We took the bus to the boat and we were one of the first to arrive. THe pandan waffle was pretty good. But the fried chicken was a little disappointing. The first one came out and was not cook all the way through. They replaced it with another which was a little too cooked. The noodles were spiced well, but not memorable. The staff were very nice and the restaurant was cute.
YUM YUM YUM. this was only has a few options which are mainly fried chicken with variations on the side. The food was amazing and was brought out super hot. I also loved the tamarind drink/slushy. All of the food was great. The pandan waffles smelt amazing too. I'd like to try that next time. It's located in an iffy area, but don't let that detour you
Genuinely surprised that I would enjoy this place so much because I came here thinking, "well this is just rice and chicken, so what could make this place so special?" I was left with a pleasant surprise and understanding of the hype of this place, because the chicken was so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I got "com ga" which translates to "chicken and rice." This place only really serves like three dish on their menu, with a rotating choice of base from noodles to rice. The place is right next to their sister location, Pho bar, and share a parking space. It is nice and clean on the inside, and like the name the restaurant is shape like a boat! So far I have been here twice and would definitely come back for a warm meal. The staff were helpful and pleasant! It was roughly a 30 minute wait for the food, but that is to be expected considering this is not a fast-food Restaurant (:
I love a good restaurant that has a small selection of things on their menu because they know how to do it right. The chicken was fried perfectly and the flavor was really good. The noodles were also flavorful and I liked the mix of vegetables that it came with. The soup was simple but had so much depth in flavor. We did wait close to 20 to 30 minutes because everything is made fresh to order. The staff is friendly and nice. Yes, the restaurant is shaped like about and has a few tables inside. So glad I finally got to try this place and I highly recommend!
A Vietnamese spin on chicken and waffles. Sat the bar and watched the two guys behind the counter meticulously prepare waffles and beverages. We were then rewarded with crazy delicious fried Cornish game hens, rice, noodle soup and salad. Glad we saved enough room for the waffles, both pandan and banana with coconut cream were perfect. All set in a divey boat on a corner in Little Saigon.
4.5 stars :) I have been wanting to check out this spot for a while and I am so glad I was able to this past weekend! Located in a pretty tight parking lot that is shared with the famous Pho Bac, street parking is likely going to be your best bet. I recommend going a couple of streets over and walking to save yourself the hassle. The restaurant itself is fairly small so a large party would definitely have some trouble during rush times. My partner and I came in for a late lunch and did not have trouble getting seated. The menu is small and features really great options. We went with the Com Ga Mam Toi (Chicken Rice) which teams to be the featured dish. It was a perfect size to share! The rice was perfectly flavorful and so moist. The chicken was SO GOOD! Nice and crispy and was perfectly salty, slightly sweet and tangy. A side of warm soup was served with the dish which made it a warm and comforting meal. We were very happy with our meal and left waiting to come back :)
This is mostly a 4.5 star review --- this place have been on my list for a while now and I finally decided to check it out. The place looks small on the outside but it was quite spacious on the inside. You had the option to do bar seating or table. There is one person doing everything in front but it wasn't busy and she got it down. We ordered: Chicken and rice: 4/5 --- I love each component of this dish. The rice was soft, the chicken was tender but crispy l, the soup was honey and refreshing and went well with the side of veggies. However, I was expecting more flavor from the rice considering it was in chicken fat. Also, I didn't really care to eat it together as a whole. Tofu noodles 3.5/5 ---flavor was good for the first few bites, then it got too sweet for me. They ran out of tofu so I asked to sub it for an egg instead. It was ok, nothing really special. Waffle dessert 10/5--probably the best thing here. The waffles was chewy and had a slight crunch and it went really well with the cream. You can get pandan flavor or banana or half/half Overall, it was a good place. I like that there was parking, small menu, and everything was straight forward. You get a slight discount if you pay cash as well.
THIS PLACE IS SO GOOD I haven't cleared a plate like that in a minute. Chicken fried to perfection w a sweet sauce that compliments well. The garlic noodles were seasoned perfectly and it was the perfect portion for one! Highly recommend and I will be returning!
4.5 Star. This is a instagram worthy restaurant. Because of the combo big meal, it is photogenic items. Their menu is very simple. It is garlic Cornish hen with something combo. We got the chicken with rice or noodles. The dish is very full filling. The fried garlic is very crispy on the surface. The rice, small salad and the soup is tasty. Overall is very good dish. We got the dessert as pandan waffle and coco egg whip. This is a good dessert.
