Kathakali is a great spot if you're with a group since there's so much on the menu to try. My favorites were the Gunpowder Dosa, the Malabar Parotta, and the garlic naan. The dosa had great seasoning and came with a variety of sauces that made every bite interesting, while the parotta was flaky, buttery, and perfect for scooping up the curries. The Nawabi Paneer Curry had incredibly soft paneer, though I wished the curry itself packed a little more flavor. The Mushroom Chicken surprised me and I've never had anything like it before. It tasted more like a creamy pasta sauce than a traditional Indian curry, but it was still delicious. The Mutton Varattiyathu was well-seasoned without being too spicy or gamey, and while the Kerala Aapam wasn't my favorite because of its chewy, slightly sweet texture, I'm glad I got to try something new. Service was quick and efficient, and while the restaurant is on the smaller side, there was still a decent amount of seating. I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu.

Got take out from this place and it's a solid South Indian place! So much flavor and even after cooled down, they all still taste amazing. The spicy mutton curry is 1000/10

We swung by kathakali to try some authentic mallu food. First impressions wise, we didn't have a prior reservation and easily got a table because of the ample seating they have. The ambience is a bit dated. The service, however, is really fast. We ordered the aapam, kadala curry, parippu vadai, mutton varattiyathu and the idiyappam. The food was delicious and tasted very authentic. The portion sizes are huge and we were left with tons of leftovers that lasted us for many days. The prices were decent too, especially for Seattle area.

Even through they didnt take reservation, we decided to give it a try with a group of 8 since we really wanted to try out this place. They were very accommodating and were able to set up a table for 8 of us. We got to try quite a few dishes including masala dosa.. so dosa was excellent and so was the dipping sauces. TheWe never had the Seabass dish and it was also flavorful! Kids went through a lot of garlic naan. We also enjoyed the pistachio lassi that was good to tame down some of the heat dishes. Services was great and had parking around the building. Looking forward to coming back again.

I treid this restaurant when I was on a work trip to Seattle. There are no Kerala-style restaurants in my current city (Austin). So it was a pleasant surprise to find this place. There wasn't much parking available, but we were able to find one quick enough. We tried their aapam with cocunut milk. It was so tender, it melted in your mouth. We also tried their kilangu appetizer, and it reminded me of my childood. Kerala food is not complete if you don't try Parotta with chicken curry. The parotta was very flaky and phenomenal. Ther service was quick and the ambiance was initmate. I got some Chai to go, and sipped it on the way back to hotel.

I went on a Friday night by myself so already, I'm not the right audience for this joint. Indian food is better shared with a variety of entrees in my opinion. I got the Malabar parotta and the vegetable ishtoo. They both tasted fine. Not amazing, not great, just a little bit under "good." So I would not come back again. Maybe I ordered wrong. Service was very nice and friendly. Staff was great and I enjoyed my time at the restaurant. The food didn't sit well with me the next day and I didn't get anything spicy. I'm glad the staff helped me out to pick something not spicy.

The taste of every dish was so flavorful and rich. The quality of food here is supreme. The service is fast. Definitely try these dishes we ordered - Palakkad Avial, Shahi Paneer.. both were really good.

Reently, we have been coming here for their dosa's. We try to come soon after they open on weekends, skip any wait and we get dosa for breakfast. We have been mostly getting Masala dosa, and Gun powder dosa, and have been loving them both.

While the food was great and you can tell it is specialized to Kerala style Indian food. I was pleasantly surprised to find an egg with my chicken biriyani and I would get it again. The service was not as great. I did feel that I was ignored due to dining alone compared to other tables that had groups.

Returned to Kathakali today! Had the Nawabi Paneer Curry and my friend had butter chicken. We shared garlic naan! Also forgot to picture the Kerala Aapam with the coconut milk which was also good. Definitely will keep coming back. Service is always friendly and fast!

This is a small location with a parking lot. It is busy. We were able to get a table and the service is efficient. It has a relaxing vibe. We tried Malabar parotta after seeing a feeling patron eating it. It was so good, I highly recommend trying it. I liked that the samosas were smaller and bite sized. The chicken tikka masala was really good as well. This was a great find and we will be back to try other items.

