So far, so good! If you like Moonlight Cafe in Seattle (which I absolutely love, and just went there to eat 2 days ago) then you will love this place. This is their sister restaurant!!! They serve both meat and vegan dishes, and have 2 separate menus. I am very appreciative of this since the other vegan restaurant near UW closed (so sad!). But this place is good - just like Moonlight Cafe. Menu items are slightly similar, but slightly different too. They serve pretty much almost the same dishes though - and the food is still delicious! I ordered their vegan bun bo hue today to be a bit adventurous on this chilly Seattle day. And I'm glad I did, as it did not disappoint. I wish it was a bit more spicy and had a bit more of that lemongrass kick I like with BBH, but nonetheless, this place is sooo good and the soup hit the spot! The BBH came with the typical rounder noodles and had a variety of proteins - lots of yummy triangle tofu, mock meat, bok choy, carrots, broccoli, and carrots. So filling! They brought out cabbage, banana leaf, bean sprouts, and jalepenos for garnish. I also had their mock mongolian beef. It was fine - tasted like the usual seitan protein. There was definitely more onions and greens than there was meat, but that's OK. it wasn't bad for $18 given the economy we are living in now. This dish was part of the lunch menu (between 11-3pm) and it came with a thai iced tea. Not bad at all. The server was very kind and helpful. Quick, efficient, and lovely. I think I slightly prefer their sister restaurant, but I would absolutely come back again when I'm in need of some good comfort vietnamese food with both meat and vegan options. PS. Just beware, the door pressure sucks and can be difficult to open when you pull the door.

I pass by Papa Kitchen often on my way to the Roosevelt light rail, and had a great first visit here last weekend. The place is very spacious with very high ceilings, large windows and lots of light. The menu is extensive and they have dishes here I haven't seen elsewhere. Tried the bamboo chicken soup which was interesting in the sense that the chicken was a chicken salad and served on the side. Loved the soup, which was a nice lighter alternative to pho and the chicken salad was also very good - fresh and very flavorful. Portions are generous. definitely will be back to try the other dishes but definitely a promising initial visit.

Stopped by here during a matcha pop up and the food tastes fresh, authentic, and clearly made with care--every dish I tried had rich, comforting flavors that hit the spot without feeling overly heavy. The portions are generous for the price, making it an easy go-to whether you're dining in or grabbing takeout. Service was friendly and efficient, and the casual, no-frills atmosphere lets the food shine.

The meat that came with BBH left untouched because it was too tough.

My girlfriend and I decided to check out Papa Kitchen on a Friday at 1:15 pm. There was only street parking so we had to walk a block and a half. The restaurant interior had high ceilings and nice decor. There were 2 occupied tables and no one at the front desk. We waited then I peaked toward the kitchen trying to get the attention of the 3 staff members who were chatting. The hostess finally appeared and told us to seat ourselves. She gave us 4 menus: regular, vegetarian, & 2 lunch. It was hard for us to share the regular menu so i walked up and asked for another one. The food options were robust. Although it was not busy, it took longer than it should before the hostess came to take our order. We got the honey garlic chicken as an appetizer, a bowl of pho, and Bun Bo Hue (my favorite). The noodle bowls came out before the appetizer. I've had many BBH at various Vietnamese restaurants so the first thing I noticed missing were blood cubes and pig feet. Instead, there were 4 chunks of beef on bones that were so tough that I couldn't even eat them using my fingers. As you can see from the pic, I fished them onto a plate untouched. The BBH broth was flavorful and other sliced meat quite tender. My friend enjoyed her pho. When the hostess asked if we needed to-go boxes, I mentioned the super tough meat so she took the plate back to the kitchen. She came back with the check and proceeded to process our payment. I asked if the kitchen had anything to say about the meat. She replied "if you want to wait, they offered to cook the meat longer so you can take it to-go, or you can come back next time and we will give you more of the other meat". Seriously? That is how you make it right? I declined the offer. If I was in the neighborhood, I might patronize Papa's Kitchen again but I would definitely will not go out of my way to do so.

Goos food but the service was slow and lacking. When we arrived, it took some time to be greeted, to be seated, to receive manu, to receive food and to receive utensils. We ordered combination phos. They forgot to bring us a plate of sprouts and basils etc. but we were unable to get attention of the servers so we ended up walking up to them to ask for it. The food was good. The soup was very flavorful. I would try the restaurant again if it's not busy for better service.

This place is amazing! They have not just vegan options but an ENTIRE VEGAN MENU. The vegan pho was the best I've ever had. I got the combo but I'd recommend just the vegan chicken pho personally because the vegan chicken was delicious. The spring rolls were good and the Thai tea was excellent (though not certain if Thai tea was 100% vegan in the powder but you can get it with coconut milk). The service was fantastic with the server giving me good recommendations and being patient with me while I was overwhelmed at having more than one choice. It's very similar in ambiance to the previous place here with big windows and cozy decor. I was so jazzed I got bahn mis to go for dinner and those were also tasty. I will def be back.

Delicious food, spacious and nice restaurant, and friendly service! My husband, baby, and I came on a weekday for lunch. Lots of seating and the interior decor was so nice! They also have high chairs for the little ones! We loved our food! We got the bun bo hue (best we've had in Seattle so far!) I exchanged the rice noodle for egg noodle. We also got the waterfall fried chicken plate lunch special so it came with a drink - Thai iced tea. So good! Everything was flavorful and portions were decent! Will definitely come back to try their other items!

