I really love the place, the park, hotel, territory. After walk to the water and hiking back we got hungry and decided to stop by bar. cedar elm main dining was only per reservation but bar was available. We took 2 sparkling champagne and appetizers. Unfortunately food was very bad. The beef tartare didn't had any spices, meat tasted bland. But worst is that it came on top with mayonnaise this is the worst tartare I ever tried in my life. The presentation of plate look depressing, there were many picked items but it would be better if they would stick to classic tartare. Also salmon flatbread was very bland. We paid $100 for this 2 app and 2 glasses of champagne. Left extremely disappointing because this food is way overpriced. read more

We came to celebrate Mother's Day for brunch. I was not impressed with food at all I ordered the frittata which was obviously made the day before with an almost gelatin consistency:( tasteless The service was good but no one at my table except the cappuccino was liking their food :( I am a local resident and would hope to see some big changes in the food . We had dinner here a few weeks ago and loved the setting of the lodge in St. Edwards Park. The grounds and old seminary are lovely and the restaurant follows suit! While we waited for them to open for dinner we grabbed craft cocktails in the lounge outside which were fantastic and had a pretty solid happy hour. Once they opened the restaurant we were seated right away for our reservation time and got a little booth with a window view. The restaurant is really stunning with its ultra white walls, pops of green, and dramatic lighting. Our server was friendly and helpful when ordering gluten free. They don't have any gf products like bread or pasta, but they can make substitutions to alter menu items to be gf. The husband of mine couldn't resist the crab fritters which he loved and I enjoyed the tomato and burrata salad. For our mains, he had the halibut which was perfectly cooked and I splurged on the scallops which were divine. They only had a couple gf dessert options so we went with the pot de creme but were a little disappointed as it didn't have much flavor even though there were a lot of components. As a whole we had a great time, loved the ambiance, and enjoyed some excellent service. We look forward to dining again read more

This is my favorite place to be! But if I had to choose which day to come it would have to be on a Thursday when professional guitarist Andre Feriante performs live during high tea! No other venue compares to Cedar and Elm in my opinion. The ambience is beautiful and the service is excellent! My husband and I have had high tea on several occasions and brunch. Our hats off to the amazing chef! An added luxury is the art gallery on the walls of the corridor! There is even a gift shop where you can shop for that something special. Cedar and Elm is located at The Lodge inside St. Edward's Park in Kenmore. Nearby is Bastyr University. If you haven't been there yet I highly recommend this excellent establishment. read more

We arrived here for brunch around 10:30am on a Sunday and to my surprise, we were seated immediately, but I recommend calling ahead to make sure about their wait time. According to local yelpers, this is a popular brunch spot on this strip, so I was super happy that we got a table right away. I was confused about the parking lot, but they have a complimentary valet parking in front of hotel round about. From Yelp photos, we chose the house potato and scrambled egg and French toast with berries. I loved their little potatoes. My boyfriend doesn't normally like breakfast potatoes but loved these ones. We also had the breakfast French toast berries which was amazing! It looks like a small portion, but it was super filling. The indoor and outdoor seating are both pretty classy and there is a harp player. I recommend this place to have quiet relaxed breakfast. read more

I was there for the Sunday brunch and had the best smoked salmon sandwich! I often order smoked salmon sandwiches at the various restaurants but I must say, this one was the best one I have ever had. The salmon was a good quality but I think what made it amazing was their bread. It was flaky bread which melts in your mouth! read more

