Hakka House is a hidden gem with great vibes for authentic Taiwanese comfort food. I ordered the Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup along with the Braised Beef Tendon and Beef Brisket, and both dishes were outstanding. The broth in the noodle soup was rich, flavorful, and clearly simmered with care, while the beef was tender and packed with flavor. The braised tendon and brisket were equally impressive, perfectly cooked with that melt-in-your-mouth texture you hope for in a traditional Taiwanese dish. What really made the experience special was the owner, who is from Taiwan and incredibly friendly and welcoming. You can tell there is a lot of pride and authenticity behind the food. The portions were very generous, especially considering the fair prices, making it one of the best values I've found for Taiwanese cuisine. If you're looking for authentic flavors, hearty portions, and warm hospitality, Hakka House is absolutely worth a visit. I'll definitely be coming back to try more of the menu. read more

Chinese restaurant in downtown Redmond. There's street parking and public lots that offer 2hr free parking nearby. Mid size restaurant with off-white interior. Went for early dinner on a Saturday and then place was pretty empty, but filled up when 6pm rolled around. From the name, this restaurant serves Hakka cuisine. The menu has some similarities to Cantonese cuisine. My group was hungry and ordered a whole bunch of dishes, all of which were served very quickly. They also include a bowl of house soup for each person. The soup we got was pork and lotus root soup, which was pretty tasty and they said they added some fish sauce for umami flavor. For the dishes, the pork belly with preserved vegetables had good flavor, although the pork could be more tender. The fried rice also tasted good, but was a little clumpy. The salt chicken was pretty standard and decent. Their sweet and sour chicken was not bad actually. My favorite were the crispy duck and crispy beef brisket. Not sure if the crispy beef is authentic Hakka food, but the beef was tender. A little bit like fully cooked gyukatsu. We also had a plate of stir fried cabbage and that was solid. This place has officially become a new favorite for my family. Almost every single dish we tried was fantastic. The only one I wouldn't bother with is the wonton soup, the broth was extremely bland, and the wontons tasted heavily of celery. If you're a celery fan, you might enjoy it, but if not, definitely skip it. Everything else, though, was genuinely impressive. The tofu dish came out sizzling hot with great flavor, and every plate we ordered hit the mark. As far as the interior, Hard to believe this used to be a Mexican restaurant, you'd never guess from how polished and inviting it feels now. Remodel looked great. Old place was darker vibe and this is much lighter. The servers were wonderful too. There were plenty of them, they took great care of us, and they walked us through the menu since it was our first visit. I think this is the third iteration of this Hakka restaurant. It used to be across the street before moving to Bellevue near Uwajimaya and returning to across the street from its original location. The menu is somewhat similar and super delicious. I am half Hakka so I can definitely say the dishes reminded me of home cooking. All the dishes are incredibly delicious. I'm so glad to find this restaurant again in the Eastside! I used to come to its older location, Eastern Pearl, before it moved to Bellevue, and I loved the dim sum and breakfast items. I visited this restaurant last Wednesday, and was impressed by the great service despite coming in an hour before closing. There was plenty of seating, and a complimentary bowl of lotus soup was served before ordering our dishes. My family and I ordered 5 dishes (pan fried buns not pictured). All the dish portions are family size, and tasted like home. I was most impressed by the spicy chicken dish. It wasn't spicy, but the chicken is super tender while also having a nice, crispy breading. The sauce was amazing, kind of like a sweet, garlic with a light soy sauce flavor. I felt like I could keep eating the food even after feeling full! I also loved the silverware/plating! The dishes are like large flower petals, and the individual plates and utensils are minimalist. We visited on Friday evening, with three adults and one child, and it was a very nice experience. We arrive and were seated right away, the place was almost completely full. Water was brought quickly, in a tea pot, but it took a bit to get a waiter for other drinks. We started with appetizers; Pot Stickers, Meat Dumplings, Scallion Pancake, Guo Gee, and Pan Fried Buns. They were all tasty and well prepared. From there we had Hakka Spicy Crispy Chicken, Hakka Beef, and Crispy Duck, along with white rice. Everything was excellent. The service was good, but sporadic. The bussers kept the tables cleared of dishes, but there were times when we had to wave down waiters to check on drinks and delayed items. Overall, excellent place for Chinese fare. read more

