Sesame seeds to bring, then add the tonkatsu sauce
    Ryan E.

Love this place. One of my favorite katsu places, including some I visited in Japan. I'm usually not a fan of tonkatsu sauce, but the sauce here is the best i've had, especially if you mix it with sesame seeds they give you to bring, The sesame dressing for the cabbage is also very good. I've only gotten the standard pork katsu so far, but I imagine their other offerings likely elevate things even more. The staff here is amazing. They are nice, friendly, and very efficient at their work. All of them, not just the servers but busers, janitor, cooks, everyone. The owner and managers must be very good at selecting the right staff and training them well. As an example, when I pulled out my credit card to pay, a server was there in literally 3 seconds to present me the bill. The restaurant is very cozy and not too loud. There is often a line here, but don't let that deter you. It moves fast, and people in line seem to be having fun. This is definitely on my list of one of my favorite restaurants in the Seattle area.

Easily the best pork katsu spot around Seattle.. The Capitol Hill location is great but almost always comes with a wait. First time trying the Redmond location and it was just as good (minus the wait). If it's your first time, go for the rosu or hire cutlet. I've tried the premium cuts like iberico and kurobuta, but honestly didn't find a huge difference in taste. What stands out is the texture--super crispy coating with juicy, tender pork inside. The sides and condiments are well thought out too. I'm a big fan of the tomato & cheese add-on. The curry add on, on the other hand, was too overpowering in flavor and masked the pork's natural flavor. Definitely a Seattle staple and worth checking out if you enjoy pork cutlet!

Decent katsu, tried the hire, korobuta and iberico. Iberico is clearly better since it's softer and higher quality. Service is decently fast. There can be a long wait time so prepare for that. I generally prefer my katsu with some sauce, so I'd recommend any of the saucier options. Plenty of parking nearby.

I love living in Boston.. but eating at Kobuta and Ookami actually made we want to move to Seattle, because the food was SO incredible. I legitimately ate there for dinner two nights in a row because I craved more immediately. The service was kind and fast, and it was a great place to chat and catch up with a friend. We didn't have to wait long to be seated as two people. I felt like I was back in Japan! I'll be having this food in my dreams...

This is one of my favorite restaurants on the Eastside. I recently visited again after having not been back in a while, and it did not disappoint. I got the nanban, which came with a layer of rice at the bottom, a layer of fried egg and the katsu on top with a generous amount of sauce, mayo and green onion. I made it a set which includes cabbage salad, and miso soup. I was absolutely delicious, the katsu was crunchy and not soggy. It came in a nice bowl plating. The portion size was good. The staff was very nice, cheery and the service was fast. The space is bright with modern decor and lighting, the noise level was moderate, making it a perfect spot for gathering or date night. The parking lot is small so I'd recommend carpooling or street parking nearby.

It was my first time at Kobuta & Ookami and I had the tonkatsu--it was amazing. The pork cutlet was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the flavor was really rich and satisfying. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared. The atmosphere was cozy and the food came out quickly. Definitely a great spot if you're craving comforting Japanese food. I'll be back to try more things on the menu!

Kobuta and Ookami is one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle! I've been to both locations now and I can gladly say they're both amazing. I come here probably almost every time I'm in town. The go to orders we get are usually the katsu nabe and oroshi katsu. I love that all their portions are huge and the cuts of meat are thick. The nabe is good because it's a nice refreshing soup to go with the katsu. I'm a fan of the grated radish so the other order we get is the oroshi katsu. The meats are always tender and juicy no matter what you order. Quick note: the location has limited parking because the parking lot is small.

This is Pork Katsu restaurant was something I have never seen before. The different choices on the menu for the pork was not the usual options. They are really good at making pork katsu. The curry is delicious and katsu nabe was so flavorful and filling. There are so many variations to try I must return.

I've been here once before and I enjoyed it, so I've been wanting to come back. I went here over the weekend about 30 min after opening. It was starting to get busy but we were seated immediately at the bar area. This place doesn't have a whole lot of normal seating, and I believe most of the people waiting were larger parties waiting for those. But a party of two or so can get in fairly quickly if you don't mind sitting on a stool. The service was great. The workers were on top of everything. From seating, to the menu, to refilling water, and they often checked up on us. The food came out fairly quickly after ordering too. Maybe about 5 min. I ordered the kurobuta katsu nabe. It's actually not what I wanted, but that's completely my fault for ordering the wrong thing. The dish was served on this huge tray with the contents boiling in a clay pot over fire. Aesthetically, it looked amazing. It seemed like a soup with katsu on top. The katsu was thick and I had to pull it out to help keep it from getting soggy. The portion of the whole dish was huge. It was hard to finish it all. But everything was delicious despite the mix-up. My cousin got the kurobuta katsu nanban, which was actually what I wanted. The portion was also huge, but less veggies that make it filling. I enjoyed her dish even more than mine. It had all sorts of flavors going in that mesh very well together. I'd like to come back again. Maybe try out the Seattle location. And hopefully I'll remember to get the katsu nanban or might switch it up to the katsu curry.

