The service was so and so, but it was the food that got me. Had to remind a few times for water. Tea cup was sticky. Quiet ambience. -Crab soup was good, it wasn't oily. -Honey walnut prawns was more visually appealing, greens and carrots on the side. -Chicken meat was tender but the skin was too dry. -Seafood veggie: Squid and veggies were soft enough. The tasty broccoli was infused with chicken stalk. -Tofu was I think fried on the outside and soft on the inside, actually fun to eat. -Sweet and sour pork okay, nothing really stood out for this one. -Peking duck- The buns were steamed too much, they were sticking to each other and didnt look neat after pulling them apart. -Mango jello- I could not tell if they used real mango. read more

I absolutely love the authenticity of this place. My family and I have been coming here for years and the food has always been very consistent. If you know Seattle pretty well, there is no place comparable to Mi La Cay in terms of yellow egg noodle soup. They are the original and most delicious noodle restaurant in the area. This is not a Japanese Ramen joint so don't compare them to the overpriced, salty, ramen establishments nearby. This style of noodle soup is far better! I always order the "Mi Kho Dac Biet" which is the dry noodles with a bowl of flavorful broth on the side. You can't go wrong with the tender slices of pork and crispy deep fried shrimp cake. In addition, my favorite drink there is the salty lemon prune soda. I love the sweet and salty combination with the refreshing taste of soda. To top it off I order to go, "Che Ba Mau" which is the 3 color bean dessert. If you click on the other "haters'" profiles, you will notice that they give negative feedback to 90% of the places they visit or eat at. I usually do not comment on other people's ratings but you have to question some people's motives and/or opinion based on their track record. With that being said, I highly recommend this place to everyone. I've met people from Switzerland who make a special trip to Mi La Cay every year before heading to Canada while dining here. I was craving pho and ordered something similar, a seafood noodle soup, for pickup through this app! Can't say what I got was exactly pho, but it was an interesting variation bursting with natural savory flavors. That's real food for you. Instead of a barrage of Thai basil, the soup came with super fresh, finely sliced chives and green onions, plus a yummy sambal-esque sauce and crispy jalapenos for spice. I've ordered takeaway pho at other places in Seattle before, and never has it been as hot, filling, and delicious as this random item I picked off the menu here. When I went to pick up, the hostess greeted me with pleasant smiles all around and a complimentary rambutan. This place was great. 10 years ago. My family & I would come here 1-2 times a month just to get the "mi bo satay" (spicy satay beef noodle) or the "mi vit tiem" (duck noodle soup). We stopped coming due to the service. Curious as to whether or not the food is still good, we stopped by for lunch last weekend. Unfortunately, this trip will probably be the last time we'll ever step foot into this establishment. The spicy satay beef noodle was mediocre at best. The sauce was lacking ...something. It's hard to explain, but it just didn't have the same depth as other places. The duck noodle soup? Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Understand that there are 2 types of duck noodle soup -- the one with "vit quay" (roasted duck) vs. the one with "vit tiem" (herb-y & earthy). The broth for each dish SHOULD BE completely different. And yet here ...they're the same? The broth came out yellowish clear...same color as chicken pho broth. What happened?! Where's my anise? My cloves? My five spice? The broth should be brown. Years ago, my aunty usually came here once a week, in fact she still knows the owner (a nice lady too). I ordered the Seafood Egg Noodles Soup...good stuff! Love the noodles! So soft and chewy. Lots of shrimp, fishballs...love love the broth! Portion wise, it's a very big bowl, so you have to be super hungry if you come in here. So I was in the neighborhood and had a craving for some noodle soup and it's been almost 5 year since I've been back to the place. Glad to report, nothing much as change. Not even the 80's decor. Service is prompt and food comes out really fast. There isn't much socializing with the waiter/waitress though. It's more of a fast food noodle restaurant. You're in, you're seated, given a menu, order and a few mins later, your food comes, you eat and off you go. That being said, the food is every bit as good now as I remembered it. The Roasted Peking Duck and the Fried Chicken Noodle soup is recommended. The Che Ba Mau (literal translation - 3 colored Dessert) is also worth trying. It's one of the best in town. Make sure you order this last because if you order it with your meal at the beginning, this is usually the first item that comes to you table. Which is not a bad thing but for those who want to have a "proper" meal (entree followed by dessert), order it after you've finished your noodle soup. Prices here are on par with other Pho Noodle Restaurants. $7 gets you a large bowl, $3.50 for the dessert. read more