I wandered the lodge that afternoon, but returned for a happy hour reservation at Cedar + Elm, the onsite restaurant on 5/10/21. The Executive Chef is James Beard Award winning chef (2010 Northwest), Jason Wilson. I've enjoyed his culinary style at the former Crush in Seattle. There were lapses because there was a lone wait person covering six separate parties out on the deck, including myself. Decent cocktail and beverage menu. Chilled water carafe with ice water provided with menus upon being seated. I ordered a Confessor's Old Fashioned ($13), glad for a large ice cube since I was seated in direct sunshine. Missing the signature dark cherry, got a rosemary sprig instead. Nice and smooth. From the Happy Hour menu, I tried the following: *Deviled Eggs ($14) with smoked salmon rilettes with fresh dill, capers, atop greens drizzled with evoo. Loved these the best! *Crudo of Washington Albacore Tuna ($17) with cubed spicy cucumber, taggiasca olives, mint, marjoram. Tasty but curious accompanying green sauce. Personal preference was to have much thinly sliced tuna. The slabs were were more sashimi quality or atop a chirashi bowl. *Crisp Fritters of Alaskan Halibut and Potatoes ($16). I was a bit dismayed that support staff took my fork, knife, and saucer that I used with my other dishes. So had to use my fingers and grubbied up my cloth napkin. I view these more like croquettes. The order comes with five fritters, some Kennebec fries, grilled lemon wedge, and a lemon dill and caper remoulade. I ate two, boxed up the rest, which got demolished by The Homie back at home. I spent a leisurely 90 minutes on the deck. Nothing chichi like Seattle's cocktail venues and not sports bar like. Not meant for people watching or boisterous hoopla, observed at least from this visit. Cedar + Elm for happy hour is welcoming, perfect for relaxed gatherings and lively conversation. Tables on the deck are well spaced and my visit had a nice breeze. I did wear my mask though when not actively eating or drinking. Mega splurge for a post Mother's Day happy hour visit, nearly $78 with tax and tip. I look forward to checking other restaurant offerings and compare the ambiance of two other onsite cocktail bars. I feel bad that the reviews are stuck from a previous chef... Chef Kolpin (Top Chef Competitor!) recently took over and I am here to tell you the food is absolutely INCREDIBLE! My husband and I splurge on great food around Seattle often and this was honestly the best meal we have had in over a year, if not longer. We had the flatbread with dirty dip, crab salad, gnudi, pork special, and finished with the Olive oil cake. 2nd time here. I really want this place to succeed, but it's a struggle to see how they'll get repeat local customers.... The prices are on the level of El Gaucho, Sea Star and similar, and the quality of the food is close. Yet, there are no sides available other than what's shown. And they're weird on the menu with your entrée (a small wedge of Romaine with some kind of broccoli on top with an avocado/guacamole sauce next to Wagyu steak?). However, the level of service has the vibe of servers who are in training and don't have someone to help them up their game. The atmosphere is like a dining hall (because it used to be one for the seminary; I get it) but you'd think at this price point they could have staff with a more professional level of attentiveness and a manner which is more than "Have you guys made up your mind yet?" The worst of it is the mandatory 20% service charge for 6 or more for Applebee's service. Actually no, the worst is another 3% for the "behind the scenes" staff. I won't be back. I'm sorry. I had planned to go here one day eventually for brunch because the executive chef here also ran the wonderful Lakehouse in Bellevue and it has a great place in my heart (also my mom when she visits Seattle, also those cocoa pancakes). Luckily for me, I got invited to visited by a dear friend for lunch. I have never been to the park in which the restaurant is located, but it is a pretty place. On the Tuesday we dined, the inside of the restaurant was relatively empty. Though it could be because more people opted for the outdoor dining. We were told in advance about the item which they were out of which was great so just in case it was something I could have been gunning for. To share we got the Alaskan halibut and Dungeness crab crisp fritters. She got an iced tea while I got a non alcoholic drink (it was a Tuesday after all) called the ginger honey & grapefruit jazzmatzz. Those fritters were excellent. Top tier and almost straight out of the fryer. I'm definitely glad we got them and it was enough for the two of us. My drink was definitely jazzy (hence the name). If it was a different day, I might have tried the more extensive alcoholic list. For our entrees I got the wagyu burger with fries while she got the banh mi sandwich. If I hadn't eaten pasta earlier that week, I would have opted for those dishes. My burger was fine though at a point it wasn't fine holding onto the burger as the bun felt like it was getting shredded. I save it for home. Overall I would come back. There are other items for lunch I would try but I am more interested in the offerings of dinner and brunch as they seem more interesting read more

