I stopped in while visiting family in town. Absolutely fantastic. For the quality, this is an awesome restaurant with surprisingly reasonable prices. The restaurant has a great theme and fun for groups. I really enjoyed the katsu pork and the house made curry, and even better with the omirice. Though everything was really good and I will definitely come back when I'm in town. The service was great, A was great and made the whole experience even better. Highly recommend!

Chicken katsu curry with Royce chocolate in it, I must mention it to my kid.

First of all, it was really hard to make a reservation, and their parking lot was too small. My party was seated in a private booth. The inside was much bigger than it looked from the outside, with a nice, clean interior. We ordered potato salad as a starter--it was okay. I should've ordered something more refreshing since we were going to eat a lot of tempura. My kid loved the bacon bits in the salad. I was so excited to try the Sakura don. It was beautifully served; however, the tempura wasn't crispy at all. No ASMR! It was too soggy, and I was really, really disappointed. They did cook the rice well, though, and the choice of short-grain rice was great. My kid was excited to try the Royce chocolate curry. The chicken katsu seemed a bit burnt, but he still enjoyed the curry. I could taste a nice subtle bitter spice. The best was the yuzu cabbage pickle side. I wanted more, but they charged $1.50 for just a bite--haha. I wonder where they found the bite-sized bowl. The best of the best was the skirt steak with sautéed carrots. It was topped with crispy potato chips, and having the sliced steak, chips, and carrots in one bite created a great harmony of textures. Love, love, love. However, today's highlight was the matcha vanilla swirl Mont Blanc. I've never tasted such a purely bitter, not-sweet matcha soft serve like this. The vanilla soft serve reminded me of the lightest one I used to love at old McDonald's--like the kind without rich milkiness, more like skim milk powder soft serve. Yum. I would definitely crave the steak and soft serve again, but I won't miss the tendon. I gave one more star to this place because of my server. He was very pleasant and attentive.

Food Quality: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Value: 5/5 Grea first experience at Tendon Kohaku! This place definitely lives up to the hype and the food was amazing. I ordered the Beef Steak Aimori Tendon Set, Houjicha latte and the sweet potato crème brulee. Everything was so well seasoned and so fast to be served to our table. A was our server and did a fantastic job taking care of us. Highly recommended for anyone to give this a try!

The food is good, tempura and battered stuff is great albeit a bit greasy. It's a hidden grease that kind of shows up a few bites after. It's a memory that always sticks with me after every meal here, "that was greasier then it looked." Food quality is also good, it's what keeps us coming back whole greasy. Food is also clean, restaurant clean, bright, good vibe. This recent visit was reserved online as a "business meeting" and we were seated in the rear of restaurant, a whole separate section and more fitting to a business meeting. Everything really is 4 star for me when it comes to food here but the service this time, especially for business, was a bit too intrusive and way too loud. We were closest to the area where dishes were unloaded after clearing from a table and the server just clanged away with zero sensitivity that we sat only a few feet away. Maybe it was on purpose since this is a high volume restaurant and he wanted to turn tables? I wouldn't be surprised if it was. But it was a turnoff. Turnoff like the bit of greasy feeling after you eat here. Will rethink returning as often as previously because of this last visit.

I recently just went on a trip to Japan, and have been missing japanese food. This place really reminds me of it! We ordered the popular Beef Steak Aimori Tendon Set, Sashimi Aimori Tendon Set, Seared Salmon Aimori Tendon Set, Uni Udon, and Mentaiko Udon. Everything we had was good, and I have no complaints. I do prefer the Sashimi set the most, the quality of fish was great. The uni udon was yummy, but the mentaiko udon is even better. To end the meal, we had the sweet potato crème brûlée. You need to get it. The texture is perfect! My mouth waters just thinking about it. This is so worth the visit. Highly recommend booking a reservation ahead of time!

