I'm torn between a 3 & 4 because the food is always good. We frequent often and love the food and have never had bad service until the night that mattered. My son graduated and I made reservations here in advance and called to ask about a table for 10, and if they could accommodate us and they said they could. Great! And I separately called about wanting to bring cupcakes and if that was allowed and they were cool with that, so super! It is one of my son's favorite spots so when the evening arrived, we got to the restaurant only to be led to a table that seated 6 in one corner and 4 kitty corner from that table. So...a family gathering had to be split, with 4 of us not even being at the same table as my son-including me. Mom. And in order to be close to him I sat with my back turned from him. Not ideal at all. So I was definitely miffed by this. I approached someone about it-not sure if he's the manager or not but he was very apologetic about it and said that they don't have seating for 10 at one table. But they tried their best by putting us all in the corner together. Not the same thing unfortunately as we could not all celebrate or converse all together. I told him that I had called specifically asking if they could accommodate 10 and I was assured they could but I did not know I had to ask "at the same table?". They should have been forthcoming that it would be at two different tables otherwise I would have made a reservation elsewhere for the celebration. What could I do but just accept his apology? But then, with a party of 10, I would think we would get extra attention but I guess since tip is already included after 5 in a party, they just called it in because I had to ask for more plates, more napkins, spoons, & water because the setting at the table was for 2, and we had 4. No one even asked us if we needed any more broth nor did they ever come to ask if anyone wanted a refill of the AYCE meats. Not that we could eat anymore but no one even offered. And, since everyone had to order the same meat plates, and one person wanted the wagyu, we all had to get wagyu at our table. Doesn't seem fair to me especially when they don't even offer more but I guess that's policy. When my son and I come in by ourselves, they are very attentive and always ask us if we need more of anything. But it was hard to find anyone to come to our table. They never checked on us after they brought the broth and meats the one time. So let me say I was very upset that the tip was included because really, no one served us unless we asked for more things. No one checked on us. Then I had to go and find someone so we could pay our bill. They apologized again for not seating us together but what could I say at that point? I'm not going to make a scene but it ruined a special night when all of the family couldn't sit together. I've had such a great experience every time I've come here! The all-you-can-eat option is amazing, and the food is consistently delicious. We usually don't have to wait too long especially on weekdays, which is a huge plus. The service really stands out-- everyone is so kind and attentive. There's many hot pot spots around Sea-Town but Shaburina stands out among the crowd! Great AYCE price point ($39.95 for their regular meat selection) and the quality of meat is bar none the best. Also love the assortment of fresh veggies and seafood and the sauce bar is excellent. The service is minimal since you can now do all the ordering on a table-side touchpad but the servers who do help were great. Still the great lively atmosphere and the interior is very clean. My only pitfall is they stopped giving you your comp soft serve in a cone but no biggie. Definitely can't wait to go back! read more

First time here!!! This was the most impressive dinner experience I've ever had. The place was full and yet we were seated within 10 minutes. The owner himself, Terrance, greeted us and explained how to order. The ordering system is sleek! Very easy to order and to get refills using the tablet at each table. The food and combination of flavors is exquisite, an adventure and just plain fun. From the first to the last bite my mouth was bursting was flavor!! The price is very good considering the high quality meats and buffet bar! The restaurant is clean and the seating is done very well. My first Hot Pot experience ever. The restaurant was modern and clean . Each person can choose their broth from the menu. The popular one is the Original Konbu. I ordered the spicy Miso. Order meats thru the iPad and choose if you want the house or premium meats AYCE. We got the a House course. You can order beef or pork lean if you want. Then go to the vegetable bar buffet and noodle bar to make your selections. Lots of choices. Go to the sauce bar and create your own sauce for dipping after the ingredients are cooked. I recommend adding the fried garlic to your sauce. Your Meats are brought to you by the server and you can start dropping the ingredients in the cooking broth which smells so heavenly. Shabu Shabu is so delicious ....especially on a cold day. The only thing was that the rice was a little mushy for my liking. Definitely coming back! read more

