Everything we got was yummy, but kinda expensive. It worth a try once if you're in the Seattle or the Bellevue area. Before my trip to Seattle I made sure to make a reservation because this place is so popular & always has a wait. I was right. Even before the restaurant opened, there were already people waiting outside. I got the beef steak aomori tendon set & it was yummy. I ordered it with the spicy kohaku sauce & it wasn't even spicy. The beef was yummy & well seasoned. The tempura was crispy, but nothing special. I also tried the thick cut rare salmon katsu & kura don set. I was good, but not my favorite. The salmon was soft & cooked medium rare. The egg & mayo sauce goes well with the salmon. The rice was soft & fluffy. FoWe got the sweet potato brûlée for dessert. It was good, but not worth the price. There was creamy & not too sweet. Overall, I had a great experience here, but can't justify coming here all the time.

This continues to be a gorgeous spot for a meal, whether you're going for a work lunch, dining alone, or with a group. The tempura is consistently crispy, fresh, and flavorful. Our server, Andrew, was helpful and attentive, and I appreciated the attention to food allergies. Definitely a 10/10 experience with the only criticism being the parking situation.

Absolute gem of a restaurant! A reservation is a MUST, otherwise you could be waiting up to 2 hours! The parking lot is tight and small so street parking is suggested. Now the reason for my 5 star review...their food is AMAZING! Japanese tempura dishes are their specialty. They are so light, fresh, and beyond delicious. They have seasonal items that make me want to return again and again and again. If you love green tea, their iced matcha green tea in a small shareable carafe is truly refreshing on a hot summer day. Andrew, our server, was helpful and quick to attend to our requests/questions. Highly recommend this unique eatery!

I wanted to enjoy my experience at Tendon Kohaku, but there were several service issues that made it a little disappointing. We had a reservation for 2:00 PM, yet we weren't seated until 2:24 PM. I'm not sure what the purpose of making a reservation is if guests still have to wait that long. When you're planning a celebration or trying to stay on schedule, reservations should be honored as closely as possible. It was also a weekday during non-peak dining hours and I've personally never let a reservation wait more than 5-10 minutes if they called ahead. After we were finally seated, it took about 10 minutes before anyone greeted our table. A booth that was seated after us received water first, while we were completely overlooked. I eventually had to ask for water, and our server even mumbled, "Oh shoot," which made it seem like he realized he had forgotten about us. It wasn't the best first impression. The food itself was amazing, and we were there celebrating a friend's birthday, so I was glad the meal was enjoyable. However, the service and long wait overshadowed the experience. With better organization and more attentive service, this could have easily been a much better visit.

The tempura was really good. The curry also very tasty and atint of spiciness. The tempura sauce goes great with rice. The coconut dessert doesn't taste very strong but it's very cute and fun cause you can paint over it before you eat it.

