The sriracha-mayo that comes with it compliments the dish well. Chicken Katsu Curry: The maximum spice level is a three--not spicy at all, but gave a nice warmth. The cutlets are nicely sized, crispy, and moist. The curry itself was traditional in a sense that it had a gentle flavor. Consistency-wise, it was on the thin side. The salad it came with was perfectly coated in dressing; though, I find the dressing to be a bit too sweet. The portion you get is adequate for the price you pay. Despite that, I'm extremely grateful that Ashiya, despite the rising costs of running a business in WA, continues to maintain the same high quality food experience, and does so consistently. Many restaurants have decreased quality and quantity in WA to compensate for the never ending tax increases and regulatory fees. Not Ashiya. I ordered the creamy curry udon noodles while my wife got the beef donburi. The creamy curry udon noodles was good - but in my opinion, I thought it lacked substance. I was looking for a beautiful blend of salty and sweet in each bite, but the curry flavor was so overpowering that I didn't taste the cream at all. The teriyaki had a great crunch, but it desperately needed some sort of sweetness to be paired with it. Not a bad dish, but it just felt a bit empty. The donburi was HUGE and busy, which was a delight. Great portions for sure! A mixture of kimchi, beef, and rice can never go wrong. The only fault to this dish was that the beef was rather tough - either it was overcooked or it was old meat, which I view as a cardinal sin. Overall, the mixture of Korean and Japanese cuisine was a nice flair and definitely unique. The amount of food is great too, with each plate being stacked to the brim. I haven't been here in years, and the flavors are just as I remembered. I love their creamy kimchi udon. It is so good. The noodles are chewy and the sauce is the perfect balance of creamy, sour, and salty. You also have the option to add chicken katsu to it. We also tried the chicken katsu Japanese curry. It was okay, but I don't really like Japanese curry. Those who do would love this dish. I will be back to try more katsu dishes because the chicken is fried really well. It was very tender and juicy. I am thrilled that I am only a few blocks from this amazingly delicious restaurant... it's honestly my most favorite place to eat since moving here in December. The man who owns it is the nicest sweetest guy, always greets me by name (may be a sign I eat here far to much, but I can't help it!!) the katsu is always crispy yet juicy, their creamy udon chicken is my absolute favorite however.... You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. My daughter loves the menu board, specially around Christmas with all of the characters and snowflakes floating around it. Probably my new favorite restaurant in Lynnwood! I'm surprised it took me this long to try Ashiya and now I must go more frequently. A little hole in the wall Japanese restaurant serving up the yummiest Japanese dishes. They have a variety amount of things to choose from and their dishes are a good portion for a decent price! I think a must get here is the creamy udon with chicken katsu. They add cheese to the top of the katsu which I enjoyed (I think they used parmesan, which gives it a little saltiness, so might not be for everyone). The sauce was the perfect amount of creaminess and the noodles were cooked perfectly. It tasted a bit different from other creamy udon dishes I tried at other places, like there was a bit more depth in the sauce. I wish the broccoli wasn't super soft but that's personal preference. Overall, I couldn't stop eating it! My boyfriend got the chicken teriyaki and katsu combo platter. It had a generous serving of meat. He enjoyed this dish as well. We are from the SF Bay Area and saw this place on yelp while researching where to eat. Trust me when I say this restaurant does not disappoint. We arrived this morning and made the trip to have our first meal at this local establishment. We were greeted right away when we walked in and you order at the counter. The food was brought directly to the table. Everyone was polite and helpful. The place is small but big enough to seat small to medium groups. It is nothing fancy but it is cute and quaint. We tried the Omurice and the Kimchi Cream Udon. Both are amazingly delicious. The Omurice is not the runny egg but that didn't detract from the sheer deliciousness of the dish. It was a huge portion and if I must repeat myself, absolutely delicious. - 9/10 and far better than what we have locally. The Kimchi Cream Udon was rich, creamy, and had bold flavors and fun textures. It is a must try dish - 9.5/10 If the dishes we had are an example of how the other menu items would be, try everything and come here often. Definitely worth the visit. read more

