgeable, personable, and punctual. I highly recommend coming here for dinner. It's well worth the $$$ ($100 for 2 apps, 2 mains, and 1 dessert; for 2 people). While the portion sizes aren't like the Cheesecake Factory, it is more than enough food that has an amazing taste, competing by great service. read more

Hands down, it was the best quality food we had all trip -- fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared. We enjoyed breakfast, brunch, and dinner here, and each meal was consistently excellent. You can really taste the difference -- much of the produce comes directly from the chef's on-site garden, which adds a level of freshness that's hard to beat. I had never been to St. Edward's park and knew even less about this restaurant. It has an old charm to it like it should be in a 1920's film. It wasn't very busy on a Sunday night and our server was rather abrupt and lacking interpersonal skills. The food and drinks were decent: 1) kale salad - 3/5. They prearranged your table and set menu for high tea. As soon as the doors open, you are seated at your table where the drinks are already there. There is a menu for some tea selection. The glasses and plates were arranged beautifully. There was a selection of sweet and savory mixed in. Our favorite were the Madelines, crumpets, cookies, scones, and the bacon jam sandwich. Knocked down a star because though there were ample food, we didn't care for the one with the fish pate or mushroom tart. They were potent. The bread of the sandwiches tasted air dried. Not sure how long they've been sitting out. The food can be better. We definitely left quite a few pieces that were not of our liking behind untouched. What I loved about the staff is that they figured out that we were dining (aka a slow table), and they went at our pace. The setting is so serene. Met two friends for dinner yesterday at this newish place. Driving into the state park I was wondering: do I need my Discover Pass to park? Not to worry, follow the signs for valet parking (free, though don't forget to tip your valet). I was early for our reservation so dropped into the adjacent bar where they had happy hour going on. I ordered their HH white wine, which was a tasty Côtes du Rhône white and a good deal at $8. The HH menu looked tasty but I had to wait for our reservation.... Once the first of my friends arrived, we were quickly seated for an early dinner. As we were three, we ended up in this great table that had a love seat for two facing into the dining room. We ended up ordering everything to share which the staff accommodated nicely. Starters were the filet mignon tartar, crab salad and bread; mains included the sablefish and gnudi. All were very well executed and delicious; the seafood dishes were especially good. I was driving so ended up having mocktails with dinner--the Dewberry Drought was tasty. If I had one thing to ding the restaurant on, it'd be that food came out slowly. Not that I ever want to be rushed, but this seemed really slow, especially since the restaurant was not full. However, our server was very attentive and was following up with us frequently to ensure we had what we needed; it was more that the kitchen was a little slow. On top of that, this restaurant charges 'culinary fees'. The lunch menu is much smaller than it used to be. I wish all the food was as good as the brussels sprouts. They were cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Loved their flavor and texture. The beets were too one note and needed more seasoning. The biggest disappointment was the steak salad. The steak was cooked as ordered (med). I would guess it had no seasoning at all. It was sliced and spread over the salad, which I didn't understand as plating until I realized there was nothing else of interest on the plate. A shredded bed of romaine overly dressed with vinaigrette. You could taste nothing else. I think there may have been a couple little pieces of marinated shallot and a couple small, soft pieces of carrot. Not even the tiny sprinkle of blue cheese was enough to bring flavor. Decent brunch spot at St. Edwards, but too expensive to justify going regularly. The dining room is very nice and bright, and I appreciated getting a table by the window to look out over the grounds. I had the pork hash which had nice chunks of pork with lots of veggies, and it tasted pretty good. But the portion size is tiny for $21. My wife had the salmon frittata which came with lots of greens and a delicious potato waffle, and that seemed a better deal for $19. But with the others in our group we had a four person brunch cost over $100 with a few iced teas. Just seems overpriced for what you get. They have valet parking which I think is free for the restaurant, otherwise parking yourself is a challenge as you compete with all the park visitors. read more

First time trying cedar and elm, and absolutely love the vibe! I hadn't realized this restaurant was inside the lodge at st Edward state park until driving there. It's so beautiful as you turn into the lush green park! Parking is a little weird as you need a discover pass or to valet at the hotel, which was a little confusing at first. Valet is complimentary however, and I was glad the guys working accepted venmo for tips as I wasn't prepared. You head inside the hotel and to the right to find the restaurant. They have a cute gift shop and beautiful artwork on display to enjoy. The restaurant decor is adorable... a more upscale feel while also being cozy (love all the plants). They have a nice coffee menu. Tried their eggs Benny for brunch which came on a nice biscuit with an onion jam. Would have liked a little potato or fruit salad, and my poached eggs had water in them, my only complaints. In all, the food was delicious and we enjoyed our visit. Came to Cedar + Elm for brunch with friends this past Saturday. I really liked the whole vibe of the restaurant; light, airy, and low-key glam with friendly and attentive staff. The brunch menu offered the standards with a twist: we ordered benedict lorraine, everything-spiced smoked salmon frittata, & roasted Berkshire pork hash. Everything was cooked perfectly. The poached eggs produced the requisite golden yolks as did the sunny side up eggs on top of the hash. The diced potatoes and squash in the hash were firm but not toothy, and the frittata had a wonderful texture. The overarching issue was that everything was incredibly bland. The hash was badly in need of salt, and according to my friend, the hollandaise was "just there". The frittata was carried by the smoked salmon and seemed to be the winner of the morning. read more
