The Boat is a fun spot to check out, especially with its boat-shaped interior! I got the cơm gà mắm tỏi, which came with garlic Cornish hen, turmeric rice, chrysanthemum salad, and chicken broth. The dark meat was juicy, although the white meat was a little dry. My favorite part was the chicken's crust, which added a great texture to the dish and had a ton of flavor. The rice was lightly seasoned and paired well with everything, while the broth was flavorful without being too heavy and complemented the chicken nicely. Overall, it was a solid meal with a fun atmosphere and nice service.
I was here with friends catching up over brunch. Seating is quite limited at this place with several tables and a few bar seats. Service is quick and the food was ready about just when we expected it. The coffee (not shown in photos) was great. It was robusta coffee with coconut water which is refreshing on a nice sunny day. The chicken was a bit tough to eat, honestly a little over cooked but very flavorful. My personal opinion, there is too much sauce for the chicken. The waffle was great! Pandan had better texture, flaky and pairs really well with the coconut cream. Banana was somehow not as flaky and has more of a subtle taste but still paired well with the coconut cream. Overall, a great experience for first time! I'll be coming back for the waffles and coconut coffee in the future!
this is where i go when i want vietnamese comfort food. their waffles are made fresh to order and are the best i've had in seattle! definitely worth the wait. their menu is simple - they're known for their egg noodle and chicken dish and that's all they serve but they do it very well. the chicken is crisp and flavorful on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside. their vietnamese coffee is also very yummy. tip: there's also a discount if you pay with cash
Overall: 5 stars Fun brunch joint which is a literal boat built to utilize a triangular plot of land. This place uniquely has an interesting set of Filipino options for brunch, which adds to the diversity of options in Seattle! Waffle and Sago - The most exciting item on their brunch menu with so much going on, with two flavors of waffle, and a warm bowl of coconut sago. I love that the waffle flavors prominently come through and just soaks up the broth to give it that additional tropical complexity. We took the bus to the boat and we were one of the first to arrive. THe pandan waffle was pretty good. But the fried chicken was a little disappointing. The first one came out and was not cook all the way through. They replaced it with another which was a little too cooked. The noodles were spiced well, but not memorable. The staff were very nice and the restaurant was cute.
YUM YUM YUM. this was only has a few options which are mainly fried chicken with variations on the side. The food was amazing and was brought out super hot. I also loved the tamarind drink/slushy. All of the food was great. The pandan waffles smelt amazing too. I'd like to try that next time. It's located in an iffy area, but don't let that detour you
Genuinely surprised that I would enjoy this place so much because I came here thinking, "well this is just rice and chicken, so what could make this place so special?" I was left with a pleasant surprise and understanding of the hype of this place, because the chicken was so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I got "com ga" which translates to "chicken and rice." This place only really serves like three dish on their menu, with a rotating choice of base from noodles to rice. The place is right next to their sister location, Pho bar, and share a parking space. It is nice and clean on the inside, and like the name the restaurant is shape like a boat! So far I have been here twice and would definitely come back for a warm meal. The staff were helpful and pleasant! It was roughly a 30 minute wait for the food, but that is to be expected considering this is not a fast-food Restaurant (:
4.5 stars :) I have been wanting to check out this spot for a while and I am so glad I was able to this past weekend! Located in a pretty tight parking lot that is shared with the famous Pho Bac, street parking is likely going to be your best bet. I recommend going a couple of streets over and walking to save yourself the hassle. The restaurant itself is fairly small so a large party would definitely have some trouble during rush times. My partner and I came in for a late lunch and did not have trouble getting seated. The menu is small and features really great options. We went with the Com Ga Mam Toi (Chicken Rice) which teams to be the featured dish. It was a perfect size to share! The rice was perfectly flavorful and so moist. The chicken was SO GOOD! Nice and crispy and was perfectly salty, slightly sweet and tangy. A side of warm soup was served with the dish which made it a warm and comforting meal. We were very happy with our meal and left waiting to come back :)
Went with some friends for the first time and what a memorable experience. The food was delicious and the cocktail was a new experience. My cocktail was a pho broth washed shot of Jameson and it came with a pho broth chaser. Hope I got that right but I almost don't wanna drink Jameson any other way now. The parking lot was packed but there's a paid parking lot around corner so no problem. It looked packed but I think a lot of people were at the larger pho Bac sup shop (which is associated w The Boat, but The Boat had plenty of seating at 6:30 on a Sunday night. I think what I appreciated most was the service- we had a person who seated us and answered questions about the menu- my partner has some preferences and shared them with the first server but then the second server came by and already knew what my partner had shared with the first server. That's real dedication. Definitely coming back.
