A delicious little gem of a spot to grab some takeout buns! We came in the morning to grab a quick bite and we loved the various different buns! It was self serve and very affordable. Service was friendly. There wasn't any indoor seating but a few outdoor tables, we just ate in our car. They have a little parking lot so parking was easy to find. Buns were all tasty, we definitely liked the savory ones more than the sweet ones. We also got the soy milk which was cold (I wish they had a hot option for the cold days) and we got a tea egg which had really good flavor. read more

What a hidden gem! They serve bao buns in a grab and go style, similar to Chinese bakeries. Super affordable and delicious, each bun was around $2, and you can get more for a discount. TL;DR: home, authentic buns; don't expect your taste buds to be flavor blasted. Affordable and filling. Hit or miss if they have sweet buns. Parking: small shared lot. Atmosphere: a very much grab and go kinda of place. Almost feels like a minimart or deli. Menu: No real menu, just names of the food items taped to the walls above the heated self serve containers. Sadly there were no sweet buns (only meat buns) there when I want mid day on a weekend. I was very disappointed -- I was looking forward to egg custard or red bean or anything sweet really. I presume they sold out but it was only 12pm when I went. Price points are reasonable but I do wish there was just a tad more filing in the buns. Service: pretty straight forward; walk in, grab a ToGo container and a pair of tongs, choose your buns, pay at the counter. Rest assured, all buns taste like their names. Pork and Corn is pork and corn. Beef and Green Onion is beef and green onion. The meat is a tiny bit on the dry side but still palatable and definitely good if you are looking for that homemade taste. These buns are not Americanized, overly flavorful buns. Don't get your expectations up. Nothing is bad, but nothing is special either. You can probably get the similar level of buns at any dim sum places. Out of all the 4 savory buns and 3 sweet buns, we liked the salted egg custard the best. That one is worth coming back for. Sesame one was our least favorite because it wasn't moist at all and was kinda bitter. Any buns with pork pretty much tasted exactly the same. So just pick one pork and one beef if you want a different flavor. Maho tofu one was not bad, but not great either. They also have cold side dishes (some sort of Chinese veggie dishes, chicken feet, beef) besides these buns, but we didn't try it. The buns are sooo good! The outside dough is soft and fluffy and the savory filling inside is packed with flavor. They also manage to keep the filling super moist inside. The buns are $2.19 each or $19.99 if you buy 20. They are huge and such a great deal. I would pass on the fresh soy milk though, it had a weird taste to it. Not sure why ratings are so low. This place is a hole in the wall shop that sells some Chinese cold delicacies but mainly steamed buns and soy milk. The buns are huge (like the size of an adult fist) and cheap like $3-4. Are they the best buns I've had? We saw this place as we passed by and decided to check them out. They are new and replaced a bakery that was once there. The main focus here is the buns, but they are putting refrigerated food items as well. They had a selection of 12 buns (8 savory and 4 sweet). We got all of them to tried. My favorite out of the savory ones were actually the vegetarian ones as they were more memorable for me but all of them were pretty good. The buns not too thick, the filling is a mixed, some had a lot of fillings while others didn't. The sweet ones were also good. My favorite was definitely the salted egg custard one. Do wish there was more custard but it was yummy. My second favorite was the black sesame one and they definitely filled that one. If you like black sesame, this one is definitely a good one. Delicious buns, hot and fresh! Came in because they had fresh soy milk and open really but that wasn't the highlight. We got pork scallion buns and they were delightful. We got the soy milk which was unsweetened but the lady added sugar for us. She was very sweet and helpful. The soy milk was a little overcooked but it was still awesome compared to store bought bottles. The buns were so good we came back again 2 days later and ordered extras. I did encounter a problem with the order though. The first time I went in, there exactly 4 pork scallion buns, so the next time I knew I wanted more so I ordered online via Chowbus. There was a link to Chowbus online ordering from Google. When I arrived, the same lady said that there was no Chowbus orders, in fact they don't even use Chowbus anymore, only Fantuan and Uber Eats. She was more than helpful, got my buns for me and told me to just call next time as it would be cheaper, while I tried to cancel the Chowbus. The buns were so great, the whole family loved them. The only available dishes on Friday afternoon were bao zi- steamed buns. Pork fillings vary in size. I had a meaty one, my daughter had a small one. The mapo tofu flavor is my favorite, but really all the savory ones are great. Shelves were bare with the exception of warmers for the buns. There is a smattering of refrigerated boxed foods and soy milk in one shelf on our second visit. Boxes are now plastic, not styrofoam. At $2.19 a bun and $19.99 for 10, it's a good value. This place is amazing. I discovered it last weekend with my husband when I was severely disappointed by the cold buns on offer at Asian Family Market, and have been back twice already. So far we've tried the pork and chives and mapo tofu, and we have an assortment of others that we are looking forward to digging into. Stopped by for a quick to-go meal. Everything is self serve, which I'm always unsure whether we are doing at this stage of covid. The savory buns tasted simple and straightforward. I needed some spicy fish sauce to jazz things up. The sesame bun was one I was excited for, but it was a disappointment. The filling was gritty rather than smooth and velvety and I wasn't a fan. I asked about drinks and was told they only have beer, which was a let down. As I was checking out, I saw a container with a fried flatbread looking thing and asked what it was. The server said it was a beef roll. I asked if I could order one. She just handed me that one and said it was made fresh. I don't doubt her, but I was wondering why it was just sitting on the counter by itself. The items in the fridge didn't have labels which made it really difficult to pick something from there. Came across this newly opened (just for a month) steamed bun shop in Redmond (same plaza as the Malay Hut). I got 10 buns for $15.99 and there were about 12 different types of buns, sweet and savory. The salted lava egg type was very good, just like the ones you can get from dim sum. The buns are more northern style, so none of those dim sum bbq type but they have vegetarian options.