Very happy they're back in town - I went on their closing day when they were still in Bellevue a couple years ago. Food is still as good as it was, the lunch sets are good value and I loved the Beef Chow Fun, the free soup that came with it, and the Beef Noodle Soup. I also got the stuffed tofu on a sizzling plate and my friends loved the onions on that dish. Service is typical of that of a Chinese restaurant but they are efficient and attentive. Food tastes very authentic and I have never ordered something I didn't like from there. The Dim Sum tastes very fresh and would recommend trying some of the dim sum. Idk why, they put one person in charge of pushing cart that is below average of slow. Where there are a few servers that are free to assist lol. That dim sum cart lady took a while to do a 360 loops. Happy to discover this new gem! If you are walking to the restaurant, there isn't any signage visible on the street at the moment (the establishment's name is above the sidewalk awning) but it's next to Palmer's and has an adorable wooden door. We were seated quickly, which felt lucky considering there were parties at nearly every table. Service was fast, and possibly a little disjointed as three separate people asked if we wanted water as they walked by. Cannot find any fault in their attention to customers! The owner stopped by a few times while we ate, too, to check on us. He is super friendly, and obviously loves his restaurant and what he is doing. I think nearly every table had an order of their stuffed tofu, and for good reason. It's delicious! Order a bowl of rice to eat with it- I like the practice of setting saucy food on the rice and letting it season the bowl, the sauce is too good to waste on a bare plate. (My sister lived in Hong Kong for a few years and was very impressed with my photo of this dish- I think her exact words were "Yeung tofu?! That's hard core." It's not often you find Chinese food this authentic here, as the owner was proud to point out.) Our second dish was the Hawaiian noodle cake with crispy guo gee. The noodles were thin wheat noodles that had been cooked before being set in a hot pan to crisp the bottom. I really loved the mixture of crispy and soft, it's not a dish I had heard of before. The noodles were topped with chicken, pork, shrimp, five-spice BBQ pork, and broccoli in a brown sauce. The guo gee were square wonton wrappers filled with seasoned pork and deep fried. After a brief 20 min drive the food was still hot, flavorful, and crispy. Honestly everything was delicious. Not one bad dish of the bunch - but tops was the sizzling black pepper beef ribs. We go to Redmond all the time and had no idea this place had opened up. There are plenty of Chinese places in the area, but we were so excited to see a place serving dim sum. We have found it difficult to get our hands on good dim sum despite all of the Chinese places unless we go to the International District in Seattle. We ordered some dim sum to go as well as congee. This place also has classic Taiwanese food, which we are quite excited to try when we come back. Very friendly service, and we were able to order, which can be very difficult at a dim sum place. They do not have a huge dim sum menu, but what they do offer is excellent. We tried the fennel and shrimp dumplings, the crispy chive (with shrimp) dumplings, the red bean and sesame balls (a classic!), steamed pork buns, and steamed sponge cake. I disagree with Jason L's point of view. This is extremely unfair, especially to the servers pushing the dim sum carts. A closer look reveals that the cart wheels are faulty. Add to that the limited space and the need to carefully push the carts to avoid burning customers--these are all challenges they face. Before resorting to personal attacks or complaints, please consider the server's perspective. Only then can you truly understand the difficulties they face, instead of making unfair accusations. It's clear she works very hard and already tries her best. Be kind and treat others the way you want to be treated. However, the food tasted so yummy. read more

A new place in downtown Redmond. There is public parking that is free for 2 hours a couple of blocks away. The food was alright. I am not sure what the hype is about. Hakka food seem bland to me. We ordered the Hakka special - tofu with pork (ok). Hawaiian crispy Gao Gee noodles (ok) as well. Salt fish fried rice (good) is the better out of the dishes we ordered. Starting tip was 12%. We've enjoyed both takeout orders and were able to try: stuffed tofu, mixed seasonal veg, crispy spicy chicken, Chinese broccoli in garlic sauce, shrimp egg roll, stir-fry noodle with barbecue meats, generals chicken chicken. The generals chicken is thin strips and has a heavy battery. I assume they same style prep for their sweet and sour chicken. It was a bit chewy, but the sauce had good flavor. For the shrimp egg roll, the focus is on the shrimp, and the simple sweet and sour sauce paired nicely. All vegetable dishes were well prepared. We enjoyed the garlic sauce. Crispy spicy chicken is worth getting and for takeout, they packaged the sauce separately. Very thoughtful. Stuffed tofu, very comforting. Will order again. The noodles were fine. Well prepared and the proteins were cooked wonderfully. It is a mild flavored dish. I like the remodel they've done, and the service was friendly during pick-up. read more