I love a good restaurant that has a small selection of things on their menu because they know how to do it right. The chicken was fried perfectly and the flavor was really good. The noodles were also flavorful and I liked the mix of vegetables that it came with. The soup was simple but had so much depth in flavor. We did wait close to 20 to 30 minutes because everything is made fresh to order. The staff is friendly and nice. Yes, the restaurant is shaped like about and has a few tables inside. So glad I finally got to try this place and I highly recommend!
A Vietnamese spin on chicken and waffles. Sat the bar and watched the two guys behind the counter meticulously prepare waffles and beverages. We were then rewarded with crazy delicious fried Cornish game hens, rice, noodle soup and salad. Glad we saved enough room for the waffles, both pandan and banana with coconut cream were perfect. All set in a divey boat on a corner in Little Saigon.
4.5 Star. This is a instagram worthy restaurant. Because of the combo big meal, it is photogenic items. Their menu is very simple. It is garlic Cornish hen with something combo. We got the chicken with rice or noodles. The dish is very full filling. The fried garlic is very crispy on the surface. The rice, small salad and the soup is tasty. Overall is very good dish. We got the dessert as pandan waffle and coco egg whip. This is a good dessert.
This is mostly a 4.5 star review --- this place have been on my list for a while now and I finally decided to check it out. The place looks small on the outside but it was quite spacious on the inside. You had the option to do bar seating or table. There is one person doing everything in front but it wasn't busy and she got it down. We ordered: Chicken and rice: 4/5 --- I love each component of this dish. The rice was soft, the chicken was tender but crispy l, the soup was honey and refreshing and went well with the side of veggies. However, I was expecting more flavor from the rice considering it was in chicken fat. Also, I didn't really care to eat it together as a whole. Tofu noodles 3.5/5 ---flavor was good for the first few bites, then it got too sweet for me. They ran out of tofu so I asked to sub it for an egg instead. It was ok, nothing really special. Waffle dessert 10/5--probably the best thing here. The waffles was chewy and had a slight crunch and it went really well with the cream. You can get pandan flavor or banana or half/half Overall, it was a good place. I like that there was parking, small menu, and everything was straight forward. You get a slight discount if you pay cash as well.
Really simple menu where everything is done well. I got the chicken with rice however I should've got it with noodle as that's what everyone got. The chicken is juicy and super flavorful. Loved the sauce that it came with. I also really liked the broth which was rich in flavorful and a delicious side. Highly recommend the pandan waffles too. It comes with a slightly salty coconut cream sauce to dip into. Parking is a little difficult as it shares it with Pho Bac. Also, there's a sign in tablet right by the entrance door post which may be hard to see. read more

A Vietnamese garlic chicken restaurant offering either rice, dry noodle, or noodle soup as a side! As expected, their chicken was juicy and flavorful. All the sides (soup and salad) were tasty as well. The pandan and banana waffles were AMAZING, the perfect balance of sweet and salty with the coconut cream. Highly recommend trying both as the table was split on which was their favorite. The pandan iced tea was also super tasty and refreshing! Highly recommend as a non-alcoholic and non-caffeinated drink. We arrived earlier on a Saturday night (5:45) as a party of 6 and got a table in around 15 minutes! Definitely recommend coming earlier as their parking lot is tight, they are a small restaurant, and they don't take reservations. Service was attentive and an automatic 20% was added for gratuity. Super cute and clean place! read more
Stopped in here after a late lunch at Pho Bac (same owners, same parking lot) with the intention of only getting some waffles for dessert, but of course that all went out the window once we saw the chicken and other options. My party of 4 got a table right away (but then again, it was that weird period between lunch and dinner) on a Saturday and ordered: + Half garlic chicken + Viet waffles - half banana, half pandan + Coconut cloud coffee + Side chrysanthemum salad 5 stars for the waffles alone (especially the pandan). Coconut cloud coffee was also insanely good. The chicken and salad were honestly secondary but still great. Pandan waffles 4ever!!! read more
