cơm gà mắm tỏi (garlic cornish hen, tumeric rice, chryśanthemum salad, chicken broth)
Christina G.

The Boat is a fun spot to check out, especially with its boat-shaped interior! I got the cơm gà mắm tỏi, which came with garlic Cornish hen, turmeric rice, chrysanthemum salad, and chicken broth. The dark meat was juicy, although the white meat was a little dry. My favorite part was the chicken's crust, which added a great texture to the dish and had a ton of flavor. The rice was lightly seasoned and paired well with everything, while the broth was flavorful without being too heavy and complemented the chicken nicely. Overall, it was a solid meal with a fun atmosphere and nice service.

I was here with friends catching up over brunch. Seating is quite limited at this place with several tables and a few bar seats. Service is quick and the food was ready about just when we expected it. The coffee (not shown in photos) was great. It was robusta coffee with coconut water which is refreshing on a nice sunny day. The chicken was a bit tough to eat, honestly a little over cooked but very flavorful. My personal opinion, there is too much sauce for the chicken. The waffle was great! Pandan had better texture, flaky and pairs really well with the coconut cream. Banana was somehow not as flaky and has more of a subtle taste but still paired well with the coconut cream. Overall, a great experience for first time! I'll be coming back for the waffles and coconut coffee in the future!

this is where i go when i want vietnamese comfort food. their waffles are made fresh to order and are the best i've had in seattle! definitely worth the wait. their menu is simple - they're known for their egg noodle and chicken dish and that's all they serve but they do it very well. the chicken is crisp and flavorful on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. their vietnamese coffee is also very yummy. tip: there's also a discount if you pay with cash

Overall: 5 stars Fun brunch joint which is a literal boat built to utilize a triangular plot of land. This place uniquely has an interesting set of Filipino options for brunch, which adds to the diversity of options in Seattle! Waffle and Sago - The most exciting item on their brunch menu with so much going on, with two flavors of waffle, and a warm bowl of coconut sago. I love that the waffle flavors prominently come through and just soaks up the broth to give it that additional tropical complexity. We took the bus to the boat and we were one of the first to arrive. THe pandan waffle was pretty good. But the fried chicken was a little disappointing. The first one came out and was not cook all the way through. They replaced it with another which was a little too cooked. The noodles were spiced well, but not memorable. The staff were very nice and the restaurant was cute.

YUM YUM YUM. this was only has a few options which are mainly fried chicken with variations on the side. The food was amazing and was brought out super hot. I also loved the tamarind drink/slushy. All of the food was great. The pandan waffles smelt amazing too. I'd like to try that next time. It's located in an iffy area, but don't let that detour you

Genuinely surprised that I would enjoy this place so much because I came here thinking, "well this is just rice and chicken, so what could make this place so special?" I was left with a pleasant surprise and understanding of the hype of this place, because the chicken was so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I got "com ga" which translates to "chicken and rice." This place only really serves like three dish on their menu, with a rotating choice of base from noodles to rice. The place is right next to their sister location, Pho bar, and share a parking space. It is nice and clean on the inside, and like the name the restaurant is shape like a boat! So far I have been here twice and would definitely come back for a warm meal. The staff were helpful and pleasant! It was roughly a 30 minute wait for the food, but that is to be expected considering this is not a fast-food Restaurant (:

4.5 stars :) I have been wanting to check out this spot for a while and I am so glad I was able to this past weekend! Located in a pretty tight parking lot that is shared with the famous Pho Bac, street parking is likely going to be your best bet. I recommend going a couple of streets over and walking to save yourself the hassle. The restaurant itself is fairly small so a large party would definitely have some trouble during rush times. My partner and I came in for a late lunch and did not have trouble getting seated. The menu is small and features really great options. We went with the Com Ga Mam Toi (Chicken Rice) which teams to be the featured dish. It was a perfect size to share! The rice was perfectly flavorful and so moist. The chicken was SO GOOD! Nice and crispy and was perfectly salty, slightly sweet and tangy. A side of warm soup was served with the dish which made it a warm and comforting meal. We were very happy with our meal and left waiting to come back :)

