    Grinder
    Holly T.

Really expensive. Really big. I'll get two meals out of it, but I still think it's a little expensive. Extremely tasty! First time I've had a grinder. It was good. Salty but to be expected with the meats in it. Lots of flavors mixed throughout. Loved the arugula on it! The focaccia was amazing! Super soft and fresh. I'm pretty sure it's made in house. I walked in around 11:30 AM, and it wasn't too busy. Service was fast and friendly. I also got a cookie. It was okay. I think their sandwiches are the star! I'd recommend!

Walked over after hearing so many great things--some people even say they have the best sandwiches in Seattle. It was a beautiful day, so it seemed like the perfect excuse to give it a try. The space is open and casual, and I loved the tile work inside. There are plenty of sandwich options to choose from. I ordered the turkey sandwich, and a friend got the eggplant. Both were delicious, and the portions were huge--we both ended up with leftovers. The focaccia wasn't as pillowy as I was expecting, but it was still good and held everything together well. Service was friendly and straightforward: you order at the counter, grab a number, and they bring the food to your table. Overall, I can definitely see why this place is popular. If you're looking for a hearty sandwich in Seattle, it is worth checking out.

    BREAKFAST MORTADELLA

After seeing a ton of pictures of their massive focaccia sandwiches, Hushys had been on my list for some time! I really wanted to try the mortadella sandwich but I'm allergic to nuts. The staff was a little disinterested when we asked for recommendations but we ended up getting the breakfast sandwich. It was a good amount of food and was not bad but the bread was a little soggy and the filling was too salty. It wasn't my favorite sandwich but I would want to go back to try others as I can see the potential! They also have a lot of indoor and some outdoor seating in a good location.

On our way to the Fremont Solstice Parade, we stopped here for a quick lunch. I usually don't get too excited about sandwiches, but this place completely changed my mind. The sandwiches were incredibly flavorful and thoughtfully crafted. I ordered the Mortadella sandwich, served on freshly baked focaccia bread. It was generously filled with mortadella, creamy burrata, pesto, pistachios, and Italian sausage. Every ingredient complemented the others perfectly, creating a rich yet well-balanced bite. The sandwich was enormous--we ended up sharing it between my daughter and me, and we both left feeling completely satisfied. My son always orders the fried fish sandwich whenever he comes here. He let me have a bite, and I could immediately see why it's his favorite. The fish was incredibly fresh, with a perfectly crispy coating and tender, flaky meat inside. If this restaurant were in California, I'd definitely be a regular. It's one of those places that makes you rethink how good a sandwich can be.

Focaccia sandwiches are having a moment right now. Ever since I had one of Good Luck Bread's focaccia sandwiches, it's been on my mind. Similar to chocolate chip cookies, I cannot pass up a good focaccia sandwich. I visited Hushy's two days in a row. Both visits were fantastic! On the first visit, my friend and I shared the Milanese and the French Dip and on the 2nd visit, hubby and I shared the grinder, chowder and corn salad. I loved everything - because everything is tasty! The focaccia is crisp outside and soft and pillowy on the inside. They are baking focaccia throughout the day, so it's always fresh. The restaurant is quite spacious with plenty of seating indoors and outside. We noticed a long line had formed during the lunch hour.

    ROASTED EGGPLANT

Fantastic sandwich combinations and the focaccia hits the spot. The roasted eggplant sandwich was so rich in flavor and the walnuts offset the soft textures of the focaccia, the eggplant, and the spreads. I can't wait to try other ones. The service was quick even though it was lunch time. The brown butter cookie is outstanding in flavor, but I wish it was thicker.

Ordered the Grinder ($23) to go on a Thursday around 11am from very friendly staff. Very cozy wood interior inside, as well as outdoor seating. In the grinder, plenty of sandwich ingredients atop fresh focaccia. It had a vinegary pepper spread + aioli to complement the meat, cheese, arugula, and thinly sliced red onions. Lasted me 1.5 meals. My friend got the mortadella, which was simple but well-balanced w the pistachio/pesto/honey mixture slathered on top. Enjoyed this spot because the ingredients were top-notch, elevated by being combined with thoughtful and complementary sauces/spreads that tied the whole sandwich together. ~$20 is def a premium for a sandwich, but alas.