Im in the international district somewhat often, and The Boat has always caught my attention for its striking exterior, that being of a literal boat. Despite this, I had only tried it once. I came here with some friends on a Saturday since i was in the area. I had heard it was good, so we figured we could give it a try. The restaurant was pretty full, but we were able to get seated at the bar quite quickly. The first thing that struck me was the fact that the menu only had 3 options, which I quite like since it cuts down on the painstaking process of figuring out what sounds best. I ended up ordering the Mi Tron, which was composed of garlic chicken and egg noodles topped with a pineapple pate sauce. The egg noodle was absolutely delicious, with the outstanding sauce. The dish was rich, salty, and a bit of sweet, but it was balanced nicely by the bed of greens, which added a bit of freshness and color. The chicken, on the other hand was unfortunately a bit of a miss, while some parts of the chicken were super moist and flavorful, and other parts were a bit dry. The chicken looked like it would be super crispy, but some parts were more hard then crisp. Part of this is definitely because an entire tiny chicken was cooked at one time, which is bound to leave inconsistencies, so I won't harp on it too badly. As a side note, the limeade was super good! Anyways, moving on... As a dessert, my friends and I shared one of the half pandan half bananna waffles, which was outstanding. The pandan definitely had a better flavor, but the waffle was overall very enjoyable with a soft fluffy center and a deliciously crispy exterior. Overall, I can definitely recommend this restaurant. They do a lot of things phenomenally, and I really only had one thing I wished they improved on. read more

Came on a Sunday with my sister. They had a few outside tables available within 10 minutes, but didn't want to stay outside so it ended up being about a 20 minute wait. They do have heaters though! Even though the space wasn't big, they're very efficient at getting you in and out. They handed us menus and got our order before we even sat down so the food got to us pretty quick. Food was great, I was expecting the typical chicken sizes and figured we'd get two chicken thighs. But it's actually a small chicken, cornish hen? Food was a good amount and we both had leftovers. The waffles were AMAZING. I was expecting a mochi/chewy texture. But the outside was crispy, the inside soft and delicate. I would recommend the half and half flavor. The banana reminded of the cambodian fried bananas, very nostalgic. Even by itself it was good, but liked the coconut cream dip it came with. While the pandan tea was good, it wasn't a lot you were given so it went quick. Overall would recommend trying, but would make sure to try to time it so it isn't as big of a wait. Will definitely be back to try their other combinations! read more
Good to the last bite. My only complaint which really isn't a complaint is that the bowl of dried noodles gives the appearance of more is there but it's not as it sits on top of fresh veggies...cabbage maybe. And the drinks are good but way too small and overpriced for the size. Besides that you can't miss here and should try whatever your heart desires you will not go wrong with your choice. One recommendation for you is that of whatever you order does not have a fried egg add it in. You're welcome!! Let's talk about the service, it is great. The people are nice, and good at recommendations and the truth is they are genuinely kind. The restaurant is small so keep that in mind, despite being small it's easy to have a conversation. If you want a bigger menu and more space The owner owns the place next door with a bigger menu. The BIG question would I recommend and would I come back. The answer is simple YES!!! read more

Must visit and must eat when visiting Seattle. Even if the food weren't phenomenal, you would do it just for the pink boat structure alone. Luckily, the food is phenomenal, so good in fact that there's only one choice on the menu, and I would recommend getting the noodle soup because while the rice is good, the soup is even better and you get a larger quantity of it when you order the noodle soup option. However, the best thing there is coconut cloud cream that accompanies the waffles - definitely get every waffle offered (and a few to go as well). read more
We tried all three entrees on the menu: the dried noodles, noodle soup, and chicken rice. Flavor of chicken was good though some pieces were dry and some were moist. The pandan waffle with coconut cream was soo good, I def recc that. Love the concept of the restaurant and how its a boat! I'd be wary of having to use the bathroom while here though as it wasnt the cleanest read more
I came with a friend on a Sunday for lunch, and it took about 15-20 minutes before we got seated. The restaurant does have limited capacity so I'd recommend trying to avoid busy times. Also, be mindful that parking is very limited, so you should carpool if you can. We ordered the garlic chicken rice and noodles and both loved our dishes! The chicken had a great juicy flavor. Having the side of veggies was a nice balance to the meat. For dessert, we ordered the pandan waffles and loved the cream! It had a unique sweet flavor that matched well with the waffles Overall, this is a great hidden gem I hope more people are aware of. The staff are attentive and work hard to keep the restaurant running. I'd go back to eat everything again! read more