Gourmet breakfast with unique ambience. This former seminary, turned fancy hotel, restaurant, bar, offers an elegant dining experience. The Roasted Berkshire Pork Hash was great with nice smoked pulled pork and perfectly roasted little fingerling potatoes. The Brioche French Toast Bread Pudding was perfectly delicate, light and fluffy. Topped with a wonderful berry infused whipped cream and a side of berry compote. Syrup was not needed, as the flavors already popped nicely. Side of bacon provided a good compliment to the other dishes. Coffee was nice and bold. Latte was masterfully prepared. Brunch at Cedar + Elm and a walk around St. Edwards is one of my favorite ways to spend a free day. Some of our favorites is the french toast, smoked salmon sandwich, and granola parfait. My favorite cocktail from here is the King Louie. I love the interior with the rattan and the green velvet. Something about it makes me happy. I also enjoy talking to Roberto who is one of the servers here. I like hearing about his family and his stories make me feel more connected to this place and the community. read more

I have been to afternoon tea everywhere Washington state offers it. This is the first place I've ever been where you don't actually get to brew your tea. Certainly not a pot. They bring you a small strainer of tea you put on your teacup (???) and then you pour hot water over it. This is... an interesting take on tea. Some places don't give you a pot, but they do give you an infuser of tea, which isn't my favorite but at least the tea gets a chance to brew. The food for afternoon tea is good, but hurried. You can tell that speed and quantity is most important. For the price? Meh. Save up a little more and go to the Fairmont. read more

We had reserved this restaurant for a wedding rehearsal dinner. We were a party of 20 and gave a courtesy call when we were running behind. On getting there the lady on staff who attended to us was extremely rude about seating arrangements even when we asked about adjoining tables (see picture for reference). She insisted that they could not accomodate and sat half of the table in the opposite end of the room. As disappointing as that was, her attitude was rather appalling. We tried to speak to the manager about the seating arrangement and the staff's attitude but did not get a satisfactory response, apology or attempt to accomodate even after we told him we were celebrating a wedding. He said they don't take reservations for large parties so that the kitchen staff can work efficiently (I later found out that the 2 reservations were made at once). This still did not address the fact that half of us were across the room and not even within sight of each other. Very disappointing when all around us were empty tables. This was the case till we left. Many empty tables and opportunities to sit us closer together. Food: I was hoping the food would compensate for the terrible first impression. It took almost an hour for our food to arrive and when it did, no apology for the delay. By the way, the restaurant was not busy and this was a Saturday night. I ordered the halibut and was disappointed by the taste and overall plate for the price. Only the people who got the steak seemed to enjoy it. We were not pleased with our meals and service overall. It is such a shame that a restaurant at such a gorgeous location can provide such horrible service. Hands down my worst restaurant experience. What was supposed to be a lovely family dinner was ruined and we will not forget in a hurry. I DO NOT recommend this place and will never come back. read more

I hate to post two stars but my boyfriend and I tried the afternoon tea service and we were not impressed. Let me start out by saying that I love this restaurant, we've had dinner there before and the food was outstanding. I also want to say that our afternoon tea server was amazing and the ambiance was magical. This review is mainly for the food. The starter drink is some sort of oat milk concoction that has a weird taste/texture. The tea sandwiches were actually tea toast and there wasn't one that we liked. I understand stepping outside of the box and trying new things but it didn't hit the mark on this one. There's a flaxseed raisin crumpet that didn't seem to fit with the menu. A berry scone with clotted cream would've been a better addition. The other desserts seemed thrown together as well. Nothing stood out as super fresh or really tasty. We enjoyed the tea and the champagne. We were disappointed because we were expecting more and for what you pay, it just didn't seem worth it. I've been to a lot of tea services and I think C & E can improve their afternoon tea service menu greatly. If they do, I would give it another try. read more

