If you want to dine in here, you'll need to park at their small and obscure parking lot around MLK Way where they're located. The inside has many tables and has sort of a modern feel even though the dining area is relatively small. I ordered takeout for family so nothing to say about service here. We got the Obama noodle and the sizzling catfish with vermicelli. I actually get their Obama noodle here more than any other place, and the quality of it hasn't changed too much! There's always a ton of well-seasoned grilled pork provided, and their fried egg rolls are always crispy and taste fresh. The sizzling fish also had a really nice smoky taste to it despite the fact that I'm not really a fan of catfish. Amazing Vietnamese food that originates from Hanoi (north Vietnam). You won't find some of these dishes at most Vietnamese restaurants. I've tried their bun cha ca which is fried wish with dill, and I felt that the fish was over fried compared to what I've had before. My friend had their bun mam tom which was really good. They gave a great portion of protein in his dish where I felt I didn't have enough fish in mine. The fermented shrimp paste sauce was a little on the sweet side. I highly recommend their mango salad! "What kind of fried rice to you have?" She replied, after shirking and twisting her neck, "We have seafood, Chicken and Vegetable.", as if fried rice is not our specialty. Boy was she right, we thought, after seeing the $16 to go box opened. There is usually corn, peas, carrots, and green beans if you're lucky, in every fried rice order that I've experienced, at least at Vietnamese restaurants. I came here on a Sunday evening at about 7pm. Although the place was fairly busy, they had ample seating and my group of two was able to be seated immediately. Sports games were playing on the tv so if you want a spot to watch the game (not sure which game), this place is a good one. I got the beef tenderloin pho with extra noodles. The fresh rolls are perfection- many flavors and textures combined perfectly, with delicious peanut sauce. The noodles were just OK. The sauce was missing the bit of sweetness that other restaurants include in their veggie "fish" sauce so the flavor was just salty. The soy meat and tofu were good but the spring rolls were so greasy with rancid oil that I couldn't eat them. This is a great restaurant for big groups. I've been hosting lunches here after the ACRS Walk for Rice event at Seward Park for years and even with the previous ownership. The staff is accommodating, friendly, and attentive. This time I got the Obama vegetarian vermicelli bowl. I like the fresh greens a lot but the tofu was a bit dry for me. The fried spring rolls were great and I could eat a large pile of those. I tried my friend's turmeric fish and that was awesome. I would get that next time. I thought I already knew some of the better Vietnamese joints in Seattle, but I think this is my new favorite. I didn't the pho here, but instead opted for the Bun Cha Obama (I guess it's what he had on the Bourdain show in Hanoi?). It was amazing. Slightly charred meat in a sweet dipping sauce with cold vermicelli noodles and fresh greens (you make your own little lettuce rolls). I also had some very good mango and sticky rice. Very different when it comes to what I think of traditional Vietnamese food - Chef Chi Yen comes from Hai Phong Vietnam (near Hanoi and Ha Long Bay). I ordered the Obama Noodles ask Bun Cha Obama, which was inspired by what previous President Obama had with the late Anthony Boudain when he was visiting Vietnam in one of his episodes of Parts Unknown. I was served a platter with an empty bowl, some noodles and herbs and some meat. There was no instructions and I had to ask our server how she suggested eating this (I felt like such a noob and I'm no stranger to Vietnamese food)! She just told us to mix a little of everything into the bowl and enjoy! LOL! Okay.. digging right in!!! I liked the dish - I would give this dish a solid 3.5 stars. The herbs were fresh, the meat was flavorful BUT I thought the meat was a bit dry, kind of chewy, and overcooked (both in the broth) and the fried cha on top of the noodles. The broth was very fragrant and I liked the flavors. I also thought we could've used a bit more noodles for the amount of meat. You really have to use the broth to add a little wetness to the noodles, or else everything would've just been too dry. Maybe I didn't order the right dish, but I saw this was such a popular one on the menu. My friend ordered the Bun Dau Mam Tom aka Pork Belly Tofu Noodles and it definitely wasn't what she expected. It was boiled sliced of pork belly and tofu (dried, no sauce) served with a purple fish/shrimp paste sauce. The sauce is definitely pungent and overwhelming if you're not used to this flavor. Overall, the food was different and good. I wouldn't rave about it and go out of my way to come back here, but I also didn't think it was horrible. The place was pretty modern and the staff friendly. I gotta say, this hip and modern Viet place = dang solid for yummy Vietnamese food :) Located in the MLK area, this place is easy to spot but a lil tricky to get to due to the Link rail tracks. Plenty of parking and overall, inside is pretty spacious and open. Together with my mom, we ordered: Lobster Pho, Cha Ca, Nem Nuong Cuon, and Passion Fruit Tea. Verdict: Everything was yum yum yum, especially the lobster pho. At around $26 for the lobster pho, I think it's worth it. You get the entire hugeeeee lobster to yourself and the broth = on point. As for the Cha ca, if you're a fan of sizzlin' dishes, this one is fun to eat. Loaded with fresh veggies + vermicelli, it's a pretty light and refreshing dish. As for appetizers, the nem nuong cuon rolls are HUGE. Like....wow o.o ...And finally, the passion fruit tea = delicious. Ahhh, would come here again for the tea! Decent for Seattle standards but needs improvement for Vietnam standards for sure. Ordered the Obama noodles for my first visit and they were decent. They had most of the elements of the original dish and the flavors were on the right track. I like that the meat isn't just plain meat. There was a bit of texture, char and gristle which added to the flavors. On my second trip I ordered the Bo Kho which is one of my favorite dishes when visiting Vietnam. The dish again had the right elements and flavors but everything seemed very watery and washed out. COVID times are hard for sure and it seems like their kitchen is understaffed ..... so maybe this is part of what the problem is. read more

