    This was an amazing restaurant! I came here with some friends that had been here several times before and highly recommended it. This is a cute Laotian restaurant with some interesting options that I hadn't seen before (granted I hadn't been to a Laotian restaurant before this). We ordered the Nam Khao to share and I ordered the Phad Lao. My favorite was the Nam Khao. The rice was crispy and had a nice lime flavor. The restaurant was also pretty accommodating for dietary restrictions. They were happy to replace the pork skin with tofu in the Nam Khao for my Muslim friend. The portions were also huge-I had plenty of leftovers to take home.

    Cute place with a cool name on a great street! Taurus Ox is delicious and healthy. Parking is on the street and the restaurant is popular. The service was good and the portions were quite good. I loved my lunch!

    Taurus Ox is a decorated modern Laotian eatery known for having one of the best burgers in all of Seattle! To get here, there is street parking directly in front of the restaurant and all around the area. Reservations are highly recommended here, so plan accordingly. Inside, they have a spacious setup with a lot of seating. Wifey and I stopped by for dinner with our homies and got a spread consisting of the Chicken Wings, Lao Sausage, Lao Burger, and the Yellow Gaeng. Everything that we had was great and all of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. Book your next reservation here and you will not regret it!

    Everything here was SO good!! I was hesitant at first to come here since I've grown up eating khmer food and thought it would just be okay compared to what I've had or too similar. I wish I came sooner. It was like my cultural food, but elevated. Nam khao was the big hit, I love the texture and we fought over who could get the leftovers for this. Thom Khem was good, I liked the brussel hash, it wasn't as amazing as people made it out to be, the main was definitely the best with a great sauce. Wish they offered sticky rice with this an alt to the jasmine. The sausage entree was just okay to me, but still not bad. The ube roll with ice cream was perfect sweet treat after dinner. Fluffy and gooey in the middle. Definitely want to come back to try more of their food and to get more nam khao!

    Yummy food! We got the thom Khem, Chicken Laap, Lao sausage entree, mango sticky rice, and a drink. All the food was flavorful and delicious. I recommend family style with a group so you can try different things! Service was a bit slow. I feel kinda bad because our server had such a huge section by themselves and they were always talking / serving with customers, so maybe it was an off night with less staff?

    Taurus Ox has been on my list for quite some time. It's a bit out of the way being tucked on the outskirts of Cap Hill but I highly recommend Ox Burger, their spinoff store for the popular lao burger which is in a more convenient location closer to the heart of Cap Hill. I think what sets Taurus Ox apart is the ambiance and service. We were wonderfully greeted and staff took the time to explain the menu while offering recommendations based on our preferences. Lao Sausage Entree - tasty, fatty pork sausage with a mix of seasonings, spices, and aromatics. Quite a few flavors going on including spiciness, saltiness, and savoriness. The rest of the dish is simple with the rice and vegetables, but those clean ingredients balance out the fatty pork. Portion and as a result, value, is a bit underwhleming though. Phad Lao - love my pad thai as a comforting dish. While tasty, the dish isn't anything spectacular as it's very similar to other stir fried noodle dishes. Solid portion though, great for sharing in groups to help supplement other dishes. Lao Burger - this has been and likely will always be the star of the show. Everyone recommends the burger and I can see why. They offered to cut our burger into three for us which was kind. The bun is soft and slightly sweet, like the Hawaiian rolls. Inside are two smashed, juicy, tender patties accompanied by a plethora of contrasting flavors that enhance one another. The fatty pork belly, sharp milky cheese, pickled vegetables, and creamy, spicy, yet sweet mayo blend make up for an explosion of flavors.

    Been wanting to try the Lao Burger forever. And finally, we were going to a show in Seattle, so I asked my bf to take us here for dinner before the show. We got here at 7pm on a Wednesday night, and they were pretty busy. The bar was open for seating, but we decided to wait about 15 min for a table. I ordered the Lao Burger to share with my bf, and I also had to try the Nam Khao. My bf ordered two orders of the Chicken Wings as his entrée with a side of rice. I also ordered the Tamarita, and he ordered the Ox Mule. Everything was delicious. We really enjoyed the Lao Burger. We liked it so much, we ordered another to go. The Nam Khao was good, but I should've asked for more lime and ordered a side of chili oil. I thought the chicken wings were a bit salty, but probably better if I ate it with more rice. Service was good and friendly. Would love to come back for the Lao Burger, or maybe check out Ox Burger.

