Overall: 4 stars Walk in restaurant in Northern Seattle that specializes in Khao Soi. I love that their menu has a range of proteins to choose from, so you could really personalize the broth to your liking. Duck Khao Soi - Love this bowl of comforting coconut curry, with unapologetic spice toned down to the American spice range. The duci is cooked glisteningly well, and works as an elevated protein compared to the traditional chicken. The blend of egg noodles, crisp noodles, and abundance of herbs and spices give it that it that hearty, soulful identity. Walked into this small restaurant and was greeted by a friendly host. She helped us decide which items to choose! The flavors are out of this world! Delicious food here! We were going to share a bowl but decided to get our own. We are so glad we did because it was delicious !!
Used to have chicken and rice but now only a khao soi spot. Street parking, indoor seating only, order through a QR code at the table. Beef tenderloin was tender and the base is super flavorful and rich & duck breast was also delicious and tender. Flavors can get overwhelming after awhile and portions are on the smaller side. Food came out quickly
I wish I could give this place 6 stars because it is really that good! I normally do not drink the broth of Khao Soi. I got the duck, and it was so tender and juicy. We also tried the dip, which was so refreshing and a great palate cleanser. Not to mention, the food comes out surprisingly fast despite how busy they are! So you can tell they are a very efficient team. Will definitely come back when I am in the area!
This place has been on my to-try list for the longest time and I finally got to go. Worth every bit of the wait. The khao soi here is my favorite I've had. And I've had it all over, NYC, LA, SF, Philly, you name it. Every single element was on point. The broth had so much depth and the duck was cooked perfectly, still juicy with zero gaminess. For those who've had the duck at Gion Duck Noodles in Kyoto (ik I'm comparing two completely separate cuisines), the execution of this duck is better. I got the braised beef on the side and holy shit. Most spots fail braised beef in one of two ways: overcook it and it's dry, or braise it so long that it falls apart but loses all its succulence. This one threaded the needle perfectly. Still had a bite to it while being completely succulent. One of the best I've had. The waiter suggested the Thai sausage and I'm so glad I listened. Really nice snap to it and packed a serious punch. Thai sausage is not easy to come by and I order it every chance I get. This is the version I'll be benchmarking against. Only thing I'm bummed about is missing the Hainanese chicken. It's one of my favorite dishes and I really hope they bring it back. Service was super friendly and the ambiance was really nice. Can't wait to get back to Seattle because this is absolutely on the list again!
Best khao soi I've had!! Ive only been here twice and enjoyed both options ive gotten, the duck and beef tenderloin. Finished everything to the last drop! I wish the portion size was bigger though. The sua de (curry sausage) was delicious as well!! I want to try the oxtail next time! Service was quick and easy! Just need to order online through the qr code. Lunch time wasn't too busy on a weekday but usually busier during the nights.
This place was pretty good, I give it a 3.5 star overall. A good place to go if you like Khao Soi because that is their main entree. I was slightly disappointed because I thought they had Hainan Chicken and rice here. But overall it's good! Food wise: The flavor was good, presentation looks fine. I wish they put a little more meat in the bowl though. I felt like the protein portion is a bit small for the price. We got the American Wagyu and Beef Tenderloin Khao Soi and the Sai Ua Curry Sausage. Which everything was flavorful! Service wise: The staff was nice but you order yourself through your phone and they bring it out. You pay through your phone too, so there isn't too much service. Ambiance wise: The restaurant is on the smaller side, not the best place for big parties. But it looked clean and pretty good vibe overall. It's not a bad place to stop by and try!
I love noodles and was super excited that this place specialized in one dish... Khao Soi. Came early dinnertime on a Wednesday. Zero wait with lots of empty tables. Sat quickly and ordered. Food was served fast. The portion size seemed decent. A good amount of duck which was tender and juicy. The curry was flavorful, creamy and thankfully not spicy. I was disappointed in the noodles. The crispy noodles were great but the boiled noodles were alittle soft, no bite/chewy. The broth also wasn't that hot. The meal was good but there are easy improvements to be made to make it great.