Went back to papa's after another workout and once again, it did not disappoint. Their bun bo hue was one of the best I've ever had in seattle. Like it was so good, i ended up ordering take out (their combo plate) mid-meal lol. I was a lil disappointed bc their BBH didn't include that blood that I like but whatever. Helllaaaa good broth and a ton of substance otherwise. Anotha certified bangah.

    Mắm Tôm Temptation

Papa Kitchen took over Ong Lam Bistro with the same familiar layout, but a much broader Viet-inspired menu (plus vegan options). Staff were hospitable and welcoming. The Super Bowl Pho was generous with noodles and broth, tender slices of meat & rib, fresh herbs & lime on the side, though no hoisin sauce available at the table. The Mắm Tôm Temptation stood out for its fried sausage, fish cake, eggroll, blood sausage, and tofu with shrimp paste sauce. Bold and fun at first, but the pungent & salty flavor became a bit much by the end. Would recommend pairing with other sauces, preferably sweet & spicy, if available. Two dishes with tax/tip hit $72, which feels pricey. Happy Hour may be the better move. Overall, their creative dishes make this an interesting place.

Ok the kitchen has got it down, everything we've tried is so good! Attentive service. Cute restaurant decor and it's spacious. The cocktails are Viet-inspired and good. Would recommend the chicken platter, fried chicken wings, and stir fried green beans. But for authentic Viet food for anyone who's more adventurous, try the bamboo chicken noodle soup or Bun Mam.

One of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Seattle! One of the largest menus too! I'd come back just based on the menu before trying the food! Beautiful space and good service too! I got the com tam dac biet and it was flavorful! I highly recommend it and would come back!

Food was amazing. I loved the crispy banh xeo with the decadent seafood. The service was nice and they just opened recently so the decor was nice and clean. I would come just for the banh xeo alone! The bun bo hue was good too and is very filling! All in all a solid choice!

    Waterfall fried chicken plate
    Jennifer C.

Highly recommend this new spot. Menu choices are immense including a separate vegan menu. Clean and cute decor. Now on to the drinks: Asian inspired cocktails were not too strong and hit the spot: Vitamin Sea and Lychee Blossom. We tried the banh xeo and it was amazing. Stuffed to the max and crispy. Waterfall fried chicken plate was very savory and portions were huge. I would visit again to try the other dishes

It looked packed but I think a lot of people were at the larger pho Bac sup shop (which is associated w The Boat, but The Boat had plenty of seating at 6:30 on a Sunday night. I think what I appreciated most was the service- we had a person who seated us and answered questions about the menu- my partner has some preferences and shared them with the first server but then the second server came by and already knew what my partner had shared with the first server. We were very impressed by the options provided. I usually don't find Bun Bo Hue on the menu often which is what my partner ended up ordering. I ordered the Bun rieu which is even harder to come by. We also ordered the crispy butter garlic wings to share which was a perfect choice. The custard duck egg is an excellent starter, with a rich, savory broth that delivers a deep, yolky umami punch. The rau ram oil and herb is such a creative twist that adds the perfect herbal dimension. The radicchio pudding was light and offered a clean, almost grassy brightness without being overwhelming in flavors. Great option for any vegans at the table. The wagyu beef tallow fries were some of the best fries I've ever had. Ultra-crispy, perfectly thick-cut, and deeply flavorful with beef notes shining through, without being too heavy. Like many of the dishes here, perfectly balanced in flavor. The grilled eggplant with whipped tofu and crispy sun chokes was another standout. The tofu whip was so smooth and should be considered a worthy sub for mayo. The eggplant was soft, creamy, and perfectly charred. The garlic rice was incredibly savory and maybe my favorite version of it yet. Packed with the perfect depth of garlicky flavor and seasoning. Finally for dessert - I thought the durian fruit cup was decent, it's great for durian lovers but next time I will be back to try their other desserts. The hollow bread is a must-try. It's fried to perfection, the inside is steamy and the butter it comes with is perfect but the bread alone is so good that it doesn't need it. The perfect touch of roasted sesame. Slightly sweet, it's a delight in textures and perfect in cold weather. The oyster on half shell in happy hour is also a great standard oyster, very fresh, with a nuanced Viet twist in the sauces. Vegetable dip is pretty standard and also delicious, great if you're looking for a healthy starter. Coffee rubbed ribs were fantastic as well and an incredible deal for the size. Very savory, a little sticky sweet, but not too much. Service was also friendly and the food came out in a reasonable time. Easy to eat and flavorful on its own but dipping it with Chinsu added spice and more flavor. Bot Chien had a crisp to it and egg was cooked well. You have to dip it in the fish sauce or else there is no flavor. Just something minor but I wish the pickled veggies were more separated. It had the cut lines but not fully cut so you had to separate it yourself. The com tam was alright. All of the components you would usually get for a broken rice dish. The meatloaf was really good. The pork on the other hand was a bit too salty for my liking. And you only get one thin piece... soup on the side was good and was a good way to cleanse the palette. Overall good modern/fancy spin on Vietnamese food but overpriced. Would probably be nice to go during dinner time for some drinks as the ambience seemed better for night time. Good amount of seating. Street parking around the area was easy to find.
