I tried two types of dumplings, the scallion pancakes, the dan dan noodles, spicy mala noodles, and cucumbers. I know this place is seen as a cheaper Din Tai Fung and while it is cheaper, the taste is far far worse. They are conveniently located within walking distance of the convention center and they had no wait. We were seated immediately and brought waters. You order using a QR code and then the food starts flowing. The only interactions you have with the staff is during seating and when you pay. They seem to have a pretty efficient system going at this location. I would say it took about 5 minutes from the time we put in our order for food to start coming out. Everything was hot and fresh. I really like this chain. It's a less high-end Americanized dumpling spot. The spicy beef roll (not very spicy) is super salty and needs some sweetness (like plum sauce or hoisin) and freshness (chinese chives) to balance out the salt. The chicken wonton soup is wonderful. The server took a little minute to take out menu so be sure to set it where the server can see it. They won't come check if it's not apparent from our experience. All of the food was pretty good. Despite the prices surprisingly added up given their appetizer size. Would recommend trying the Ybin noodles (slightly sweet) as well as the banana crepe dessert which was a big hit. I adore Dough Zone and this location is no exception. I enjoyed their little waiting area - I felt like it was tucked away a bit more than other locations which was nice. Other than that? It followed the same tried and true formula. Dough Zone is fabulous for dumplings, noodles, and dumplings. Yes, I know I said it twice but just thinking about it makes me dumpling obsessed. Dough Zone is not known for gregarious service; the waitstaff are perfunctory and efficient. The little slips of paper where we place our order practically ensures limited interaction and often the steaming bamboo baskets are placed on the table with nary a word. Do I care? No, no I do not. Their food is absolutely delicious. Soup dumplings are something I would eat daily if I could. The fluffy bao buns are amazing savory pork delights. Yum yum yum. And the best part? The price! New to Seattle and this is my first sit down Chinese restaurant. Considering it was a Sunday night there was not too much of a wait. From joining the wait list at the front to getting seated was less than half an hour. Each table has vinegar, a pot of spicy chili oil, and soy sauce with non disposable chopsticks (which I personally liked) and a soup spoon. We placed the order on the paper menu which one of the server brought to the back. When they came back, they taped it to our table and gave us two little trays of minced ginger. First to come out was the soup dumpling and the Dan Dan noodles. Aesthetically, having the soup dumplings come out with the whole bamboo steamer was such a visual treat. The dumpling wrap was thin and each dumpling definitely had a good pool of broth. I would highly recommend eating these as soon as they're out since the wrappers did get much chewier as it cooled. Next was the beef pancake. It was a scallion pancake wrapped out seasoned beef slices and pickled cabbage. It was on the oily side but the beef was so good!! The pork pan friend bun was way more crisp than I thought-- the bottom of the buns are slightly thicker so after the pan fry it has a bit of a biscuit like texture. The pork was also so juicy that I thought I received a pan friend soup bun! Finally the Dan Dan noodles-- don't forget to mix it up with the sesame paste that may have settled to the bottom. My personal favorite was how nutty the noodles tasted. My tongue was completely numbed from the spice so I'm glad I left that for last. For the price I'm very satisfied with what I got! The pork XLBs are a standout, juicy and full of flavor, slightly better than the pork and crab version which is still good but not quite as rich. The beef pancake roll is another favorite. The beef is tender and well-seasoned, wrapped in a crispy pancake that holds everything together perfectly. Pan-fried mixed wontons deliver that satisfying crunch on the bottom, while the pan-fried chive dumplings pack a strong chive punch for those who love bolder flavors. The spicy Ma La noodles have a nice kick with the numbing effect building gradually, and the pork wontons in chili sauce are sharp and easy to eat, a very solid pick. On the lighter side, the sweet and sour cucumbers lean a little sweet, so they are less refreshing than I'd usually expect but still enjoyable. The green onion pancake surprised me, not overly flaky but still flavorful and satisfying. For drinks, the taro milk tea comes out on top with stronger flavor and less of the watered-down feel that the regular milk tea and Thai milk tea had. The Thai milk tea isn't overly sweet, but the flavor isn't as bold as it could be. Service was good. The staff brought out food quickly and even let us linger a bit longer to finish eating without any pressure. The ambiance feels like a nice Asian restaurant with enough space that it doesn't feel crowded, which makes for a comfortable dining experience. Overall, Dough Zone delivers a lot of good options and consistent quality, especially if you stick with the dumplings, noodles, and pancakes. House Specials: We had Green Onion Pancake, Spicy Beef Pancake Roll, Pan-Fried Chive Dumplings, Braised Pig Ears, and Spicy Beef Shank. The green onion pancake was not greasy, but flavor-wise, it tasted a bit plain. The pan-fried chive dumplings tasted good, but their fried egg mixed with chives was mushy, which made the texture slightly off. The pig ear and beef shank were both really good. Very similar to Din Tai Fung and just as good. Some say it's better but hard for me to tell unless I did a back to back eating. Nice clean restaurant and service is professional. Dishes come out quickly and fresh/hot. Everything was very good. My only complaint would be that the Dan Dan noodles are a very small portion for the cost. It's almost like an individual size and not the best for sharing with a group of 3 or more. All the dumplings we got were flavorful and fresh.