    Yes, you need to try the Lao burger!! It's on multiple top lists for a reason! Everything was so flavorful!! Meat seasoned so well, crisp edges, cheese and sauce that just make everything melt in your mouth. Absolutely scrumptious!! The Nam Khao was yummy too! It has such a unique mix of flavors; crunchy rice, tangy, savory pork skin, crunchy peanuts, and a fresh crisp of lettuce! Just so good!!! I just wish they gave us bigger pieces of lettuce. The pieces were small so it made it difficult to make a wrap. The place is tastefully decorated with Laos culture, we enjoyed sitting in the back booths, although it was a bit darker than the front. Service was good and had a great experience. We will be coming back for sure, as I am still thinking of that burger!

    Taurus Ox serves up decent portions and bold spices, though service was lacking and prices edged high for the vibe. In terms of the food, the Lao burger smashed patties were relatively on the saltier side, but what's worth mentioning is the bright herbs and pickles that kept each bite from feeling one-note. Phad Lao brought a sweet-savory noodle profile that rounded out the table nicely. The Khao Piak Sen was comforting with chewy rice noodles in a thick, soothing broth, however the broth lacked depth (the Chinese donut was crispy, yet doughy). What's been consistent for the past few times I have been here are the lao sausages (though they're not pictured). Those 8 oz sausages with the jeow bong or the jeow som sure hits the spot! Where the experience fell short was service. After being seated, our party was never really checked on; had to flag servers down and make prolonged eye contact just to get our order in, there wasn't a quick "how is everything?" even as the room stayed relatively manageable but they were more than happy to hand our table the check, which made the meal feel more transactional than it needed to be.

    We got the lao burger, Nam kao and a side of their sausage. Lao burger -- was sooo good. It had a thin patty with crispy edges from it being smashed. There was cured pork belly which gave it that "bacon" aspect of a burger. This was a thicker cut of "bacon" but it went well with the beef. Think ham? The pickled red onions on the burger were refreshing and it cut the greasiness of the burger. Sauce was there but never overpowered, it added to all the flavors of the protein. Highly recommend and would come back for this. Nam khao -- surprisingly very addicting. All of the flavors went well together. At first I thought there wasn't much flavor but you just have to mix everything and give it a squeeze of lime. All of the components went well together. Get a little bit of the meats, the peanuts, the chilis, the crispy rice and wrap it up. The perfect bite. It's so easy and refreshing to eat that you want to keep on eating. I love the crispy aspect of this. Sausage -- so flavorful. You can really taste the lemongrass but you can get a hint of everything. I would say the sauce is a little bit salty but I just didn't dip much. It had a nice chew but it's not like a crunchy sausage. I liked eating it with a side of the lettuce. Service overall was great. We got checked on a few times. Server was nice and recommended us some dishes since we were indecisive. We didn't catch them during a busy period so we didn't have to wait. We went evening time during the weekday. Ambiance was nice but I think the chairs weren't that comfortable after sitting for some time. It was also cold bc the door was open. That is probably bc of the day we went. Decor is nice and very homey. It's situation in a more neighborhood area so that was the vibe. Plenty of neighborhood parking. TDLR; food was good, would come back for the burger and Nam khao if I wanted something refreshing. Seating was uncomfortable. Cold restaurant. Friendly staff. Plenty of parking. Overall, wouldn't go out of my way for it but maybe if I'm craving a burger and in the area.

    I wasn't really impressed with the food here at all. I have a lot of friends that are Lao and have been going to their parties and this isn't it. It's good but not what I'm used to. The flavors were partially there but needed some umpf. Would I come back? Probably not. The service was great but the amount of food and how expensive it was doesn't justify m coming back.

    i'd heard some really good things about this burger - so was pretty excited to try it let's start with the bun. there are a lot of places that get the bun wrong - but this isn't one of them. the inside and outside of each bun is really well charred to a point where it's not soft but still goes easily through your mouth to make each bite satisfying. the bun is also sauced really well the pork belly is fantastic - it's full of fat and flavor. I do wish it was placed above rather than below the smash patties though - because i didn't really taste it at all until i moved it to be above the smash patties speaking of the smash patties - i'm a little confused on that front. the description says two but i was only able to make out one. maybe they just fused together somehow but for me i pretty much only noticed one smashed patty - it was pretty thick, so i can't complain too much, while eating. I do think i prefer regular patties to smashed patties though - as you lose a lot of the juiciness as far as the taste of the smash patty(ies) i thought it was really good. you can tell these were grilled really well based on the smoky, flame-based flavor present throughout the meat. these were also a perfect texture for what a smashes patty should be the cheese was another hit. you know it's perfectly melted when after taking a bite of the burger your hands are essentially dripping with cheese, along with the jaew bong mayo - which itself was pretty good adding to this dish were the onions - which i could eat an entire dish just of did think the cilantro was alright - didn't quite fulfill its role as the lettuce replacement as good as i expected the biggest thing holding this burger back in my opinion was the lack of any real non-umami flavor. if there was some spice, even a little bit, that would elevate the burger to a whole another level I considered getting the chili oil to pour over the burger, but didn't feel like paying extra for that For this reason, I can't call this the 'best burger in seattle' - but it's probably the best burger i've had in a while i thought the portion size was also near perfect - maybe just a tiny bit small