Kathakali specializes in South Indian cuisine, which means they've got a less basic menu with some fantastic carby options. The quality is high and the restaurant is p o p u l a r. I went for dinner on a Friday night around 8:10 PM and found a line out the door. I was concerned they would turn us away considering the restaurants hours, but they seated my party of 2 and another party at almost 9 PM. Their parking lot is a bit small and unorganized (no clear lines), which is a little less than ideal. Prawn Pakoras (2/5): Definitely my least favorite item I tried. Batter was bland, shrimp overcooked, but the crunch on the outside wasn't bad. Kerrala Aapam (4/5): A little sour and a little sweet. A bit mild, but the coconut was a great bite to have in between all the heavier, spiced flavors. Butter Dosa (4.25/5): The dosa is huge and the texture is super crunchy. Same slight sourness to the batter, but the weakest part was the chutneys - wasn't a big fan of any of them. Munnar Mutton Kurma (4.5): Surprisingly, the curry was by far my favorite item I tried. Mutton was super tender and the black pepper flavor is deceptively more spicy than the initial flavor would imply. Will be back to try more of their curry options for sure. Overall, I'm giving this 4 stars, but I think if you limit yourself to one carb option and try more of the curries, this would be a very strong contender for 5 stars.

We grabbed the Rajma Chawal and Chole Bhature for mains, they were decent enough to hit the spot. The snacks were where it got a little tricky. The Ram Ladoo and Kachori Chat tasted good, but they were barely lukewarm. Kind of a bummer since you really want those hot! On the flip side, the Lamb appetizer was incredible super soft and juicy. Definitely the star of the show. We finished with desserts and they totally saved the day. The Kulfi Falooda was 10/10, and the Shashi tukda was the perfect sweet finish.

The Fateh Chand Kachori Chaat is a great, refreshing appetizer to share between two people. We also tried the Zafrani Chicken Tikka, which didn't taste as good as we expected because of the amount of cheese on it. The cheese overpowered the authentic spices, and we think we should have ordered the regular Bhatti Murgh instead. We also tried their Chole Bhature, which had an authentic taste. However, it came with only one bhatura. We also tried the Sweet Peda Lassi, which was more like a dessert cup than a glass of lassi, so we skipped dessert afterward. Overall, we had a good dining experience and our server was great. The only drawbacks were the the portion sizes are on the smaller side for the price, so it feels more like a special occasion dining spot for families. Second, the restrooms need better maintenance. For the price customers pay, the restrooms should be clean and well maintained to provide a better overall dining experience. All in all, it's a good spot to try flavorful, authentic food in the area!

The thali was presented in a wonderfully traditional manner, which immediately set the tone for the experience. There were 16 different items, and everything tasted authentic and thoughtfully prepared. The stars of the meal for me were the Bajri Raab and the Ghewar--both absolutely outstanding. The service was courteous, and we thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience. A couple of suggestions for improvement: when the thali is served, it would be helpful if the person presenting it could briefly explain each dish and perhaps suggest how certain items are traditionally paired or eaten. That would make the experience even more immersive, especially for those unfamiliar with Rajasthani cuisine. Also, the plate felt a bit small for the number of ramekins. There was very little room left for the rice, and the chutney and pickle kept sliding underneath the ramekins, making things a bit messy. A slightly larger plate would make the meal much more comfortable to enjoy. Finally, please continue hosting thali festivals featuring cuisines from different regions of India. That's a fantastic concept, and we'd love to return for more regional culinary experiences.

The food is usually delicious, and the service is usually fine, but there always seems to be something that throws off our dining experience here. For example, we dined in last Sunday for dinner, and were promptly seated. We ordered the garlic naan to share, and our vegetarian friend ordered the Paneer Makhni. However, when the dish arrived, she took a bite and discovered that there were chicken pieces inside, and when we alerted the server, we didn't even receive an apology. They took away her plate, which had some rice and garlic naan, and gave her a new plate with a new order of the Paneer Makhni, and did not replace the rice and garlic naan that was lost due to their mistake. I feel that giving a vegetarian or vegan person a dish with meat is a huge mistake, and I was very disappointed by the lack of an apology and the lack of an effort to make things right. On the happy side, the garlic naan was tasty, and I personally ordered a chicken kabob dish that was covered in sauce, which was phenomenal. Another example is that for 3 or 4 visits, we interacted with the same server. He always greeted us with "ni hao" even though we are not Chinese. Even worse, on multiple occasions, after we paid for the food with credit card, he would make up some lie about how the card reader was broken for the tip portion, and he would ask for a cash tip that he pocketed. We've never had this issue with any other server, and I've even seen this guy tell other groups the same lie about the card reader not working for the tip portion, even though it worked fine for the main payment. In summary, although Kanishka seems to have some food quality control issues, the food is delicious, and the service can be a wide range from very poor to good.