This place had such a simple menu, only three main dish options with options of sides. It's $19 for each dish but their portions are generous. Service was awful unfortunately. Server was on her phone the entire time, walked away when I asked for more water, forgot our waffle that we ordered until we reminded her. My friend had a precious similar experience with the same server. Other than that, the restaurant was very cool, loved how they set up the inside. Very little seating, they have outdoor seating. We came on a Monday around 6pm with five of us and sat at the bar area. Parking is horrible with the tiniest lot that shares with their sister restaurant. Glad I checked it out, wouldn't come back too often bc of the things I mentioned. read more

We came around 11:45a on a Saturday, there was no wait if you're okay with sitting at the counter. However, the parking lot was packed and had to find street parking. I chose the dry egg noodles option which was medium spicy. The fried chicken was tender inside and crispy outside. Comes with a lot of garlic! The soup was flavorful as well. It can get a bit loud once the restaurant is full, but overall a good dining experience! read more

On our recent trip to Seattle, The Boat was definitely of our most memorable dining experiences. To start off, you get to sit inside a restaurant in a little boat on the corner of the street. The have a pretty limited menu, but they definitely are doing something right because the garlic chicken is delicious with whatever side it comes with. I came with a group of three - me and two of my Vietnamese friends. I've never seen this garlic chicken dish in the US, but they've had it in Vietnam and love it. We ordered three dishes of the garlic chicken - one with egg noodles and two with rice. Food: Garlic Chicken - the chicken is phenomenal and makes my mouth water just thinking back to it. It's hot and crispy with an amazing fish sauce glaze and fried garlic all over. If you don't like fish sauce, then you may want to stay away because you'll smell like it for the rest of the day probably. Rice/noodles - the rice is flavorful and I usually prefer rice over noodles, but my fiancée loved the egg noodles in soup with it Chrysanthemum salad - this was pretty unique and different the usual "American" salad, but it actually went well with the dish. Definitely not for everyone though. Dessert: Half pink pineapple/half pandan waffle with coconut cloud cream - The salty coconut cream went really well with the waffle, which was not too sweet. My only complaint was that we didn't get two orders! Service was good and everyone was really nice. We saw the Vietnamese auntie in the back cooking up the fried chicken and she was super friendly too. Excellent and unique restaurant that I would definitely recommend to those visiting Seattle! read more
This spot only serves garlic chicken with either a choice of noodles or rice. Which both options were really good! I also highly recommend the pandan and banana waffles. It's one of the best waffles I've had! Space is definitely limited, but they also have a small outdoor porch area that's heated and it's dog-friendly! read more
I really love the concept of this restaurant! They specialize in basically one variety of a dish, and they do it well. We ordered a plate with noodles and another with rice. The chicken was amazingly juicy yet crispy on the outside with a crunchy fried garlic topping. All the sides like the soup and salad really add to balance out the chicken making for a lovely meal. We also got the waffles at the end and I was obsessed with the cream on the side. It is coconutty and a little salty which makes you want to keep coming back for more. We came on a Friday at lunch time so we didn't have to wait at all. read more
I've surprisingly never been to The Boat until recently, but I'm glad I finally got to check it out because I'll definitely be back! The simple menu makes it easy for customers to decide and ensures we get quality food every time. I got the rice plate and a coconut cloud coffee, and both were delicious! I was too full to order a waffle but they seemed quite popular because there were always waffles being made fresh. Wait will be long and parking is scarce, but once you can get in and out your name down on the iPad on the wall, the wait is worth it! read more
Its an extremely small cozy restaurant. I would recommend a quick meal or a last minute spot as big party may not be able to seat. The service was decent. The restaurant menu is interesting being that they only specialize in one type of dish. Which is the fried chicken. You can have Fried chicken with rice or broth noodles. All dishes come with salad and some kind of chicken broth. It was a comforting meal to say the least and very affordable. Highly recommended ! read more