I can honestly say this is my first review--ever. Hands down best shabu shabu I've ever had--and I'm from Hawaii. My daughter and I arrived before 8pm and were disappointed to learn that they weren't taking anymore patrons. But the gentleman whom I can only assume was the owner allowed us to dine after learning we were visiting and his hospitality and staff service were top notch. The food is downright delicious. Plain and simple. Great quality, fresh, and soup base--tasty. Not to mention great sauces for dipping and the owner made a great concoction that I thoroughly enjoyed. The soup pots are also personal sized which is nice with dietary restrictions or different tastes, but ultimately they are a bit small in size. Stopped by for lunch with family and really enjoyed our food! Our Seattle family took us here because it's their fave. We went on a Sunday and it did take a while to get seated for a party of 5 during lunchtime. You order on the touchscreen device that's at the table. Because of this it did take a while to get the servers' attention and for extra stuff we ordered to come out. We got the all you can eat beef and it was good! I couldn't even order more because I could barely finish the first portion given. The original broth was pretty good, super flavorful when letting the beef fat sit in the broth. Meat was in the fatter and harder side unfortunately. The chef's choice sauce was surprisingly very good, I'm bro sure what it was but I enjoyed it. This was actually my first time having Shabu-Shabu and the staff was very polite and helpful and explaining how to order and how it worked here. I got the original kombu broth and had a great time getting to pick my own vegetables and sides to cook in the broth. You order the meat via a screen at the table, so as other reviewers have mentioned it can sometimes be hard to flag someone down outside of using this device. All in all though, this is a nice spot that I could definitely see myself coming back to with friends, especially if you want to have a relatively uninterrupted dining experience and go at your own pace. One other thing that I always appreciate is that parking here was very easy and also free. I've been coming here since the Mikey video -- at least 4 years now -- and I honestly don't know what happened. Did they change ownership? Management? Because this was not the same experience I've come to expect. SERVICE: Service used to be consistently great. Today it was... rough. We had to ask for water every single time, waited over 30 minutes for meat refills, and had to flag down our server just to get noticed. I ordered two plates (fine), then two sets for my dining companions -- that took 35 minutes and came missing one of the meats. Ordered another two sets that never arrived at all. The restaurant was only about 50% full (Saturday around 5:30-6pm), so being "busy" wasn't an excuse. Our server seemed more focused on cleaning empty tables than checking on the ones with guests still eating. With tablets for ordering, I don't get how the service could be this slow. FOOD: We usually get the "House Course." Normally, the meat arrives nicely chilled -- slightly frozen, which helps keep the fatty cuts intact. This time, though, everything felt wet, like it had been pre-sliced hours ago and left sitting out. The tonkatsu broth was still great, and the bar for veggies was okay (though a little sparse). But several sauce bottles were completely empty. AMBIANCE: Our table looked clean at first glance, but the sides near the temp control were sticky, the ladle handle was splintering, and it was damp. The real dealbreaker though -- the restroom. I know it's shared with the spot next door, but it was genuinely unpleasant: no toilet paper, sticky floor, and no hand soap. That's a serious concern when staff are handling raw meats, veggies, and sauces. Overall, I left disappointed. This is our go to hot pot spot. The broth is really great, and the options are good. Meat is also really good, but we always get the premium. The service was not bad before, but when we went recently like 1-2 months ago, it was terrible. There was like 1 person assisting all the tables, so it was hard to get help. They also use to hand out complimentary soft serve before in a cone and they don't do that anymore, which is a bummer. Last time, they didn't give us soft serve at all. We will be back cause we love the food, but if they don't improve some of the service eventually we will probably go elsewhere since other spots are more competitive with service and options. read more