They offer a wide variety of katsu options, and I really appreciate that you can even choose the type of pork depending on your preference. It's nice to have that level of customization instead of just a standard cut everywhere. I tried the katsu nabe, which is served simmered in a hot pot with egg and broth. The crispy katsu soaks up all the flavor from the soup, making it extra tender and comforting. The broth reminded me a lot of sukiyaki -- slightly sweet and savory with that rich soy-based depth. It's especially perfect for winter or colder days when you want something warm and satisfying. We went on a weekday for dinner, which I'd definitely recommend. I've heard the lines can get really long on weekends, and even on a weekday it was fairly busy. Overall, a cozy spot with comforting food -- I'd come back to try other katsu options next time.

    Kurobata pork with curry set
    Arielle M.

TLDR: a flavor-filled experience with every bite. Quick, helpful service and a cozy atmosphere with booths, high tables, and bar seating. The curry is tomato-based and you can definitely taste it. It's also a little spiced. Comes w pickled peppers on the side with the meat and rice. Those are more on the sweet side. The kurobuta pork was crispy and tender. My only qualm was the thick piece of fat on one end of the cut. I prefer pork fat when it's softer. They also cut the pork into thick pieces when served. Might be more difficult for new chopstick users. Sesame dressing and katsu sauce are given table side so you can dress your own cabbage and meat. Large portions made it easy to take about half of it home. Lastly, there's construction right now so the parking lot is a little hard to get to and overall is quite small. My friend and I showed up right at dinner opening (5p) and there were already tables filled up with people.

Visited twice in last 6months after moving.. gotta say such a good food for winter months and especially after a long hike - very filling, very staff, they tell you how to eat if you don't knew or first trying kobuta and ambiance is small and fun

A great place to eat! I love the ambience and the style they are going for. Walking in it feels almost like walking into a place in Japan. The service is very good. I think the choice in staff was well made as they were very quick to respond to calls as well as being on top of things going on at the table. The pork here is amazing. They do it very well and the different styles they have makes it for a great experience. Lots of different combinations of pork to style but they do make it simple. I would say the lacking point is in the side dishes like the karaage which just seems ok? Just go here for the pork and be happy with the experience.

It was the first dish that came out, so I ended up having pretty high expectations for the rest of the meal. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal did not live up to those high expectations. I ordered the unagi char siew which seemed really popular here and on Google, but it was just OK and a bit too salty for me. The wagyu udon was also just OK, but the soft boiled egg tasted like one of those preserved soft-boiled eggs you can buy pre-packaged at the store (weirdly rubbery and vinegary tasting). If I ever came back, it would probably just be for karaage and drinks. The drink pictured here is the hot chocolate hojicha, which was solid. I like their creative drink combinations and how they serve them--this one had a chocolate-covered marshmallow floating on top which was nice.

We were reminded by the text system a day and an hour in advance, and since it's tucked away in a plaza in Redmond, it's got plenty of parking. The only issue you may have is not knowing where the door is, because there's no big sign - the towa sign next to the doorway is smaller than the window panel in the door. When you step in, you feel a sense of quiet and calm - because that's what it is. Nori Morita (of the I love sushi group in Bellevue) runs a music-less, authentic Japanese kaiseki experience here. There's 6 seats at the counter, and maybe about 10-12 seats in the surrounding tables. It's a small space but it doesn't feel cramped. There's one all-gender bathroom and one single-stall female bathroom at the very back. Service throughout the meal was generally polite, courteous, and proactive. My water glass and the missus' tea were never left below half. They cleared each course quickly as we finished it, and the meal pacing is such that Nori can keep up with you, even if he's making all six counter dishes and all 12 table dishes at once. It's kind of like a maestro orchestra, but he has plenty of helpers - at least two wait staff, and an additional one or two sous chefs that are handling the auxiliary things around him. Food: while the meal was overall satisfying and filling, there was no standout highlight, or any particular dish that disappointed. It wasn't "meh", but it didn't really wow either the missus or I. I'm sure it'll be forgettable in a few weeks, which is the main reason for 4 stars - it's a bit more pricey than I'd expect for something this high quality. It qualifies for top 10 Omakase / Kaiseki in Seattle by nature of having high end ingredients and baseline high service quality, but those are table stakes given the competition.. The Miyazaki A5 wagyu was genuinely a decent portion size, but given that I've had it before, I guess maybe I expected a deeper flavour profile? The dish that I enjoyed the novelty the most was the Shabu Shabu king salmon - being able to eat sashimi-grade King salmon that you dip into boiling hot soup was a fun treat that definitely elevated the fattiness in the taste profile. Drinks: besides water, the missus ordered the hot hojicha tea, and I got the seasonal sake flight for $39. It was a decent selection, but it was heavily overpriced for the quality of sake and the amount you got. At most I'd expect to pay $25 for four 2oz pours, especially since one overlaps with Ltd Edition (kokuryu - black dragon). Verdict: it's lower half of the top 10 in Seattle - but it's still worth going if you want to celebrate something with high quality service and ingredients. I personally probably wouldn't do the $250 version again, but I'd be interested in doing the other ones. We both enjoyed ourselves - but idk if it's worth $700 for two people (service charge of 20% is added, plus tax...), so take that for what you will. Fun coincidence: all three couples seated at the counter when we were there were celebrating an anniversary - 11th for the farther couple, and 18th for the couple next to us. So for what it's worth - this place is definitely a destination for those that want to celebrate something.

Upon arrival, a printed menu was waiting at our table listing each course, which I thought was a thoughtful touch. In a way, I know what we would be having that evening and able to take it home as a memory of the experience. I recommend Towa for a special occasion, celebration dinner, or anyone looking for an elevated dining experience in the area.