Absolutely worth the hype I thought... This was the best meal we had on our mini weekend trip to the PNW! We tried coming here the Thursday we landed, but unfortunately the wait was an hour and a half! Parking was a challenging as well, we got lucky, but unfortunately were unable to make use of the parking spot. Eventually we realized why... lol. One of da wahini's ex co-workers came here and had glowing things to say. My mate also recommended Tendon Kohaku as well. I see why... we made it out unofficial mission to dine here before we left. We made it out to Tendon Kohaku on a Monday afternoon for a slightly late lunch, right before we headed to the airport. SUCCESS!!! We still waited an hour for a table! Tendon Kohaku is apparently known for their Tempura. However I digress, since I'm not the biggest Tempura fan. We opted to procure their SEASONAL OFFERINGS, since we probably won't be back for a while. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Tendon Kohaku is not the largest of venues; I'd say medium size. There is an outdoor area. However, it's a bit confusing, since there is a TAKE OUT window and I didn't see any patrons actually eating outside. I'm guessing the outdoor area is just for waiting and not actually dining.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] #TastyEats: ~ Lavender Matcha Latte ラベンダー抹茶ラテ - 5/5 We could definitely smell and taste Lavender on top, not too sweet. Mix it up, it gets even better; perfectly balanced refreshing Matcha flavor without being overly bitter. (SEASONAL OFFERINGS) ~ Black Truffle Grilled Steak Don 黒トリュフのグリルステーキ丼 - 6/5!! Probably one of the best rice dishes I had. Even the rice was amazing. I believe this was my first time trying a Black Truffle Donburi. The steak was perfectly cooked; tender, juicy & moist. The Truffle flavor on the rice was absolutely divine. We loved this dish! It even comes with a side of Chawanmushi, pickled Cabbage and Miso Soup. (SEASONAL OFFERINGS) ~ Creamy Hokkaido Uni Udon クリーミー北海道うにうどん - 5/5 absolutely amazing - 5/5 An absolutely brilliant Udon dish! Exactly what you envision a perfect Uni Udon to be; delicate, silky, smooth with a creamy umami and briny finish. This also comes with a side of Chawanmushi, pickled Cabbage and Miso Soup. (SEASONAL OFFERINGS) ~ Purple Sweet Potato Mont Blanc 紫芋モンブラン - 4/5 We thought the Purple Sweet Potato purée was a bit overbearing, especially since we were nibbling it from the top. It was a lot better once we mixed everything up. It's more like a Parfait on the bottom; with vanilla soft cream and corn flakes, so be sure to mix everything up. (SEASONAL OFFERINGS) ~ Kohaku Matcha Parfait 琥珀抹茶パフェ - 5/5 I opted to order this as well since we felt the Purple Sweet Potato Mont Blanc was a bit of a let down. Very happy to say, this was NOT a let down. It a SIGNATURE item, so it won't be going anywhere. A perfect Matcha Parfait; Matcha Ice Cream, Corn Flakes, Strawberries, Shiratama Dango, topped with Warabi Mochi, Whipped Cream and Matcha dust, all layered in a glass horn. DELISH! (SIGNATURE OFFERINGS) ~ Sakura Tendon Set 季節天丼 桜セット- 4.5/5 While I'm not a Tempura fan, I decided we need to try some of the other signature dishes, namely Tempura. We ordered this to go for dinner whenever we got hungry, which happened to be on the plane. I can see the appeal, just don't make the mistake we did. This needs to be eaten fresh, it's not one of those dishes that can sit around for a bit. Having said that the batter was still very good. I can see this being very appealing when it's fresh. I'm sure the presentation in person is brilliant as well. Make a reservation if you are able to, otherwise you be prepared to wait... there is always a wait. The hype was justified!

Overall: A+ // 6 stars The might be the most popular restaurant in Bellevue and I can clearly see why. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The seating is comfortable, the staff are top notch, and the food excels in both aesthetic and taste, all for a reasonable price with easy to acquire reservations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It would be a shame to not visit this place if you're ever in Bellevue. Uni Tempura - Battered sea urchin wrapped in a shiso leaf, it tastes quite delicate as you could imagine. This concept works and maintains the delicate nature of the uni, so perfect for those who don't want to eat it raw. Wagyu Box - Love this high quality box of the jewels of Japan- wagyu, ikura, uni, and fresh wasabi all in one set for under $40. The box had all the comfort flavors of izakaya with that elevated element of indulgence. The pickled cucumber and cabbage also are perfect pairings to give a contrastive acidity. Jelly Cat - Super fun concept where they give a charcoal paint so you can play with your jelly cat as you wish. The crystal boba adds a mild bounce and light sweetness that gives the dessert depth. I would be curious if the charcoal could be substituted with a sesame paste to add another layer of flavor. Seasonal Creamy Hokkaido Uni Udon
    Sheila E.

Seasonal Black Truffle Grilled Steak Don- strong truffle flavor. Rice was incredible. You could taste the truffle in a few grains of rice. I know this because a little bit fell on my napkin. Beef was tender. Absolutely loved every bite. Seasonal Creamy Hokkaido Uni Udon- this was also amazing. Very creamy. Loved the saltiness of the salmon roe and chewiness of the udon. Wouldn't mind getting this again. Seasonal Lavender Matcha Latte- I don't usually like to drink my dessert but this was exceptional. Absolutely loved the lavender foam. It was perfectly balanced and perfect amount of sweetness. I'd get it again Seasonal Purple Sweet Potato Mont Blanc- this looked better than it tasted the sweet potato itself was more savory and needed the soft serve to make it taste more like a dessert. Once you make your way to the soft serve, spoon a little bit of the sweet potato with a full spoon of soft serve, then it'll be good, in my opinion. Kohaku Matcha Parfait- delicious. Loved the little bit of strawberry and the warabi mochi. Probably not the best matcha parfait I've had but I'd get it again. Got the Sakura Tendon Set to go for dinner on the plane. While it was tasty, the crispiness didn't hold up so I would not recommend taking it to go/eating it at room temp. The grilled steak don probably would've been better for this purpose but I have no regrets. Service was excellent, friendly, and helpful. Looking forward to visiting again next time I'm in town.

