    27. Japchae, banchan
    Angel Z.

Food: Japchae was too sweet for me. The noodles were a bit slimy and stuck together. Short ribs were average, slightly too sweet and hard to chew. Banchan was good, especially the bean sprouts. Kimchi tasted fresh and probably not fermented for long. Service: Average. They refill banchan if you ask but leave you alone throughout your meal. There's QR code menus. Ambiance: It's in a basement type setting where you have to go down the stairs to get to. I'd say it's a hole in the wall place and really casual. There were some insects flying and crawling around (probably because they kept the door open) which was a bit disturbing.

We went to this restaurant when we first came to University Avenue. I got the Bimimbap in a regular bowl and my friend got it in the stone bowl. Overall, the bimimbaps were cold and a big soggy; however, the banchan were delicious and plentiful. The restaurant was hidden underneath the stairs and was full of students and families alike. It was easy to split the check and pay at the end, and the staff were very helpful.

    Sandwich board outside for take-outs
    Eva M.

Limited review: One item only for take-out We were walking to a shop to order a banh-mi when a street level sign stopped me. A V-sandwich board on the ground advertised K-Bowl, K-Burrito, and Kimbaps. (See photo) The restaurant is below ground. I have walked past here many times and always ignored the restaurant. The restaurant itself is basic, almost barren with exposed piping in the ceiling, not a date night place. It is crowded on a Sunday night at 7pm. They also had a healthy flow of take-out orders. In short, this place is hopping. We placed our order with the guy at the counter. The restaurant menu does not include the sandwich board items, so we asked. He said just order. I asked what are the K-burrito options. This interaction reminded me of ordering from a Chinese auntie that expects you to already know everything. Lol. The Food: Korean burrito, beef bulgogi, $11.99 - 4.5 Stars Color me surprised how good this burrito is. The cross-section shows loads of well-seasoned beef. Rice, light veggies, and a thin wrapper makes this burrito a hefty beast. Kick up the spice with the included jalapenos. For modest or medium appetites, one burrito might be two meals. Highly recommend. I suspect we will be ordering these for take-outs regularly for a weekday meal. Yum! (We ordered two of the same item. My instincts paid off!)

    Bean sprouts

Dine here if you love eating mold! Got served BLUE bean sprouts that reek of mold! Also was mouthed off by the store owner over the phone who vehemently insisted that they were fresh!

Actually delicious!!! Got the kalbi beef combo with tofu soup and every was great! Even as delivery. The sides to good and flavors delicious.

    16. Seafood and Green Onion Pancake

Korean Tofu House in Seattle is a go-to spot for comforting Korean food, especially on those chilly Seattle days. The seafood pancake is a standout--perfectly crispy on the outside with a deliciously savory filling. It's the kind of dish you crave again and again. Their tofu soup is another highlight--rich, flavorful, and always consistent. It's the ultimate comfort food, warming you up from the inside out. The only downside is that it can get pretty busy, especially during peak hours. It is a small space where they pack people inside to try to accommodate as many people as they can. Most dine quickly so the line does move rapidly. Overall, Korean Tofu House is a solid choice for satisfying Korean cuisine, and I'll definitely be back!

    4. Beef Tofu Soup (소고기 순두부)

We went on a Friday afternoon and it was packed. It's right below a staircase, so not easy to see at first, but the environment is cozy and warm inside. We ordered the beef tofu soup, which was delicious -- it came with sides of rice, bean curds, potatoes, bean sprouts, and kimchi. Broth is very rich and filling, with delicious soft tofu and beef pieces -- be aware that it is served boiling. Spice levels are white, mild, medium, and spicy. Personally, I would saw that the mild was a 2.5/5 on the spice scale. Certainly a gem on the Ave with great service and food!

    14. Dumpling Soup with Rice Cake
    Calista C.

The most consistent spot to get Korean food on the ave! Service is always fast (but not super friendly), as they're trying to get you in and out as fast as possible. Sometimes they forget to add toppings you ask for (like forgetting ramen). I think prices are fair (more so if you don't add toppings) Usually, I always get the dumpling soup with rice cake (number 14) - highly recommend it! Also recommend the seafood pancake if you're here with multiple people! Gamjatang was great (newly added item). The banchan are consistent and they do refill.

Love this place for soondubu! The soup is always solid and it comes out well seasoned and full of meat each time I order it. It's Perfect for a cold and windy day. I also love their ban Chan as well and it pairs perfectly with the other dishes too. The Service is quite fast despite being in a busy College town. Would highly recommend this business to all my friends especially the soup obsessed!

The food here is AMAZING. the portion sizes are huge and enough for 2 people. However, you have to order an appetizer! If you love seafood pancake and Japchae, I would highly recommend getting the sides.

    Banchan sides that stayed empty
    Céline A.