Been wanting to go to Ginger & Scallion for forever and just now got the chance to go. Ginger & Scallion is a restaurant that specializes in one dish, before they only had Khao Mun Gai (Hainanese Chicken). Now they have Khao Soi, which is a Northern Thai Curry Egg Noodle Dish. Now, what makes them so special? The variety of meat you can eat with your Khao Soi. I came with my boyfriend about an hour into the opening at 6 PM and there was one table left by the window. We didn't prefer to be by the door so we kindly asked the employee that If there was another table available we'd like to be moved. Luckily, a table opened up right away! We ordered on our phones, I got the Duck Khao Soi, while my boyfriend got the lamb chop. The Khao Soi was portioned perfectly and the Duck was so soft and delectable. We both were able to almost finish our bowls on a with a full stomach. The Khao Soi really is the best. The creaminess of the coconut milk is not too strong and still light enough for it not to be overpowering. I'm glad Ginger & Scallion is highlighting a dish that is not really popularized when you think about Thai dishes.
I came here with a friend and our toddlers. They only have types of khao soi, but the food was delicious. I got the ox tail, and my friend got a beef. She really enjoyed hers as well. I also ordered a beef tenderloin khao soi and passionfruit pie to go. Unfortunately, they forgot to give us the passionfruit pie. So I reached home after having paid for it with no dessert. Feel kind of bad about that. Otherwise it was a great experience.
I never got a chance to try this spot when it was hainese chicken rice, but really wanted to for their khao soi. When we came around 6pm on a Friday there was already a huge crowd and we ended up waiting around 30 minutes before getting seated. They only serve khao soi, but have a ton of different protein options. I opted for the duck, which is why this review is 5 stars instead of 4. While I think the noodles and soup were nothing too spectacular, the duck itself was so so good. It was tender, juicy, and had the right amount of fat on it for the perfect bite. I rarely have duck cooked that well, and it's such a reasonable price for it too! Be prepared to wait if you come at a busy time, but highly recommend trying the duck!
A spot that focuses only on khao soi?! Yes please! You know when a restaurant only offers one dish, it's going to be good! This spot used to be a hainan chicken place but they've shifted to serving khao soi. They have both table and bar seating in the restaurant. I love that they offer a variety of different protein options that you can get on your khao soi like beef tenderloin, oxtail, goat, lamb, duck, and tofu. We got the Duck Breast Khao Soi. The duck breast is perfectly seared, and it comes with egg noodles in their signature Khao Soi curry broth. The flavor of the broth has so much depth! Really delicious! The khao soi also has pickled mustard greens, scallion, cilantro, fresh and fried shallots, crispy egg noodles, and served with a wedge of lime. We also got the Oxtail Khao Soi. The curry braised oxtail was so incredibly tender! It truly falls right off the bone. They also have a Sai Ua Curry Sausage that's very popular! It's a spicy pork sausage that is aromatic, herbaceous, and very tasty! Staff is great! Definitely a gem in Seattle!
If a place only does one dish, you know it's going to be good. Never had khao soi before but now I'm a big fan. I had the duck and it was nice and tender! Not dry at all, plus it was nicely seared. Make sure to get here early or expect to wait. The restaurant is really small and the seats are close to each other, but I didn't mind. It reminds me that we're all here for the food.
The place doesn't take reservations to getting there early is key, I was with a party of 4 plus a kid and we were seated right away, the place is modest but cute and clean. The staff was beyond friendly from beginning to end which is always a HUGE plus in my book. They have a good selection of beer, and for the non-drinkers, they have a few options, not a whole lot but not a deal breaker, they do start you up with water as you decide on what to get , they have a giant wall size menu as well as a QR code on the table which you can directly order from, super convenient. OH MY GOSH.. the food was SOOOOOO GOOD!! the noodles were made to perfection, the meat was just right and the FLAVOR!! Super super tasty, the serving is generous and yes it's pricey but rightfully so. I couldn't stop smiling while I ate, it was that good!! Everyone on my table enjoyed their dish, lots of diff spices, all these flavors that were made to perfection, I was already so full but couldn't stop eating lol. We had a kid with us and we were able to order him some plain noodles and he enjoyed them a lot too! So if you're looking for great tasty food in the area, whether you're with a group or chilling solo, this is a MUST, you'd have it once and want to come back for more! read more