Went with some friends for the first time and what a memorable experience. The food was delicious and the cocktail was a new experience. My cocktail was a pho broth washed shot of Jameson and it came with a pho broth chaser. Hope I got that right but I almost don't wanna drink Jameson any other way now. The parking lot was packed but there's a paid parking lot around corner so no problem. It looked packed but I think a lot of people were at the larger pho Bac sup shop (which is associated w The Boat, but The Boat had plenty of seating at 6:30 on a Sunday night. I think what I appreciated most was the service- we had a person who seated us and answered questions about the menu- my partner has some preferences and shared them with the first server but then the second server came by and already knew what my partner had shared with the first server. That's real dedication. Definitely coming back.

I love a good restaurant that has a small selection of things on their menu because they know how to do it right. The chicken was fried perfectly and the flavor was really good. The noodles were also flavorful and I liked the mix of vegetables that it came with. The soup was simple but had so much depth in flavor. We did wait close to 20 to 30 minutes because everything is made fresh to order. The staff is friendly and nice. Yes, the restaurant is shaped like about and has a few tables inside. So glad I finally got to try this place and I highly recommend!

A Vietnamese spin on chicken and waffles. Sat the bar and watched the two guys behind the counter meticulously prepare waffles and beverages. We were then rewarded with crazy delicious fried Cornish game hens, rice, noodle soup and salad. Glad we saved enough room for the waffles, both pandan and banana with coconut cream were perfect. All set in a divey boat on a corner in Little Saigon.

4.5 Star. This is a instagram worthy restaurant. Because of the combo big meal, it is photogenic items. Their menu is very simple. It is garlic Cornish hen with something combo. We got the chicken with rice or noodles. The dish is very full filling. The fried garlic is very crispy on the surface. The rice, small salad and the soup is tasty. Overall is very good dish. We got the dessert as pandan waffle and coco egg whip. This is a good dessert.

This is mostly a 4.5 star review --- this place have been on my list for a while now and I finally decided to check it out. The place looks small on the outside but it was quite spacious on the inside. You had the option to do bar seating or table. There is one person doing everything in front but it wasn't busy and she got it down. We ordered: Chicken and rice: 4/5 --- I love each component of this dish. The rice was soft, the chicken was tender but crispy l, the soup was honey and refreshing and went well with the side of veggies. However, I was expecting more flavor from the rice considering it was in chicken fat. Also, I didn't really care to eat it together as a whole. Tofu noodles 3.5/5 ---flavor was good for the first few bites, then it got too sweet for me. They ran out of tofu so I asked to sub it for an egg instead. It was ok, nothing really special. Waffle dessert 10/5--probably the best thing here. The waffles was chewy and had a slight crunch and it went really well with the cream. You can get pandan flavor or banana or half/half Overall, it was a good place. I like that there was parking, small menu, and everything was straight forward. You get a slight discount if you pay cash as well.