The bibimbap has evolved over the years, the rice portion has gotten larger and the beef as slowly but surely also shrunk. The service has also slowed way down and you must glad them for everything, including banchan refills. With the prices for rice heavy dishes you would think they would at least be generous with the banchan. The flavor is still good, but bummed about the rest.

    Doenjang soup
    Katherine G.

Probably one of the best Korean spots in the Seattle area for affordable and quality! This is located in the university district so is more catered to students, but it's definitely worth the visit over. We came at an odd eating time (4:30) on a Sunday and it was already quite full -- more than half the tables were occupied. I got the kimchi tofu soup which came with rice, an egg, and banchan. The banchan here is incredible! They have everything you can want in such good quality too. I loved the fish cakes, potato, and especially the kimchi. Good kimchi is always a sign of a good Korean restaurant :) They even have green onion pancake as a side option! My tofu soup was good but really spicy -- the portion size was good and filling, but I couldn't finish it all since there were so many side dishes and everything else. I also love how they have purple rice! The kimchi was plentiful and also the pork within. I also had a sip of my friend's doenjang jigae which was also amazing. Overall, fantastic spot for some comforting Korean food :)

Our go to Korean place on the ave! It feels very authentic, with mainly Korean staff and a very sweet Korean elder at the door. My friend got the kimchi stew, which she often gets, and I tried the sizzling pork belly for the first time. Everything was delicious as usual, but nothing beats my 할머니 home cooking :)

I went on a weekday evening and was able to walk in without a reservation and the host sat my party immediately. The space has an industrial vibe, minimal decorations and an open kitchen in the dining area with another kitchen hidden in the back. We started off with a gochujang margarita which had a little spice but the flavor of the gochujang got lost and I couldn't really distinguish it. The NY Tiki Time cocktail was a stunner, the flavors of the citrus, pandan and rum blended smoothly together. I had to take a photo when the drinks arrived. For the apps we ordered the yellowtail and octopus. The presentation really was remarkable and well plated. The yellowtail was in between layer of thinly cut turnip that had a lemon verbena component to it. It was shaped into a flower and placed on a plate in naengmyeon broth. The octopus was tender and in a delicious cream sauce with some roe as decoration. For the mains we got the squid fried rice with kimchi, bacon, smoked quail egg. We also ordered the branzino gui with seasonal vegetables. Both were well seasoned and tasty but I think I enjoyed our drinks and appetizers the most. The staff were slow and intentional with their service and no one seemed in a frantic hurry. The tone of the place was calm and none of our servers gave off an overly pretentious attitude (my biggest gripe with fine dining). Will most definitely come back as soon as possible and can't recommend enough.

The yellowtail dish was lemony and the thiny sliced turnip was an art itself . My friend really liked the squid ink fried rice. The rice was made very well but personally I always find squid ink rice to be bland and a bit uninteresting, so the kimchi in the fried rice added some contrast. The restaurant was pretty empty on a weekend night. Service was ok. I love the glass and high ceiling.

Service was super friendly and quick. My friend and I shared the pork sliders, brussel sprouts, beef cheek ragu rice cakes, wagyu ssam, and the ginger crème brulee. Everything was so surprisingly yummy. Pork sliders were juicy, flavorful, nice fluffy bun. Good proportion of bun to filling. Brussel sprouts at first were your average well made sprouts, but when we reached the bottom of the dish where the sweet potato puree was, it changed the entire flavor profile of the dish! So good. Maybe better served in a wider bowl so we could appreciate the puree sooner haha Beef cheek ragu was super good too. Flavorful rich sauce and I loved that the rice cakes were extra thick and charred on the outside. Made for the perfect texture: lightly crunchy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. Wagyu ssam was great too. Not as standout as the other dishes, but solid steak pieces that were perfectly tender. I think my favorite has to be the ginger crème brûlée. The ginger flavor is light, and the hardened sugar on top tastes like crystallized ginger candy when chewed. The doenjang caramel drizzle balances it out as well. Overall, a fantastic meal. It's definitely on the pricier side, and all the dishes could use a bit less salt, but I will definitely be thinking about that crème brûlée for a long time

The Rose Ttoekbokki with cheese was very yummy, but it kinda tasted like pasta with rice cakes instead of spaghetti. I think that is the point of this dish, so if you want a more traditional spicy flavor then get the other ttoekbokki option (spicy rice cakes). We still loved this one and the rice cakes were so chewy and delicious. The cheese corn was very yummy and exactly what you would expect. It pairs perfectly with the other dishes. My friends also shared the Seafood ramen and Beef bulgogi. They liked both dishes. One of our favorite things were the side dishes actually! The tofu was so yummy, and the bean sprouts were so crunchy and well seasoned. We even asked for extra! The only aspect that makes it difficult to come more often is the price point. Since the dishes are so big and shareable, it is easy to split amongst a group, but it is a little less affordable to come here for dinner and drinks.