Being disappointed at the steak frites place, I decided to give this place a chance hoping for redemption. Same owners, different concepts. This place was very quiet and not many people were there. We were the only customer for most of our meal there. The person helping us was pretty direct which I like. You order on the QR code and pay as well. We got the duck Khao soi. Omg it was delicious. I love how tender and juicy the duck was. The crispy noodles on top with the smooth soft noodles and the flavor of the broth was all well balanced. I love everything about this dish. If I wasn't too full, I would have ordered the appetizers as it looks interesting. Definitely would come back and recommend..since I only tried one dish, I would like to come back to try other things before I can give it a 5 star read more
ordered the duck khao sao and the star of the dish was definitely the duck!! wow it was so tender and juicy, and they had so much of it!! typically a lot of places don't add a lot of meat, but they added more than enough :)) the crispy noodles were a great addition and i loved all the greens in it. i think the broth was good, super creamy, but i wish it was a little stronger. you can spice it to how you like, which is nice, but i felt like the chili oil wasn't that spicy overall, i really liked the bowl and thought the duck was amazing yummy rating: 8.5/10 read more

This was the best flavored khao soi I've ever had!! The curry was on the thicker side which I definitely prefer. I liked that I could control the spice with the chili oil on the side. It was really cute and cozy inside, and overall pretty small. My friends and I had to wait about 20 minutes, but once we put in our order, the food came out so fast! I got the A5 wagyu khao soi. I wasn't that impressed by the meat quality which is why I am knocking off one star. The meat was actually really chewy, and for the price that I was paying for the A5, I was expecting it to melt in my mouth. My friends didn't have this problem so I'm hoping it was just a one-off, but aside from that the dish was so good! read more
A very cute restaurant! We went at noon on Sunday, no wait & were able to sit wherever! The servers were quick & brought out water & food quickly. We got the Sai Ua Curry Sausage ($15) and the Kagoshima A5 Wagyu Kaburi Steak Khao Soi ($40). Both items were good & decent portions. Personalllyyyy... I thought the curry broth flavor was lacking... just a bit less flavorful than other places? But def try this place at least once yourself!! :) read more

really yummy cozy meal! came for a late lunchy with some friends and we were able to snag a table right away. they only have khao soi now but i guess when u only have one thing on the menu, u do it well!!! we ordered the braised beef khao soi, and it was a flavor bomb! so delicious, so spicy but not like hot spicy like spice spicy. i actually chewed on a star anise so u kno its really in there. loved all the toppings, the cwispy noodles and mustard on top were so delicious and added a good crunch to the soup and noodles. noodles were al dente but some stuck together making it a little tricky to eat. portions are actually quite generous, i was hungry and still had about 1/2 left to take home! also you scan a qr code to order, so its very casual. food came out almost instantly, which was nice. the staff was very friendly too. read more
I've had this place on my list to try and today was the day. There was a wait when we got there at 12:30 PM on a Saturday and people were standing outside. You have to go inside to put your name on their waitlist. The restaurant is very small. The wait wasn't too bad. They only serve one dish here. It's a curry based broth with noodles, crispy noodles, crispy shallots and pickled mustard greens. What you get to choose is the meat. My daughter ordered the beef tenderloin and I ordered the oxtail. Order and pay on your phone using the QR code taped on the top of the table. The first bite was fantastic: flavorful, tenderloin was cooked well, oxtail was amazing with the meat just falling off the bone. Crispy noodles and shallots created lots of great texture. But Beware! The chopsticks are very thin and "weak" so if you aren't careful, when trying to pick up the noodles, broth will splash everywhere. I grew up using chopsticks so I have had some 50+ years of experience. It was good and I'm glad I tried it. Will I be back? I'm not sure... The first several bites were great but I found this broth heavy mid-way through the meal. Let's just say: lots of cream and very little vegetables. The Khao Soi became very monotonous and one-dimensional. The flavor was overwhelming because there wasn't any texture. All of the crispy elements had become soggy. My daughter suggested that the dish needed bok choy and I wholeheartedly agreed. Bok choy that adds a bit of crunch (texture) throughout the entire consumption of this dish and breaks up the heaviness of the broth with some freshness. I definitely think it's worth visiting and giving it a try if you've never been. I'm just not sure I would visit again. read more

The place prioritized our party of 9 and were super accommodating, the food was good even if I asked if it was spicy so they said their default is mild spicy(for someone with no tolerance that would be "very " spicy in my vocabulary ). But they provided me more coconut milk to add to the soup so it would at least be manageable. The staff and owner were super hospitable and truly attentive to our needs. The Thai ice tea was not as sweet though i mean at least from what other Thai ice tea i had before. The food though they only really serve khao soi and the meat was super tender definitely couldn't complain on the meat or the soup. Because it was very flavorful. The place is pretty small but definitely very accommodating if needed. We were celebrating a birthday and they were kind enough to provide additional plates and utensils at no extra charge. We gave our leftover cake to them because no one else was going to eat it anyway. Parking is mostly street only. read more