The Boat is super elite comfort food! The fried chicken here is SO good, arguably better than the fried chicken at The Chicken Supply near Greenlake. Get the mi tron, the noodles and super fresh and flavorful and together with the soup are a perfect complement to the delicious chicken. The pandan waffles are also very tasty, they're perhaps the best waffles I've ever had. They're super fluffy and have a strong pandan flavor that matches well with the creamy dip. The Che chuoi cognac - tapioca with caramelized bananas - is an interesting alternative to the sweet cream, but I prefer the cream because it complements the flavor of the waffles better, is less sugary, and is $4 cheaper. The service and ambience are both pretty mediocre, the waiters aren't that active and sometimes you have to go to the counter to ask them questions. The restaurant is also in a relatively shady area of town but good food doesn't care about the surroundings! 4.8/5
Mì Trộn: This plate was very filling! The chicken was nicely crisp on the skin. The dark meat portions were moist, though the breast area was a bit dry. The sauce was lovely! The noodles were great and flavorful. Bánh Kẹp (Pandan): The waffles alone were a 10/10. The outside was slightly crispy and soft inside. The coco egg whip was also amazing! There was one party ahead of us when we arrived on a weekend around noon. The food took less than 20 minutes to arrive after being seated. At the end, you pay at the front where the register is.
Great portions, fairly priced, and amazing flavor throughout all the entrée dishes. The mì trộn was mixed with a very unique sauce, but it was still very good! The bánh kẹp was a pass for us -- it tasted very bitter. There's another item on the dessert menu though, so we'll be back to try more dishes and a different dessert.
Super crunchy, juicy, savory, sweet, garlic crusted yumminess! You get a choice of sides depending on what version you order. We got the chrysanthemum salad and turmeric rice and the noodles which both came with broth. The game hens are just the right size to take on the glazed crust. You will want to use your hands to get to all the goodness. The noodles were fresh with a nice sesame flavor. The salad was refreshing with pickled spiced carrots on top. The rice helped to balance all the flavors. We also ordered Vietnamese coffee which was oh so strong! And a coconut juice coffee that had freshly pieced of young coconut in it. Those completed our delicious meal nicely. Great and friendly service. Cozy tables area and seats at the bar. We will definitely be back for the pandan and banana waffles but we're too full this visit to try them.
Overall: 5 stars Fun brunch joint which is a literal boat built to utilize a triangular plot of land. This place uniquely has an interesting set of Filipino options for brunch, which adds to the diversity of options in Seattle! Waffle and Sago - The most exciting item on their brunch menu with so much going on, with two flavors of waffle, and a warm bowl of coconut sago. I love that the waffle flavors prominently come through and just soaks up the broth to give it that additional tropical complexity. I was here with friends catching up over brunch. Seating is quite limited at this place with several tables and a few bar seats. Service is quick and the food was ready about just when we expected it. The coffee (not shown in photos) was great. It was robusta coffee with coconut water which is refreshing on a nice sunny day. The chicken was a bit tough to eat, honestly a little over cooked but very flavorful. My personal opinion, there is too much sauce for the chicken. The waffle was great! Pandan had better texture, flaky and pairs really well with the coconut cream. Banana was somehow not as flaky and has more of a subtle taste but still paired well with the coconut cream. Overall, a great experience for first time! I'll be coming back for the waffles and coconut coffee in the future! read more
Went with some friends for the first time and what a memorable experience. The food was delicious and the cocktail was a new experience. My cocktail was a pho broth washed shot of Jameson and it came with a pho broth chaser. Hope I got that right but I almost don't wanna drink Jameson any other way now. The parking lot was packed but there's a paid parking lot around corner so no problem. It looked packed but I think a lot of people were at the larger pho Bac sup shop (which is associated w The Boat, but The Boat had plenty of seating at 6:30 on a Sunday night. I think what I appreciated most was the service- we had a person who seated us and answered questions about the menu- my partner has some preferences and shared them with the first server but then the second server came by and already knew what my partner had shared with the first server. That's real dedication. Definitely coming back. read more