It was our first time trying this place out. It did not disappoint. We made reservations way ahead of time knowing this place was always busy and booked out. We went on a random Thursday afternoon time outside of lunch time and it was still so busy!! So advice is to book ahead of time to guarantee seating! The service was good from the start! We thoroughly enjoyed our food. Husband and I got different sets of food, so we could try it out! We will definitely come back again, theres a few other items on the menu we would love to try out!

We reserved a spot for two at 4:45pm, came at 4:50 and got seated immediately! The reservations were pretty booked but the inside was half full. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside is spacious but nicely organized to maximize seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is quite lovely and on theme![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Upon seating everything was very clean but our water was lukewarm.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the black truffle grilled steak, creamy Hokkaido udon, and sweet potato crème brûlée for dessert. After receiving the steak bowl we still had to wait 5-10 minutes for the second bowl. The food looked amazing and tasted amazing!!! Both were very fulfilling but the steak to rice ratio definitely could've been better. The rice however was seasoned with some sort of truffle sauce and still tasted good on its own. After clearing our dishes we received our dessert and it was very delicious as well!! Our bill came out to around $95 including tip. Overall the food was amazing, inside was aesthetic but service could have been better.

Found this spot on Yelp when looking for dinner and it had a really promising review. The only reservation I could get in advance was 9pm, which I took anyway since I'm not a fan of waiting in line. We arrived about 10 minutes early and were seated right away. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant was pretty busy and lively, but it was unusually warm inside. It was a warm day outside, but it felt like the AC was either off or not doing much. That made the dinner a bit uncomfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food-wise, it was solid overall. I had the carbonara udon. It was good but I don't think I would order it again. I did steal a bite of my husband's pork katsu curry, and that was really good. Super crispy pork, juicy inside, and the curry was flavorful. I'll definitely order that next time. We also had the sweet potatoes crème brûlée, which was excellent and would order again! The lemon sour was a bit of a miss for me. It basically tasted like lightly flavored sparkling water. I'd skip it next time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall, good food and a nice vibe, just a bit too warm inside for comfort.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Everything we ordered was delicious! The Beef Steak Aimori Tendon Set was flavorful and tender, and the steak was cooked perfectly. The thick-cut rare salmon katsu and ikura don set was also beautifully prepared. As someone who loves salmon, seafood, and vegetables, I really enjoyed how the salmon paired with the purple cabbage, tomato, and avocado--it was such a fresh and well-balanced combination. I'm not usually a big pork person, but my boyfriend ordered the Kurobuta Pork Katsu Curry Rice, and I was impressed. The katsu was perfectly crispy and paired so well with their signature chocolate curry. The curry was unique in the best possible way, with an incredible depth of flavor that made the dish stand out. The purple sweet potato Mont Blanc was pricey, but great to share amongst 5 people who want a few bites. I loved the unique texture and flavor from the soft serve and it worked really well with the matcha soft serve on the bottom. This place gets very packed very quickly. My family and I got there a little over a hour before opening and got to be first in line on a Saturday, but soon after I got there, there was already a long line before they opened. I can tell that they take pride in their quality of food and it was definitely worth the wait

Tendon Kohaku Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Tendon Kohaku

    Is there parking?

Yes, limited/small parking lot, but with street parking.

For the party of 10 including a baby under 3, do they accept a reservation online? After you order food, how long will it take for the food come out?

It's best to call if there are 10 + people because the restaurant is small.

When's the best day and time to go if I want to avoid a long wait? Also how long in advance can they take reservations? Can I do a party of 2-3 for the next day?

I feel like opening is a good time on weekdays, but it is hard to predict. You could go early and add yourself to the waitlist, but all members have to be present to be seated

The reservation page does not accept any reservation for months. Is it already closed for months out?

They don't take reservations for groups smaller than 5

What time do they open the waitlist in the morning? I want to get seated at the first round when they open at 11am?

If you show up at 10:30 am, you will be able to get seated.

For a party of one, would it still be a long wait time, or would it be easier to get in?

Easier. You'll still get in the queue but the bar seating will move you up the queue faster.

    Can we make the reservation?

Yes, reservations are available if you google search. There is a "reserve a table option"

    Do they do takeout orders?

They only do take out drinks and desserts. No take out real food

Are there gluten-free items on the menu?