A beautiful restaurant located on the ground floor of the hotel. There is a patio where you can eat outside and enjoy the view as well. A perfect spot to hit up after strolling around the St. Edwards state park. There is a bar right outside the restaurant where you can also grab drinks. Food The waffle and fried chicken was very good. The waffle was fluffy and the syrup was sweet and complimented it well. The chicken was tender but wasn't super crispy on the outside. I only had a tiny bit of the salmon frittata, but the smoked salmon was delicious. The waffle tasted like potato and was pretty interesting. I wish I ate it with regular ketchup. Atmosphere The interior of the restaurant is nice and upscale. When I went, I think that there was going to be a reception for a wedding. There is a nice view of the St. Edwards state park and field. It's very peaceful. Pricing The prices are about what I would expect for brunch. The quantity was a little bit smaller than what I might get from other places though. Service  The service was mediocre at the bar area. My family was seated at the bar because the regular restaurant seating area was reserved for a large party. I had to get up to the bar for service for anything like ordering or paying. I'm sure the service would've been better if seated in the restaurant. Other Plenty of parking around the hotel and park. There is seating indoors and outdoors. A great spot to swing by after walking around the state park. read more

We had thanksgiving dinner at Cedar + Elm and it was a great experience. It was our first time eating out for Thanksgiving. It was a little pricey, $65/adult but food was amazing and full of flavor. The turkey was one of the best I've ever had. It was fire roasted so the skin was crispy and super flavorful. The turkey was moist and gave plenty. They provided traditional sides but they were cooked to perfection, even my husband liked the cranberries and he usually hates them. Dessert provided was great, we just didn't like the sweet potato pie. It was so bland. The apple crisp was amazing. Overall, I would come here again for Thanksgiving! read more