This is my second visit to Shaburina, as recommended by a local friend. There is parking in the garage and you sinply walk outside to enter the restaurant. I really like this place, not only for the ambiance with their clean large space with hanging round lanterns, but also for the food. This round we came for lunch with an all you can eat special of $35 for the house lunch and a few other options. What especially impresses me is the bar where you can select your own veggies, noodles, seafood, sauces, etc. my favorites include the selection of different noodles and the scallops and clams. The meat is ordered at your table from your server and the still is very good about asking if you would like more and clearing plates as well as making sure your drink is never low. I would probably say one of the best hot pots in the area. I love the buffet style for vegetables, sauces, meat balls, sea food, wonton, noodles etc. You can take as much or as little as you like, usually you order it and they'll bring you a plate full. That always stopped me from ordering certain items, as I don't really want a whole bowl or plate of those little extras. Here, you take your plate and get whatever you like, I was finally able to try some items I would normally not order in a standard setting. You have the option between standard meat at $39 or premium at $55, the pricing level applies to the complete table. You can choose you own soup base and they are small individual pots for each person. I do wish there would a bit more variety in the medium spicy soup, but you can always grab chilies of the buffet and mix yourself. 90min table limit. Staff was super friendly and they come around and ask if you need meat regularly. Tip is included for 5+ tables and they do split checks, super nice. I guess the only downside is parking, the lot in the garage is small and only allows 90min??? I feel 2h would be much better. I know they only allow 90min per table anyway, but by the time you park, wait for your table, sit down, eat etc... 2h are over and we kind of were on edge if we are going to find a ticket on our car. If they could work with the owners of the building on changing to 2h, that would relax people more. read more

I tried the premium ayce course, which was $55 for dinner. Overall, I found the quality of the beef to be disappointing for the price. There were two beef options, a leaner one and a fattier one. The leaner one has very little marbling and has one main strip of fat that goes through the slice. It was sliced a bit weirdly because the left side of each piece was sliced against the grain whereas the right side was sliced along the grain. This resulted in a really tough texture for the beef. I think that it was not particularly enjoyable to eat, but it was edible. I forgot to take a picture, but I feel like the fattier cut was probably ~75% fat. There were some nicely marbled sections which were surrounded by thick borders of pure fat. I thought this one was kind of inedible as is, and I had to pick off the pure fat parts in order to stomach it. I reluctantly ate the 2 plates of fatty beef that they gave us to start with to avoid food waste and avoided ordering more. Regarding the broth, I felt that it was ok, but not great. I got the sukiyaki broth and I felt that it was too sweet. It was salty but it was kind of lacking umami/depth of flavor. Not sure if I got unlucky with the cuts of beef that I got, but I felt disappointed, considering that these were the premium choices. For 55$ pp, I think that there are better options for hot pot. read more

We have been longtime customers, but unfortunately won't be returning after our most recent visit. The service was shockingly bad. We arrived early on Saturday around 4:30 PM and ordered the standard AYCE hot pot. After finishing the first round of meat, we placed an order for the second round and patiently waited over 35 minutes with no sign of food. We eventually flagged down a server to check on the order and to ask for water refills. The server seemed completely uninterested, brought an incomplete order, and walked off before we could ask any questions. That ended up being the last time anyone came by our table. We submitted a few more orders in hopes something might arrive, but nothing ever did. The staff completely disappeared, and our AYCE experience ended after barely a round and a half. Throughout the meal there was zero communication, no follow-up, and not even the most basic service like refilling water. We finally had to track someone down just to pay and leave. What made it worse was that the restaurant wasn't even busy, maybe half full at best. It was clear the staff simply didn't care. On top of that, the food quality has noticeably declined. The usual cuts were below par, and the "OKAY" health code rating posted by the door didn't inspire confidence, which was exactly why we had waited three months before returning, after the previous visit left me