We ordered a few different dishes: Obama noodles, mi quang and the sizzling fish. They all had great flavor; however, other things could have been better such as, using thinner wrappers to deep fry things. The obama noodles had this deep fried stuffed grilled egg. The wrapper used was so thick, it made it incredibly chewy, i had to toss that aside. The mi quang's broth was delicious but had really dry pork meat. I also ordered a durian shake, they need to upgrade their blender. Every sip i took had a bunch of tiny pieces of ice chunks... an icee at 7-11 is smoother than that! Also, they barely put any durian in it. All i tasted was sugar and milk. It was a huge disppointment. Every dish in this joint avg $12-15. A bowl of pho costs about $8-12. Id understand if this restaurant is sitting in Capital Hill, Columbia City or Belltown, but it's not -- it's kinda in the hood. So, idk if this place will survive unless it gives a little. read more

I was rather perplexed how my lunch experience with the college friend earlier today was rather night and day from my initial visit nearly two months ago. Had to reduce the stars from 5 to 3. Pros: kept well hydrated with chilled water, the pho broth remains exceptional. Cons: took 3 attempts for the college friend to place her order: couldn't get her questions answered and in the end was disatissfied with her chewy chicken entree ($12). Me - I had the grilled pork chop ($10). This was very thin, bony, and not overly flavorful. And sadly, the steamed rice was not so moist. Total polar opposite from when I sampled it back in April. Can't complain too much because of the redeemed the $5 off for each entree. Wished we had a better lunch experience elsewhere for my birthday. Most likely will not return for a third visit though. read more

The South End along MLK has some of the best low-key type ethnic mom-and-pop restaurants in Seattle. Wicked Chopstix is a bit different from that though, because it just looks more modern and trendy on the inside. It's a relatively newer (and cleaner, if you get my meaning) restaurant in the neighborhood- the inside is more dressed up with shiny new tables, shiny new chairs, nice decor and lots of natural lighting. That said, despite being a 'nice looking' restaurant, I think the food is actually pretty good. I needed to make that a point because, from my experience, most Asian restaurants that look too 'nice' and 'modern' serve mediocre and watered-down food. The Mango Shrimp Salad is really good. That would be a great appetizer to kick things off- it's freshly crisp and has a great tangy taste to it. Also, the Bo Ne (Dodging Beef Steak) makes for a good hearty main plate. The portion of cubed beef is pretty good, and it comes out sizzling hot. The Hailam Chicken Rice isn't bad either, but this one is hard for me to really judge on. I'm Malaysian, and I've had Hailam Chicken Rice in several different hawkers and food courts in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, and Singapore, and Wicked Chopstix' offering just isn't fair to compare... BUT for Seattle standards, I think it's just good enough. I do like that mildly sweet garlic sauce that comes on the side. Try for yourself though! The food here is pretty good overall. My one gripe though is I think the menu is relatively expensive compared to other restaurants in the area (the cost of doing business, I presume). But overall, this place deserves a FOUR STAR rating and a visit from you if you're in the area! read more

For a restaurant tucked away in a not-so-obvious place, they serve a pretty great menu of Vietnamese food. I ordered the Bun Cha Obama, partly due to the name and partly due to the variety of items in the dish: grilled pork, fried pork, egg roll, greens, vermicelli. The food was pretty good. The atmosphere wasn't as impressive: kind of a mix of modern and aging fixtures and a bathroom that didn't look very appealing. I have driven past here a number of times and decided to finally drop in for some lunch on a weekday morning. It was on the early side, so it didn't surprise me that we were the only people inside. It's a bit of a different space, with higher tables and stools around some of the windows. It's pretty open. I grabbed some oxtail pho, which was okay, but not outstanding. I expected a little fall off the bone but it ended up being some pretty gristle laden pieces. Being winter, one of the doors kept popping open and a cold, blustery wind kept the place a fridge. Maybe that's nice during the summer, but it also made the place super noisy with all the traffic on the street. Finally, someone walked over and locked one of the sets of doors to keep it from happening. Probably not the best plan in the world. read more
