Solid with everything well cooked. The Tea Smoked Duck was tasty, different and delicious. The white fish was good. Both garlic vegetables were flavorful.

Come here for everything Szechuan. Frying Fish is one of the best restaurants I've eaten at lately! My sister and I ordered the Feiteng House Special Beef hotpot as well as their pea shoots for a meal around $70 total. 5/5 -- nothing could've been improved. The feiteng house special has a very spicy kick, but it's manageable with some rice. The pea shoots were perfectly crunchy, filling, and have a strong garlic sauce. We had so much food that we took half of everything to go! It was so good I went back home 30 minutes later and already wanted to eat it again. :) If you can handle (extreme) spice, I would highly recommend you order authentic Szechuan spicy food-- please don't come for the Kung Pao chicken or broccoli beef... On top of the great food, service was super friendly and fast. They made a couple of mistakes on our order but it was mostly the language barrier and nothing that they didn't fix right away.

Only 16ppm /600ppm water is very clean and good tasting here!

Pretty run of the mill Chinese joint though seems a bit more authentic than most. The seating is arranged primarily for groups of people, as there are large tables, then rectangle tables for 6, strangely, but I can tell they are just working with what space they have. I ordered the Kung pao chicken, no nuts, add bell peppers. It was pretty good, though a few pieces of chicken were just gristle or fat chunks. The pork gyoza was pretty good. They were busy so no critique on serving speed, and they all seemed quite polite. Food came out pretty quick. I might come try it again if I'm in the area. Oh yeah I tested the water here with a water tester, it was an amazingly low number! The lowest I've seen yet! (16/600, very good water!) I'm only rating 3 because I wasn't exactly impressed but there wasn't really any issues either, other than the awkward seating arrangement for single diners.

Frying Fish is so good, it lives up to the hype of being one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area. As soon as you walk in, you can see all the awards and mentions that it has won. My group was seated within 10-15 minutes on a Saturday night, and our waitress even accomodated our request to be moved a table over. - Sichuan Hometown Tofu: 5/5, so good and flavorful. I loved the texture of the tofu. - Fish Fillets in Spicy Gravy Sauce: 5/5, this was the best! They don't skimp on the fish. It's a bit spicy though so beware. - Eggplant w Hot Garlic Sauce: 3/5, this was alright. I think it was a bit bland in comparison to the other items we got. The portions are great for the price you pay. We got these three dishes for 4 people and it was perfect. I definitely recommend coming!

Frying Fish is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in the area. My go to spot for authentic Szechuan style Chinese food in Bellevue. Been going here for years and love taking new people to try it. I moved to California years ago, but every time I come back to visit we drive straight here to enjoy some good eats. I always make sure to eat here at least twice before going back home. All the food Ive ordered from here has been amazing. The main attraction for me though is the Wok-fried Live Crab, which I get Salt & Pepper style. As you walk in, you can see the live crabs in a tank by the entrance. They are sold by the pound at market price and its worth every penny. The other two dishes I always get are the Chopped Pepper Hot Fish and the Fried Rice. Never disappointed by those. The servers here are also on the friendlier side for an Asian restaurant. They show some attentiveness and give good recommendations. Since Ive been coming here for years, they always recognize me when I come back. It makes this spot feel extra welcoming.

The food is great. It comes out fast, hot, and spicy. You can adjust the spice level to your preference. We have been coming here for over 8 years as a family. We will continue to come here in the future.

Pork with Dry Bean Curd and Cumin Lamb
    Kimmy L.

My family and I came here for dinner over the weekend. This was my first time eating at Frying Fish, but my family had been here a couple times before. We came at around 6pm. Even though they were quite crowded, we were immediately seated. We ordered the CUMIN LAMB, the TEA SMOKED DUCK, the DAN DAN NOODLES WITH SPICY SESAME SAUCE, the DRY COOKED STRING BEANS, and the PORK WITH DRIED BEAN CURD. The CUMIN LAMB was our least favorite of the dishes and was extremely over-salted to the point where it was basically inedible. I've never seen my dad send food back to the kitchen, but he politely asked and the waitress brought out a new dish that was much more evenly seasoned. The flavors were good with just a hint of mouth-numbing sichuan pepper. However, the texture of the lamb was mushy, possibly from over-marination in baking soda. The TEA SMOKED DUCK and the DRY COOKED STRING BEANS were my family's favorite dishes. The tea smoked duck was super meaty and well-smoked (reminded me of a turkey leg at the fair). It was a little on the salty side for me, but my family didn't seem bothered by it (and definitely a lot less salty than the cumin lamb). The dry cooked string beans were fresh and sweet and had great garlic taste to it. The DAN DAN NOODLES WITH SPICY SESAME SAUCE was my favorite dish of the night. Make sure to stir it so that all of the noodles are well coated in the brown beans sauce. The sauce had lots of umami flavor and had chopped up pieces of mushroom, tofu, and pork. Lastly, the PORK WITH DRIED BEAN CURD was alright. Personally, I thought it was a little bland and oily for my taste, but I'm not a huge fan of this dish in general. The rest of my family thought it was alright. You definitely need rice at this place, and so we ordered three bowls of PURPLE RICE. I believe the rice is purple because of red beans, but not 100% sure. Regardless, the rice was cooked perfectly and was nice and sticky. Service was absolutely fantastic - no shortage of help here! Our waitress came over to check on us multiple times and refilled our water and tea without us even having to ask. She also took away empty plates and pushed food together on the plate to make it easier to grab. The interior is clean and modern. Atmosphere is casual. Overall: 2.75/5 for food, 5/5 for service, 3/5 for atmosphere

