A classic, old school Thai restaurant in Capitol Hill. On the front, it boasts $20 lunch specials and 20% off for happy hour from 4:30pm-6pm. First impression of these prices are, they are higher than the typical Thai restaurant, so I have to assess it in the lens of that, not a typical fast casual restaurant. The good thing though is that if you have InKind credits, Resy credits, Doordash credits etc, this place takes them all, so if you are finding yourself in a position where you must use the credits somewhere, this is a fairly convenient candidate. We got the curry trio with roti, roasted duck curry, swimming rama with pork, and pineapple fried rice with beef, all 2/5 spicy which is fairly mild-medium for my taste buds. We also got some cocktails like the Bass'd and My Thai, the former which is Thai tea with Hennessy and the latter is a mai tai variant. The curry trio with roti is good, though the curry is a little watery. They give a really good amount of curry that we ended up just sipping it like soup later on. The roasted duck curry is really good, a bit on the pricier side but it had a duck leg and a few chunks of duck meat, so you are getting some value (rice is not included, add $3). The swimming rama is good - peanut and garlic dominate the flavors, and the pork is tender and the spinach is decent. The pineapple fried rice with beef is decent - I wished it was a bit more elaborate in presentation like having a half pineapple (that is what I typically envision for this dish), but it is still delicious. There is generous amounts of beef, pineapple, sausage, etc with not much rice, so I prefer that for the value. The cocktails are good and decently strong. $15 is okayish, but the 20% off during happy hour pushes the needle to order a drink alongside the food. The cocktails are fairly basic and easy to make, but we still ordered them for the full experience. Service is good as the food was ready in a timely manner and they had water refills. It took them a little bit of time to get the check, but otherwise it was a fairly efficient experience. read more

I ordered the lunch special, which offers a variety of choices for a drink, appetizer, and entrée. I went with Thai iced tea, fried tofu, and Mama's curry with tofu. The Thai iced tea was decent--on the sweeter side and served in a small (about 8 oz) glass. Nothing particularly memorable, but not bad either. The fried tofu came with peanut sauce, which was the highlight of the dish. The sauce was flavorful and well-balanced, though the tofu itself was just average. The curry included plenty of broccoli, along with tofu, red peppers, and a modest amount of cashews. It was good, but didn't quite stand out. The rice served alongside it was also solid but unremarkable. Portion-wise, the $20 lunch special felt fair and satisfying. I visited around 2 PM, and there was only one person working the counter and also as a server for the entire restaurant.. As a result, the service was quite slow. That said, the staff member was friendly, welcoming, and maintained a positive attitude throughout. The interior is cozy, with soft lighting and some tasteful ethnic décor that adds to the ambiance. Overall, the experience was okay--pleasant enough, but not something I'd go out of my way to revisit. read more

Is it far off to say that I'm in love?! This Thai restaurant is an absolute hit. They have a 20$ lunch special that includes a drink, an appetizer, and an entree. I ordered Thai tea, Crab Rangoon, and Kang Kiew. The Kang Kiew is a yellow curry, with a spice level of 1-5. I highly recommend getting a 4 or 5. I ordered takeout as I was craving Thai and wanted to try something different, the interior was decorated in a fun vibe. I ordered the garlic chicken and the pad khee mao with beef. The service was friendly and the garlic chicken was good with just the right amount of breading.The beef was a little tough and there was a $4 up charge for beef. This is my go-to Thai spot in Cap Hill! I've been coming here for years now and always satisfied with the food here. Their Crab fried rice is a highlight for me! This time around, we came in for a weekday dinner and found a spot easily. Our server was really helpful with curry and noodle recommendations, since we were feeling a little indecisive. This was the first place I had Thai food over 25 years ago. A friend and I were going to go to Taku but he forgot his ID. So when I saw this place was still open I suggested it. I used to work on the hill and this was a regular of the gang I worked with my go to was their phad see ew. On this visit I decided to try their COCONUT CHICKEN it was listed as one of the specialties. I had grabbed an ice cream before cause I had time to waste before meeting my friend so I knew I wouldn't eat my entire meal and wanted something I knew would reheat well. Also my friend got the crab fried rice so I wanted to get something comparable in price. Food was still delicious and comforting. Service was friendly and food came out quickly. It was nice to see this family owned restaurant was still around. The Seahawk game was on this Thursday and it obvious the owners were fans in their jerseys and the game on in the bar. I got the Larb, with ground chicken. Usually going to Thai restaurants I opt for the ever faithful pad Thai or pad see ew, but I recognized the name larb so I tried it and it was delicious. It had a very nice refreshing, citrusy, and tangy tamarind taste. If I could drink the vinaigrette it was served in I would. I got a level 3 spice, which I didn't think was too spicy, but my friend got the fish curry and he was sweating heavily, so maybe ask about how intense the spice is if you're not someone who manages it well. I think my only complaint with the dish was the plating. The plate was maybe a little too small for the serving size, or it could be in a mess and I don't have decent eating habits. It was also served with an almost half wedge of cabbage. I believe this was meant to be be peeled leaf by leaf, but the cabbage size was a little awkward and didn't work that well as a serving vessel. I haven't stopped in to Ayutthaya since I lived on Capitol Hill (back when mankind feared for dinosaur attacks) but we were in Seattle for the garden show so we decided to head up the Hill to try it. Ayutthaya is celebrating 30 years in business and it surprised me that this would mean that when I used to lunch here it was relatively new. We ordered the three curries with roti to start and had an order of the crab fried rice, Ayutthaya noodles with squid, and a pad Thai with prawns. The review might be colored by the fact that we were starving by the time we walked up. The Ayutthaya noodles are still as flavorful as I remembered. The squid was a nice accompaniment to the wide noodles. The pad Thai was saucy than I recalled but tasted good. The crab fried rice, which I don't think I had back when we dodged dinosaurs, was very good. The only nitpick would be that you crunched into the occasional shell fragment - but at least you know it's real crab that way! It's a venerable Thai place on Cap Hill and still worth visiting if you're in the mood for Thai. read more

I've given them a few chances and I think the food is really lacking. I ordered the Phad Thai, the noodles were all wrapped up inside of eggs like an omelette. It was literally an omelette with noodles inside. Really weird. I've also tried the Pad Se Ew which was very dry, there was very little sauce, vegetables were hard and undercooked, and the noodles were stuck together? It's a shame because it's in a great location! I will say, however, their crab Rangoons are to die for and the Tom Kha is not bad.