Tried The new Cedar and Elm at the lodge up next to Bayster University in Kirkland. It's only been open about 4 weeks. All the dishes but one were delicious, but one. That is to be expected as they work out kinks with all the dishes. That one dish that was not good was the card fritters they were either overcooked almost burnt or raw in the middle. For those that either need to lower the temperature of their oil or make this fritter smaller size. Everything else was great in fact they had really delicious sauces with all the dishes. We have the doc the halibut and the wagyu steak with shrimp and grits and grill octopus as appetizers. For dessert we had what I would call the French toast beignets which were amazing, as well as the homemade "chocolate bar". Other adjustments needed are: Their fresh fruit, non-alcoholic drinks. My son and I tried one of each, we each thought they tasted weird; not enjoyable at all. The way they prepare the duck dish. The breast is presented as a massive slab; but It's such a nicer presentation to slice it before plateing; or sear and cook smaller pieces. We have eaten here several times. The food had been adequate. Once Chef Kolpin took over, the food went to an entirely new level. His food is simple and incredibly flavorful. Do not miss the flatbread with dirty dip. It is amazing. The handmade ricotta gnudi are also not to be missed. Service is always wonderful. When we've disclosed that we're coming for a special occasion, they go out of their way to ensure that they recognize the reason we're coming. We celebrated our anniversary there a few weeks ago and we were welcomed with champagne. Our family would highly recommend Cedar + Elm. Very charming place with great ambience. A little bit of an Overlook vibe, but in a good way. Oysters were spectacular! Flatbread is good, get it with the 'dirty dip'. What a great experience. This place is located inside a lodge in Kenmore, WA and absolutely charming. The food was delicious and the service outstanding. We met our friends there and both of us ordered the banana bread to start. So moist and yummy. We all had coffee (both iced and hot) and was was smooth and robust at the same time. We had a variety of breakfast items for brunch. I ordered the breakfast burrito which was one of the best I have ever had. Their salsa is not traditional salsa but one of the best I have had. The experience was super worth it for the price! I decided to come here for brunch on a Sunday aftern because the interior of this place looked nice. I was really surprised to see a private school like architecture and parking valet in the front. We went without reservation but the wait was only about 10 mins. The food here seemed very clean and healthy. We got a pineapple juice blended with ginger and some other healthy ingredients. The French toast was pretty solid even though it wasn't surprisingly good. The best part about this place was the underground museum galleries. They have a whole display of the history about this place and the architecture is just beautiful. Overall a very pleasant dining experience and I highly recommend it for a date! I stayed at the newly renovated lodge and took all of my meals from here for the weekend. I really wanted to like this... Food/drinks: Let me start with the positive. Cocktails (from the 2 bars connected) were mostly great, esp. the black walnut Manhattan. My last breakfast, a gluten and poultry free version of the Mad Hatcher, was a great meal overall. I wish I hadn't been talked into the specialty cocktail; it was way too sweet for someone who says they like "bourbon" and "spirit-forward." The breakfasts (2x), lunch, and dinners (2x) I had were mostly meh, gluten free and dairy free options were challenging, and it was pricey. Service: Everyone is nice. That's not an issue here. But helpful, efficient, or informed did not always match with nice. Sun brunch was the low. My server brought burnt gluten free toast to my table after a long delay. Enough said. But if you need more: she didn't check on me once I got food, I had to ask for the bill, and she forgot my hot beverage to go. I didn't have the energy to ask and just left without it. Staff was slightly more attentive during other visits. Ambiance: This is what drew me in from my comfortable hotel room. Bright, light, airy, and historic! I saw old pictures and it was renovated beautifully. My only complaint: the light fixture above my little table was dusty and covered in spider webs. Aside from that, the ambiance was inviting. The verdict? I really wanted to love it. In fact, after a slow start to my stay, I was counting on the food as a pick me up. Convenient if you're staying here or at the park. I'd avoid Sun brunch and load up on liquid calories instead. *** Food I tried: - Gluten free toast actually came to the table partially burnt! And it tasted burnt. I should have sent it back but it had taken so long to arrive and I was hungry. - Fruit bowl was mostly good with some mushy pieces. - Forage scramble sans cheese was fresh but flavorless. Side of bacon saved the day! - Octopus tater tots were like salty seafood and potato fritters. Wouldn't do it again but it was nice to see something creative on the menu. - Halibut lettuce cups were fresh and plentiful but again, lacked flavor; the sweet red pepper pieces saved the last bites! - Charcuterie board (without cheese, since I'm lactose free) was delicious. Like the bacon, I would order again. Paired lovely with a red blend bottle of wine. - Mad Hatcher 2 Egg breakfast was yummy! Potato waffle was a nice touch and I got a free bowl of fruit! read more

An excellent place for brunch. The menu isn't huge, but there are offerings for everyone. I had the french toast, a side of bacon, coffee and the 'recovery juice'. The service was outstanding, the food just right and the atmosphere is like a vintage spot in a grand hotel, almost like a themed disney restaurant (minus the mouse). The room is bright and airy, the deep green accent color brings a bit of the forest inside. Can't wait to return. read more

Love this venue. Absolutely wonderful atmosphere and service is excellent. Solid beverage / bar menu as well. We tried the tuna crudo, octopus, asparagus flatbread, mushroom soup and broccoli salad. Really appreciated the preparation by the kitchen to assist with what dishes are able to be gluten free and/or vegetarian based on our diners restrictions. Very deserving of a 4+ star review. Why not 5 stars? We felt the ramps served with the octopus, while super fresh, were too bitter in the dish and the mushroom soup/crudo dishes, again super fresh, just needed some pepper/something more. And the waiter did forget one drink order request, that never came/nor were we billed for...minor miss. The asparagus flatbread was outstanding! Super good. I would definitely go back. Love the locally sourced ingredients and place has serious potential. If it makes a few adjustments and hits the flavors a little bolder (while still featuring the fresh local ingredients) I'd easily up my review to 5 stars. read more