This place is so cute and a staple restaurant in the Chinatown/international district. The outside is shaped like an actual boat on the corner of Jackson St. Their menu is very simple, but oh so very delicious! There are only 3 options available and all of them the same, a crispy garlic chicken (they also have a veggie tofu option which I don't remember being on the menu when I first went) with your choice of how you would like your noodles or rice. I opted for the chicken and dry egg noodle option. All the plates come with a bowl of broth which I enjoyed. The garlic chicken was crispy, moist, and very flavorful. I love the fried garlic that they top the chicken with, I would eat this by the spoonful because I love garlic that much. The dry noodles are tossed in a pineapple maggi pate sauce which is super flavorful with a bit of sweetness, which paired so nicely with the chicken. For dessert, I got the pandan and strawberry waffles. These were super delicious and not too sweet, topped with a cloud cream and peanuts. I think they might use a tapioca flour or rice flour because the texture of the inside is kinda bouncy and reminds me a bit of the chewy texture of boba. The outside is crispy so the combo of crispy on the outside, soft on the inside is delicious. For my drink I chose a soda limeade which had a very nice sweet and tart flavor. Went here on a cold and rainy night and it was a great choice to come and eat here. This place specializes in chicken mostly. I got the Com Ga Mam Toi - Chicken And Rice. The chicken was very tender and flavorful. The skin was caramelized and fried with garlic and sweet n tangy texture. It was excellent especially with the copious amounts of garlic cooked with it. The rice was also excellent along with the salad it came with for a refreshing crunch. The broth was also very homely and nostalgic. The staff was super nice and attentive. There's cocktails and alcohol served here also. The parking is a bit of a shitshow cause they share a lot with their sister restsurant and the spaces are limited and sometimes chaotic with the weird tandem parking that I don't recommend getting into if you are in a hurry to leave just to get blocked in. The space is nice. Casual but also neon lights and bar seating which gives it a bit of a bar vibe too. read more
The Boat was the pick for a quick and delicious lunch! The menu is small and so is the restaurant but the chicken is packed with flavors and meals are satisfying. The com ga mam toi (chicken and rice) and mi ga tron (chicken and noodle) were our choices. The fried chicken topped with fried garlic was flavorful, juicy and fried to perfection. Noodles and rice were seasoned well and the chrysanthemum salad was the perfect side to balance out the fried chicken. The pandan iced tea was refreshing and light. We were in and out in about 35 minutes so definitely a quick stop for lunch. One thing to note is parking. The restaurant is located on a corner between 2 streets with little parking spaces. I would say that's the only down side but it's kinda expected for its location in Seattle. The space is cozy with a few booth seats, tables and bar seatings along the open bar. 5/5! read more

Very cute boat-shaped restaurant serving high-quality Vietnamese food. Having heard good things about it, I was excited to try it! I met some new friends there for an evening meal on a Friday night. it was not too crowded but a few other groups were there. The menu is very small/focused. They have a vegetarian option and then chicken options. I decided to try the soup option that comes with chicken. I was a little confused because on the menu it makes it sound like it is chicken soup, but the chicken and salad are all separate from the soup. Everything was delicious! I loved the flavor and the noodles of the soup. The chicken itself was crispy and sweet from the sauce. The salad was also nice and refreshing, with a tasty dressing. We then shared some of the pandan waffle. These run out so make sure to go early if you want to get some. I really liked the flavor and the coconut dip that it came with. Crispy waffles! The only miss was the service, which was rather slow. The waitress was friendly, but I did have to ask several times for a to-go container at the end. read more

The highlight of this place for me is the Banana Waffle and Pandan Waffle! Both are chewy on the inside and crispy on the outside, served with salted coconut cream. This combo is perfect and really reminds me of Southeast Asia! The chicken itself is quite savory, leaning a bit salty. My only wish is that it could be crispier. The noodles in the Mi Tron are savory-sweet and very tasty, which I really enjoyed. The chicken and rice are decent but same thing-the chicken could use a bit more crispiness, but the rice is very flavorful! The indoor space is unique, featuring a boat-shaped decor that matches the name of the store. The staff are very kind and friendly. I would definitely visit again and I really miss the mochi waffle here! read more