I later found out that both Anthony Bourdain and Mike Chen have visited, which made me appreciate the place even more. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the food is outstanding. My favorite is the giant crispy catfish served with vermicelli and a delicious dipping sauce. The grilled conch is also excellent and definitely worth ordering. If you're looking for authentic Vietnamese food, great service, and some really good dishes, I highly recommend giving Rainier Restaurant a try. It warmed and comforted me on this chilly Saturday. The Miss Pho Special with the huge bone-in beef rib, rare thinly sliced steak, well-done brisket, meatballs, tendon, tripe, and topped with a creamy raw egg yolk (very authentic Vietnamese-style) was very fun to try. I requested a side of sliced garlic and chili oil to mix in my pho and it added another amazing layer of flavor and texture. My only critique of the bone-in beef rib is that I think it could have been cooked even longer because I got some chewy parts that were tough to eat and a lot of the meat did not easily fall off the bone like I thought it should. Miss Pho is a super busy and popular restaurant. So be prepared to wait and make sure to add your name on the list at the register right away. Customer service can be mixed but I've been lucky to have gotten attentive and friendly service both times I've eaten there. Kudos to the owner who drained my pho of the broth leftover that I was taking to go and gave me a whole fresh separate complimentary container of broth because she wanted to make sure when I ate my leftover pho later that the noodles wouldn't get as soggy. On the other hand, some remarkably bizarre choices and inexplicably bad dishes leave you thoroughly confused. I'm a positive person (kind of), so let's start with the good. Their bahn tieu, or hollow bread, ranks up there as maybe the best bread-as-an-appetizer in the city. From the moment you cut it in half and feel the hiss of the steam escaping from the middle, you know it's going to be good. The outside is crispy, and the inside is so unbelievably fluffy it's wild. The honey coating on the bottom just adds that slightly sweet flavor that makes it even better, and the honey butter works perfectly to spread and let melt on the hot bread inside. For just $4, it's comes at an unbelievable price. We liked ours so much we ordered it again at the end. Following that same theme, the next thing we had, the toasted bahn mi, was also incredible. This is definitely not your typical bahn mi - as it comes in two mini triangle shaped pieces with a fried exterior. This outside has the perfect crunch and slight oiliness in its texture, and the inside of chicken liver parfait and pork floss just works so well. The nuoc cham also has essentially every flavor - sweet, salty, umami, spicy - it's the perfect dipping sauce. Ok, now let's talk about the truly incomprehensible. The rockfish fish and chips contains some of the worst fried fish I've ever had. The breading is beyond repair - it's practically soggy to the touch. When taking a bite out of the fish in your fish and chips feels like eating a bamboo shoot, you've completely lost the plot. I shudder to think about how this would appear when put next to some of the other fried fish I've had in Seattle. There's no seasoning, and to make matters worse, something just tastes very off about the inside. I don't even mean that's its overcooked, which it is, but there's just something weird going on that I can't quite put my finger on. Also, the tartar sauce might be the worst I've ever had. It's essentially just a pickled salad. There's no fat - no mayo or anything to provide something good to dip the fish into. It's just watery, liquidy, and functions atrociously at its job of being a dipping sauce. At least the fries were decent enough. If that wasn't everything - there's two more things that went wrong. The first one of these is just laughable. When we sat at our table and tried to order from the lounge menu, which is an all-day menu (not just happy hour), we were told that we couldn't be served the lounge menu at our current table, and had to be moved to the lounge area. And then - completely serious - we were proceeded to be moved like three seats over, now told we were in the lounge area, and allowed to order the lounge menu. It was so ridiculous both of us couldn't stop laughing for like five minutes. Even now I find it incredulous. The fact that there was some great firewall standing between the lounge and main dining area that prevented them from bringing a lounge plate one iota outside the allocated area is exceptionally funny. The second one is a bit more annoying. When we got our table, we were asked if we wanted still or sparkling water. I found this a bit odd - it reminded me of Europe - but I didn't think too much of it and asked for still, assuming that like essentially every restaurant in the US - the water would be complimentary. It was my absolute shock that we were charged 12 (twelve) American dollars for water. What!? In the land of the free? And the home of the brave? Really? Twelve dollars? Water? You know the kind where Seattle has some of the best tap water in the country, and you can literally just fill that up. Granted, it was probably partially our fault for not blocking the question entirely and asking for tap water from the start, but I assumed they asked between these two options to just determine the type of water we wanted. Overall, this has a couple of the highest highs, but the lows here are in the depths of hell. 5/10

We also got the short ribs (which I didn't try) and I was told they were even more delicious than the chicken. My wife's sister bit into one of the ribs and raised her head up saying, "yummmm." The mì quảng was really good, and the bún Thái Lan stood out -- super coconutty with a strong lemongrass flavor (which I love). The owner takes pride on his dishes, He even hooked it up with some spicy chili oil on the side. Definitely recommend for others to try.