Finally made it to Ginger & Scallion to see if the hype was real. We got there around 7 PM on a Saturday and there were like 3 groups ahead of us. The wait wasn't bad though, maybe 20 minutes max. We grabbed the duck breast khao soi and the wagyu flank steak khao soi. Honestly both were incredible. The broth is super rich and the meat was tender in both bowls. It feels like one of those places where you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Definitely worth the hype! read more

Came here around 2pm and it was still pretty packed with people waiting outside. Luckily I got seated pretty quickly with my party of 2. I would recommend only going with 4 ppl max because the space isn't that big. It's a pretty casual place with ordering from the QR code on the table. It's all paid for when you order. Service is pretty fast as well. The food is simple - they've got one main dish with a slight variation. Right now is kao soi, which I love and with different toppings. They sous vide their meat which makes sense because both duck and beef were extremely soft. Parking is easy street parking. I had no trouble finding a spot. Can't wait to see what dish they'll cook up next. read more
First time visiting Ginger & Scallion, and this restaurant has been on my list to try for a long time! I was super ecstatic to try their Khao Soi specifically, and it lives up to the good reviews! What I ordered: {Beef Braised Khao Soi}: - Flavor profile of the broth/curry was sooo nice and aromatic! The beef was also braised extremely well and it was so tender. All the ingredients complimented the dish very well and I have no complaints! Though I do wish that the portions were a little bigger. Would definitely return for this dish solely. {Sai Ua Curry Sausage}: - The dish was extremely underwhelming and the price for it was really steep. The dish comes with only one sausage link, purple cabbage, cilantro, and ginger. Sausage wasn't necessarily anything special. Would pass on it next time. {Thai Tea}: - The drink was unfortunately a let down. I love thai tea but this one was a little watered down and the thai tea flavor profile wasn't prominent. I'd recommend passing on this as well. Overall, the ambiance of the store is really cute and quaint! I went at opening so it wasn't difficult being seated but I can envision it being difficult to grab a seat during busy hours. Service could be improved on. We pretty much got our food and we weren't checked up on throughout our time dining. I'd consider returning for their Khao Soi however! Definitely worth the try. read more

Like many places in Seattle, I think sometimes this place is a victim of it's own success. I've tried to go a few times but hadn't been able to due to crowds. Definitely have a back up plan or bring a snack if you're hungry! Finally I got in for a weekday lunch. It's an unassuming space, a little cramped--I liked sitting at the bar best. Staff is perfectly friendly but not overly involved which suits me fine. Our food took around 20 minutes but was worth the wait! My tofu Khao Soi was to die for (and was vegan and gluten free!!), seriously as good as the many bowls I ate in Chiang Mai! So creamy and comforting. I'll definitely be back if I can get in!! read more

Finally got to try Ginger & Scallion after it being on my list for a long time. So happy that I went! We were seated at the bar, which is usually not my preference for seating in a restaurant, but I enjoyed being able to see the cooking process. My boyfriend and I both got the duck khao soi. The duck is sous vide and then they torch it after to give the skin a slight smoky flavor. They give you a lot of duck pieces!! The duck is very soft and cooked well. The broth was a little bit salty when I initially tried it, so I do recommend using the lime that they provide to help lessen the saltiness. Otherwise, the broth was very creamy and full of flavor. You can taste the coconut and the curry flavors blend together and it wasn't too heavy nor spicy. I just wish there was more crispy egg noodle and that it wasn't broken up into very tiny pieces. Even though the portion of the dish was good for me (I have a smaller stomach), I can see people wanting more noodles. They could have given more broth as well, as all of the noodles and fried shallots absorbed a ton of the liquid. But overall a very good khao soi that just left me wanting more. The restaurant is not that big. It is mainly made for groups of 2-4 people. The service in the restaurant isn't very great (at least for us who have T-Mobile), so my boyfriend had to step towards the outside for our order to go through. Interested to see if they are going to keep doing khao soi or focus on a new dish? I'm hoping that they'll do khao soi for longer since it is delicious and it's rare to see a place specialize in it! read more