I was pretty underwhelmed when my bowl came out. I ordered a mi vit quay (wonton noodles with BBQ duck). It was just a good handful of noodles that weren't very fresh. I could tell the noodles were sitting in a bowl for a while before the soup was poured in because the noodles were so hard and difficult to separate. They threw a few (very few) pieces of lettuce with green onions on top, and then the BBQ duck, and called it good. I wish there were some more fixings... Like at least some bean sprouts?? No, don't go here. Walked in and realized we weren't where we intended, but sat down and ordered anyways. I had the barbecue pork and fried chicken with rice, my friend had some chow foon. Shared a bowl of won ton soup. The chicken was bland and oily, the pork was dry and possibly the most flavorless piece of pork I've ever eaten. Neither were anything more than lukewarm. Sides were some dried out old steamed white rice that had to be at least a day old, with raw cucumber and tomato slices. I tried my friend's chow foon and it was barely edible - slimy and drenched in oily fat, like it had been fried in a pan used to fry meat several times before. Not in a good fat-drippings kind of way, but in a rank old grease kind of way. The won ton soup was the only thing that wasn't disgusting, but only by comparison - anywhere else and it would have been a major disappointment. With so many good Vietnamese restaurants in the city I can't imagine why this place is still open. My friend's take was that this was the worst food he'd eaten in as long as he could remember. read more

Oi this place is good. Their special noodle soup with the Chicken is great! Very clean tasting soup and delicious egg noodles. I haven't had the donuts in a looong time either, so it's a nice touch. My family has been eating here since I was 8 and I've always liked it here. I used to order like a normal bowl of soup but a couple years ago I would get dry noodles with the soup on the side. I prefer it that way because the lettuce doesn't get soggy in my bowl. Also if I order the special that comes with the fried shrimp, I don't like that getting soggy either. Their fried chicken (appetizer) isnt that great, they're a little dry. I just wish the place could be a little cleaner and/or more updated. Been here a few times during my lunch breaks. Very typical Vietnamese restaurant specializing in Chinese style noodle dishes. Don't expect your Pho or Bun Bo Hue here, nah...most of their dishes involve egg noodles. Think of your standard wonton yellow egg noodles but with thicker and crunchier consistency. I generally go with the fish ball/fish cake egg noodles or the fried chicken noodles. You can have the broth and noodles together or broth on the side. The broth is very mild and not overpowering at all. You can tell that lots of chicken carcasses is used as the main broth ingredient. I'm a big eater and their regular sized bowls are too small for my appetite so definitely go with large if you're a hearty eater like me. Service is generally pretty quick but once I had to wait 20 minutes before I received my order. I guess the waiter forgot to put in my order. Overall, if you need a quick soup fix while not craving for pho or wonton noodles then this is a good option. Amble parking is a plus too. read more

I love mi la cay!! I used to frequent this place a lot as a kid so it makes me happy knowing that they are still open in business till this day with the same familiar faces. They are well known for their egg noodles so I never stray away from ordering them. A favorite of mine would be the mi xa xiu kho which is the egg noodles dry style with bbq pork. To be honest their bbq pork isn't really your traditional bbq pork like char siu but rather roasted pork. Their noodles are always cooked perfectly and are always chewy in a good way and when you get it dry style it is lightly tossed in oyster sauce. The accompanying soup is very light and fulfilling and always full of green onions, my fav! Prices are definitely higher than most Asian places considering it's not so stellar service and not so stellar decor. However I am always happy to support local businesses especially ones that bring back good childhood memories (I'm corny, I know). read more

There were no white people here... well, except for me. That is always a good sign right of the bat! I had the veggie/tofu egg noodle soup and it was chalk full of bok choy, broccoli and fried tofu. The broth was good but could have used a bit more flavor... mushrooms perhaps. I added my own kick and that helped. It was super yummy and super cheap and everything under the Vietnamese sun was on the menu. My only criticism is that the place sure could have used a dusting. It was a bit dir tay. read more