This is one of the last places that I ate at during my trip to Seattle. I've seen a lot of rave reviews about this place, so I was eager to give it a shot. Parking was very difficult to find because it shares the same parking lot as Pho Bac. I think part of the issue was that there were no clear exit and entrance signs to the parking lot so many people were entering from the exit and vice versa. I would suggest trying to find street parking instead of battling the chaos in the parking lot. We were able to find parking a block away. The exterior of the restaurant is pink and in the shape of a boat which is super cute. The inside is small and you add your name to the list via tablet on the wall. It was very busy when we went but we were seated quickly. There are indoor and outdoor seating options. The outdoor seating does the job and it is covered. I appreciated how the tax is already included in the price listed on the menu. I ordered the mì gà chiên and my boyfriend got the mì tron. When we saw pandan waffles on the menu we could not pass it up and we got that as well. We are both from California and we are huge lovers of Vietnamese food! Visually, everything looked very tasty but I was left with only the taste of disappointment. Despite there being heaps of fried garlic pieces on the chicken, I could not taste any garlic. The fried garlic only added a textural element to the chicken and it seemed like it was just for display. The chicken was very moist and the salad had a zing of acidity which brightened the food. The soup broth for my noodles tasted like chicken bouillon cubes with green onions. BEWARE! I'm not sure if I am the only person to have experienced this but take your utensils, napkins, etc while you have the chance! I was taking a picture of our meal (lol the camera eats first!) and very abruptly the server came by and took away the utensil/napkin holder from out table and gave it to the table directly across from us. My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to have grabbed all of our utensils but this definitely caught us off guard. I saw the servers do this to multiple tables; every time without a word and every time without ever bringing it back. The pandan waffle was quite frankly one of the worst I've eaten. The outer crust of the waffle had the texture of rough toast and the first taste that I got was of burnt non-stick cooking spray. Upon picking up the waffle it was very greasy and the waffle was not fluffy. There was barely a hint of pandan taste. The most flavorful aspect of the whole dish was the coconut cream dip that was sweet/salty and it tasted very authentic. Overall, I think this restaurant is severely over hyped and I would not want to come back. I was happy that I got to experience this place but I would not strongly recommend it to others because the food is pretty mediocre. read more
Come here if you want a truly unique dining experience, the yummiest garlic chicken in a pink boat!! I was so excited to come here because it was nominated as the 2023 restaurant of the year by Seattle Met! I also have walked past it a couple times and was always interested in the interior. Inside is super cute, the windows have dragons drawn on them and a disco ball hung in the corner! The menu is small, but I like how there's limited options because they really focus on their speciality - the chicken! There were also really tasty looking drinks and I was interested in this pandan one. I decided to get the garlic chicken with rice, broth, and salad! I thought it was a really well balanced meal because the chicken and rice both had strong flavors and the broth and salad were lighter and cleansed your palette. It was a decent amount too! They give you a knife to help cut the chicken, but it was easier with my hands (though a bit messy). I ended up staying until closing with my friend and I accidentally left my purse! The staff inside were so kind and we came back 15 minutes after they closed and they ran out to give it back to me. The service overall was very attentive which I appreciated. read more
A place with as much as hype as this is usually disappointing, I am genuinely surprised by how delicious the food was here. Their menu is pretty straight forward with their main offering being garlic chicken with your choice of rice, noodle soup, or dry noodles. They also offer crafted alcoholic drinks and Vietnamese style waffles. The portions were generously sized and the entire meal felt very balanced, much like a Vietnamese home cooked meal. The chicken had a great umami flavor and was sticky and sweet in the best way possible. I opted into the noodle soup and while it was fine, I took a bite out of my friend's dry noodles and it was so much better. The noodles were drenched in some sort of Maggi pineapple sauce concoction that left me wanting more. The chrysanthemum salad was very fresh and offered many different textures, it was honestly one of the best parts of the meal. While we had an amazing meal, the service was incredibly slow. It took almost 20 minutes to get our food when the restaurant was half empty and it took awhile for the server to get to us when we needed them. Dining here was very nostalgic for me as I used to come here when it was Pho Bac. They've done a great job renovating and updating the interior while maintaining the core roots of what used to occupy this space. read more

