I started with the crab rangoon, and it was a great appetizer. It had the perfect crunch on the outside, was creamy on the inside, and came with a delicious sweet and sour dipping sauce. For our entrées, we ordered the pad see ew and the pork belly with green beans. Both dishes were packed with flavor. The pad see ew had thick, chewy noodles with a great balance of vegetables and meat, making it both filling and satisfying. The standout, though, was the pork belly with green beans. Solid late night dinner option! We loved the vibe here. The restaurant was dim, lively, sophisticated, and had a romantic atmosphere. When entering they had a live keyboardist and singer playing Valerie which I was a fan of. We stopped in at 10pm on a week night and were sat right away and service was prompt and friendly. We chose fried calamari for an appetizer which was super delicious. My boyfriend thought the sauce that came with the calamari was too spicy for his liking but for me it was super sweet and paired perfectly with the calamari. We enjoyed the appetizer thoroughly and I would say it was my favorite part of the meal. My man ordered his favorite Thai dish Panang chicken Curry spice level 1. He said his meal was delicious but big portion so we both took to go our leftovers. I tried the curry and it was super tasty. I ordered my go to prawns Pad Thai and chose spice level 3. Mid-week bites means no crowds. We were visiting UW and met up with friends at Fern Thai. None of us have been here before so we relied on Yelp to guide us. We entered into what I felt was a really dark restaurant. Not from a decor standpoint but just dark and dimly lit. It was really hard to read the menu. Thankfully it's a pretty traditional Thai restaurant so ordering basic pad Thai was the order of the night. This was probably the fanciest pad Thai I've had. Presentation was great. Food is amazing, the service was impeccable, and the ambiance was a vibe. I had one of the chef's special (sliced NY Strip with crispy garlic fried rice). I also added a side of the Chinese broccoli. The steak was cooked to perfection and the race was super flavorful. I usually add soy sauce to my fried rice and there was no need! I also like the fact that the fried was wasn't overly oily. They played some really nice R&B music which completes the vibe This is a full table service restaurant and they were accommodating and the food came out quickly. Alright on to the food! Moo Deng Tom Yum (4/5) I love that the tom yum soup here is not strongly sour or tangy. The soup flavor really hit the spot and tastes delicious and comforting. The ingredients tastes fresh and the portion size is generous. What I didn't like was the pieces of lemongrass and basil stems all over the soup. I had to pull a lot of pieces out of my mouth every few times I chew and that got annoying real fast. Duck curry (3/5) I was really excited from all the raving reviews for this dish. The curry itself is very delicious but the duck was a big disappointment to me. Most of the pieces aren't soft or plump as I expected but rather a semi crispy semi tough texture to it with a strong burnt after taste. It's almost like I got the burnt sides of a duck that was put too long in the oven and I'm eating those scraps. Overall, highly recommend if you're in the Cap Hill area. Food was great, service was good. There are tables for groups or tables for two. The vibes are intimate for the most part. Going here for dinner with a plus one is more favorable than party larger than 6, but they can accommodate slightly from what I saw. Make sure to plan ahead to find parking because it's very limited nearby or you'll walk a few blocks and be wary of your surroundings. On to the food, We stuck to some basic dishes. We ordered the Pad See Ewe with Beef, Crispy Garlic Chicken, Som Tum Thai, and the Thai Iced Coffee. Pad see ewe was exactly as you would expect it. It didn't lack flavor or spice at level 2 spice, definitely worth getting if you like that dish from other Thai places. Crispy Garlic Chicken was much better than expected. It wasn't super breaded like a lot of other places tend to do, this one was actually chicken in there. It was delicious and 1000% would order this one again, don't forget to place an order of rice to pair with it. The Som Tom Thai, aka, papaya salad was flavorful and not super overpowered with fish sauce. Ordered for pick up a few nights ago, as we just moved a friend to Seattle and wanted to continue unpacking while checking out some local restaurants. Initially I tried ordering through their website but kept getting an error, so I just called and was able to get an order in quick. I got the tom yum with chicken and was overall pleased. It is spiced well and definitely packed with vegetables too. Others in my group tried the wonton soup which they said was good, the mini wings which were crispy and came with a Thai chili dipping sauce, and the garlic crispy chicken was the overall favorite. You'll have to order a side of jasmine rice ($3) and the entree does not automatically come with it. I saw their spice level is from No spicy to 5, but being this is the first time we've tried them we decided to be on the safe side and try everything we got as a spice level 1 or 2. Solid spot for Thai food! Fern Thai is tucked away on a relatively quiet street in Cap Hill. We came here on a Sunday evening and got seated immediately. We ordered a tofu pad see ew and duck curry. Both came in big portions. The tofu pad see ew was good but a little too sweet for my liking. There could have been a little more tofu as well. The duck curry was delicious. The duck meat was tender and there was a good amount of curry to go with the rice. Overall, Fern Thai is great and is a slightly cheaper alternative to other Thai restaurants in Cap Hill (i.e. Sugar Hill, Bai Tong). This was such a yummy and fantastic experience! We came with a reservation and got seated immediately. The inside is very well decorated with dim lighting and plenty of seating. We started with the neau dad dew which was dried pork, kind of like jerky. It was nicely seasoned and not too tough. The chicken was juicy, curry was so flavorful, and the roti reminded me of a Taiwanese scallion pancake.
