I used to go to Cheba Hut in Arizona in college and it was fun to see they have a location pretty close to me and easily accessible from the light-rail. The inside has a fun "stoner" vibe and it fits the entire brand pretty well. Lots of younger people which is too be expected by the university. I had a "white widow" in the 4 inch "nug" size which is a chicken, bacon and ranch sandwich with mushrooms and I added a few other things. It was good and honestly I don't remember what they tasted like in Arizona so I can't do a comparison there. The small size is perfect for me as I don't usually like to each a huge sandwich. I used to also get the "Thai Stick" which is really more like a teriyaki chicken sandwich and I remember it being very good. I'll try that when I go the next time to see if it's also very good. Another thing I do remember is that their treats are very good. I didn't get any but they're definitely worth a try. I remember some sort of peanut butter rice krispy being very good in particular. 10/10 I've had this one on my list for a while and it did not disappoint! Vibes were high right away. The vibe of the interior is so cool and full of personality. It was hard to choose between the sandwiches, I ended up picking Panama red and my boyfriend got the Apollo 13. The Panama red was so saucy and full of garlic flavors with the garlic herb bread. It was warm and you could tell fresh out of the oven. The Apollo 13 was very fresh and had delicious crunchy veggies. I LOVED that they have Pepsi and cherry Pepsi on the fountain drinks. The carbonation factor is often overlooked at other restaurants but not here! The sodas were carbonated to perfection and perfect for cotton mouth. I had bookmarked Cheba Hut Toasted Subs for awhile. Finally had the opportunity to pickup a takeout order from the site in Seattle's University District on The Ave (12/6/24). Ordering online is pretty straightforward selecting from a variety of customizable toasted sammies available in 4 (nug) 8 (pinner), and 12 (blunt) inch sizes. Pickup time was also pre determined...I selected 30 minutes (vs asap) due to traffic and parking coming from Shoreline. There are also sides, treats, and bevs available for purchase. Vast onsite dining area, but this first visit was takeout. The two monstrous 12 inch sized "blunts" included: The Dank (Pizza) with pepperoni, salami, melty double provolone cheese, marinara, and shake, with garlic herb bread, plus added onion and extra salami ($22.29). The Canna (Italian) with all the meats (ham, salami, proscuitto), veg (lettuce, onion, tomsto, pickle), provolone cheese, shake & house dressing, also on garlic herb bread, without black olives and extra roast beef ($23.04). The Dank was taken down in one sitting by The Homie. The Canna took me three eating opportunities. Definitely ginormous and easily shareable. Impressive Italian toasted sub! Heard a lot of good things, so ordered for delivery. Got a 4" Italian, spicy club, and meatball. I've gotta be honest, I'm not really sure what all the fuss is about. I wasn't hungry anymore after I ate them, so I guess they get the job done, but they were surprisingly flavorless. I literally could not tell the difference between the Italian and the spicy club - they tasted exactly the same to me. The meatballs did have some flavor, but not one I was a fan of, unfortunately. The whole "stoner" schtick is cute, but I don't smoke pot, so maybe that's the missing ingredient? I dunno. Tried out Cheba Hut for the first time today! I've been wanting to go for a while but it's not often I'm in the U-District. I got a "Dank" (Pizza sub) and it was very tasty. The portions were a bit smaller than I was expecting for the price, but next time I'll just load it up with some veggies. I was there on a Sunday afternoon at lunch time and while I know that's a busy time, I waited 25 minutes for my sub. They have a sign that explains they want to ensure quality but a 25 minute wait is a bit much. Cheba Hut is finally open for business! I don't always go to chain restaurants, but I'd heard a lot of good things about them, especially the bread, and decided I had to try it for myself. They have a fairly large menu with several veggie items and they serve alcohol which is always a plus. I went in shortly after opening on the first Sunday and found that other people had already made their way in. It's an inviting atmosphere with that shiny new feel and plenty of seating. If you are getting alcohol skip the first register by the door and just order everything from the bar as apparently that's the only place to buy the booze. Having gone through both stations I found the employees to be friendly and mostly competent...definitely a bit slow, but they're new (and maybe a little toasted). I opted to dine in and went with a pinner