The Boat is in a part of Seattle I have never been before but I heard a lot of great reviews from it from tiktok so I ventured out with my friends. Thank goodness I did. The chicken was heaven. It was crispy and juicy and flavorful. The crunchyinness of the garlic exterior blew my mind. The noodles paired with the broth warmed my belly and the fried egg and garlic reminded me of Indo Mie. And another stand out from the dish was actually the pickled carrots!! They tasted so good i wish i had more. We also ordered the pandan and banana waffle and It had the perfect texture of crunch and airiness. The flavors were all there. One thing that left me disappointed was the pandan iced tea, though I did start liking it more after a couple of sips. I just felt like it had too subtle of pandan flavoring. As for The Boat itself... it's a cool boat in a parking lot in the middle of the city. We ate in like the outside patio area (with covering) so can't speak much of the interior. However, eating outside and listening to Vietnamese bangers was delightful. Will say tho that a bird did perch next to us during our time there but he was chill. As for the service, thank you to our lovely waitress who let us switch from the bar-type seating to the traditional sit down when another party left shortly after our food arrived. She cleaned it up super quickly and was really accommodating. Anyway highly recommend!!! read more
Known for the garlic chicken, this place has a limited menu consists of grilled chicken with rice or noodles (dry or soup) and waffles (pandan or banana). I liked the marinate for the chicken, but some parts of the chicken were dry. I expected better quality from the chicken since it's the signature and only protein offered. The pink, boat shaped building is easy to spot. Tip: parking is limited as it is shared with Pho Bac. read more
I was showing my dad around Seattle, and we spent our last day partially in the international district. After stopping at Saigon Deli, we walked past The Deli, and I mentioned to him that this was a very well known place, though I had never been because I don't really like eating meat off the bone. Given that The Boat is known for their half chicken and only really offers variance in their dishes when it comes to the sides, it's never been a place I wanted to try. However, he perked up at the prospect of going to a place that is so good at what they do that they only offer one dish. So we came back that evening for dinner. We weren't super hungry, so we decided to split a chicken rice, and ordered seasoned noodles on the side, which ended up being the perfect amount for us. I thoroughly enjoyed the rice, which was perfectly cooked and seasoned, but my favorite part of the meal was the chrysanthemum salad. My dad thoroughly enjoyed the noodles and chicken, and he still raves about it to this day. He says it was his favorite meal during his Seattle visit. Though it seems basic, The Boat offers a solid, hearty, well-seasoned meal. It's definitely a must-visit in ID. read more

Sooooo good! The chicken was super crispy and flavorful. The noodle soup pairs nicely the chicken. I also really enjoyed the salad! Friendly service and cool place. read more
I have visited "The Boat" twice now. The second time I wanted to bring my family to try the waffles. It's a small place in the parking lot of Pho Bac, run by the same family but different menu items. "The Boat" specializes in only a couple items. The main attraction is the crispy garlic chicken and rice. Then you have a choice of a side. I have tried the chicken broth, dry noodles and chrysanthemum salad. All are delicious. IMO: the chicken was not the star. It was moist and juicy but I think it lacked as much flavor as people had hyped it up to have. They have 2 types of flavored rice flour waffles served with a salty coconut cream foam. I absolutely LOVE the sides and the waffles and will come back for that but will skip the chicken and rice. Be prepared to wait though as it is becoming a pretty popular wait. read more

This place is soo good! They have 3 things on their menu and everything is similar. I like how they have their specialty and everything revolves around their specialty dish. I got the dry noodles. Despite the name the dry noodle was very saucey and packed with flavor. The chicken broth compliments every so well. The space is a bit small but cozy. Interior looks great. Would definitely come back again! read more