feeling sick. Seeing that they had received poor inspection results for food handling and temperature control explained a lot. Shaburina in Bellevue, WA, is an AYCE Japanese style individual hot pot restaurant, serving up a limited selection of thinly sliced meats along with a very diverse list of fresh ingredients, self-served from a buffet. We found it to be a great all-around experience during Christmas Day. Shaburina was one of the first restaurants we went to on our first visit to the Seattle area more than 3 years ago, when trying to collaboratively find an apartment for my daughter's first full-time job. It was before I began to help record my journey on Yelp, so don't really have a strong memory of it except that it was AYCE and was on the pricey side. So when the opportunity arose to find a place for a Christmas meal that we would really enjoy, we decided to go back on memory lane by taking a walk for lunch. They were open for Christmas Day, with last seating at 3:30 pm (allowing the restaurant to close by 5 pm). This is an individual hot pot restaurant, with each person getting their own 'hot pot'. This means that the number of seating is perhaps less than what you would expect of the space, and it was fairly popular on this holiday. Even then, the host was gracious in helping us find a table, and we ended up only waiting less than 15 minutes. The menu is accessed through a QR code and is simpler than most. I appreciated that they didn't jack the price up for Christmas, instead it was typical lunch pricing: choice of the house course ($35 per person), Buffet Bar Only ($28), or the Premium Course ($50 for wagyu beef and Kurobuta pork). Everyone at the table must get the same thing. We got the house course. There are four choices of broth for all items, and between the 3 of us, we got the original (unami gotten through bonito and kelp) and spicy miso (unami gotten through fermented soy bean). The broth for me got tastier as I kept cooking fatty beef and pork into it, but never so good to challenge a decent soup. The induction burners work really well, with easily adjustable heat level Shabu-shabu is a Japanese style of Asian Hot Pot, emphasizing the cooking of very thinly sliced meats by 'swishing' it through the broth with tongs or chop sticks, eating the meat as you cook it. You don't want to over cook the meat here..it will shrivel up and become tough. I was good about this in the beginning, and the meat was good, but as I ordered the refill(s), I wasn't as careful and the meat became chewy and tough. I would recommend the beef shortplate and pork belly (other two choices being chuck and pork shoulder), cooking it very quickly and not letting it sit in the broth...or just upgrading to the premium course where a better grade of meat with more fat makes it a more 'premium' experience. I loved the self service buffet, with the requisite sauce bar (which my wife and daughter used and liked), a small selection of vegetables (bokchoy, napa cabbage, chrysanthemum, bean sprouts, tomato, tofu, squash, corn, fried tofu, potato, mushrooms, konyaku, and mini wontons) , but also a surprisingly premium version of seafood and other proteins that you can add. This was the star of the meal for me, and I took full advantage. Noodles included ramen, udon, egg noodle. Two types of pickled vegetables were given, including a decent napa kimchi which could be used to make a kimchi broth. I loved the selection of processed meats, including spam, beef ball, fish tofu ball, krab sticks, chikuwa, and kamaboku. They also had raw headless shrimp (small size), and baby octopus (I ate a lot of this), along with small shelled bay scallops and small clams. Note most of the proteins in the buffet line are presented semi-frozen, and meant to be cooked (if raw) or reheated (if cooked) a while. Service was definitely caring, but a bit hit or miss in terms of clearing plates and water refilling. Instead, the limited staff (understandable because of the holidays) focused on refilling meats quickly and keeping the buffet fully stocked and clean. They did a good job. Payment is accepted at the table and is through Clover. it's become common practice to charge a credit card fee, which is very easy to implement if using one of the all-in-one restaurant partners like Clover or Toast. In this case, it was 3% and this fee was clearly stated, so wasn't a surprise. Complementary soft serve ice cream seems to be the common dessert for hot pot places, and Shaburina was no exception, with it being given as you leave the restaurant. It is served in a small Dixie cup size container, with a small spoon. This small amount actually went a long way, the vanilla flavored ice cream being very rich, thick, and creamy. It was very delicious (as good as soft serve as you can get), and a great way to end the meal as we headed out into the cold, damp, and dreary Seattle overcast skies. read more