tldr: again and again, you'll find me here with chicken, waffles and tamarind drink! ambiance: very cute, lots of decor, not many seating, well lit, and has lots of windows to look out and ponder what your life has been. service: great service, they never left my group astray, checked on us enough times to keep us comfy. food: when i want chicken and waffles, i'm here.. the chicken is crispy and tasty! I also tried the tamarind drink since I wanted something a bit sour but still sweet - and omg that hit the spot! I'll be ordering it here on forward. Lastly, you cannot leave without the pandan waffles! The coconut cream is light and airy with just the right amount of sweetness. I am obsessed with the cream that they pair with the waffles. I came in on a Thursday afternoon and the server was kind! Inside was clean and I love how the building is literally shaped like a boat haha. The food was ready in a decent amount of time and smelled great! The chicken was nice and crispy on the outside and the glaze/sauce was a good mix between sweet and savory. The broth was comforting and not too salty. The noodles on the side had great flavor, especially the pieces of meat. The cabbage under the noodles were a good refresher. The waffles were YUMMY. My favorite part of my visit, honestly. Good crunch on the outside but chewy and mochi-like on the inside. The flavor of the waffles alone is on the mild side, but that is why it goes well with the cream on the side! I just went today and want another plate of those waffles already... read more
This place did not disappoint. Every single item on our plates was packed with flavor. When we walked in, it was pretty quiet. However, we must have beat the rush because the place quickly started to fill up with their limited seating. The bar seating was filled and overflow seating outside was also quickly filled. The Cornish hens packed intense flavor and were super juicy. I was concerned that they might be a little dry but I was amazed at how delicious and tender and succulent they were. The rice was aromatic and cooked perfectly. The broth was light but filled with umami and flavor. The salad was bright, crunchy & slightly sweet. All the flavors worked so well together. The pandan waffles were perfection with cream. The perfect chew to the waffle and so fragrant with pandan. I could eat a dozen of these. Simply said, everything we had absolutely hit the mark. Can't believe we waited so long to visit, but we will definitely add this into our regular rotation. If you pay with cash, you get a discount! read more
Finally decided to this place a try! From what I remember, I heard it was a super tiny dining space so I half expected to see it full and was just going to go next door but we lucked out and got a table right away! Bonus points starting off strong but kind of sizzled... the menu is fairly small, literally you get chicken and rice or chicken and noodles, which is totally okay! My husband and I decided one of each. The wait... I really wish there was a disclaimer somewhere verbally or written that it would take 20-30 minutes for our dishes to come out. To be fair, I knew that it would take awhile considering it's a whole chicken (or part of one anyways). However, in a bias opinion, I was HUNGRY. I had a dental appointment the day before, couldn't eat for 24+ hours... and this was going to be my first meal. It felt like an hour to be honest, if I knew it would take that long, I would have ordered some waffles at least... as I stared and drooled at 3-4 orders of waffles go out while I wait for my own dish. I actually ordered the noodles when I normally like rice with my dishes and vice versa for my husband. After 2 bites, we both just looked at each other and decided to swap. The food was good but because I was hangry at this point, I did not appreciate having to "work for my food" haha! It got messy, my fingers are sticky, I have to pick bone pieces out of my mouthful of food.. it was not fun. But taste? It was pretty good. I don't think it had the "WOW" factor I was looking for but it was pretty good. It was also quite the drive coming out here so there's that too but yea. Came here for lunch, ordered an ice coffee and the rice dish. Coffee was strong and the dish was flavorful. With the broth on the side definitely hit the spot. This is a different type of com ga than what I know in Maryland but still good. read more
The Boat is an anchor in Chinatown for flavor-packed Vietnamese food. Although the menu is small and the space is limited, the food is the engine here that drives this ship. The restaurant is shaped like a boat but don't let that influence your experience. We were seated and looked at the menu with less than 8 selections. We chose the Mi Tron garlic cornish hen, dry egg noodle, tossed maggi and pineapple pate sauce. Our other selection was the Com Ga Mom Toi garlic cornish hen, chrysanthemum salad, tumeric rice and chicken broth. The hens had a delicious crispy skin with intense moisture in the meat. The flavor here is also intense but beautifully done. The dry egg noodles have pork with herbs coated in a tasty sauce. The tumeric rice was equally impressive and flavor packed. The exterior restaurant is not even close to what lies behind the doors. It blew us away as we had no left overs. My one suggestion is don't wear a white shirt to dine here. The hens and sauce will have you licking your fingers repeatedly. At The Boat, one must dive into the meal as you won't want to leave any flavor on the plate. This is a true gem in the rough. If you are are looking for an inspirational meal stuffed with flavor, get on THE BOAT. It is a pleasureful voyage. Great job! read more