    We were excited to visited Taurus Ox after eating at their burger place over on Capital Hill. We don't have too much experience with Lao cuisine and are always on the lookout for new dishes to try. Taurus Ox seemed to be the perfect next stop. This particular restaurant, located in a more residential area east of Capitol Hill, was relatively quiet for Friday lunch when we walked in. Upon opening the front door, we immediately smelled the fragrance of jasmine rice in the air, whetting our appetites. That seemed like a promising start. We were quickly led over to one of the booths towards the rear and ordered a couple of dishes: Lao Beef Jerky ($16) - This is an interesting but simple dish, consisting of thinly sliced beef jerky pieces on top of a bed of sticky rice. The jerky isn't bone dry like western jerky, but rather has some moisture and more of a tender chew. The beef is surprisingly flavorful, being very beefy and aromatic with ginger and lemongrass. They leave some of the fat on, giving a bit of contrast in mouthfeel and texture. I found the sticky rice to be a little dried out, like they had left it exposed to the air awhile, allowing a skin to form. It's not really ideal, but the interior of the sticky rice was fine. This dish comes with a side of jaew som. It's full of fishy umami, extremely fresh herbal tasting, with a light tanginess, and a slight kick at the end. (4/5) Lao Burger ($18) - This burger can be described with only several words: dry, tough, desiccated. There is something seriously wrong with the burger preparation at Taurus Ox - it's nothing like the balanced and flavorful dish served at their sister restaurant. The burgers are smashed only gently and aren't fried at high enough heat, resulting in floppy pucks without much lacy caramelization. Yet they are also somehow extremely dry inside, not to mention very salty, necessitating going through several cups of water. There's some funky cheese melted in between the two patties, which I would think would add some fat and moisture to the dish, but it's also somehow dried out and tough. The slice of pork belly on the bottom also doesn't help; it's completely overcooked, rendering it a tough salt bomb. I feel like they screwed up and forgot to add the jaew tomato, a critical piece that's really needed to moisten things up. I believe they also didn't add nearly enough of the jaew bong mayo on the bottom slice of bread, I found a certain aromatic and funky flavor, but it also didn't contribute much moisture. Unlike the crisp thicker cut taro stem in the burger at Ox Burger, it's thinly shaved here so it doesn't contribute any texture. At least there are pickled onions on top, slightly fishy and umami, to give some crunch. Overall the flavor profile in general is very good, but the dryness of the whole concoction is unforgivable. I would never order the burger at Taurus Ox again. (2/5) Thom Khem Bowl Lunch Special ($20) - I think this is a half size portion of the $28 entree Thom Khem. It includes a bed of jasmine rice, fragrant and perfectly cooked; a bit of a soft bite giving great mouthfeel. There's half an egg on top, hardboiled and marinated well, then cut in half and pan fried, giving a fried skin (think tiger egg). They serve the dish with some mustard greens. Based on the presentation and serving temperature (cold), I believe they are blanched, iced, then hand wrung before being placed in the bowl. The leaves aren't too bitter for being mustard greens. Some chopped fresno peppers give a bit of a kick. Then we arrive at the star of the dish: the pork belly. Unlike some other places around Seattle that served "pork belly" but actually use cheaper cuts of pork shoulder, Taurus Ox uses full fat belly, albeit skinless. The pieces are cooked until fall apart tender and are braised in a liquid that almost becomes gravy-like in consistency, soaking into and flavoring the rice. It's aromatic, full of umami and saltiness, blending perfectly with the rice. It's a flavorbomb and quite delicious. (4/5) I rarely comment on service, but I feel like Taurus Ox has actively poor service, not to mention that they take noticeable cost cutting measures, giving a poor experience overall. Firstly, they charge high prices for relatively small portions. That's fine if they're going for more mid-to-upscale customers. But then they take shortcuts by having customers pick their own silverware and napkins, similar to a counter service place. The waiters take a completely lackadaisical attitude, sauntering slowly between tables, but mostly standing around not doing anything. For this kind of establishment, and especially due to the fact that the restaurant was only a quarter full or so, I should not need to ask for water refills. I should not have to sit around for fifteen minutes waiting for the check. With how much I enjoyed the burger over at Ox Burger, I can't help but to be disappointed about Taurus Ox. Bathrooms - Two unisex rooms.

