I know my egg preparation request is a little bit non-standard --eggs, fried hard with a broken yolk, so there's no runniness-- I always appreciate when someone comes out from the kitchen to clarify what I want regarding my eggs, and they did just that and the eggs were perfect. I enjoyed my vegetable hash and drip coffee as well. My friend who dined with me says the French toast is amazing. The TV's over the bar were a little distracting for me, at least the sound was turned down. Although the restaurant was less than half full, it was surprisingly loud with conversation. This was during the noon hour on Friday. I imagine it would be more peaceful during an off hour.

I believe this is the third time I've tried to go to the Northstar diner or Shanghai room. All of which said they were open. This happens to me right down the street from my house and I'll be damned if not all three times they are closed when they're clearly states they open unfortunate I will never try this place again, all I wanted was a small burger

Chilaquiles & Mushroom and Swiss Omelet

This place offers delicious and filling breakfasts. I had the Mushroom & Swiss Omelet and Hubby had the Chilaquiles with chorizo and added a biscuit. The coffee is served in large soup mugs and we never needed a refill. I would come back here because the food was hot and delicious and it came out quickly, the wait wasn't long and there's seating at the counter, and staff are friendly. We may have waited a few extra minutes, so we could sit in Tory's section. One thing to keep in mind is it gets pretty noisy in there and can be hard to have a conversation. This is a family friendly restaurant.

Very reasonably priced diner with great portions and alright food. Staff was kind and considerably quick. The interior is surprising with movies playing on screens and eclectic decor. Ordered eggs Benedict with hash browns for $21 and apple juice for $5 and portions were decent - not the hugest I've ever had but still couldn't finish.

I've lived in Greenwood for a year & a half and have been meaning to try this place. Reasonably crowded on a late Saturday morning, we waited about 10 mins for a table. When the server came to the table with the BIGGEST coffee mug I've ever seen, I was instantly a fan of North Star. The thing looks like a mini crock pot. Free refills too! All of the food our group of 3 got was good, a step above old school greasy diner food, but not Instagram influencer fancy - the perfect happy medium. The place has a total local diner vibe, with eclectic interior decor - a wall of astronaut photos? So random, I love it. And then at night it turns into a Shanghai room in the back, and I've heard it's a blast.

We came here for breakfast on Memorial Day at 9:00 AM. What a cool diner! I love what they did with the place-it still has the bones of the restaurant it used to be, and now it is a galactic explosion that maintains both a blast from the past and the future. The decor alone is a feast for the eyes. Nice! I had a hearty breakfast and enjoyed a Mushroom & Swiss omelette and a cup of coffee. So simple and good. I love the flavors, staff, and the vibe here-I would love to come back!

Food - Bacon was cold and not crispy. Eggs were unseasoned. Hollandaise sauce was sour for some reason and too liquidy. Most redeeming part was the hash browns. Pancakes weren't that fluffy and failed to meet expectations. Service - 30 minute wait on Saturday morning. Servers were nice and friendly. Food came out fairly quickly after everything was ordered. Ambiance - Cute decor with interesting content on the TVs (bobs burgers and zelda playthrough). Large windows with natural lighting.

    Eggs Benedict with portobello mushroom

What a fun place to eat. I came in with my sister on Thursday morning for breakfast. Only one person running the floor, and he was really nice and provided great customer service. Coffee was good. My sister ordered the eggs benedict with portobello, and it tasted amazing. I got the huevos rancheros and that was pretty good too. A little spicy. Overall, this is your regular neighborhood diner with delicious food. I think it's a little overpriced, but maybe I'm just used to 2000s Denny's. Street parking in case you are curious. This is located right on greenwood.

Great food and fast service! I was not expecting such deliciousness to be honest, but left with wow, what a great little diner with friendly staff and quirky interior. I highly recommend! PROS: - fantastic location, fun interior, plenty of street and neighborhood parking available - no lines, quick seating and cash out - good menu with plenty of options to customize - friendly and accommodating staff - good portions, tasty well cooked food! My favorites are the country Benedict with extra crispy hashbrown, French toast! CONS: - a bit dingy, old bar seats that sink in and are uncomfortable. They need to update their furniture. Flies around the place were constantly trying to eat the food! Very unappealing - main dishes are on the pricey side, like 20% more expensive. I was disappointed that I didn't get more hash brown with a $21 item or a drink, and ended up having to order a side of hashbrowns. Guys - If you're charging me $25 (tip + tax) for a simple brunch, you better provide free drinks and a lot more hashbrown. It's okay to charge more just because you're in the city, but you're competing with other brunch places and you're not sweetening the deal.

    Chicken Fried Steak Dinner
    Mike L.

North Star Diner serves breakfast all day as well as other lunch items. I ordered to go and was surprised by how good things were. Chicken fried steak: the portion was giant! The accompanying gravy was pretty good as well - creamy, full of flavor, and delicious.

    Breakfast Burrito (inside)
    Francesca S.

Got this place for delivery and it was amazing! Their fried breakfast burrito was filled with loaded potatoes, beans, hashbrown, carnitas, and eggs. On the side, they provide you with sour cream, cheese, and red sauce so that the burrito doesn't get soggy. It was a hefty burrito and definitely had leftovers. But what was even bigger was their chicken fried steak! It was massive (as you can see in the photo). The gravy came on the side as well. Wish the food was a bit more seasoned but other than that, would come back!