I had been curious about The Boat for a while and finally stopped by for dinner on a Friday night. The experience was a bit mixed for me. We ordered the Com Ga Mam Toi, which came with garlic Cornish hen, yellow rice, chrysanthemum salad, and chicken broth. The portion was generous and the presentation was nice, but the flavors didn't really land for me. The hen was cooked well but was on the sweeter side, which just isn't my preference. My partner liked it though, so it might come down to personal taste i guess. The chicken broth was decent, and the turmeric rice was fine as well. We also got a side of noodles with fried egg, but the noodles were a little tough. I ended up adding some broth to soften them, which helped. Somethings to consider from my experience - My water glass had something in it, and the server didn't seem to notice or offer a replacement. The space is also pretty noisy with limited seating, so it's not the most relaxing place to sit and eat. Got the garlic chicken with egg noodle soup. It was a cold seattle day so this was the perfect combo to warm up with. The service was great and the parking lot was manageable on a Thursday afternoon. I got a Vietnamese coffee with my meals and it was perfect. Definitely recommend especially if you are familiar with pho bac. read more
I'm not sure what happened with this place but it's not as good as it used to be. The rice is mushy, the sauce of the chicken isn't as good as before, and the salad is just ok. The pandan waffle is so oily and has a weird flavor. I remember the sauce of the chicken as having a good balance of sweet, salty, and garlicky but the proportions are just off. The service is good so no complaints there. The space is cute, clean, and cozy. I hope the food gets better.... read more
Ambiance-has hole in the wall feeling but cozy. We came here at 6:30 on a Saturday and barely beat the crowd. Service--very nice staff. Friendly and checked in on us. Food--most flavorful Viet food since I moved here from CA. Sooo good. The pandan and banana waffles were delicious, dipped in a coconut cream whipped cream mixture. Good portions for the price! I love the style of ordering and the few options from which you get to choose (which makes ordering easier). The meat is perfectly crispy and fried, and you can't go wrong with any options. The noodle soup is flavorful and comforting. Parking is tough, so you may have to circle around multiple times before getting a spot. read more

10/10 stars! The chicken was juicy and extremely well seasoned. Came here right when it opened so I had no problem with parking and no wait. Loved how they played Vietnamese r&b, it really added to the vibe. Would highly recommend! read more

Ive eaten here multiple times and looks forward to every meal. The menu is simplistic and allows me who is indecisive to make a quicker decision. This time around we got the chicken with dry noodles and chicken with soup noodles. Each dish comes with a chrysanthemum salad. I feel whichever mood you're in and what the weather is like will determine which dish you choose. What I've noticed is that the portions may have gotten slightly smaller. It's in regards to the salad and either how much rice comes with the dish or how much noodles come with the soup. Regardless the dishes themselves are tasty. I highly recommend the pandan waffles paired with the coconut cream. read more

The boat is such a chill spot to have a meal, where there's bar seating and also a few tables. It's pretty chilly inside, so bring a jacket! I like having less menu choices, where the specialize in one thing, chicken with noodles/rice/soup. Although I did notice that there's a new (new to me maybe?) tofu option! Welcome vegetarian friends! Dry noodle: you get some salad on the bottom of your bowl, noodles with sauce on top, side of broth, chicken. I like asking for lime and the side of salt/pepper to dip some bites of chicken in. The noodles felt a little grainy this time, but a little better texture after I spooned some broth over it. This is the version I get when I'm not feeling like soup noodles. Soup noodle: I like this version because I'm just a soup gal! They have chillies you can add from the table and I like the salad on the side. Although I think the salad has gotten smaller in the past year. Overall, I recommend the soup noodle or dry noodle. I've tried the chicken rice and didn't like it as much as the noodles! read more
Not sure if this is typical, but the restaurant was pretty empty on a Monday night. This place serves only fried chicken with rice or noodles and waffles on the side. I tried the fried chicken garlic rice. The salad was fine, tasted better than I expected. The chicken was also pretty good but a bit small. The soup was a bit too salty for me. read more