I've been going here since I was a child and it still tastes the same! I have only eaten the soup items and there always hit right on the spot. The rest of the menu looks good too, but I love the Wonton soup. Busy times are usually lunch on the weekends and dinner. Parking lot is tiny and spots are awkward. I recommend parking on the street unless you like door-dings or watching your car while you eat. Staff is friendly but usually not fluent in english so be patient and speak slow and clear ;) If you want to try something different, there is Vietnamese style beef jerky at the register for sale. Mi La Cay warms you up from a brisky day outside, especially when it's sprinkling. Their dishes are satisfying, notably the egg noodle soups. The broth is so delicious, the meat is juicy. You have your House Noodle Soup, BBQ Pork Noodle Soup or BBQ Duck Noodle Soup all with a whole fried shrimp. It's not a sleazy fried pancake with a 1.5 inch baby shrimp. Always order a side of the Chinese Domu/ Doughnuts/ Breadstick to go with your noodle soup. And why not grab an italian soda or che ba mau while you're at it. The service is welcoming and friendly. Good for groups, great for to-go orders. Who cares about the decor? You are at a restaurant for god sakes, it's all about the food. I am not a noodle lover but I love this noodle place. One of the best noodle restaurant I know in Seattle. Though, i would say that they could decorate their restaurant a bit better. They recently changed their tea cups and it is now much cleaner, which we really appreciate. I am not sure what kind of hot tea they use but it is super good and it smells real nice. A favorite for many years, this place has the best noodle broth soup as well as other authentic Vietnamese dishes that are pretty tasty . My favorites are Mi La Cay special noodle, Mi Viet Tim (duck soup with noodle), seafood chow neon, fried rice just to make a few. The menu offers so much variety that I haven't tried them on. The owner Trunk is a tiny bubbly lady that greets her customer with a friendly smile and cheerful attitude. This place offers dine in and is usually busy during lunch hours. Ample parking in front and nearby. Don't forget to order the Vietnamese coffee to wash down your meal. Some of the noodle soups on the menu can be ordered with either egg noodle or rice noodles. I usually order it in the dry version because I like it more flavorful with their oyster sauce on the noodles and order a side of soup broth. All kidding aside, Mi La Cay offers an array of provincial Vietnamese broth dishes that will be sure to tickle your tongue. My favorite here is the "Mi Thit Vit Quay" ordered dry. Otherwise known as Roasted Duck noodles. If you order anything Dry, a bowl of clear broth comes on the side, otherwise a regular bowl comes full of broth and full of food. The noodles are cooked just right here. Blended ingredients taste spectacular. Order your noodle dish, mix in some chili sauce and enjoy. This has been a family favorite for years. read more

(It was in the afternoon around 2) The place wasn't the tidiest, a couple of the cups of water had coffee (?) stains on the cup. I refused to drink it. We also ordered drinks, Strawberry Chaan (lemonade), Thai Tea, and Sodas. We got the other two first, and the sodas after we got our meal? We had to remind them. We ordered the House Special Noodle Soup with the soup on the side, and the BBQ Duck Noodle Soup with Soup on the side. And TONS of Chinese Doughnuts. You have an option of getting either egg noodles or rice noodles, figured to go with the "favorite/default" I chose the egg noodles. House Special had Fried Shrimp, Chicken, and Pork slices. I thought the noodles could use a little flavor, and looked a bit greasy, but eating it and then dunking the Chinese doughnut in the soup and sipping was actually pretty delish. BBQ duck, is the same just BBQ duck instead as the meat. It wasnt too salty, so it suited the flavor mix. I love, love, LOVE Chinese doughnuts. When the guy showed up he said, in irritation "Don't order from us again, this is too far away."?!?!?!?!?!!? I didn't get your name out of thin air. Your business is listed in eat24.com as being available for where I live. Needless to say, I've never ordered from them again.Guess what, if your delivery fee is MINIMUM $40 bucks you don't get to say anything to me about it being far away. You CHOSE your limits. To this day it's listed as being a possibility to me, as being in range. If you have a problem with that, you go back and tell whoever runs your online presence and tell whoever that it's too far, you don't say that to the customer. read more

It has been a while since I ate at the restaurant itself, but lately my work has been ordering delievery to us and it reminded me how much i enjoy their food. I only order their House Special Noodle Soup which i believe is #15 on the menu? Because that's all that i've ordered (beside fresh squeezed oj, which is good too!) i will only base my review on that dish and maybe the decor. Like many other had written, this place may need a little make-over. The inside is still the same as i remember as a kid. It's fairly clean in my opinion, although there's this distinct smell to the restaurant and i'm not quite sure if it's the food or the cleaning solution? maybe it's the combination , none-the-less i think they need to remodel and maybe "freshen" up the area. #15, it's such a yum yum dish. I like their egg noodle, it's different. There's this crunch to it, not the usual egg noodle you get at wonton joints. Within the soup theres, lettuce, chives, sometimes deep fried pork fat (AWESOME in the soup) couple different of meats which includes, sliced pork deep fried chicken and a shrimp embedded in this batter type thing (another fried object). The egg noodle and broth is okay. Not the best but not bad. But the duck leg here is THE BEST! The skin is so crispy even as a take-out order. And there is NO fat to pick out from under the skin.