Braised Beef Curry Udon

Loved the quality of the food in this place! On a weekend evening, my friends and joined the waitlist during peak time and waited more than an hour before being seated. I tried their braised beef curry udon, which camed with a steamed egg that was super comforting and flavorful and silky. The curry itself was rich and savory, and the udon had a nice chewy texture and was a decent portion size. My friends ordered a steak dish, and I thought they steak was delicious and juicy when they let me sample a small portion. We shared the sweet potato creme brulee for dessert, which was unique and a standout. It was creamy with a subtle sweetness from the sweet potato, and the caramelized top added a nice contrast. Satisfying meal and would love to come back to try some other items from their extensive menu!

Came again with a reservation on a weekend for lunch, and they were so busy (apparently), we had to wait an additional 15 min for our table. I had the Sakura tendon set which was marketed as a limited time item, but it wasn't very different from a regular tendon set. That was a little disappointing. And after a few pieces of tempura, I was getting sick of the oil and fry. Also had the sweet potato crème brûlée which was pretty good.

Outstanding tendon (tempura don)! Delicious tempura, excellent dinner sets, fast service. Celebrated a family birthday here and Tendon Kohaku did not disappoint! Loved everything we ordered: - Beef steak aimori tendon set - Seared salmon aimori tendon set - Black truffle grilled steak set (amazing!) - Sweet potato creme brulee (get this!) - Matcha parfait Book your reservations weeks in advance (wait times hit up to 2 hrs on weekends). Look forward to returning!

SASHIMI AIMORI TENDON SET (+$26.95) with BROWN RICE (+$1)
Kimmy L.

This was my third time at Tendon Kohaku. Service was excellent and we got our food within 10 minutes after ordering (note that was had a reservation at 10:45am that we made in advance). The Sashimi Aimori Tendon Set ($26.95) was better than my first time here as the fish wasn't cooked. The tempura was lightly fried and fresh out of the fryer. My friend got the Seared Salmon Tendon Set ($26.95) and thought it was good, but had a few bones in her salmon and the salmon made the tempura slightly soggy. As far as ambiance, our main complaint was that A/C was turned up way too high- it feels like the Costco freezer. I'm glad I brought my puffer jacket in the middle of spring to this restaurant Overall: 3.5/5 for food, 5/5 for service, 3/5 for atmosphere

Premium tendon: w/ egg & conger eel
Loriana L.

Gotta appreciate a restaurant that offers decent desserts with their specialty menu. Save room for some of their dessert offerings. We opted for the matcha parfait that checked all the texture box with beautiful presentation. Although pricey, it offered all the components that made this parfait exciting. The soft serve had strong matcha flavor without being too sweet, but it melted quickly. The sweetness of purple potato puree and crunchy cereal added needed textures. Would have preferred more layers. We enjoyed the soft and chewy dango and warabi mochis (at bottom) and wished there were more than 3 pieces. Sharing not encouraged unless you only want a spoonful. 4/5 The traditional and premium tendons were good. The tempura items were lightly coated and fried to a crisp golden color. While you can't just admire its looks, you gotta taste it. Seasoning was balanced, but by the time you dismantle the parts, some of the crispness has been affected and items like the chicken and conger eel at the back and bottom of the presentation will be a bit soggy with sauce. I don't remember being asked which sauce I preferred. I think I got the Kohaku sauce. This may have affected the crispness of the dish since the sauce was on everything. The sides of miso, refreshing cabbage salad and shawanmushi was helpful for a better experience. 4/5 Service was friendly and efficient. Small parking lot can be frustrating at peak hours. Reservations recommended.

Sashimi Aimori Tendon Set

On our recent visit to Seattle, this restaurant was at the top of our list for our family. Thank goodness we made reservations a few weeks out because when we got to the restaurant around 7:00 p.m. they weren't accepting anymore walk-ins. We were greeted by a friendly host and quickly got seated. The atmosphere here took us back to Tokyo with its decor. We ordered a number of dishes - Sakura Tendon Set, Sashimi Aimori Tendon Set, Kohaku Dashi Stock Udon, and the Kurobuta Pork Katsu Curry Rice. And a couple of Asahi beers. When everyone's dish hit the table the aromas were so delightful. Mom's curry was delicious, and the tempura dishes were incredible. Beautifully presented, crisp, flavorful and served on a bed of fluffy Hokkaido rice. My daughter's udon was great as well with a tasty dashi broth that was so satisfying. I'm glad we made the visit and the plan is to make a this a regular stop on our future trips here. BTW, there's a parking lot with limited free parking. There's also a paid parking lot next door. Hope you enjoy as much as we did.