Pickled Vegetable Swai Fillets, $33.95 - 4 Stars

Frying Fish in Bellevue is an approachable Sichuan restaurant in a strip mall with plenty of parking. Inside, you'll find a roomy restaurant that is often filled with diner of Chinese descent with plenty of other ethnicities, too. The staff speaks English and Chinese. The service level is a bit closer to the abrupt "Chinese" service, but I don't care about that. As long as the food is good, I'm happy. The interior and décor are nicely appointed, not gaudy and certainly not utilitarian. The Food: Pickled Vegetable Swai Fillets, $33.95 - 4 Stars This is a giant soup bowl that feels a family of several. This version is a touch of sour, a touch of spicy, not too oily, and incredibly flavorful. Yum! There are more spicy versions, but I don't like the oil. One of these, I hope to find a version that is not swai or tilapia; both are not-so-healthy fish. The search continues. Cumin Lamb, $17.95 - 4 Stars Other than a flame symbol on the menu, there is no description to tell the diner this is ma-la spicy. Luckily, it is sufficiently mild for my hubby. The flavor is quite good, even if the cumin is mixed with ma-la spicy peppercorns. Tea Smoked Duck (Bone In), $18.95 - 4.5 Stars This dish is my favorite. The smokiness smells amazing. I can easily eat only this dish at this restaurant. Pea Vine with Garlic, $18.95 - 3 Stars As though my mom still talks inside my head, I ordered veggies even though $19 for a plate of veggies that I can buy for $6 really does seem like a rip-off. The taste is basic and met expectations. Side note: White rice is $2 - very reasonable

    Love crab
    Cal C.

My go to place to get love crabs. Also not to be missed is the hot chopped fish. Honestly everything they have here is great but be realistic. As the restaurant name explicitly says lots of their dishes are fried. Don't look for healthy non fried options that taste good. The service is also great and there are ample parking spaces. The hot pepper chicken is okay as they tend to have too much batter or coating with less meat. Little garden has a better version. Anyways do try live crabs. They will fry them with hot chilly peppers and truly awesome. Don't forget to order the special dessert. Don't burn yourself.

    House special Beef

Amazing food and great service. Never get disappointed. The frying fish is kind of spicy and it goes well with the rice. New dish "pepper fish" got pretty unique taste it worth a try.

    Sichuan Mala Chicken

With many interesting sounding Szechuan restaurants in the area that looked interesting to try, Frying Fish was definitely one of them on the list! We went on a Friday around 5:45pm and were seated promptly. The parking situation is easy as there is a big general use parking lot right next to the location. The restaurant gets quite busy around rush hour, but service is fast and you'll likely get a seat very soon. We ordered through a physical menu and waiter, which is different than most restaurants nowadays (most szechuan places that I've visited have been through QR code). We received our food quickly - about ~10ish minutes after ordering. We got a good variety of dishes, which I'll review down below: Sichuan Mala Chicken ($14): Chicken pieces were nice and crispy, and the spices and seasonings permeated the chicken pieces nicely. There is a decent amount of chicken scattered throughout the dish, and pieces themselves were a good dish (slightly smaller than your average chicken nugget). Scallion Pancake ($8): The scallion pancake was a bit underwhelming, I would say skip ordering this item if you visit. Though the pancake was light and crispy Fish and Vegetable in White Sauce ($17): A delicious dish! We wanted to order something a bit lighter since everything else was spicy and heavy. The fish chunks were large and extremely tender - you'll have to be a bit careful when trying to pick them up with your chopsticks! The vegetables were light - there was assortment of wood ear, snap peas, carrots, small mushroom chunks, and mountain yam. The sauce is thick and covers all components well, and had good fragrance of ginger and garlic. Homestyle Tofu ($14): If you are looking to order something from Frying Fish, I would recommend this one! This is a very solid homestyle tofu - the outside had a subtle crisp, and the inside was silky and extremely tender. The sauce is really close to your typical Szechuan Yuxiang sauce - a bit of spice with a subtle hint of sweetness and garlic. Beef Dry Pot ($22): A fragrant dish, and the beef slices were really tender! This was the spiciest of the dishes that we ordered, and had strong and good flavor. There is a good mix of cauliflower, lotus root, and various other vegetables. For everything that you see here, we spent about $26 each for 4 people. Which is a decent amount of food given the price - though if you are feeling really hungry, I would likely recommend ordering one more dish if you are ordering around the same quantity as we did. I would say Frying Fish is definitely a solid Szechuan restaurant, and would like to revisit in the future to try more of the dishes that they have to offer!