Some of their appetizers, like the salmon carpaccio, are GF. Desserts are also GF. Unfortunately, a lot of Japanese curry roux and udon noodles have wheat in them, so those dishes might not be GF, but you can always ask the staff to confirm

How does their waitlist work? Do you have to physically wait outside the restaurant for your name to be called or do they have a system where they can text you when your table is about ready?

You physically wait outside the restaurant when (or before) they open, and you will be added to the waitlist in-person. Then, you can track your waitlist position online and come back to the restaurant when your table is ready.

    Do they accept reservations?

I went the other day, and they told me that you can make reservations for a party of 5+!

Has the hype died down yet such that it's not crazy all evening?

My friend was there a few days ago and it was still pretty busy. I recommend calling ahead to get an estimated wait time!

Starting off with service, everyone we spoke with was lovely and inviting. We felt welcomed and our server kept checking on us, but wasn't too invasive, so we were able to catch up. We were greeted with hand towels and 3 options for water. Cutlery and tableware were nicely set up and I'm obsessed with their plates! The chicken kaarage was not particularly flavorful nor did it have much of a crispy skin. Also tried the Cos-no-politan mocktail which definitely had that grapefruit flavor. For mains, I got the bento and the Super Bad Boy roll off the happy hour menu. The bento box has good portions. The contents change day to day, but I got chicken teriyaki over rice, 3 pieces of a crab roll, 2 pieces of fish nigiri, seaweed salad with some small octopi. Everything in the box was decent except the teriyaki, which was a bit rubbery. As for the Super Bad Boy roll, it's one of their fried rolls, and the frying made the roll taste a bit dry. They were celebrating their 8th anniversary with some Anniversary specials, so my husband and I ordered the premium Wagyu combo which came with an appetizer, sparkling wine (we opted for just regular drink) and bonus Yuzu sherbet dessert for our anniversary. I got the American Wagyu and husband got the A5 Japanese cut. Both soooo delicious, light and very good quality. The selections and portions were more than enough for us and our Dads. We also got the Happy Hour Sake Sampler set for $20 which was tasty as well. The server and workers there were so amazing. Friendly and came by our table numerous times to make sure we were ok. Took pictures for us and just great all around. This was my 2nd time at this location and I know I'll be back more times again. We loved that it wasn't as crowded as dinner hours. It's one of very few hot pot spots where you get your own pot so you can enjoy it the way you like it...Such a lovely spot, a hidden gem in Bellevue. MUST GO FOR SURE.

Although it was pretty busy inside, we were able to be seated in about 10 minutes, which was great for a last minute decision for Shabu Shabu. I haven't done many Shabu Shabu places, but this one is a bit different since you get a set of vegetables and meat rather than ordering multiple rounds. The quality of the meat and vegetables, in my opinion, was much higher compared to those places where you're able to get multiple rounds of meat or select your own vegetables/sides. The broth (I had kombu) was pretty light, so it wasn't the best. The service was pretty friendly and the only fault to them was they didn't come around to refill our pots with hot water. I enjoyed dinner here and would definitely come back again. The quality of the food, the calm restaurant atmosphere, and the polite staff made it an enjoyable experience.

The restaurant is very small, a few tables and a back room that had a traditional Japanese seating. They have their own small parking lot too right in front. The service was okay. After we got our order it was kind of hard to get someone's attention. Getting the check and paying took a long time. I thought the food was good. The seared salmon was my favorite and they don't put a lot of rice so you can eat lots of it. I kind of liked the ramen it just took a few sips to get used to it and it comes in a big bowl too!! The yaki (not pictured) I misread for soup but it was a sautéed dish and it was also good since I like udon noodles and comes in a huge plate too. So the servings are very big for the entrees and soups. I didn't get to try a lot of the sushi due to most of it having an avocado allergy but had mixed reviews at the table. Overall this place is good!!

We came for lunch on a weekday and it wasn't too busy but there were still a decent number of people inside. We each got the sushi combo which came with 9 pieces of nigiri, and a roll. We chose to upgrade the tuna roll to negitoro, which was completely worth it - it was so buttery and delicious. The set itself was super generous in portion size, and each piece of fish tasted so fresh! I loved the toro piece so much. We also got the pumpkin fried rice to share since it was highly recommended, and WOW that did not disappoint either. It was packed with pumpkin and had a good wok hei aroma. Definitely worth it. All in all, I would absolutely come back here and it is probably one of my favorite spots I've tried yet!