Great sandwiches with ample seating! Good spot for a which meal. We ordered the mortadella and Italian, both very flavorful and served in a yummy focaccia bread. Friendly staff too!

    Hushy's Grinder and Milanese
    Jess L.

The focaccia was GAS, the meat was great and I think that the sandwiches being slightly warm made it even better. I got the Hushy's Grinder and the Milanese and they were both fire. The Grinder is a good lunch option and the Milanese is better for a dinner, but honestly can't go wrong. Would definitely visit again. Also the interior is quite spacious and is great for bigger groups to hang. It would be great for summertime activities in my opinion. Service is short and quick! It's a bus yourself situation so very casual, but definitely appreciate them answering questions about the size and opinions on the sandwiches they like too!

    Milanese

These are good sandwiches, but man are they pricey for what they are. The space inside is absolutely massive though, and I would definitely come back and stay longer next time. This time we came around an hour before closing and it was practically empty. We got the milanese and fried fish sandwiches, both of which were served warm and cut in half. Between the two, I liked the milanese more as it had more flavor - I really like the kimchi slaw and the pork remained really juicy after being fried. The fish was good but a little thin in my opinion. I also didn't think the focaccia was thaat spectacular as I had expected coming in - it was thinner than I anticipated but the parts that were thicker and chewier I enjoyed.

got the mortadella it was very yummy the honey added a great pinch of sweetness!! i do wish there was more pesto though also they said 20 min wait but my sandwich came out much faster

    FRENCH DIP, TURKEY

sandwich was bomb (i had the turkey) the bread they used was soo good and everything was well balanced and so fresh tasting. while it is true that they give good portions i just can't justify paying $22 for a sandwich (no sides or anything) as a broke college student so this will unfortunately be a once in a while treat

Got takeout to try the sandwiches and wow they are HUGE!!! The sandwiches were very tasty and I'd definitely come back to try other varieties.

    Not a lot left.

Interestingly, the meat came in two separate pieces, arranges somewhat like an X or a cross in the middle of the sandwich. This certainly wasn't the eating experience of a typical sandwich with a circular meat patty, and I appreciate the creativity here. The meat was insanely crunchy, oily, and quite plentiful. Each bite felt a bit like you were biting into a crunchy churro, but without the sweetness. I did think the outside of the pork did overpower the inside, though, as I didn't taste the meat or the fat inside much, and due to the amount of breading the pieces ended up being a bit chewy The bun was quite good as well - it was pretty soft, fluffy, and served as a really good bookend to all the ingredients inside. I thought the lettuce and onions also were good. I don't know if I'm a fan of the jelly on the sandwich - but again, I do like the creativity. What did shine here was the aioli, however. In a lot of places, you don't really taste the aioli on a burger - but that flavor was ever-present on this sandwich, and it was really fantastic. The absolute best part of the meal, by far, though, was the biscuit I have to start with how huge this is. This is certainly not the size of a typical Southern-style buttermilk biscuit - rather this biscuit makes no apologies in its effort to stand out from the crowd. Absolutely nobody would mistake this for a traditional biscuit - on the contrary, I think on first glance most people would assume this isn't a biscuit at all. It's shaped more like a massive pastry. I hesitate to say that looks are deceiving, because it does look great, but its taste manages to elevate past that. This was SO good. The edges are baked perfectly - they're oily, crispy, crunchy, and perfectly flaky. All four sides provide an amazing base - like the walls of a fortress that surround the soft, tender interior of the biscuit. You can see the different layers from the outside as well. When it comes to the inside, there was so much to get through but every bite was heavenly. So much credit here goes to the honey butter - which when spread onto the biscuit, raises the taste level of the entire thing. I put so much honey butter on mine that I nearly finished the whole thing. When it came to the jam, it was good, but since it didn't combine great with the honey butter I mostly ended up just using the latter This place was expensive - around 16 dollars for the sandwich and 8 for the biscuit - however, I was quite full at the end