    Jeff L.

Incredible breakfast spot that has a bit of an interesting asian/astronomical vibe to it. As a San Diegan I have to say that the breakfast burrito more than satisfied my craving and everyone at the table thoroughly enjoyed their meal. There's plenty of things for your eyes to wander around to here and the staff was pleasant and prompt on a Sunday morning. Would definitely come back!

You order at the front before being seated which means food arrives shortly after sitting down. With that noted, I wouldn't return to wait that long. First visit, to try a relatively famous spot, sure. Inside is a bit tight, but conversation can be had. My friends got the lumpia-silog and bistek-silog. Lumpia was tasty, but not particularly outstanding. Bistek was dry. The beef was tough to chew, seasoned alright on the outside but likely overcooked if not old. I opted for the oxtail silog which was delicious but pricey. Oxtail Silog - for $29, this plate definitely gets a double take. After waiting in the hour line, I figured I should commit for a tasty meal. Oxtail comes in a side bowl alongside a bit of hearty broth which the rice absorbs well. Meat is tender, falls off the bone, but pulling around oxtail bones isn't the simplest, so definitely have to bite around crevices. All in all, this plate was delicious but think it comes with a huge tourist tax I've had better value for oxtail plates. Ube Pancake Stack - four sizeable pancakes. Some pictures, including my own, don't do these justice. I can definitely get behind the hype. They're drenched in a rich ube sauce and there's plenty to go around. Honestly the ube flavor is present on the pancakes, but it feels relatively faint because the sauce is extremely sweet and flavorful, minimizing the pancake taste and expanding the gap between flavors. That being said, I think I would enjoy the pancakes with less sauce (or preferably, on the side).

This is…read moreparticularly the case after 3 AM, but that's where this cafe shines as the light in a sea of darkness, welcoming in people from around the city who just want sustenance after a night of mostly alcohol. It serves comfort food - classic breakfast diner items that can bring a person back from the dead. The eclectic fellows that inhabit this establishment in the wee hours of the morning come in all shapes and sizes, but they just have one goal - eat something greasy and satisfying. That's where this place delivers. I ended up here at slightly after 3 AM - and it was pretty packed. All the tables were full, and we were considering leaving after about ten minutes when one finally opened up. The servers are incredibly busy, and it took us about 15 minutes to actually get our order in. I got the cheese curds as my meal. These were easily the best cheese curds I've ever had. In Seattle, I've had a few instances of cheese curds that are relatively sad on the inside - they have a decent fry, but fail on the cheese aspect. That's absolutely not the case here. This cheese is amazing. It's the perfect level of squeakiness, and the stretch is unreal. It has a very unique flavor that you'll only find in cheese curds, that soft yet milk-like taste that's so addicting. It was melty, gooey, and hot inside. The taste was just pure heaven - I was shocked at how good these were. The fry on the outside is also so good. It's light yet so crispy; a beautiful golden brown that produces an amazing crunch when you eat it. Just phenomenal. The sauce provided with this was solid, but honestly I didn't even need it as the curds were amazing by itself. I tried some of the chicken fried steak as well. This was fine. The scrambled eggs were decent, but the hash browns felt a little limp and soggy. The steak itself was pretty average. The prices here aren't too bad either - my cheese curds were around $16, but the portion size was more than enough. Overall, this is a true late night classic that serves pretty great food as well. 8.75/10

The photos on Yelp make it seem like a great brunch place, but do not be fooled. Their service is genuinely atrocious and I wish I had read the other reviews prior. Not only did my group (of 5) have to wait beyond their estimated 25-45 minute wait period and ended up waiting over an hour to be seated and an additional 45 minutes for food to come out after ordering, we were met with the most abominable treatment ever. The hostesses have nothing but hatred in their attitude and it makes me wonder why they even want a job at this point. The main hostess was giving my group dirty stank eyes because 40 minutes into waiting we decided to ask for an update and they responded with a snarky remark that our group was large and needed to wait. There were plenty of empty tables that could have been pushed together but they would only seat us at the booth seats, which they only had 2 tables for. They sat numerous other large groups before us as well, even though they came after us, but their groups were of White people rather than people of color. Coincidence? I think not. Later, I had asked a different hostess if they had a bathroom to which she stared at me and just said yes and then stopped responding. I had to prompt her to tell me where it was...like is this not common sense that I was asking where it was? The server himself was actually really great and kind, but it could not make up for the horrible treatment we received from the hostesses throughout the entire time, and I can't help but feel it was racially based as my group was all Asian and almost all other customers were White. The food itself wasn't the worst but it does not make up for the lack of service either. If I were the boss, I would remove the hostesses who are causing this lack of service to customers. It seems like I am not the only one who received poor treatment after reading other Yelpers reviews. It's insane to me that in this day and age, and especially in an area so close to Seattle, we can still experience these outdated and cruel treatments of racism and ignorance. Overall, I wish I could rate this place a 0/5, but Yelp simply doesn't allow that. I hope you guys think again before coming here to eat, unless you like being demeaned before a meal.
