Sign that greets you after you get off the elevator

Since I don't go to bars normally, I'm trying not to factor in the taste of my drink in my rating as much as the atmosphere and environment, but either way, my overall experience was kind of meh. Yes, the rooftop views are nice, and so is the lounging area, but that seems to be the main pros of this rooftop bar. We had planned to go on a really cold and chilly night, so we brought extra jackets, which ended up becoming superfluous. In fact, I'd even argue that if you could park in the same building as this bar, you wouldn't even need a jacket at all! The Nest is located on the rooftop of the Thompson Seattle, by Hyatt on the corner of Stewart and 1st. Unless you're willing to go up a dozen flights of stairs, you'll want to take an elevator to the R level. When you enter, you're asked to show your ID to the hostess in front before they can let you in. My group wasn't planning to get any eats since we had some appetizers a couple hours earlier and were planning to get a proper dinner afterwards. I almost thought I'd just swing by without ordering anything, but when I saw their menu had three non-alcoholic drinks, I figured I'd give one a try. The first one, Perch & Percolate, appeared to be caffeinated, however, as the description contained the word "coffee". However, the second and third ones didn't. The second one was Golden Chirp, and that was ordered by a groupmate. That enabled me to decide on the third one: Citrus Soar, which appeared to be pretty no-frills compared to the Golden Chirp, though I found it funny they omitted the letter 'e' in "grapefruit", perhaps a sign of carelessness? It took a couple of minutes for the bartender to make my drink once I told him what I wanted. He barely showed any facial expression during my brief interaction with him, so I question how much he actually wanted to be working that evening even though I didn't really question his ability to mix drinks. He handed me my drink before taking my card to process my payment, but didn't actually tell me how much the total cost was; the menu did indicate $14 for the drink, but I had to wait until he handed me two copies of my receipt. I couldn't tell which was the customer copy and which was the merchant copy, but he said it didn't really matter. Unfortunately, I noticed that he placed my receipts on a wet surface, which caused them to get wet. Kind of a yuck right there! Also, the receipts, unfortunately, were not itemized, so it's impossible to tell what exactly I spent the money on. The Citrus Soar didn't taste too bad overall, but didn't leave much of an impression, which wasn't surprising considering how relatively simple the concoction's ingredients list was in comparison to the other ones, especially of the alcoholic variety. The price is pretty steep at $14; just know that you're paying more for the views, which may not be as good as Kerry Park, but still quite nice nonetheless. You can even see the Pike Place Market from there! After a long and hard day of work, it's nice to chill by one of their two fire pits and enjoy the views of Downtown Seattle with some drinks in hand. And maybe some eats too as they did serve some food that sounded delicious upon first glance of the menu. The rooftop has an outdoor dining tent that you can sit inside in case it gets too cold outside. However, it was pretty toasty inside during our visit. I had brought a sweater and a jacket thinking I'd be freezing there, but I placed both articles of clothing on a chair while I was enjoying my drink inside that tent. Also, the restrooms were situated before the entrance, so when I went to use the restroom, I was almost afraid I'd get carded again to return to my group. Clearly not the best setup here. Overall, it was an okay experience. I wouldn't be opposed to coming back, but I'm almost certainly going to choose the Golden Chirp on a return visit if by night, or the Perch & Percolate if by day.

One of the best roof top bar in the city. I stayed at this hotel thompson for 4 days and everynight/ evening i went there for my drinks and for bar bites. Eevryday Lisa served me and she is amazing, sweetheart and the best. Tried pretty much all the cocktails in their menu and all of them were served in a proper glass with chilled temperature. Best chedder popcorn they have and pizza. Beautiful view from inside and outside also serves and has an arrangement of mid group for private events.