This restaurant has some work to do. It has so much potential to be great but really fell short on my first experience. First of all it's confusing when you drive up whether you should park down below the circle or if your only option is the valet for the restaurant. There should be more signs posted. I finally gave up on looking for a spot below and pulled up to the curb to ask the young guy working the valet where the restaurant is located. He pointed behind him and let me know this was the closest area to park to the restaurant and let me know the valet parking was free for restaurant goers. That was a relief but then the time between when I got out of my car and when he actually parked my car was about 15 minutes. I waited as he retrieved two other parties' vehicles as well as parked my friend's car who arrived 5-10 minutes after me. I eventually went and turned off my engine so as not to waste gas and pollute the environment unnecessarily. My friend went to check in for our reservation and I waited until my car was parked. I eventually went to speak to the guy to ask him if he was going to park my car or just leave it on the curb. I let him know I was worried he had left my car unlocked with the engine running as I live in an area where if I left my car unattended that way it would have been stolen in two minutes. He explained he would park it now - so I made my way towards the restaurant and turned round when I got to the door to see if the car had been parked in that time. Nope! The guy was looking down at his phone while standing next to my car for another few minutes. He saw my friend and I waiting at the door of the restaurant and still did not park the darn car. Not sure why this guy did not seem to understand the importance of taking care of peoples' cars since this is his job but that was just the start of my lunch experience here. We were seated at a nice table with a view out the windows - as you can see from the photos others have posted the space is lovely. Our server was personable, friendly, and made for an enjoyable meal. The actual meal, however, was a bit time consuming and disappointing: the soup was savory but the chunks of parsnips were quite large and inconsistent in texture. We waited about 15 minutes between the first course and the next course with nothing on the table. Next the mushroom bolognaise was nothing to write home about in flavor and the pasta was completely overcooked and mushy. I'm not sure why they served it when you could tell just by looking at it that it was overcooked. Anyway it completely detracted from the dish. And on top of all that I found a hair in the sauce midway through eating this dish. After further inspection it appeared to be a dog hair, not a human hair. That isn't surprising as dogs are allowed to be inside the building. It was still disconcerting and made me not want to continue eating that dish. The kale seasonal salad was very good with pear and grapefruit swapped in for the persimmons that are no longer in season. We added shrimp and that was a nice touch. For desserts we had the cornbread and croissant beignets. I preferred this take on the beignets with cream and fruit topping. This was the best part of the meal. We began our meal around noon and were there for almost 2.5 hours. The table behind us were a couple and their two small children, of which one began bouncing a basketball that echoed throughout the space, all while nobody said anything. This was like nails on a chalkboard to me and I wished someone working at the restaurant would have gone over and asked the parents to remove the basketball from the restaurant or take the child outside. The kid proceeded to bounce said basketball about 10 times in total in the span of about 20 minutes between glares from our table and us quietly mouthing "please stop" in his direction. Couldn't resist coming back for long! We came and enjoyed some brunch yesterday. We made a reservation ahead of time-always good to do so we can expect a spot. We got to sit in a lovely booth that faced the window. It was nice for both of us to have a nice view. We enjoyed: Butterflies & Hurricanes: this was a neat, grapefruit tequila delight. The pea flower made a sweet aftertaste. The color is gorgeous. Sanctum Solis: the chamomile is very strong here! This is a good cocktail for a tea lover. Everything-Spiced Smoked Salmon Frittata: the best dish I have had here so far. The crème fraiche was very dill forward, and the potato waffle was the most elegant hashbrown I have ever seen. I asked for my hot sauce when I ordered-so worth it. Their in house hot sauce is wonderful. They should consider bottling it. Roasted Berkshire Pork Hash: this was very well done. The veggies were fresh, and the pork was wonderfully flavored through. The service was wonderful-their staff is so nice, friendly and accommodating. We loved their ambiance-they made us feel so welcome and pampered. read more