Bummer, but totally understand. The menus are acrylic boards at the ordering counter, there were two for the two specials and they were left up when we went to order. The employee told me that unfortunately they have run out of the other special (not the flight). She turned around to do something else for a bit, came back, so I ordered the flight and she said they don't have that either. LOL okay!! No worries! I asked if any of the udon can be made cold? She asked the head chef. He yells back that he has no time for this. Like a good one minute lecture, yelling at the staff. So sorry I made him yell at this poor girl I ordered kaisen champon and my partner ordered the niku udon. We waited for a good 30 mins for our food. Fine we like each other enough to spend time with each other and can clearly see it is chaos in the kitchen. We get our food. We didn't get utensils with our food, and were told "I'll grab utensils for you, sorry about that" So we just sat there waiting for utensils. Food is good but there are hairs and a bug ‍ During our time waiting the water wasn't ever filled (it's self serve) so after our food came I asked for water three times, kept getting "I'll refill it". The chawanmushi showed up 20+ minutes after our food, basically as we were finishing. And they don't have to-go containers, which fine, but worth knowing. I've given this place real chances. Last night felt like a hygiene issue, an understaffed kitchen, and a service breakdown all stacked on top of each other. Usually we go during lunch so maybe that's my recommendation moving forward - I'm giving this place a rest from the rotation for now.

To share, we ordered the chicken curry nasi lemak, sayap ayam pedas, and kaya toast. All three dishes were phenomenal, each with its own distinct flavor. The sayap ayam pedas was a huge portion for just 2 people, but we couldn't stop eating. The combination of soy sauce and fish sauce was not overpowering at all and the chicken itself was so juicy. The chicken curry in the nasi lemak was delicious with the coconut rice. Along with the anchovies, egg, peanuts, and sambal, it was a choose-your-own-adventure kind of bite. The kaya toast was the perfectly sweet dish to balance out all the flavors. I especially loved dipping it in the poached egg for a satisfyingly runny bite. I left feeling so full, but so motivated to come back and try more dishes. Highly recommend!

Tables are mostly four tops, quite spacious at that, and surrounded by sturdy wooden chairs. I came for dinner on a Friday evening and there were a few other tables at any given time. Service was quick and our water never ran empty. We had the wontons in hot oil, topped with peanuts, I had the beef chow fun, and my dinner buddy had the pork with hot sauce noodles. The wontons are very very good, stuffed with flavorful pork and swimming in a sauce that sits in that perfect spot at the intersection of hot and sour. The peanuts and scallions add a delightful crunch. Their beef chow fun satisfies every bit of childhood nostalgia I have for this dish, with lots of wok hei, bouncy noodles, and the most tender of beef. I think my favorite beef chow fun in the city still lives at A+ Hong Kong Kitchen, but this is a close second. The portion here is also huge. I am a human vacuum and I actually brought leftovers home, which is rare for me. The pork with hot sauce noodles is seemingly a fusion of zha jiang mian and dan dan noodles. My friend really enjoyed it and actually finished the whole thing, which is saying something given that she doesn't usually eat that much. The start of the journey began with the requisite parking fiasco and issues that are perpetual in the Seattle ID...but that should never, and I mean never, stop an important mission like finding a truly delicious noodle restaurant. When we went in, it was pretty empty. We were immediately sat, and ordered. The hot jasmine tea quickly followed. Our Calamari came out quick and was delicious to the point I nearly had to fight my son for the last piece. I quickly surrendered as he does stab people...see above...he parried my fork and stabbed the last piece before quickly finishing the move. Our mains came out shortly after we finished the calamari. The 14yo ordered beef brisket noodle soup. He said it was delicious, but too spicy after he added too much chili oil. The wife scoffed at the idea that there's such a thing as too much chili oil and ate some of his soup. This was after she dug into her hot pot. I did get a chance to sample the delicate pork pieces and the flavorful rice. The slightly crispy rice at the bottom of the pot were so delicious. I had the Singapore style fried noodles. Really tasty. The noodles had so many flavors from the vegetables to the meats (shrimp, chicken meat & egg, and pork) and the sauce.