Went here for dinner on Wednesday at 5pm, got seated right away. It got more crowded as we were leaving at 6:45pm. The restaurant had cute modern/eclectic decor. We ordered all the dishes expect for the waffles. The chicken was so good! Very flavorful and had braised and crispy bits. The chicken dishes with the noodles were better than the ones with rice. The rice was a little overcooked but it was still good with the chicken and the sauce. The yellow tree cocktail was also pretty good, very refreshing drink. It got very busy by the time we left but luckily they have a self pay station in the front so you can pay without them needing to bring the check to the table. I would come back to have the chicken again and try one of the pancakes! read more
Very cute, small, and unique spot in Little Saigon. There's only a few tables but it can quickly fill up. We got the cơm gà mắm tỏi chicken garlic rice and the mì trộn dry noodles. Servings were plentiful and the chicken was super tender, almost fall off the bone. It was a pretty bony chicken though, and I was hoping that the skin would be crispy but it wasn't. I liked the fish sauce sauce, and not too salty like I've had at other places. I thought the dry noodles had way more flavor than the rice and would opt for the noodles instead next time. I wish they put a little more of the mỡ hành green onion oil on top of the rice. The salad was refreshing and complimented the fried chicken well. My boyfriend ordered the cây vàng yellow tree cocktail. Something about the flavors weren't amazing to me, but I did think it had a strong sugar cane juice flavor. I'd be interested in trying the pandan tea or get a coffee cocktail next time. Both chicken plates were $18. Cocktail was $14. They include tax in the price so it came out to be $50. I appreciate that tax is included in the price. read more
After my friends and I browsed the menu, we realized they only serve chicken dishes. One of my friends remarked, "Wow, they must be really confident in their chicken." And they were right--because the chicken here is fantastic! The menu offers chicken served with your choice of rice, noodles, or noodle soup. I chose the rice, while my friend opted for the egg noodles. The rice, cooked in chicken broth, had an amazing texture and flavor. My friend's egg noodles came in a generous portion as well. Speaking of portions, they're always big! I often end up packing leftovers to take home. The restaurant has a cozy, family-style atmosphere, making it a great spot to enjoy a meal with friends. I'll definitely be back with an even larger group next time! Let me know if you'd like to tweak it further! read more

I was treated to a belated birthday lunch at The Boat back on 6/11/23. The College Friend and I arrived very early and managed to get a parking spot in the shared lot, albeit it was very tight. It was a pleasant Sunday late morning - blue skies, mild, with a brisk breeze. Staff inside looked rather focused and serious as they each took turns having staff meals prior to opening for the business day. We were the first ones in the door, seated at a two top, handed menus, and water. Like the restaurant staff, the menu was very focused. We both ordered the signature Garlic Chicken Rice ($18 each). Passed on the noodles or any of the featured waffles. The College Friend opted for a Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk. Seemed a bit small and mostly ice for the price. I decided to stay with water. I am loyal to my Viet phin style coffees from Lotus Pond and Voi Ca Phe. Service was very efficient and we received our orders shortly thereafter. The garlic chicken served is actually more of the size of half a Cornish game hen (not chicken), rice, and broth. Unlike others, I found this to be a bit underwhelming despite the various savory components. My College Friend also concurred. I guess my preference is towards the poached, garlic/ginger infused Hainanese chicken rice featured with Singaporean, Thai, Chinese, and Malaysian cuisine. However, the big standout was the accompanying generous chrysanthemum salad! Fresh, complex, flavorful - that itself was a five! But this was not enough to offset the rest of the meal and uneven wait service. First person was not really enthusiastic, sent off vibes not wanting to be there. Second person was the polar opposite, upbeat and engaging. I am grateful to have the opportunity to try a popular spot in Little Saigon. Definite pro tips - plan ahead to deal with parking and crowds. read more
The Garlic Chicken is OUTSTANDING!! Crispy on the outside, super moist on the inside. No fat under the skin and not too oily either. I can taste the msg on the soup. The rice is nice. Half + Half waffle Pandan/Pinapple It is light crispy, airy light waffle and light mochi chewy texture with light sweetness of pandan and pinapple. It has some pieces of pinapple inside the waffle. The sauce is not sweet, light and slight salty because it's coconut cream. Share Parking area between the Boat and Pho Bach restaurants. I will definitely come back again!! read more