Oh, and a vodka lemonade - you can get cocktails delivered via DoorDash! Everything was super good, especially the chili cheese dog. They were really generous with the chili (a full cup of it) and it was delicious. The lemonade is made from scratch and I really enjoyed that, as well - not too sweet. When we did takeout, we each got a sandwich, and we also got a Chicago dog, "chum bucket" w/ tots, and a handful of cocktails. I'd had kind of a bad week and was basically like, I don't even care, let's just get whatever we want even if it's an insane amount of stuff, haha. They do single serving craft cocktails for takeout in little cans, which is pretty cool. And they were SO GOOD (all with very clever nautical-themed names). I think our favorite was the "No Ship Sherlock" seasonal Moscow mule. The Chicago dog was amazing - based on this and my previous chili cheese dog, I can say without hesitation that their hotdogs are 100% 10/10. The "chum bucket" tots were also really good, and again came with a very generous full cup of chili. I hate to say it because everything else was so good, but the sandwiches were pretty disappointing for the price, we both thought. I had a tuna sandwich and my bf had a veggie sandwich. They used fresh, quality ingredients, but both sandwiches were kind of bland, and a lot smaller than we were expecting for $14 apiece. That's the only reason I dropped a star, but aside from that, they are 5 star all the way. So, we would not revisit the sandwiches, but hotdogs and cocktails HELL YES YES YES!! Anything involving the chili is also highly recommended. And although I didn't really go into detail about it, chicken tenders were good, too (there were more in there than what the photo shows) - crispy and well-seasoned, and more than what I was expecting.

Katsu is one of the finest fried items known to humankind, and even though eating fried food makes me feel like I've been punched in the stomach recently, I was willing to take a rocket to the gut for some stellar katsu and fries. Daruma has the set up of a no-frills establishment that knows they're going to be churning out orders. The kiosk order system isn't that common in the US because it seems ridiculously unfriendly, but Japan is about efficiency with a focus on the food. They only had two people working here so it was slow, but absolutely worth it. The spicy chicken katsu was incredible. Everything that was on this sandwich had a reason for being there. The cutlet itself was incredibly juicy and crispy. The right amount of sauce was applied so as to not make the sandwich itself soggy (critical on a sandwich with fried elements), and then the cabbage on top gives it a bit of freshness. I'm pretty sure the bread was fine, but that isn't why we're here. It's a vessel for fried food. The fries seem to need a bit of work. I received a promo for $5 off so I tried to use it the previous time, but she didn't know how to apply it. Then another time when I order The Caribbean Plato with pulled roasted pork, when I got home, I discovered the wrong type of meat (grilled pork instead of pulled pork). For these reasons, I didn't go back for a long time. Today, I went again to get take out for my visitors. I called in the order so I didn't have to wait, but Gisela didn't understand my order and kept getting it wrong. I ordered 3 Caribbean Plato with pulled pork, and 1 Caribbean Plato with chicken thigh, but she kept repeating the wrong order back to me (2 pork, instead of 3, wrong type of meat, etc), so I tried it again and again, still no comprendo. I got frustrated and told her that I would just come in person to order. I was in a hurry, but I had no choice. When I got there, I ordered the same thing, but this time, I gestured the type of pork I wanted, using my hands to show pulled and tried to explain that I wanted the shredded kind, not the solid kind). Someone was with me so he heard my order in plain English. As I was waiting for my order, I decided to ask her once more just to be sure that it wasn't the grilled pork bc she made that mistake last time. Then she said my meat was grilling now. I was alarmed since they don't get the pulled pork from the grill. I told her that I wanted PULLED ROASTED PORK, not the solid grilled patty kind. She said something in Spanish to the guy who was putting my order together and he showed me a sample of the pulled pork so I said "YES" that's the one I want. She said they were already cooking the grilled pork. When I told her that she was giving me the wrong order, she said "it's too late". I was so upset so I said, "why is it so hard to understand my order?" Pulled pork is pulled pork, not grilled pork. I never even mentioned the word "grilled". A guy came out from the kitchen so I explained myself and he said what I want is the pulled roasted pork and I said, "that's what I ordered". She tried to explain something to him in Spanish, but he told her to just give me the pulled pork and I was on my way. She just ruined my day, and I could feel my blood pressure rising. I don't think I will ever return again. It's too hard to explain the right kind of meat to Gisela. Dining out and getting take out should be a pleasant experience, not a stressful one.
