I love living in Boston.. but eating at Kobuta and Ookami actually made we want to move to Seattle, because the food was SO incredible. I legitimately ate there for dinner two nights in a row because I craved more immediately. The service was kind and fast, and it was a great place to chat and catch up with a friend. We didn't have to wait long to be seated as two people. I felt like I was back in Japan! I'll be having this food in my dreams...

This is one of my favorite restaurants on the Eastside. I recently visited again after having not been back in a while, and it did not disappoint. I got the nanban, which came with a layer of rice at the bottom, a layer of fried egg and the katsu on top with a generous amount of sauce, mayo and green onion. I made it a set which includes cabbage salad, and miso soup. I was absolutely delicious, the katsu was crunchy and not soggy. It came in a nice bowl plating. The portion size was good. The staff was very nice, cheery and the service was fast. The space is bright with modern decor and lighting, the noise level was moderate, making it a perfect spot for gathering or date night. The parking lot is small so I'd recommend carpooling or street parking nearby.

It was my first time at Kobuta & Ookami and I had the tonkatsu--it was amazing. The pork cutlet was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the flavor was really rich and satisfying. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared. The atmosphere was cozy and the food came out quickly. Definitely a great spot if you're craving comforting Japanese food. I'll be back to try more things on the menu!

Kobuta and Ookami is one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle! I've been to both locations now and I can gladly say they're both amazing. I come here probably almost every time I'm in town. The go to orders we get are usually the katsu nabe and oroshi katsu. I love that all their portions are huge and the cuts of meat are thick. The nabe is good because it's a nice refreshing soup to go with the katsu. I'm a fan of the grated radish so the other order we get is the oroshi katsu. The meats are always tender and juicy no matter what you order. Quick note: the location has limited parking because the parking lot is small.

This is Pork Katsu restaurant was something I have never seen before. The different choices on the menu for the pork was not the usual options. They are really good at making pork katsu. The curry is delicious and katsu nabe was so flavorful and filling. There are so many variations to try I must return.

TLDR: a flavor-filled experience with every bite. Quick, helpful service and a cozy atmosphere with booths, high tables, and bar seating. The curry is tomato-based and you can definitely taste it. It's also a little spiced. Comes w pickled peppers on the side with the meat and rice. Those are more on the sweet side. The kurobuta pork was crispy and tender. My only qualm was the thick piece of fat on one end of the cut. I prefer pork fat when it's softer. They also cut the pork into thick pieces when served. Might be more difficult for new chopstick users. Sesame dressing and katsu sauce are given table side so you can dress your own cabbage and meat. Large portions made it easy to take about half of it home. Lastly, there's construction right now so the parking lot is a little hard to get to and overall is quite small. My friend and I showed up right at dinner opening (5p) and there were already tables filled up with people.

A great place to eat! I love the ambience and the style they are going for. Walking in it feels almost like walking into a place in Japan. The service is very good. I think the choice in staff was well made as they were very quick to respond to calls as well as being on top of things going on at the table. The pork here is amazing. They do it very well and the different styles they have makes it for a great experience. Lots of different combinations of pork to style but they do make it simple. I would say the lacking point is in the side dishes like the karaage which just seems ok? Just go here for the pork and be happy with the experience.

Today it turned out to be a tonkatsu day, I.e. a very good day. The location is bigger than I expected and luckily we got seated immediately at the counter, despite it being full (around 1PM). Parking is pretty small, so if you're not lucky you might need to drive around to find street parking. Not optimal. Anyway, the menu is quite extensive, with many tonkatsu options. I got a kurobuta katsu menu and a side of menchi katsu. The kurobuta was a bit dry and not as fatty and juicy as I wished, but it was delicious nonetheless. Menchi katsu was very good, but not at the level of Saku in Vancouver, which IMHO is the best. Overall very good lunch in a friendly atmosphere with a Japanese vibe. Service was courteous and fast.

Located in a small plaza, there is a bit of parking out front but thankfully we found an open spot. We were instantly greeted the moment we walked in and got seated very promptly despite the Sunday lunch rush. The space was pretty spacious compared to their Capitol Hill location which was much appreciated. Bottle service for our two different Sake orders was honestly much appreciated and each recommendation did not disappoint. This time around, I ordered the Katsu Curry with Korubuta Pork as my choice of meat. The katsu hit just as much as my last visit at their other location with a nice outer crunch and meaty inside that was cooked just right. The curry was decadent with the mixed in chocolate and was very rich with flavor that complemented the fatty pork. Always a great experience eating at either of their locations.