Finally got the chance to try out this place. The boat brings back so much childhood memories. My parents used to take us here when we were young for pho. Still shaped the same but the inside has a nice refresh. We ordered the garlic fried chicken dish. There's few items on the menu, either the rice or the noodle. My type of restaurant since the menu is limited, you know they will perfect it so can't go wrong with either option. The chicken was filled with fried garlic with this nice fish sauce, sweet glazed. It also comes with a side of soup and pickled veggies, the tan o/tong ho is a nice addition to this dish. The service was spectacular, all the staff was really nice. We ordered the food to-go and it was quick and still hot by the time we got home. I would totally recommend to try this place out--at least once. It's different than what's currently out there. read more

This was the highlight meal of the day for my family and me. The Boat is literally in the shape of a boat but is actually a small restaurant with tons of good food. I appreciated their smaller menu (three entree options). We got the com ga (chicken rice) and mi tron (dry noodles). Each dish was paired with a side of chicken broth soup and crispy garlic fried chicken. The chicken broth was simple but very delicious--soup paired with onion and scallions. Despite having a crispy exterior, the chicken remained juicy and soft. It was topped with crispy garlic bits that added a burst of flavor with every bite. By the end of the meal, no chicken pieces were left over because it was just too delicious. The chicken rice was so good that I wish we had gotten two of those dishes instead of the dry noodles. While the dry noodles were not bad, they had a bit too much sauce for my and my family's liking. I think it would have been much more enjoyable if the sauce was on the side for us to add in on our own since the noodles, quail eggs, etc., in that dish were good. We also got the bánh kẹp, which is essentially just a Vietnamese waffle. We got two flavors: pandan and strawberry. The fluffy yet crispy waffles were paired with a delicious egg cream. The smell of the waffles being made is something I think I will remember for a long time. Overall, these have to be the best bánh kẹp I have had in a long time. If I ever find myself in Seattle again, I will definitely return. I want to try the third menu item - which I already know will be good since it likely uses the same chicken broth we were served with the two entrees we ordered. I highly recommend anyone in the area stop by. You get a lot of bang for your buck, and the service was great. Note that when I passed by around 11:30 a.m.- 12 p.m., the restaurant was packed. However, by the time we came around 2:15 p.m., there was no wait. Regardless, the food is worth any wait. I also ordered the pandan iced tea. I enjoyed this tea, however, I think the flavor could be too overwhelming to some if drank too fast. read more

From the sound of the menu - The Boat has popped up recently as an interesting looking restaurant on my to-try list with various delicious looking dishes and entrees. We decided to swing by the restaurant on a Friday around 6pm and were seated promptly. The restaurant itself is a big pink boat! It is located at a street side intersection, so the environment is pretty busy. Inside the restaurant there is a bar area and from the bar area to the tip of the boat, there are chairs and tables lining the sides. This is definitely one of the more unique restaurant ambiances I've been to as it sort of gives a diner feel, yet they serve delicious garlic chicken instead of burgers. Service is fast (though we went before the big dinner rush) as after we ordered, we received our food within 10 minutes. I tried the Com ga mam toi ($18), which came with garlic chicken, rice, salad, and a soup. The chicken was flavorful, as there was literally garlic covering the entire chicken as you can see in the picture. The chicken underneath was succulent and the skin was crispy. They also give you a side of sauce, which had a more Vietnamese sweet dipping sauce with a hint of fish sauce (there was umami, but can't fully place my finger on it) flavor profile. Onto the sides - the soup was my favorite, as it is a delicious clean broth with an inviting chicken essence, I think it went well with the rice and the chicken. I guess one critique I have is that the chicken quantity is a deceptive - since it is basically half a cornish hen, it is more bone than meat - leaving me with a hoping for a slightly more substance. But that is just a personal preference of mine. I also was able to sample some of their viet waffles - they were pretty tasty and had a nice light and fluffy texture. The waffles were delicious on their own, but the cream sauce they had complemented nicely as it gave the waffles more body and texture. In the end, I spent about $21 (an entree and splitting the waffles between 3 people) for the experience. The Boat is a solid place to visit if you are looking for a unique atmosphere with a healthy full meal of delicious food. I would definitely like to revisit sometime in the future to try the other options. read more
