got the Notorious PIG sandwich and the Buttermilk Biscuit while I was here Starting with the sandwich, there were a ton of things to love about this The very first thing I noticed was how all-time crispy the pork belly was. Interestingly, the meat came in two separate pieces, arranges somewhat like an X or a cross in the middle of the sandwich. This certainly wasn't the eating experience of a typical sandwich with a circular meat patty, and I appreciate the creativity here. The meat was insanely crunchy, oily, and quite plentiful. Each bite felt a bit like you were biting into a crunchy churro, but without the sweetness. I did think the outside of the pork did overpower the inside, though, as I didn't taste the meat or the fat inside much, and due to the amount of breading the pieces ended up being a bit chewy The bun was quite good as well - it was pretty soft, fluffy, and served as a really good bookend to all the ingredients inside. I thought the lettuce and onions also were good. I don't know if I'm a fan of the jelly on the sandwich - but again, I do like the creativity. What did shine here was the aioli, however. In a lot of places, you don't really taste the aioli on a burger - but that flavor was ever-present on this sandwich, and it was really fantastic. The absolute best part of the meal, by far, though, was the biscuit I have to start with how huge this is. This is certainly not the size of a typical Southern-style buttermilk biscuit - rather this biscuit makes no apologies in its effort to stand out from the crowd. Absolutely nobody would mistake this for a traditional biscuit - on the contrary, I think on first glance most people would assume this isn't a biscuit at all. It's shaped more like a massive pastry. I hesitate to say that looks are deceiving, because it does look great, but its taste manages to elevate past that. This was SO good. The edges are baked perfectly - they're oily, crispy, crunchy, and perfectly flaky. All four sides provide an amazing base - like the walls of a fortress that surround the soft, tender interior of the biscuit. You can see the different layers from the outside as well. When it comes to the inside, there was so much to get through but every bite was heavenly. So much credit here goes to the honey butter - which when spread onto the biscuit, raises the taste level of the entire thing. I put so much honey butter on mine that I nearly finished the whole thing. Really enjoyed stopping by here on a really sunny weekend with my dog! I love that there was plenty of outdoor seating as well as indoor seating. The food was pretty good albeit a bit pricey. I saw reviews that varied about portion size and I'd say it really depends on the bread the sandwich comes on. Layers is one of my favorite places to eat in the whole city. The food is consistently delicious. The ingredients are super fresh and high quality. The combinations are just interesting enough to feel like it's worth the money (i.e. herby sauces and freshly baked bread that you wouldn't necessarily make at home) without being too "experimental" as to tip into questionable territory. The menu choices are thoughtful, seasonal, and inspired. My favorite sandwich is the TBR; fantastic homemade ranch, succulent smoked turkey, hearty bacon, and super fresh greens and tomatoes, all on a perfectly toasted bun. Their griddled banana bread is truly the best I've ever had, as is their sesame cookie. So don't skip dessert! The staff is always friendly and accommodating. Once, our group gave some feedback about veganizing a salad item option, and they took it and implemented it onto the menu the next week! It's maybe a small thing, but I am so impressed by people who love their craft and are open to improvements for the benefit of their customers. I have really tried to understand the hype around this place but I simply don't get it. Honestly I think I've built enough of an instinct to know from the menu and photos how much I'll like most places, and I could tell from the menu the people behind this spot just have a totally different palette than mine which is maybe where the dissonance is. I had the under my mortadella and it wasn't my favorite thing unfortunately. I had no idea what red pesto was but now I know that I don't like it. The spuds had good texture, crisp smashed potatoes that were fluffy on the inside. They really needed salt, the green goddess sauce it was served with was too subtle to enjoy. Now for the sandwiches. The meatball was pretty good! The notorious p.i.g i did not enjoy it. Pork belly was too crisp and there are only 2 tiny pieces, which is another thing, the sandwiches are TINY and for damn near $20, just expected more. My friend's sandwich looked lackluster with random chips scattered on it. I'm usually one to share food but didn't feel compelled to do so. The order sign/station with an arrow pointing to it is confusing since there's only one paper menu on a stand a few feet away from the cashier. We assumed there would be a kiosk to order from but you still go up to the cashier. It would be helpful to have more menus out or at least a QR code for people to scan so more than one party can study the menu while in line. After ordering, water is self serve and you have to bus your own dishes. I'm quite disappointed that our meal was $50 (including tax and tip) for two very mediocre sandwiches. read more

Layers is such a gem in Green Lake! We stopped by for lunch and were blown away by how fresh and flavorful everything was. I keep hearing about Layers so decided to check it out during a recent visit to Green Lake. Very cute little place that was PACKED TO THE GILLS. But don't lose heart--the crowd seems to fluctuate and we were able to get a table relatively quickly. Staff interactions were brief but everyone was very nice, which is impressive given the high volume they are doing. I got the beet salad (I am a vegetarian on a health journey) and I was really happy with it! Nice and big with lots of components. Salads at places like this are often just an afterthought, but this was really tasty and filling! My boyfriend got the Notorious P.I.G., which for him was just okay (I think he was regretting not getting the Reuben though, to be fair). The prices are high, but that's Seattle, right? We went here for the first time this weekend and LOVED everything we ordered. We got: the body by fra'mani, notorious PIG, tiny turkey, little piggy, and the sesame toffee cookie. My incredibly picky little ones devoured their sandwiches, and one even had a good portion of MY sandwich (body by fra'mani). The main difference from the description is that it was served on their pullman bread instead of a toasted brioche. I completely missed that detail in the description before writing this review. I don't think it made a particularly big difference. It was a solid sandwich. The pork is really nicely crispy. Since it's a cut of pork belly, some bites are very fatty. It's a good lunch option because it wasn't overwhelmingly heavy. I will caveat that I did have to walk half of Green Lake back to my car so your experience on that might be different if you park closer. read more

Located right near Greenlake, this is a great place to stop for lunch and admire the view. I got the Mambo Italiano eggplant sandwich. The sandwich itself was good, but not amazing; I thought the eggplant could have used some salt/seasoning as it wasn't super flavorful and that umami taste wasn't able to shine.