We were in the area and decided to stop by this restaurant based on strong Yelp reviews. It did not disappoint. Located in an unassuming location right off a busy road, we weren't sure because all the blinds were down. Once inside, we were warmly greeted by the cashier and the amazing smell of food. The menu is pretty extensive. It took us awhile to pick our lunch. I opted for the seafood champon and my daughter went for the creamy udon. Both were divine. Portions are really good and I feel that you get good value for your money. The champon was delightful loaded with seafood. Like actually seafood. I'm impressed. The curry katsu udon was the favorite of the table. Katsu kept its crispiness even toward the last few bites and was super moist. Like an Asian version of chicken parm. Would order this again or another one of the udon plates. Takoyaki was a bit too flour heavy. The sauce on top was a bit heavy handed on ketchup. Calamari was lightly breaded and crispy both ideal. Price a bit high for this one for the quantity. Staff are very nice. They accommodated a large group with a reservation. You can order up front, at a computer kiosk, or using a QR code. I got the kimchi cream udon and the curry cream udon with chicken katsu and they were CRAZY good I couldn't stop eating them both! The udon was the perfect texture and the cream sauce covered it perfectly. They both have unique flavors so you have to get both! Many of my friends who live up north around Lynnwood and Bothell have always hyped up Ashiya to be one of the best places for a casual Japanese meal, so I finally let them take me here to try for myself. I ordered the Chicken Karaage Curry that came with a side of rice and a salad. The chicken was cooked well, but I felt like it could have used more seasoning in the batter before it was fried, but still good for what it is. Curry was pretty standard, although having bits of vegetables would've been nice. The sides were decent too. I think the food was made nicely, I would come back here again. This place is a hidden gem. My sisters asked me where I wanted to go for my birthday and Yelp has lead me here. It's located in a little plaza, not too far from the freeway with ample parking space that shares with other businesses. The decor in the place was so cute, they even brought out the cute plates for us to use. We ordered the calamari, chicken creamy udon and the tan tan noodles. The calamari was so good. It had the perfect amount of batter and you can taste the squid. The aioli sauce was a nice touch to it. It came out pipin' hotttt. The spicy tan tan ramen had tons of toppings, they definitely did not skimp, although it would have been nice if the eggs wasn't fully cooked. The chasiu was spectular and thicccck. The show stopper for me was the chicken creamy udon on the hot plate. It was hot and steamy! I've never had perfect broccoli and carrots in a dish before. It wasn't mushy--and the chicken was surprisingly flavorful and not dry. The udon and creamy sauce was chef's kiss. The staff here was really nice and kind. One of the best small ramen shops in Snohomish County. We loved the Takoyaki and Honey karaage as our starters. The portions are huge, so we split a Spam Donburi and a beef Udon and it fed our small family of four. We really recommend the Udon, it was our favorite dish! Feels like a Korean Japanese fusion place to me. Everything here has the sweetness touch in it, like teriyaki, which I'm not a big fan off. However the flavors are there so it's not too bad. . Beef donburi: eggs are cooked more than I prefer. Beef is tender . Unagi donburi: unagi is great but I wish they had seared it just a little bit longer . Honey chicken karaage: crunchy and moist inside . Creamy udon: very tasty and not too cheesy. . Omurice: we thought it's going to be the one where you cut in the middle and the egg flips from the center but it's not the case. It's basically just a big egg over fried rice. Every place was packed for New Years Eve, but we got lucky and this place was mostly slammed with to-go instead of dine in orders. Unique menu, like a teriyaki joint with some some other fusion like offerings. Bowls of ramen are HUGE! Not the best ramen, but for portion size they win. Some of our favorite dishes are the kim chee udon and the cream udon. My husband liked the omurice flavor but it's not a traditional omurice, more like omelet with fried rice inside. The udon was perfectly bouncy, and the sauce itself was superb. My husband had the katsu curry, level 2 out of 3. I great level of spice and the curry was great. We recently got back from Japan and we finally found something on par with what is served there! The portions are great, there is plenty of parking, and the staff are incredibly nice. Order at the front then find a table of eating in and they will deliver the food to your table. The curry cream chicken katsu udon was well fried and seasoned. Chicken katsu crispy but not oily and super juicy. The curry udon was like your standard Japanese curry: umami, saucey, and super flavorful. Not overly salty. The shoyu tonkotsu ramen came with plenty of shiitake mushrooms and bamboo which I love! It also had some bean sprouts which is interesting I feel like I've never seen bean sprouts in ramen but I love bean sprouts! The tonkotsu was maaaaybe slightly dry but the grill flavor was superb. The ramen noodles were also nice and chewy and bouncy. Both dishes came out piping hot! No premade stuff here, all seems super fresh! They also have Togo boxes supplied outside so you don't have to wave down someone to ask for a box, you can easily grab it yourself which was nice. read more