sandwich and a salad. The sandwich came out first with the salad coming out several minutes later...and then they didn't have croutons (which they apparently make in house, so that's cool) so the timing leaves a lot to be desired since I taught to wait until the table is served. The mushroom magic sandwich I had was lovely and I'll definitely be back to try the rest of the lineup. My Dirty Hippie mixed drink was quite lovely as well, though I really don't know if the name quite fits. ~8 taps to choose from featuring mostly local breweries. I don't normally leave negative reviews, but my experience at Cheba Hut "Toasted" Subs during the U District's annual $5 Food Walk on Saturday, October 4th, 2025, was so frustrating that I feel compelled to share what happened. Let me start with what I found odd from the beginning: Cheba Hut is a sandwich shop, yet for the actual food walk promotion, they were only offering $5 drinks and cocktails. No sandwiches. The entire point of the food walk is for businesses to highlight their menu items while offering a discount to bring in new customers. But I guess drinks have better margins, so here we are. They did have a table set up in front of their shop with a spin-the-wheel game where you could win various prizes, including a free 4" "Nug" sandwich. Fair enough. Next to the wheel, they had an employee stationed with a QR code advertising a separate promotion. He explained it clearly to our group of four people: make a post on Instagram about Cheba Hut, tag them, and get a free sandwich. All four of us heard the same thing - tag them on social media, get a free sandwich. Simple. So two of us went inside to redeem it. We both made Instagram posts, tagged the business, and got in line. When we reached the front, we showed the cashier our Instagram posts and explained we were there to redeem the free promotion. The cashier looked confused and told us to wait a moment because he needed to double-check something. He went to the back - presumably to ask a manager - and when he returned, he explained that the promotion was actually buy-one-get-one-free, NOT just a free sandwich. However, he said they would make an exception and honor the free sandwiches for just us two since there had been miscommunication. We apologized and explained we were simply following the instructions we'd been given outside. He said it was okay, that they'd honor it this once, and started taking our orders. He had already entered them into the POS system when an older woman - I assume the manager - came up in the middle of the transaction and told him to cancel it. He turned to us and said, "Unfortunately, we can't honor it." We turned to the manager and explained again what we'd been told by their employee outside. She apologized and said there was a miscommunication, that the promotion was for buy-one-get-one-free, and that they "sadly" cannot honor the free sandwich. Here's my issue: I completely understand there was a miscommunication with the employee manning the table outside. I understand the promotion wasn't for a free sandwich. That's not what upset me. What left me feeling incredibly sour was this sequence of events: 1. The cashier went to the back to confirm 2. He came back and told us they'd honor the miscommunication as an exception 3. He took our entire order 4. He entered everything into the POS 5. THEN, at the very last minute, the manager came up and pulled the plug If they had told me from the beginning, "Hey, sorry, the promotion is actually a BOGO, not a free sandwich," I would have apologized, informed them their employee was advertising it incorrectly outside, and moved on with my day. But being told "yes, we'll do this for you" AFTER the cashier confirmed with management, going through the entire ordering process, and THEN having it yanked away at the finish line? That's what felt like a bait and switch. Here's the kicker: they were already giving away free 4" sandwiches as prizes on the spin-the-wheel game outside. They could have easily treated this as another freebie - essentially the same prize someone could have won by spinning their wheel - and kept two happy customers who would likely have returned and recommended them to others. Instead, they chose to die on this hill over what amounts to maybe $10-15 worth of food cost. The irony isn't lost on me that this entire situation was caused by miscommunication - TWICE. First, their employee miscommunicated the promotion. Then, their cashier miscommunicated that they'd honor it before the manager overruled him. At that point, if I were running the business, I would have just eaten it as a business expense and chalked it up to poor internal communication. The goodwill alone would have been worth more than two small sandwiches. Instead, we left empty-handed and with a terrible first impression of a business we'd never tried before. The U District Food Walk is an opportunity for local businesses to win over new customers. Congratulations, Cheba Hut - you managed to do the exact opposite. read more