Another spot that has been bookmarked for a little while. We stopped by for lunch and waited roughly 30 mins. My husband ordered the kurobuta and it paired super well with the tomato and cheese. The acidity from the tomato balanced the fried pork tenderloin. The katsudon was also perfect with the egg. I'm not a huge salad person but the sesame dressing got me to eat so much cabbage. Someone find me their formulation! Definitely recommend getting this one once in a while. There is a small parking lot but seems to be fairly full. We had a little trouble finding parking.

A Bit disappointed with my experience. I ordered the kurobuta karaage, but it turned out to be the worst dish. The pork itseld lack of favor and is so dry and hard to eat. The katsu itself is solid, neither good nor bad. For my taste, I feel like their sauce is too sour.

At a Japanese restaurant in general, if I'm not ordering sushi for my main meal, I'm ordering katsu, so I've been excited to try this spot since katsu is their specialty! They offer it in various styles with the main proteins being pork, chicken and shrimp (ebi). Other than the plain traditional katsu, you can get it with miso sauce, curry, in a broth (nabe) or with grated radish, just to name a few. If you opt for pork, they have a few different cuts, which range from Rosu (the fattiest), Kurobota (described as having the most flavorful meat and fat), and Hire (the leanest). We went for dinner on a Saturday and a line had already started to form when we arrived at 4:50P, 10 minutes before their 5:00P opening. By the time they opened, the line almost reached the street! Needless to say, almost all tables were occupied by the time everyone was seated. I like the assortment of seating from regular tables, booths, counter space and tall tables in the bar. Most katsu items come in a set with cabbage pickles, rice and miso soup, but these three sides are an extra $5 if you select a donburi or curry. KUROBUTA KATSU ($28): A meaty cutlet of pork was fried to perfection, boasting a crispy, radiant golden crust. The fry was light and didn't feel oily at all. I found a couple pieces to be fattier than I'd like, which is expected of the Kurobuta, but the meat was definitely tender as promised! The pieces are on the thicker side, but I didn't have trouble biting through them and the crust stayed intact, retaining its crunch for the duration of my meal. A small dish of sesame seeds came on the side with a wooden mortar to crush them. Our server instructed us to pour katsu sauce over the crushed seeds for dipping, which made for a perfect bite with the sweet sauce and slightly nutty sesame flavor. For a bit of heat, dab on a little mustard for a wasabi-like kick. The mound of cabbage was light and refreshing without any bitterness. I enjoyed it with a substantial drizzle of their sesame dressing that transformed it into a delicious slaw. My miso soup completed the meal and warmed me up. My mom enjoyed the chicken katsu which was very moist, and my sister liked the ebi that came with four large prawns. My dad thought the curry was just okay. The plate contained too much sauce for the amount of rice provided and he stated it had a sweeter taste whereas he would have preferred more spice. Since his curry didn't come in a set, this didn't seem worth the value either. The wait staff was friendly and efficient. They work as a good team between taking orders, bussing tables, refilling waters and managing payment. A couple of them checked on us a couple times and seemed to have a good system going. Katsu is tough to master, but this place does it right! I highly recommend just their plain traditional version, but am enticed to try their katsu with miso sauce next time. 4.25 stars.

4/5 overall Food: 5/5 My katsu was perfectly done! The meat and cheese ratio is perfect (for me, I love cheese! Others might prefer more meat in theirs). It's perfectly crispy and the cabbage salad is refreshing to pair with the oily entree. I also love that each set comes with your own bowl of rice and miso soup! Overall great price for the amount of food and quality! Ambiance: 4/5 Small restaurant but very clean and organized. They have booths and tall tables as well as a bar side table too! Perfect for all sizes (families w/kids, single eater, large groups, etc) Parking: 1/5 Seriously downside of this location is the limited parking.buou'll be lucky to grab a spot in the place. Otherwise you'll have to park across the street in the mall plaza or the neighborhood behind the restaurant