Hands down one of the best curry places in the Seattle area. I've tried all the curries and it is excellent. The takayoki balls are also very soft in the inside and crispy on the outside. The flavor isn't just flour it has a good amount of octopus inside. One reason why I liked this place so much was that the curry here closely resembled the curry from Japan! I can't believe I didn't know about this place until now. Honestly, I had heard of Ashiya before, but I never bothered to visit until recently. Finally, I decided to check it out. Ashiya is conveniently located near Martha Lake, right across from Walmart and Bowlero. Parking is easy, with plenty of free spaces available in the building. Upon entering Ashiya, my friend and I were warmly greeted by a man who seemed to be the manager or owner. All the staff were polite and wore matching shirts that read, "Do you want to eat ramen?" The menu at Ashiya is impressive, offering a unique variety of dishes including ramen, udon, curry, donburi, fried rice, yakisoba, cream udon, stir-fried dishes, and teriyaki. With so many options, my friend and I had a hard time deciding what to order, so we did a quick search for the most popular dishes at Ashiya. Since it was our first visit, we chose two entrees and one appetizer from the highly recommended dishes: Calamari, Omusoba, and Curry Cream Udon with Chicken Katsu. While waiting for our orders, we enjoyed iced tea. My friend then noticed some interesting sodas that appeared to be imported from Japan. Naturally, we had to try them for the new experience. The soda, called "Ramune," was a bit of a challenge to open, but the manager, who showed up with our calamari at the perfect moment, kindly showed us how. He was very nice and funny. The soda had a unique and pleasant taste, slightly sweet, and definitely worth trying for the novelty. As for the food, the calamari was incredibly fresh and flavorful. The crispy exterior and tender interior made it the perfect fried dish. The Omusoba and Curry Cream Udon with Chicken Katsu were special in their own way, blending Korean and Japanese styles into something uniquely Ashiya. The Omusoba had a delightful mix of flavors, with the soba noodles inside complementing the omelette outside perfectly. It's hard to describe, but it was absolutely delicious. If you prefer rice over noodles, you could order for the "Omurice" instead. The Curry Cream Udon is another dish that's unique to Ashiya and can't be found anywhere else. All the dishes we tried were amazing and well worth the drive up north from Seattle. I will definitely come back anytime soon to try more of their popular dishes. read more

Friend chicken Japanese curry was phenomenal! We also got ramen, the portion was excellent but we weren't a fan of the burnt meat. I prefer super soft meet in my ramen. Plenty of veggies and worth trying though! Teriyaki and chicken katsu was also delicious! Good balance flavor and fresh crunchy katsu. Service was very nice and friendly. Clean bathroom. I stopped by Ashiya for a katsu curry lunch since I was in the area. This is basically a counter service establishment - order at the front, pick a table, and if there are any leftovers, containers are easily accessible. I believe Ashiya is owned by Koreans, given the kpop playing in the background and the use of Korean rice. At any rate, I ordered just that one dish since I was craving some Japanese curry. Chicken Katsu Curry ($16.99) - This dish is served on a deceptively large plate, with a huge piece of katsu that is probably double the size of what you would typically get. There's a side salad carefully positioned at the top of the plate, with a sweet dressing mixed in. It's a bit puzzling why they include the salad there instead of on a separate plate, since the dressing starts mixing with the curry. The katsu has a fantastic crisp exterior, with the breading that starts to peel away from the meat, but doesn't manage to fall off entirely. The meat is exceptionally tender and soft - almost like it's not meat since there isn't enough bite to even detect any meat fibers. I wouldn't say it's mushy at all, but it might be too tender for a katsu. The katsu covers a mound of rice, which I believe is a medium grain. It has a nice bite and fragrance and is cooked well, allowing the grains to be felt on the tongue. Surrounding everything is a very neutral tasting curry - I'd say it's similar to a boxed Golden Curry, with some additional spices added for pizzaz. I ordered it one spicy level, which gives it a bit of spice - enough to warm up the dish, but not enough for any pain in the mouth. There are tender onions mixed in as well, but it doesn't seem like Ashiya does a good job keeping the onion skins out - I had one piece of skin that was very tough. At first it looks like there's not nearly enough rice for the amount of curry on the dish, but it's actually quite adequate since the dish isn't very deep. (4/5) They serve free "hot" tea in a dispenser, but it was completely cold when I had tried it out. Puzzling since the restaurant had just opened 30 minutes prior. Ashiya is a place I wouldn't go out of the way to eat at, but if I'm in the area again and am craving Japanese or Korean food, I wouldn't mind stopping by again.