Came here to try catch the sunset but it ended being a cloudy day. Got the Pink Pony Club which has Ketel One Vodka, Strawberry Liqueur, Vanilla, Grapefruit, Lemon. And came with two sour patch kids skewered on top. I sort of understand the concept of the sour patch kids on top but I also don't. I think adding a slice of lime, orange, or any fruit would be more aesthetic and delicious. I enjoyed the citrusy notes of the cocktail but felt that the drink could've benefited by having some ice to keep it cool and refreshing - on theme with the refreshing-ness that the grapefruit and lemon brings. It was $20 but an automatic service charge of 20% is added no matter the size of your party. Going on a Sunday around 6:30pm, the server walked past our table multiple times before getting to us or even addressing us that they will be there in a second. Overall, drinks are pricey and you're paying for the premium of having a view of the Puget Sound.

I brought some out of town friend here near the end of the summer for happy hour! The three of us arrived shortly after opening at 4pm, and were able to find outdoor rooftop seating. The staff were very friendly, even giving us a free drink that was accidentally made! While the atmosphere could very easily be for an upscale date night, my friends and I casually played some cards on the roof with out cocktails and felt very comfortable. This is a must-go location for a view of the water!

Located in a hotel and a quick walk from Pike Place Market is the Nest with a beautiful ocean view of Seattle. They have heaters for outside and it's just a great vibe to take in the beautiful sights and have drinks.

Rooftop bar near Pike's Place with nice views of Elliott Bay. It's walk in only unless you went to pay a non refundable $50 to reserve the VIP couch area. We were led up quickly by the hostess downstairs at the Thompson Hotel. It's open seating so we found a table easily. The gloomy weather and drizzle probably helped and explained why it was not crowded. We tried to open the umbrella at the table as it was raining lightly and also obstructing the view but they quickly came over to us to keep it closed due to wind, which there wasn't much of, and told us that the umbrellas are for shade not rain protection. Very odd for Seattle where there's more rain than sun! Drinks were good, although expensive. I had the pink pony which comes with a sour patch kid garnish for some whimsy. Didn't see nor was offered a food menu, so can only wish to drinks. Staff was friendly. Nice spot for a drink and view but was honestly underwhelmed by the decor and the umbrella incident was really odd.

    Tuna Sandwich & Old Fashioned

A local recommended The Nest for the view -- which truly is beautiful -- and the bartender was genuinely kind and helpful. But everything else missed the mark. For a place that looks upscale, it's odd that there's only one bartender and you have to order everything at the bar. The menu is extremely limited, and while there are a few cozy seats, there aren't many, and they were already taken, leaving mostly uncomfortable stool seating. I ordered the tuna sandwich, which was plain and forgettable, and later became extremely sick with clear food poisoning from that meal. That alone makes me question the kitchen's safety. This is the reason for a one-star review. The view is great, but the overall experience -- from the setup to the food to getting sick -- means I won't be returning.

Great food! This was a cool place and I did have a great burger and drink. They served a large group with no problems.9

We went to the Nest for pre-dinner drinks. The service was great; our waitress was friendly. The view from the terrace is wonderful as you can see the entire bay. However, drinks are about $20USD and non-hotel guests must pay $50USD to make a reservation and sit on the patio. Essentially, we paid about $160USD for four drinks. From a price standpoint, I don't think it is worth having cocktails here; value for money isn't there. Not sure if I would recommend the Nest, as there are other places in Seattle with a nice view and more reasonable pricing.

Came here to celebrate my birthday a few months back. It was my third time visiting since I love the rooftop bar scene in Seattle. It's pretty easy to get into, just have to walk through, you'll have to walk through the Thompson Hotel lobby to get to the elevator that takes you up. From my experiences here so far, if you're looking to get seated you'll have to grab one of the staff's attention. The most recent visit we were sat right by the railing where we could get great views of the waterfront and the beautiful Elliott Bay. I highly recommend you come a little before sunset so you can get a good seat with great views especially once the sun settles down and you experience the Puget Sound glowing as you sip on your tasty cocktails. Would not recommend coming late when it's dark, you can't see anything at all - I would recommend other rooftop bars when it's dark so that you could at least see part of the skyline. Drinks have always been good when I came, everyone I've taken likes the Pineapple Smash. I'll have to keep track of the ones I've ordered, but I've enjoyed each one. Would come back again during the warmer season.