While they offer physical menus, they also have QR codes at each table for simple ordering online. We are accustomed to spots including rice with entrees so having to order it separately for an extra $2 per bowl feels bad. Items are large, so tailored for family style. Stir Fried Green Bean - as a green beans fanatic, my partner was a huge fan of the ones here. She liked these over our usual Canto spot which says a lot. The green beans themselves were fresh and cooked perfectly but the sauce was more flavorful than most. Very savory and lightly salty, not really spicy. Sweet and Sour Chicken - missing the onions and pineapple but a very sizable portion of large, tasty battered chicken paired with juicy and crunchy bell peppers. Definitely pair with some rice, there's a lot of sauce and a simple carb helps with balance. Shredded Pork with Sweet Bean Sauce - I was attracted by the steamed buns (gua bao), but the pork was tasty. A bit fatty and drenched in a savory, umami bean sauce, a simple carb like rice will help soak up sauce and balance flavors. There aren't enough buns for the meat, but they are a simple carb that balance out the meat and honestly, a refreshing change in flavor and texture.

Huge servings of shrimp and it was cooked without soy sauce being added so you could add it to taste. The sweet-and-sour pork was a generous portion, and I had a side of rice with it. The "Spicy Beef Trio" includes beef tripe, beef tongue, and beef aorta--by the way, the "aorta" here isn't the throat, but the aortic blood vessel of the cow. The flavor doesn't have the traditional Sichuan aroma, and since the three main ingredients are all foods with dense fiber, they don't easily absorb the seasoning. Clay Pot Tofu: This dish features salted egg yolk flavor, though the taste isn't too strong. I'd suggest steaming the egg yolks beforehand--reheating each ingredient can double its aroma. Signature Fried Rice: Packed with ingredients, with distinct grains. It's a fairly decent dish. As the foremost of the Eight Great Culinary Traditions of China, Sichuan cuisine originated because China's vast territory made it difficult to preserve many spices and ingredients. The use of heavy oil, heavy salt, and bold flavors was actually a way to mask certain imperfections to some extent. The cuisine is characterized by its numbing, spicy, and bold flavors. The sensation of spiciness doesn't travel through the same pathways as other tastes--it's actually a form of pain, which is why younger people tend to enjoy it.

From the moment you walk in, the cultural atmosphere stands out--many of the patrons are Asian, and on my visit, a few were even dressed in traditional garments, which added a vibrant, lived-in feel to the space. It's the kind of detail you can't manufacture, and it speaks volumes about the restaurant's credibility within the community. The interior itself is fairly average--nothing particularly modern or upscale--but it doesn't detract from the experience. If anything, it keeps the focus where it belongs: on the food. Service was a bit of a mixed bag. There were only two servers handling the floor, and they were clearly stretched thin. Ordering is done digitally, which helps streamline things, but you can still feel the strain during peak times. That said, the food started arriving quickly--our tofu noodle dish came out almost immediately, while the beef dish lagged behind a bit. Presentation leans traditional in a charming way. The plates and chopsticks have that classic, no-frills aesthetic that complements the overall vibe of the restaurant. Now, let's talk about the food. First, a word of caution: spice levels here are no joke. If you're sensitive to heat, you'll want to dial it down. But if you can handle it, the flavors are absolutely worth it--rich, bold, and deeply satisfying. The tofu was exceptionally soft, almost silky, and clearly freshly prepared. The noodles matched that texture perfectly--tender, well-cooked, and comforting. Pricing is another strong point. It's not really so hot as it is numbing. Your lips tingle. Most people who didn't grow up with this aren't big fans. Their 水煮肉 or 水煮鱼 comes pretty close though. Leftovers with either of those and leftover rice plus whatever make the very best 烩饭, huifan! Just boil it. We arrived there early and there were just a few other customers eating. And they left soon after. So it was just us and a steady stream of delivery drivers coming in to pick up food to go. I would consider ordering on line like that but this food doesn't hold up well over the distance to our home. Although the interior had been remodeled since our last visit, the decor is fairly stark. Combine that with the location in a strip mall on the corner of Jackson and 12th, which has seen better days, ambience isn't a real draw. However if what you want is a very good meal at reasonable prices then you should go to the Sichuanese Cuisine restaurant in Seattle. (I prefer it to the one in Bellevue.) Too bad you probably won't get to meet 陈大姐。Now that we know the food is still great, we will return.

This was a good order sojourn experience might be better. Ordered pa cake, dumplings, and walnut…read moreshrimp. First they are fast and the walnet shrimp was devoured it was so good. They prices are priced well. Remember everything is al a cart, you pay extra for rice. That's fine. The pancake was inedible it had no flavor and was very (very) dry. The dumplings needed soy which I didnt get (bad on me) and the dipping sauce all heat no chili flavor. I have had better frozen dumplings which made me sad. Will try one of the other amazing Chinese places in downtown Seattle.