Mom was hungry before we went hiking so I looked for the first sandwich shop on the way to I-5. This place popped up with stellar reviews so she placed her order and it was ready within minutes! I wasn't hungry when the order was placed but once I smelled the sandwich she ordered, I immediately regretted not getting my own! Granted it was about $18 for a pretty small grilled sandwich to-go, mom was pretty thoroughly satisfied. Only thing missing was some cheese! It was yummy! We went here after seeing a comedy show at Laughs Comedy Club. We were happy it was open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. The vibe is cool, and they have a full service bar inside too! The staff were all really friendly! This was our first time here but won't be our last. A nice toasty sub really hit the spot. We got the club (Midwest Best) and the tuna (Pacific Blue) and they were both really delicious. The club was bomb on their wheat bread. I got the smallest size of the tuna because I'm pretty picky about sandwich shop tuna. This one was really good and I would totally get it again. It was not overwhelming and had nice balance and consistency. It tasted delicious on the garlic herb bread. Oh and we got a Goo Ball for dessert. We are still eating it but it's tasty as well. Parking isn't the best. It's a busy street. But we found parking near the comedy club and it was only about a ten minute walk. Come here. Not usually in U district so had no idea this was here, but I tried Cheba in AZ once so had to stop on by! Saturday afternoon, during market hours, only a few people in there and no line. I got the AK47 (french dip), bread is great, meat was great, the sandwich ingredients were a little cold but overall was good. The customer service was appreciative, it took maybe 15 minutes (i'm not sure i wasn't counting nor a concerning amount of time) but the guy working brought us over a cookie and coupon and apologized for the wait which was unexpected but appreciated. My fave sub is the A-train, which is a mushroom marinara sandwich. Wouldn't really recommend the not-chos, it's basically cheese melted onto doritos. Would love to see an actual nacho appetizer with nacho cheese. Prices are a little high for sandwiches, the 12in clocks in around $18, and the 4in isn't quite large enough to satisfy. Great to have a sandwich shop back in this spot in the U-District! Tons of options to choose from both meat and vegetarian, plus lots of side dishes and a full bar! I got the Kali Mist which was essentially a spicy club. Overall packed with meat/cheese/toppings and good flavor. Place was inviting with some music bumping and movies on the TV. This quirky place offers a lot and there's a decent amount of seating. Staff are friendly and there's even a full bar! Check out their daily deals...as today was "Sunday Funday" there were $3 mimosas and $4 Bloody Mary's among other things. $10 for a cocktail. The Hot Box cocktail with vodka, grapefruit, and muddled jalapeños was delicious. Prices are fair and portions are quite big! I was full after just half of the 8" sandwich. Luckily they have three sizes to choose from. It did take a hot minute for food to come out but other than that it was an overall good experience. Will certainly be back! read more

We love cheba hut! We've been a few times and each time the order is correct (despite modifications!) and the food is fresh and tasty. My go to is the 5-0, without pepperoncini, it is meaty and well seasoned and just a straight up delicious sandwich. I've also tried the white widow, which wasn't my vibe but still delicious. My fiancé's go to is the g13, and after stealing a few bites I can wholeheartedly endorse it too! The inside is clean and quiet for u-district with kitschy themed art and a full bar off the side! Spacious spot popular for weekday lunches. The toasted sandwiches are excellent (based on a sample of one) and I appreciated the availability of unsweet iced tea at the beverage bar. Sadly, their soda fountain is all PepsiCo products, so if you're a Coke-a-holic, you're out of luck there. I like that they deliver your order to your table, but I have to say that the tattooed, dread-locked, and pierced person at the counter was apparently not very good at paying attention to detail, since all three of our orders came out slightly wrong -- wrong size, or wrong ingredients left on the sandwich. If the counter service had been a bit more clueful I might have given this place five stars, but if you don't mind picking unwanted olives or pickles out of your sandwich, the food is really good.