Great place as usual though still just as crowded and packed as time goes on even after my last review. My group of 4 did get seated very fast since we came at almost exactly 5pm before anyone else showed up. This review is after the establishment removed their khao man gai from the menu and instead became a khao soi-exclusive place, save for some appetizers and drinks. Their menu is now on a QR code and you have to order through there for your food to come to you. For the food: - I got the braised beef khao soi curry broth. It's savory, creamy, awesome and has a better spicy kick with some chili oil. The fried shallots add an extra crunch throughout the dish, and egg noodles are al dente and easy to chew. I ate this one really fast but was overall extremely satisfied. - One of my friends got their seared duck kaho soi. He said the broth overtakes the duck meat taste; otherwise the amount of spice was superb and he didn't need to add chili oil. - For one of my friends who is vegan, she was pleasantly surprised; her tofu kao soi broth was actually very flavorful when normally most broths in other vegetarian soups are bland. She didn't need any other condiments; the whole dish was already perfect and flavorful! - We all then split a passion fruit pie which was is small but relatively sweet. The passion fruit tart was already sweet on its own though the graham crackers somehow balance everything despite also being sweet. Even after several years this place still hits with big crowds! You owe it to yourself to come here at least once, whether you've had their khao mai gai the first time or not! They don't fail when it comes to that or their khao soi dishes. read more
I last came here when it was a khao man gai (chicken and rice) concept - now it's focused on khao soi. Inside is pretty much the same - super cozy, not a ton of tables and not much of a waiting area, but if it's dinner, the Tin Hat is next door and a super fun bar. Our group of 3 had tofu, duck and braised beef. I had the beef and it was a touch on the salty side for me, but to be expected. Unlike other reviews, I thought the portion was perfect - quite a bit of food and my tablemates had enough to take home. Service is swift and friendly - they bring you waters and any drinks, and you can order through servers or through QR codes unique to your table. We didn't feel rushed and if it's a sunny Seattle day, there are huge windows and just a lovely almost coffeeshop type vibe. read more
If you're a fan of Khao soi noodles definitely come check this spot out! I was such a huge fan of when they did chicken and rice but they rebranded and brought us another delicious concept! I got the duck and my husband got the braised beef! Both were fantastic! Service was quick and efficient! Love that they had a high chair so my little one could join at the table. This was my second visit to Ginger & Scallion. The first time was when they served chicken and rice. They have since rebranded to focus only on khao soi, so I was really looking forward to trying it again. Unfortunately the experience was disappointing. My duck breast khao soi took a long time to come out, and when it finally arrived, the duck had a funky taste and the broth was already getting goopy. For a place that specializes in khao soi, I expected better. The Thai tea was watery too. Honestly this place was better when they served Hainan chicken. I came here on a whim one Tuesday evening and was surprised to see they rebranded! Previously they offered chicken and rice, and this time when I came in I found they now serve Thai khao soy! The new concept is great and I think I enjoyed this maybe even more than their previous dishes. They had specialty dishes which unfortunately were sold out hence led me to order the seared duck khao soi. The restaurant was busy but we didn't have to wait to get seated. Ambiance was chill with guests talking but not overly loud either. Overall a great place to come on a weekday night. Special shoutout to the staff member who notified my party of three only ordered two entrées and came by to confirm if this was accurate. Turns out the system missed my order and it didn't get processed. How awkward would it have been if only two dishes showed up and I was left watching my friends eat! read more
I'd heard soo much about Ginger & Scallion from some friends, that I had to give it a try. They serve only Khao Soi and they do a really good job at it. The place is pretty small, is family run and warm folks. They only have one vegetarian option which is the tofu cutlet. The broth and everything tasted great. It was a little low on spice for me and adding the chilli crisp, helped. But it's definitely not the best vegetarian khao soi I've had though. Pretty good, however! read more
Ginger and Scallion is a must try! This small little restaurant packs a big punch. Known for their Khao Soi Soup (northern Thai coconut curry noodle soup). We tried the American Wagyu Flank Steak and Seared Duck Khao Soi. Both meats were tender, perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. You order on your phone and pay ahead of time. The service was pleasant and attentive. They also have a wide variety of drinks and wide selection of beers. This place captures the essence of comfort and quality -- definitely a spot I'll be returning to often. read more