    Melissa K.

Great views and delicious drinks! I loved the pineapple smash. Unfortunately seating is super limited which is a shame. We showed up without a reservation and were able to hang out on the rooftop, but it was really crowded. I'd come again but will definitely make a reservation in advance!

Not too bad of a place, but the bartending staff is not very friendly, and the music is also too loud.

    Melissa V.

Located on a rooftop, indoor seating was reserved and outside seating was first come first serve. View was great for a "rooftop" view. We ordered drinks- old fashion and cosmopolitan. We didn't order food, and we ordered our drinks at the bar, so we didn't have "service" from a server.

They only open reservations six days in advance, and this place fills up faster than brunch spots when the sun comes out in Seattle. Totally worth the planning. The experience starts downstairs at Tavern Law restaurant, where you let the host know you're headed to Needle and Thread. From there, you're directed to a mysterious locked door next to a telephone. Yes, an actual phone. Pick it up, give your reservation name once someone answers, and bam! You're buzzed upstairs like you've just passed a very classy secret test. Once inside, you're greeted and escorted to your seat, and the magic really begins. There's no drink menu because why limit creativity? Instead, the staff plays cocktail therapist, asking about your favorite spirits, flavors, and moods. Based on your answers, they craft a completely custom drink tailored to your palate. Every cocktail we tried was spot-on. Balanced, intentional, and clearly made by people who treat mixology like an art form rather than a guessing game. Bonus points: You can request the coaster they took your order on, which lists the ingredients so you can attempt to recreate it at home (results may vary depending on your confidence and liquor cabinet.) Not to be overshadowed by the drinks, the Sockeye Salmon Crostini was a fantastic fresh, flavorful appetizer and the perfect companion to a night of bespoke cocktails. Unlike other speakeasies that feel truly hidden, you actually just walk into Tavern Law, check in with the hostess, and let them know you have a reservation. They then guide you to a telephone where you repeat your reservation name before being let upstairs. It's a fun concept, but not especially secretive, and they're pretty strict about not letting you up early unless it's very empty. Once seated, we actually waited almost 20 minutes before being served with no acknowledgement. We ended up having to flag down the manager just to bring attention to our table, which was disappointing given the experience they're aiming for. The waitress asks a series of questions about your preferences--likes, dislikes, and flavor inspirations--so the bartenders can create custom cocktails for you. If you're knowledgeable about alcohol, this is probably a dream. If you're not (like me), it can feel a little intimidating, but our waitress was patient and did her best to guide us through it. The drinks themselves were excellent. Even the shots were customized, which was a nice touch. The vibe upstairs is chill and relatively quiet, making it a great place to relax and talk. Food is the same menu as downstairs at Tavern Law, so nothing new there. The only downside--and unfortunately a noticeable one--was an interaction with the female bartender (not our waitress). Based on the questions we were asked, my friend gave a mix of savory and sweet preferences, since we were told these were just inspirations. However, the female bartender came over sounding visibly annoyed and said, "So do you want savory or sweet? You're giving contradicting answers." The tone felt unnecessarily rude, especially since we were just following the process as it was explained to us. Overall, the drinks were great and the concept is unique, but between the delayed service and that negative interaction, it definitely put a damper on the experience.

I was so excited by the experience that I made a reservation to bring my partner there to end our anniversary night. I was expecting something more intimate and exclusive, especially since that was how it was presented during the Yelp event. When we arrived at the speakeasy at our reserved time, we were told it was not ready yet. We ended up waiting longer than expected, and when we finally received the text to come down, the door was already opening for a party that arrived after us. A big part of the Founders Club experience is the bookshelf entrance, and I had really hoped my partner could experience that excitement for the first time, but it ended up feeling a bit anticlimactic. Once inside, the space itself is nicely done and intimate, and the service was generally good. Prices are quite high for what we ordered, though they do provide complimentary fancy nuts, which was a nice touch. Overall, the vibes are good and I would like to return, but I hope the experience feels more curated and intentional for each party next time.