Tendon Kohaku has quickly become one of my go-to spots. I've been here several times now and it hits every single time. This place is a well-known Japanese chain, and you can really see why. Their menu has a lot of unique options, but everything feels thoughtfully done and consistent across visits. The ambiance is what really stands out to me it's elevated casual with such a cozy feel. The food is AMAZING. Definitely worth the price, it's so good. Overall, definitely worth the hype just plan ahead and it'll be a great time every visit.

Interior

I've been here multiple times - it's just that good! The issue? Securing reservations. Seriously, even during the Superbowl (hawks vs pats) this place was packed. I've had to settle for waiting in line before the restaurant opens to get a shot at getting a table, which works fairly well. Just make sure that everyone in your party is there, or else the workers won't let you get a ticket to line up. They usually open before their advertised hours. Ordering is via QR code, or if you take too long someone will swing by and check on you and take your order. I have to say, the tendon is perfectly crispy, with the batter well adhered to the food so that it doesn't slide off with the first bite. It's not oily at all. The chawanmushi is smooth and not rubbery at all, and the miso soup is so flavorful. The rice is delicious and cooked to perfection - soft but also balanced so that each grain is distinct and not mushy.

Ask the Community - Tendon Kohaku

For the party of 10 including a baby under 3, do they accept a reservation online? After you order food, how long will it take for the food come out?

I would think so if it's available. I'm not the person who made the reservation for our group of 6

When's the best day and time to go if I want to avoid a long wait? Also how long in advance can they take reservations? Can I do a party of 2-3 for the next day?

I feel like opening is a good time on weekdays, but it is hard to predict. You could go early and add yourself to the waitlist, but all members have to be present to be seated

The reservation page does not accept any reservation for months. Is it already closed for months out?

They don't take reservations for groups smaller than 5

What time do they open the waitlist in the morning? I want to get seated at the first round when they open at 11am?

If you show up at 10:30 am, you will be able to get seated.

For a party of one, would it still be a long wait time, or would it be easier to get in?

Easier. You'll still get in the queue but the bar seating will move you up the queue faster.

Can we make the reservation?

Yes, reservations are available if you google search. There is a "reserve a table option"

Do they do takeout orders?

They only do take out drinks and desserts. No take out real food

Are there gluten-free items on the menu?

Some of their appetizers, like the salmon carpaccio, are GF. Desserts are also GF. Unfortunately, a lot of Japanese curry roux and udon noodles have wheat in them, so those dishes might not be GF, but you can always ask the staff to confirm

How does their waitlist work? Do you have to physically wait outside the restaurant for your name to be called or do they have a system where they can text you when your table is about ready?

You physically wait outside the restaurant when (or before) they open, and you will be added to the waitlist in-person. Then, you can track your waitlist position online and come back to the restaurant when your table is ready.

Do they accept reservations?

I went the other day, and they told me that you can make reservations for a party of 5+!

Has the hype died down yet such that it's not crazy all evening?

My friend was there a few days ago and it was still pretty busy. I recommend calling ahead to get an estimated wait time!

Although it was pretty busy inside, we were able to be seated in about 10 minutes, which was great for a last minute decision for Shabu Shabu. I haven't done many Shabu Shabu places, but this one is a bit different since you get a set of vegetables and meat rather than ordering multiple rounds. The quality of the meat and vegetables, in my opinion, was much higher compared to those places where you're able to get multiple rounds of meat or select your own vegetables/sides. The broth (I had kombu) was pretty light, so it wasn't the best. The service was pretty friendly and the only fault to them was they didn't come around to refill our pots with hot water. The dressing was pretty good, not too overpowering of sesame. The crunchy tuna rice was really good (I really like crunchy rice) but it felt over priced. This could honestly be made at home. The shabu shabu was very impressive. I got the sukiyaki shabu shabu, which I think had the most flavor out of the ones my family got (spicy miso and original). The ponzu and nut sauce that comes with the dish is delicious as always, and the meat was really fun to cook.
